Thai classics include curries, vegetarian options, & hot & spicy fare in a relaxed, modern space.
Coming from Seattle, where there is a lot of Asian food especially Thai food. It’s hard to find a very good Thai restaurant in the south. This place is good still different from what I’m used to, the noodles were still not as flat as I usually eat when I’m in Seattle these noodles are on the chewy side. The sauce reminded me more of a chow fun. The chicken pieces were OK. He was nothing special, but overall friendly service large menu with lots of vegetarian options.
The meal I had at Cafe Equator might be one of the best meals I’ve ever had at a restaurant. The blanket shrimp was to die for. One of my family members who doesn’t like bone-in chicken ate one of the grilled chicken wings and only had good things to say about it. The shrimp rolls are tasty, as well. My entree of veggie equator fried rice w/ tofu was so flavorful and the portion was so huge that I had leftovers! The lemonade was another great choice.
So happy I had the chance to stop by Cafe Equator.
The food and atmosphere is good. Large portions too. Summer Rolls are excellent. Note to the owners: please fix up your bathrooms. The lock on the men's does work. My daughter (who is 5) said she saw a mosquito in the Ladies room. Time to give the bano some TLC.
Loved the food here!! Everything we ordered was very flavorful. The papaya salad was a little on the spicy end but we still ate it all! I was a little hesitant to get the grilled chicken wings but they were soooo good...so much flavor, and I only tasted the end of the wing. Our 3 yo devoured the wings! Staff was also very friendly and attentive.
Tonight, this place became my favorite Thai restaurant in the area. I’ve gotten food to-go in the past and dined in once or twice, but I feel like I never appreciated how good the food is. We started with the Homemade Roti with Curry appetizer and you get a choice for your sauce (red curry, green curry, panang). We chose red and it was delicious. The Authentic Panang dish is just incredible! First time trying it and it instantly became a favorite. The Pad Thai is also very good and saucy. I still have a few dishes I’d like to try so definitely will be returning IN PERSON. The service from Ms. Jane was the icing on the top. Her personal story of how she would eat panang everyday in high school just brought such a joy to our experience. Please give this place a try and support them!
My experience with Café Equator Thai Cuisine has repeatedly been no less than adequate. It is probably my favorite Thai cuisine in Metairie. The chances of you getting good Thai food in New Orleans is high because of the density of Thai population is East N.O. is high. This place's aesthetic is minimalist and rustic with central see-through displays that contain various pottery teapots. The lunch portions are generally generous enough to make two meal portions out of it, depending on how much you eat. The restroom is cozy, tucked away, and may take some adventuring into backroom storage space. Be aware that if the rain is heavy on your visit that there may be some flooding around the lot and the entrance. My photos should give you an idea of what to expect concerning the inside aesthetic, restrooms, and lunch costs pre-tip.
Update: I tried the Tom Yum street food version and believe it is the star of the show. It is not as sweet as the Koong version, which is a pro for me, and it has a wonderfully savory flavor. You will find the cilantro flavor strong and may want to avoid if you think it tastes like soap. As for me, I highly suggest this soup.
Stopped here for a quick lunch and service was fast and friendly. We ordered the Massaman curry and yellow curry with tofu and both were creamy and delicious! Massaman was a little sweeter than what we are used too with an interesting flavor from the pineapples, made for a unique experience!
Holy moly! I was pleasantly surprised!
Where do I start? My sis and I stopped here kind of impromptu. We just wanted somewhere to sit and eat for lunch.
So first off there was no parking when we got there. We were told we could park in the breauxmart parking lot across the street, which is no problem. They do have a small parking lot in the back like 4 or 5 cars worth of parking spaces, so keep that in mind when you pull up. Upon entry we were greeted so courteously and we were seated right away. It's a smaller, more intimate restaurant. The environment was calm and low-key. The music was not loud and overbearing like you'd find at some restaurants, so we didn't have to scream at each other to hold a conversation. It was just right. For apps we had the fried calamari, delicious! We destroyed that! For main course, I had the ginger tori (chicken) and my sister had the grilled pork. Oh. My. Gosh. The food here: AMAZING! Everything was fresh and so tasty! I couldn't stop eating, I didn't even pause for a breath. It was that good. The food was seasoned just right and everything blended so perfectly. The egg roll was so good but my only gripe: the egg roll was too small, two bites and it's gone, haha. The sauce they provided for that was fantastic. Everything was cooked to perfection. Oh, by the way, your dishes come with rice. It's not on the menu but it comes with it. You can always order extra on the side. The portions too are a healthy amount. Overall, a great dining experience but my only issues are the parking and the tiny egg rolls. Apart from that, I would definitely recommend this spot for great Thai food!
