Food and staff was amazing. I asked for spicy and they came through and it wasn't no pepper flakes it was real flavorful pepper. Gave 4 star for atmosphere as it's rather small inside there with very little seating options but the food was big on flavor and satisfaction. Definitely would go back and try them again.
I really hate to write this review 😓 I was so disappointed when I went last night. This restaurant is usually SO good and delicious. I don’t know what happened.
We ordered:
- calamari
- papaya salad (+$3 sticky rice)
- larb
- pad thai
- curry
The service was just awful. My server admitted to us 3 times that he forgot to put our orders in, and didn’t even apologize for doing so. When he asked us if we still wanted it, and we said yes, he wasn’t sure why. When we ordered our food, there was only one other table in the restaurant. The floors were so dirty. The food was not spicy at all despite being asked.
I don’t know if I’m going to come back.
Enjoyed our dinner. Ordered Tom Yum soup and Vegetable soup. They were so flavorful! Order 2 noodles dishes that were very large in portion, came out hot and also very flavorful! Service was very attentive and friendly. Too bad we are just traveling through because this would easily become a favorite!
I agree. The customer service is terrible! Food is terrible too. I never had any place that all dishes I ordered are non-eatable. They are super super super salty. We asked for water, and it really took a long time for them to bring over. Basically they didn’t check on us, even we asked for service, it took like forever. We came here because of the good reviews here. But this visit really make me question whether those reviews are real or not.
The atmosphere is very cozy and there is great parking outside. The food was extremely tasty and the portions were generous and well priced. My only critic was the service was on the slow side and they didn't get our bills correct (though we were splitting it three ways) they also forgot to deliver one of our orders of sushi until we were leaving So we had to box it to take it home which was a little unfortunate. I will return again in spite of this however.
I ordered Pad Thai and received an overly sweet plate of noodles and rubbery pork with a few bean sprouts and green onions. When I asked our server why it didn’t have all of the vegetables that it had the last time I ordered it, she informed me that they used to make it with shredded carrots and other vegetables but don’t anymore (no explanation as to why). She also made the argument that the menu doesn’t actually mention the vegetables anymore. In her defense, that would have been a completely valid point, if not for the fact that the picture of Pad Thai on their menu shows a very different looking meal with plenty of fresh vegetables. When I brought that to her attention she unapologetically responded that they never changed the picture. When I asked her if they could at least add any vegetables to my meal she suggested that I order a side of vegetables, for which I would have to pay extra. So basically no effort was made to address my complaint, or the dismal quality of food that she just served me. This place was never great, but the food used to be at least enjoyable. I’m assuming there may still be some decent items on the menu, but everything we ordered was at or below the quality of food you would get at a cheap Chinese buffet. Maybe it was an off night, but overall it just seemed like they’ve given up and don’t care anymore.

I love this place! Recommend the Tom KA soup! It’s to die for
I wish I had photos to show you. This place has the best Thai food I've ever tried. It's a fantastic restaurant.
Doordash people, don't take orders from this place. They report you to doordash for every little thing, no tip is worth getting dinged because you picked up an order 3 minutes late.

Got this to go, their crab rangoons are amazing. Everything I've had from there has great flavor!
This is my fave Thai food place,
Des Moines has just expanded so much and it's offerings of food.
I think Liam Anivat is still the major owner and I remember his food at Thai flavors on East 14th Street long ago. I used to go to that restaurant once a week. That restaurant is the mother ship.. I would rotate between Cafe Fusion and Thai Flavors.
Liam has become quite a entrepreneur of Thai restaurants he is the major owner of Cool Basil Banana leaf, and Thai Flavors on Ingersoll. He is really worked hard to have very large restaurants that serve delicious Thai food.
It's conveniently located along East 14th in a strip mall with limited parking
It can be a busy place so depending on the time of day lunch or dinner you may have to walk a little from your parking spot to the restaurant.
The restaurant is clean and.older but the food is still great It is similar menu items to his other restaurants. On this particular day I had red curry chicken, I.have had it at all his restaurants and it's consistently good.
I always like to support a locally owned business. Liam has developed quite a system and serving large amount of people at all his restaurants although the East 14th restaurants still has that old mom and pop kind of feel.
When he first opened this first restaurant there were not that many Thai restaurants around town. Now he's open many himself and there are other many quality Thai food restaurants around town
I think all of his restaurants have some healthier menu including fresh vegetable dishes. I believe they all have vegan dishes as well. Of course the restaurant has pot stickers basil stir fry, pad thai, and other traditional Thai restaurant dishes. There is lots of variety in the menu.
