Take out only , no dine- in
This is our favorite local Thai restaurant. If I'm sick, I get my medicine from the doctor and my Tom Yum soup from Thai Aree House. The person working out front when I pick up my order is an absolute delight and has included fresh fruit, many sauces, and special instructions with every meal. I know he doesn't know me but it feels like he really cares about me and his other customers. I'm sure after enjoying several meals here that that's true of the people in the kitchen too. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for Thai food in Albany Park or Jefferson Park.
The take out Crab Fried Rice and Pad Thai dishes took 20 min to be ready and were tasty and sufficiently big. The chef (owner?) was polite and attentive. No other customers were in the small restaurant when I picked up our order.
I've always struggled to get a Thai place to make the food as spicy as I like it. This place understood the assignment -- delicious, and SPICY!!
The owners are super nice and the food is fantastic. They even gave us a huge slice of watermelon last time we ordered.
MORE PEOPLE NEED TO EAT HERE!!! I just got takeout for the first time and wow. The basil fried rice is my favorite Iβve had in the city. Not to mention the owner is one of the sweetest men on the planet, and walked us through the menu, spiciness levels, and all the different sauces with so much patience and kindness. He even gave us a slice of watermelon to take home with our takeoutπ will be back and highly recommend!
The food is outrageously good and the man at the counter (guessing he is the owner) is wonderful. Heβs helpful and welcoming and just a pleasure to deal with. Iβm so glad I took a chance. Iβve got lots of decent Thai around me and the menu is a bit different here. Everything Iβve had has been so good.
Some of the best Thai food made by the sweetest people

Great food and very friendly service!
The owners are super nice and the food is fantastic. They even gave us a huge slice of watermelon last time we ordered.
Great food!
I think this place is neat. The guy at the counter always explains everything and makes sure everything is in bag and that you arenβt missing anything.
A very nice place to go to when your craving for Thai foods. Their Kang Green Curry is the best!
First time eating Thai foods. Their noodle dishes are very tasty. I'm coming back here for sure.
Seriously delicious food- the noodle dishes are our goto π₯Literally fire cus they're so spicy (in a good way)
Owners are the sweetest too!
*Carry out only
*They typically close May - mid July
The food was delicious, and the staff were very courteous.
Food was delicious. The owner is the nicest person alive. Making this a regular spot for pick up. Cannot recommend more
Delicious and affordable. Spicy! Larb was amazing as was the panang curry.
A great find. A humble hole-in-the-wall with friendly service and expertly prepared, delicious food.
Like visiting Thailand cooked by your Thai family. Always friendly, super attentive, can be prepared to all levels of spice, super delicious, and highly recommend! Have visited for decades and always positively memorable!
Delicious and affordable. Spicy! Larb was amazing as was the panang curry. Everything we ordered was delicious and beautifully decked out with extras.
This place is great! Small family owned spot with excellent food and service
Incredible mom and pop restaurantβthey are so sweet. Be careful ordering spice levels; this restaurant is not messing around. Trust me and start with the medium. Even the salad with fresh vegetables and tofu at medium spice was a challenge. Wash down with the duck noodle soup containing wide rice noodles, and a clear full-bodied brothβperfect for a cold or sick day. Take-out only although the ambience and decor were great. Support this small business!
Update: The Masaman curry is so comforting from the rich and creamy coconut milk. We ordered the Noodle Kee Mow (stir fried rice noodles with tomato, basil leaves, onions, bean sprouts and hot chili pepper) in medium and it was enough spice to cover the two other entrees and appetizer.
Everytime I dine in at Thai Aree House, I always get their Pad Thai. Each bite is an explosion of flavors. It's so satisfying that I always order extra to enjoy later at home.

Take out or delivery only but the best Thai food in Chicagoland. Been going here for over 20 years.
Some of our favorite food for takeout! We always order extra for leftovers. The owners are so sweet and remember you and make you feel like family. Amazing curry, beef lar nar, pad see yew, and pad Thai. Our favorite though are the perfectly spiced shrimp in a blanket. E
Best Thai food in Irving Park.
Wonderful owner and great drunken noodles!! We will be back!!
Delicious food and friendly service. This place is all things wonderful.
The food is SO good! My family has been going here for decades and every time the food is incredible. It's owned and run by the nicest couple. I've had other Thai food all around Chicago but nothing compares. Can't recommend it highly enough! (Take out only now)
First time in; was terrific! Ask the owner for recommendations. Loved the Yum Nue and wouldnβt have tried it otherwise. Thanks again.
The ownerβs recommendations were outstanding. Not only that but the service was wonderful. Kind, friendly communication, fast service, great food. Highly recommend.
Favorite Thai restaurant in Chicago! Great Tam Kah Gai soup. The owners are very friendly and always able to make recommendations about spice level and any add ons you may need. Sad that they closed their in-person dining, but always happy to order to go!
Best Thai restaurant I've found in Chicago, it's very legit. Owner is also very friendly! Also be careful, the items can be very spicy!
Truly excellent Thai food, from popular Thai-American take out staples to deeper Thai cuisine classics, they do it all well. Try the laarb, tom kha gai, and the pad see ew. We like to order everything mild, and ask for hot sauce and Thai chilis on the side.
The husband and wife owners are great at what they do. The husband is out front and he's always excited to give you advice on what condiments and spicy peppers to put on each dish. So glad this place is around the corner from us.
This is far and away our favorite Thai restaurant. The cook creates clean and vibrant dishes which are so flavorful. Eddy, the owner, is a sweetheart and is very caring. Our favorite dishes are basil chicken (we ask for chopped rather than ground chicken,) pad kee mao tofu, the papaya salad, and the tom yum soup with shrimp.