Love this place! Great food and great service!
Delicious food. Love the beautiful teapots.
Chelsea went above and beyond food was great!!!! Love this place!
Really bad bad service

Bad service
Great service, even for a table of 10. Food has always been great.
Great Royal Thai authentic variety cusine dishes to choose from & excellent deserts. Stongly love the Thai Icecream desert after great lunch full.
Waitress decided to be rude because I asked if my order was gluten free. She got an attitude and when I asked her to cancel the order, she proceeded to tell the kitchen staff that I am “SO ANNOYING!” You shouldn’t treat customers with food allergies so rudely when they ask you questions regarding your menu. Food was mediocre.
The food was delicious and I loved the huge vegetarian selection. Two pages of the menu full of vegetarian dishes and several appetizers as well. Service was excellent.
Atmosphere is great, staff is extremely nice and friendly, the food is AMAZING. Got an order to go, drove to Morgan City; the food was still hot & fresh. My new favorite place for Thai food

Best Thai food
Take out was right on time. Menu is not clear if rice is included--it is. Not as spicy as I was expecting for Thai food but the flavor was excellent.
You call and call and no one picks up
We ordered it for delivery so didn't go into the restaurant and we did not really enjoy the food at all I got pad Thai and I thought it was just okay, my wife got the drunken noodles and did not like it at all she said it had no flavor, and was 99% vegetables hardly any noodles.. for me a big indication whether or not something is worthy to go back to is if I eat the leftovers and we didn't
Who ever the male that answers the phones here to take order has a very nasty rude attitude .
Best Thai food in the area.
The papaya salad was the best I've ever had. The green curry and Thai basil street chicken were delicious.
Went in for a quick lunch and food and service were great!
Pleasant enough, food was good.
I love their Thai tea

This is the best Thai food in the city! I eat here 1-2x a month for lunch for the past 5 years or more. I've never had a bad dish nor a bad experience, the food is consistently delicious everytime I eat here.
I ordered the Spicy Thai eggplant basil and shrimp entree, w/extra basil. I also ordered the Papaya salad and specified that I wanted it spicy and w/fish sauce. The entree was fabulous, but almost NO BASIL. I was charged $1.00 extra for the basil.
The papaya salad tasted awful. It was VERY sweet, had no lime and they used cut up tomatoes in place of cherry tomatoes. I didn't even eat it. I've eaten at Equator 4 times in 2024 and sad to say, I won't ever be going back.
I had the Authentic Panang with chicken and vegetables. I also request the Thai hot heat level with a side of the fish sauce with Thai chillies. I Love this dish!
The service is always friendly and prompt.
Ordered a green curry to go. It's overly salty and does not have the coconut sweet flavour I expected from a green curry.
The food is always delicious. The servers are friendly and helpful. This is our favorite Thai restaurant!
My go to for Thai! Everything is good
Nice place, with food that I had no complaints about. Our server was just not good. Maybe he was having a bad day but he was not able to hide it at all. Also never came to refill our waters once
Grabbed a quick lunch. Food, service and atmosphere were great!
Amazing food!
Good food
Extremely rude employees. We waited for several minutes to be sat. The employee simply looked at us and didn't say a single word. We sat at a table for more than 20 minutes while employer's ignored us. We were never even greeted or had the opportunity to order drinks. It wasn't even busy and employees were casually chatting with each other. We walked out without any service.
We dine here often and love it. Just recently they started substituting the fried noodle ball with fried rice for lunch. Please bring the noodle ball back, we hate the rice!
Personally, I didn’t like what I ordered and for me and one other person it was right at $100 after a tip. I barely ate half of my food and other people we were with also didn’t really like their food. Some did though so they enjoyed it.
The meal I had at Cafe Equator might be one of the best meals I’ve ever had at a restaurant. The blanket shrimp was to die for. So happy I had the chance to stop by Cafe Equator.
Must try Authentic Thai Red curry
Beautiful restaurant. Bring a jacket because it is cold in there. The food is delicious and well priced. I have been twice and both times left full and very happy with my choices.