It's also about expectations, everyone is under staffed, so I always appreciate the service staff who are working. Having said that the service was fast and efficient .
It's also about being realistic about the food.
The food was served quick and hot.
I would definitely check this place out. If you're in the area it's well worth a visit
It was fun to visit an old neighborhood friend
We love Thai Flavors. I always bring my wife and kids, and they enjoy the food. My favorite dish is red curry chicken!
Mohamed
I usually love this restaurant (located on Ingersoll), however this experience was disappointing. I ordered the curry noodle, no spice with chicken and got the complete opposite. They did offer to switch it out, but I’d prefer a credit (not offered) since it was a Friday night and I was already home.
As always, very satisfied with Thai Flavors!
Poor customer service!!!
**Food Review: Thai Flavors on Southeast 14th**
As a die-hard fan of Thai Flavors, I’ve always raved about their food quality and service. But my last visit? Let's just say it was a plot twist worthy of a soap opera!
I walked in on a Thursday night with my friend from Burma, who was ready to dive into the world of Thai cuisine. The restaurant was as empty as my motivation on a Thursday around 7:45 PM—definitely not the lively atmosphere I was hoping for. Our waitress was a gem—super friendly and knowledgeable, which had me feeling optimistic.
Then our food arrived. I ordered the shrimp dish, which promised a delightful mix of cashews and squid. My friend went for the seafood platter, which should have been a treasure chest of mussels, scallops, and squid. Instead, I received a dish that was colder than a polar bear’s toenail! My veggies were lukewarm, and I could count the squid pieces on one hand—three, to be exact. Not exactly a squid party!
And what about the shrimp? Let’s just say it had all the flavor of a damp sponge. For $63, I expected an explosion of flavor, not a culinary whisper. I mean, for that price, I thought I’d at least get a side of “wow” with my meal!
So, here I am, a loyal customer left scratching my head and wondering if the chef was just having an off day or if they were in a race against time to close up shop. Thai Flavors, you've set the bar high, and I hope you get back to your delicious roots soon! Until then, I’ll stick to dreaming of better meals and more squid!
The food was not worth it. Pad tai shrimp was soupy with to much sauce and the container is always not full. The noodles were not cooked properly. I recommend the Ingersoll Thai flavor restaurant and I live a block away from the east 14th restaurant. I used to eat there two times a week but all I ordered now is the crab Rangoon and sometimes they aren’t good Service is always fast but the food isn’t good.
Food is always delicious! If you've never tried it I suggest the coconut rice! It's a sweet treat!!!
I was at the the 14th location on Wednesday night. I always pick the 14th St. Location because the food is always excellent And I’ve been going there for 20+ years. I hadn’t been there in a while. Typically, I drink Sauvignon Blanc, and that had been removed from the Menu which was disappointing. When we received our healthy rolls, they were broken and coming out of the rice paper. They just didn’t look the quality they had been in the past. When we received our food, it was a much smaller portion then what I’d experienced in the past. Also, the food was just not the same. My Hawaiian fried rice was supposed to be heat two stars, and it had no heat at all and the texture was completely different in that it had all this extra moisture than it normally does. The person with me ordered one star in their asparagus dish and was concerned that it was too hot. I tried it and it was too hot so she couldn’t eat it. Needless to say we took two to go boxes. I don’t know that I’ll go back to the location. I think I’ll try the Ingersoll location and see if that’s better.
Great prices + good portions and the food is delicious. Highly recommend just ordering the Thai plates
Ginger chicken and Tom Ka Kai soup (both 10 stars spice) are my all-time favorites!! Great food, great service, & cozy setting/atmosphere.
Great food! Fair warning their mild spice could knock out a white person. If you are not interested in heat, order 0 level, zero spice. The food is incredibly well seasoned and has so much depth of flavor.
Server didn't bring my drink ...
The food was excellent and the service was fantastic.
Very good food
Worst Thai ever in the last 3 years.
The taste was not good, they had chicken piece in a veggie dish. They never give my refund.
Good food and great service. The server explained the vegetarian and vegan options very well with the spice level guide. Loved the coconut fried rice and definitely the classics, the drunken noodles. Pad se Lew.
Server was excellent. Food was great. Had not been there for while but as good as I remembered
The service in TAI FLAVORS tailandés restaurant located in 14 ST Des Moines IA , is bad they charged me for party and it was only two people. Our waitress never came to check on us and ignore us when we would ask for something.
Excellent
Love this little place, super friendly staff and great food. Never disappoints.
Staff is always friendly.Food is very good very pleased
My large party of 13 stayed here for some Thai food. It took them a little while to set up a couple tables for my large group. The food came out fast. The food was great we ordered fried rice Pad Thai Pepsi U papaya salad. The food is very authentic I believe for this area. I would come and eat here again whenever I'm in the area.
I really hate to write this review 😓 I was so disappointed when I went last night. This restaurant is usually SO good and delicious. I don’t know what happened.
We ordered:

Very delicious! Would highly recommend!!
Good food and service it was my first time having it and I have to say that the pepper steak was amazing
I’d really like the food but the server is horrible
Could be spicier, but well cooked food and some flavors I've missed since my last trip to Thailand. The papaya salad was a good portion size and fresh, and the coconut soup (Tom Kha Gai) was great.
Panang curry is excellent.
Best Thai food in Iowa!
Delicious meal, excellent service a wonderful experience!
Food is always great.
The duck curry is amazing! Service was fast. Wife has Pad Thai and she said it was very good. I will for sure love to come back here again.
Great food. Very good service. Wouldn't recommend for a date, but it's clean.
The food here is fabulous. I have never been disappointed with it.
Food and service was good
Don’t let the simplistic name fool you!Every trip the food has been excellent and the pricing great for this level of quality. We have only done take out.
Ordered the Ka-Phrao, which is described as a "Spicy Stir-Fried" dish with hot peppers, 5 stars out of the 6 they offer. No "hot peppers" were in this dish. Only bell peppers. The food had absolutely no spice to it whatsoever. None. It was bland, tasteless garbage.
Delicious food but the spice level is inconsistent
Yeah the service isn't great but the food is good, better than anything else in the area in my personal opinion
Great prices, especially at lunch, decent portion sizes, and delicious food!
Tasty & well prepared food, adequate accommodation of food allergies, friendly & accommodating staff.
P.s,
You get to choose how spicy you want each individual dish. They provide a 1-10 scale for reference 🥰.
The last two times I’ve ordered edamame to go there has been no sauce or spice. The first time was 1 star so I thought that was the reason, tonight I ordered 3 stars and it tastes the exact same
Food is always great here. Doesn't matter what you get. The service isn't always great but they get the food to the tables.
The food wasn’t really edible. Won’t be back. The staff was very friendly tho.
Great food and excellent service
Excellent food, not at all blend, worth visiting again
We have been ordering food from this establishment for years never any problems not one. Let me just say maybe they were having a off night or maybe a new cook idk...I ordered fried rice with meat you could tell it was rushed allot or fat instead of meat clumps of rice and to make it worse some bone. I had a container of rice for something else and it was half full. Like I said maybe a rough night idk or maybe different ownership. I will go back just not for along while...
Best Thai place in town. Never disappoints
Always a great place to eat with friends. Great environment with good service. Excellent sushi bar and lots of menu options including vegetarian. Be sure to ask. Cash and cards accepted here. Huge parking lot and handicap accessible.
I ordered the sweet basil stir fry with level 3 heat and fried tofu and it was so amazing that I just had to write this review. 10/10 recommend this restaurant, especially if you need vegan or vegetarian options in Des Moines!
The best Thai food in town 😋😛we love this place 😍
I can't give them enough stars! I have been coming here for years, and I have never been disappointed. The flavor of their spices is spot on, even if you do not want any stars (Heat of spice) it still has the great flavor. They always have plenty of staff, that is very friendly and attentive. It is clean and the ambience is pleasing. If you haven't been here, you should give it a try!
Great food! Very authentic and made to order so it was hot and fresh!
Servers were super friendly and easy to speak with. Happy to answer any questions I had, were always on top of refills, and didn't take too long to get our orders in or to us.
The food itself has generous portions and high quality. I had the green curry and my husband had a pineapple cashew chicken dish. Both were phenomenal and delicious, and we had enough leftover for three more meals.
The Thai iced tea was delightful and the chicken satay was served with a cucumber salad that was divine. Would come here again!
Great food always
You wouldn't expect it from the unassuming outside, but this place is awesome.
Thai flavors never ceases to be awesome! My door dash forgot my roll. I ended up driving there and the staff was so awesome and just super nice and just overly accommodating. They've been my favorite for over 10 years and still are! Thank you!
Great place to eat at!
My family eats here often and always enjoy the food!
Every time we go there no matter what we always love what we get and the crab rangoons are delicious.
Several years back, yes Thai Flavors was top tier and delicious. However, that is definitely not the case now. I stretch my patience with the E 14th location because of convenience but I won't do it ever again. Ordered my usual, shrimp in a blanket and Hawaiian dish, got home to ear and ugh!! The shrimp in a blanket tasted nasty and old immediately. I unrolled it and the shrimp wasn't fresh or vibrant.