Awesome service 🏆🏆🏆🥇🥇🥇💯

The food was pretty good.
I had the Thai rice with pineapple and chicken. Would definitely order again.
The food was good 👍👍👍😊
The noodles were dry and stuck together. I will never get anything from there again.
Spectacular Thai food with excellent vegan options. The steamed vegetable rolls and the Chiang Mai noodles were standouts
Dinner and drinks were good! I had the "Something in the Jungle," and my only complaint was that I didn't find it spicy, even though the description states "very spicy." Nothing a little chili oil can't fix! Like all margaritas, their sake margarita went down way too easily! I'd definitely go back.
The food was very tasty
The food is great. However, the service is horrendous. Excellent place but it’s a great Thai spot if you have a taste for Thai. Plus there are some service providers who are great but there’s literally no in between. It’s either horrible or great. I literally had my food thrown my way for takeout. Lol no hello no bye. No there’s your order just thrown my way. Lol.
Beautiful interior and delicious food!
Great Thai
I love Thai food and a friend recommended Cafe Equator for dinner. There was adequate parking but I can imagine there not being enough parking during busier times. We were quickly seated and the server did a good job. The menu here is quite extensive and it took me forever to decide what to order. I chose the Pad See Ew (with pork) and a side of Roti. My food was delicious and I didn’t have a single complaint. The Pad See Ew was very flavorful and the serving size was big. The Roti was buttery and yummy as expected. I’ll definitely be adding this place to my list of go-to restaurants.
Excellent flag appetizers. Service was a bit below par. Our server never asked us if we wanted drink refills.
Great food, great service and plenty of meat-free options.
ordered from here for the first time, based on the reviews. they forgot my rice and the chicken was mostly bone.
Buen servicio i comida deliciosos
Must go, went with my wife and staff of amazing. Great cafe and sweets. Great weekend vibe
Great Food! Will be going here more often
When eating a Roach Crawled up the wall. Then that evening I had Uncontrollable diarrhea.
It was very clear that the waitress treated us poorly because of the color of our skin. She was kind to all the Caucasian customers and anytime we attempted to ask for assistance she would ignore us or become very rude. When I tried to tell her about the service she rolled her eyes. I will never go back there again.
Best, most flavorful Thai food I’ve ever had
Everything here is delicious! The coconut thai soup is wonderful, as well as the eggplant dish! We always stop by when in the area - they never disappoint!
Fun fun fun 😊. Lisa d'Roue, Kevin, good looking, Mendy, Teresa. Poor Kevin, he didn't have a chance in here that day.
Our waitress was very engaging with a true desire to make us feel like family. She demonstrated the most pleasant attitude while meeting our request. I recommend Café Equator to all my friends.
Great Thai food! Always consistent. Great lunch specials.
The food is good but they're is one particular server, black hair with glasses, who's extremely rude and nasty to me every time I go. This particular time I actually caught her glaring at me when I turned my head around at the host stand. I never throw around the word racist but it was very obvious to myself and my friend that I was dining with, that is what we noticed the particular way I was being treated yet again. I've worked in the service industry for over 20 years and I'm also a great tipper. It's very unfortunate because the food is actually really good but bad service can make good food taste bad.
Went here yesterday. The lady who does seating was kind of rude. The waitress was great. Food was good overall.
Staff was also very friendly and attentive.
good food. nice staff. overall, a good experience.
A reliable option for first rate Thai food!
Always consistent full flavor. Plenty on the plate. New spicy beef app is choice. The curry is excellent. See you next time
Food was absolutely delicious.
0 stars! The worst experience ever! They’re racist towards black people. The waiter threw the menu on the table, jacked the menu out of our hand when we placed the order. We watched her actions change to nice and pleasant to caucasians and her own ethnicity. She was going to seat an asian couple next to us and said let me see if we have more seats, you don’t have to sit by them. She then charged 4 of us a 20% gratuity (which is 5 or more). She then got very loud and ugly to cause a scene to make it look like it was us.
Bad customer service towards black people! Food is mediocre!
We must support black businesses!!! Not give spend our money on places where we are not welcomed.
Food was good...
Clean but had no real taste of thai food not even close
The place looks better than the food tastes & our server was not friendly.
I would not eat here again.