I called the restaurant to let them know, not expecting too much of a solution. The only conclusion we came to was that because I wasn't able to bring back my dish tonight in exchange for a new dish, that they would refund my money for the dish.
Great place for good price
Such delicious and fresh food. Right amount of heat. Will go again.
We get takeout from here a lot and are always satisfied. Large portions could account for two meals. I typically get the ginger chicken/tofu or laarb salad. I will say the spice level can vary. So if you get a 1 start it may taste like a 2 or 0 start. They can also make most things gluten free.
Always a great place for Thai
Enjoyed our dinner. Ordered Tom Yum soup and Vegetable soup. They were so flavorful! Order 2 noodles dishes that were very large in portion, came out hot and also very flavorful! Service was very attentive and friendly. Too bad we are just traveling through because this would easily become a favorite!
Quiet but lively & ambient atmosphere with good servers and delicious, filling, and inexpensive food.
This is the best Asian Food restaurant in Des Moines. Try the Pad Thai and Thai iced tea...however, everything on their menu here is excellent. I ordered the Cha-Am Pineapple Shrimp and white rice w/ added scallops. It was delicious. I couldn't eat it all and had enough leftovers to take home for another dinner the next day. Highly recommend this place.
Delicious food and fabulous staff!!
So i just order ka phro beef and the food test like grabbed.!!
Great tasting food with very friendly service.
Solid Thai food option for Des Moines. Cozy dining in or good for take out. Big fan of Tom kha kai soup and a little sushi.
Tried their new dish, garlic egg noodles & loved it. I recommend it.
Love It great food
Best Thai food in Des Moines area. We drove from the suburbs to try this place It was totally worth it.
Overpriced, tastes like frozen noodles from Walmart, tiny portion on my order.
Terrible customer service! If you are gluten-free try to avoid it as much as you can !! I ordered a gluten free pad Thai and it was terrible
Love the food and employees.
Delicious food and great service. This has become a staple for us for takeout. The crab Rangoons and veggie delight are some of my favorites. All the curries are excellent, as is the pad see ew.
Our go-to place for Thai food! Never had to wait to be seated and always had great service and tasty meals. Highly recommend!
Ordered for delivery and a friend recommended the yellow curry. It was my first time having curry in my life, and it was excellent. Really reminds me of homemade chicken noodle soup, but from a very different perspective. Crab rangoons weren't my favorite, but that's my personal taste. They're slightly sweet with a very generous amount of crab and green onion. The co-workers I ordered with were raving about them, so I'm keeping my score high.
All in all, will return. The food was excellent and very high quality.
Ordered for the first time and was amazed. The flavor with each bite, and the spice level is perfect. Had the Pad Thai with fried rice. Will be ordering again. Absolutely delicious.
Don’t ever get sticky rice from there!!! It’s very hard, and they don’t have a sweet chili sauce that is good, they give you this really hot sauce and their sweet and sour which is not good at all! Disappointed. Their noodles are also not very good either
Fantastic food. New favorite. Service is normally great but last visit we had some issues
Always good.
Great to go with family.
Don’t offer takeout if you are not able to execute it. Ordered food through their website at 5 with delivery for 630. Arrived at 7:10
Great food. I almost always carry out and food is always hot!
Food was so delicious I forgot to take pics. Great place! Definitely will go back.
Great food. Love the Panang curry and Sweet basil
Good food. Spicy and with big portions. Authentic Thai food with a big menu. Those who want spicy food must come here
i used to love this place and go regularly till they told me that they could not make any of the curries for me without fish sauce. So no go for vegetarians.
Deliciously thick curry! Panang and green were excellent. Traditional Pad Thai looked very good too. Hot stars are not hot. Go for 6 ✨
Nice quaint little spot. Excellent food served by Gorgeous little ladies. Pick your heat!!
Excellent food! I eat here once every week and their food is consistently great!
The food is great, very large portion sizes at a surprisingly good price. I will mention that their 1 star mild, is still somewhat spicy. Slightly spicier than the equivalent salsa...we got the yellow curry rice and curry noodles. It was great and we have leftovers. Like I said. Large portion sizes.
Surprisingly good! I enjoyed the Yum Neur and Three Flavors fish.
Good food quality and quantity.
Our favorite Thai restaurant. The yellow curry is amazing. Never had a bad dish here and the staff is awesome
The rad nah is essentially mushroom soup- no gravy and no broccoli flavor- pretty gross
Great pricez, food and service