We ordered many times from Cafe Equator, it is the first time they are missing sth. I call them and they arranged their staff delivered the missing part immediately and gave us two Thai Tea for free, really good service and good food, highly recommended! 👍
It makes you want to go to Thailand. But once you go Thailand, you want to get back here.
No offense to restaurant in Thailand, while Cafe Equator is significantly above average.
Been a patron for years and suddenly got hit with a 10% hidden fee almost $20 on a $200 pickup order TODAY. I would've been okay had I been notified of this charge when I made the call, but they just lost a loyal customer. Receipt says "takeout packaging service". It's NOT okay to not disclose this beforehand.
This is not my first time ordering takeout over $100.
So disappointed because I recommended so many people to this place.
Horrible experience!! First walk in the lady with the short black hair and she wears glasses. She was very nastiest and rude . Everyone has a bad day sometimes . But don’t take it out on potential customers! That’s bad business!
Yum!
I can not rave enough about this place!
We were seated quickly and our server Becky was astronomical! She was funny attentive and knowledgeable!
Terry was awesome and their dynamic made our visit memorable.
Stuffed chicken
We ordered the pad thai (shrimp)
A bottle of wine and lots of laughs!
Totally recommend this place 👌🏾
I loved everything!
By far the best Thai Food in New Orleans. This restaurant has been around for decades. I have tried other uptown restaurants that have come and go, but nothing compares to the food here. Very consistent. Only wish that the portions were larger, and that they had much better variety. It’s really sad that they do not have my favorite papaya salad.
So so so good. Like it’s consistently amazing.
Great location with a parking garage close by. That's important as the parking for the restaurant fills up fast. Nice interior with friendly, professional staff. Thai tea was on the sweeter side, but the drunken noodles were excellent. Definitely worth a stop if you want great Thai food.
Worst place for food I’ve ever been to. I mean why is ส้มตำ so damn plain and sweet. It’s supposed to include fish paste. For ผัดซีอิ๊ว, I mean please cook the noodles a bit longer and wait for it to be at an edible phase to serve customers. Service? So so, which I don’t really give a care.
Very authentic, excellent food.
Nice ambiance...good food...not as good selection of desserts
Very nice experience in Thai food!! Pork ribs and stuffed wings yammy
UPD: delicious coconut soup
Excellent food and great service
I went in for lunch and the food and prices were affordable; good service and the food was 😋 delicious, i will certainly go back and try more options on the menu
Great food and service
Clean, very nice and staff very friendly and food delicious 😋 👍
Horrible! I will never ever return. They gave or order to someone else. And the 3 Asian ladies are not African American customer friendly! But, the young boy who worked there had more customer service in his little finger than they had in all 3 of their bodies put together! Lol ...Horrible!
Wonderful food to sit and dine in or call ahead for pick up. Uber eats delivery available. Always great fresh food.
BEST PAD THAI EVEEERR
Just drove an hour for Coconut soup. I could take a bath in the stuff
Food was great, and I will definitely be back.
My favorite place for thai food. I’ve tried all thai spots and nobody can get it right but them! My favorites are the veggie rolls, basil fried rice, and their pad thai. Everything is always fresh and balanced between the proteins and veggies. Portions are always bigger when you order in than through uber. Their chili oil is a must with all of the entrees!! I literally eat here 3-4x a week, every time my friends ask where we should eat I always pick Equators. 🥹 Sorry to my friends~
Went for lunch. 2 menus w/lunch specials less$ than dinner. Portions good. Presentation very elegant and appealing. Thai Pad was wonderful. I am looking forward to lunch again w/friends.
Excellent food! Service was good.
Food was good but the service was horrible. The waitress kept rushing us. I got my check before my entree.
Holy moly! I was pleasantly surprised!

Great lunch place and really enjoyed one of the street food entrées. Please, make sure the soup is hot before serving, as mine was tepid... buy tasty
Great tasting Thai food!
Absolutely amazing Thai lunch. The best Thai meal of my life, so good. this is not hyperbole, that was my experience. In fact, our entire party felt that way. We have our own favorite Thai joints in DFW but this one beat them all. I'm taste, flavors and service. The staff is amazing. Big shout out to Dao. One of us is vegan due to health reasons and this cafe satisfied all the taste and flavor cravings. The clear tofu soup was superb. Cashew based stir fry, red curry, pad ki mow were all amazing. If you are in the area and love Thai cuisine, this one is it.