This place was delicious! They honor how spicy you ask for πΆ but it doesnβt lose the flavor. And yes the owner is lovely! He even offered suggestions how to mix the sauces for each dish. We will definitely be back.
Everyone in reviews talks about how nice the man is on the phone and when you pick up, our experience was no different! Such a nice man and helpful as can be. Was the finishing touch on a fantastic meal. Finally, we found a place around here with good pad thai!! The pad see iu was not as saucy as I've had other thai places - I liked this better! It had a grilled flavor factor that was very tasty. Will be back often!
This place is surprisingly good. Lots of love and care put into the food and I was especially impressed at the freshness of the seafood. They really got their flavors figured out. I found this place significantly and noticeably better than some of the other Thai places in the area.
Great place. Authentic style and very friendly people.
Great food; good service
I moved across town, but I still come here. The food is excellent, the operators are kind, and it's an honor to have been their neighbors. :)
Recently moved to the area and this has become one of our favorite restaurants. They provide absolutely fresh and delicious food every time. On top of the delicious food, the service is outstanding. Thai Aree provides such kind and neighborly service. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Best Thai food I've had since I was in Thailand over 7 years ago. The couple that runs the restaurant are fantastic as well!
The best Thai around!
Food is phenomenal, and the man that does the takeout orders (the owner I assume) is so friendly and nice. My favorite Thai place in Chicago.
Finally, A New Updated Menu
January 2021
Thai Aree House is one of my Absolute Favorite Thai Restaurants in Old Irving Park Neighborhood. It has been around for about 30+ years & still going strong! Eddie & Ann are an Amazing Team. No matter how busy the restaurant is the food still taste the same! The Quality & Quantity is why i come back. Everything just taste so Amazing. My personal favorites are the Mixed Satay (love there peanut sauce), Fresh Garlic Beef (love the fresh slices of garlic on top), Tom Kha Vegetable Soup (coconut broth is very light but flavorful & love that the vegetables are crunchy.
Please be patient with this restaurant. They do get very busy but everything is made to order. HIghly Recommend to try it!!!
Love it all
Best thai food in the area hands down. You can really tell how much the owner cares about his restaurant and his customers. With all that said it's also very reasonably priced. Word to the wise, if you don't like spicy seriously get mild/no spice. If you love spice though this is the place!
Great takeout food and service.
Simply the very best Thai food around
delicious and affordable!
Menu and restaurant prices donβt match check receipt prior to leaving
Absolute trash food
Been going there for 35 years. Ed and Ann are wonderful. The food is terrific
This was my first time trying Thai Aree. We tried chicken satay, beef pad thai, and green curry with beef. The food was so good!! I ordered medium and it was perfectly spicy (and I love spicy). The curry was super flavorful - probably the best Iβve had in Chicago. The couple that own the restaurant are very friendly. I look forward to trying more dishes.
Best Thai in old Irving Park! I usually get any of the curries.
Ordered pickup and found the food really exceptional. Complex flavors, fresh vegetables, ample portions and they *really* make it spicy upon request. Very pleased to have this place so close and we will be back!
A great local family restaurant! They've been part of our neighborhood for years and everything is so tasty. I've been getting takeout during our stay at home, usually with a 20 to 30 minute prep time, with excellent service as always.
They've been open 4:00 to 8:00pm Monday through Saturday, which helps when some of the other local restaurants shut down at 6:00 p.m. these days.
This is a hidden gem in the neighborhood. Favorites include the beef salad, noodles with broccoli and peanut sauce, and the coconut curry. Dine in or take out are both consistently solid and the owner couldnt be any nicer. And byob!
Delicious food!!! Friendly owner!!! Always enjoy every visit here!!!
Love this place. Great food great service
Dirty bad service
They stole my money
Charged my credit card twice
Small food portions
Beware!!!!!
Food and service was great
Customer service is top notch. Love the atmosphere and the food is fresh. Definitely coming back here!
Delicious! Just ate last night and can't wait to go back. Authentic and spicy
Yeah this was the best Thai food Iβve ever had. We had the Pad See Ewe and the Garlic and Pepper dinner dish, plus the hot crysanthemum tea and spring rolls. Literally everything was mouthwateringly good, the service was phenomenal, the price was ridiculously fair and I pretty much have no complaints whatsoever. I donβt ever write restaurant reviews, so if something is so good that it makes me review it on Google, itβs gotta be good.
Closed until 7/9/19
This place it's a hiding spot , the food its spectacular
Hands down best Thai food in Chicago. Small family run business so don't be in a hurry. The portions are great size and it is 100% authentic Thai. It is soooo good!
Great service and delicious Thai food
You gotta check this place out. Super good food and BYOB.
We had an excellent meal, and we were impressed by how considerate the service was. We ordered an appetizer and main dish. The soup noodle was very tasty. Afterwards we were brought a small plate of fruit. They even gave us a to go cup to bring some hot tea out on a cold winter day. The music was tasteful, not loud, very pleasant. Decorations were homey.
Wonderful!
Authentic, fresh, perfect.
I took several of my shoes to this shoe repair and they always do such a amazing job! and shober delivers my shoes so quickly it was amazing. Great people and great service!
They bring the heat!! And it tastes good too!
I've been to Thailand several times, and this place is legit. Staff is great too. A very nice little family- owned neighborhood place.
Delicious, authentic Thai food with extremely attentive service. Real Thai heat and flavor!
The food is excellent and the prices are reasonable. However, be warned that this place does not serve hot coffee. Hot coffee is listed on their menu, but in reality they only serve Thai iced coffee.
Best service. Great owners and delicious food. Anything you eat here it's so good. Best Thai food I've ever had. Love this place.
Best Thai food in the area. Owner is very friendly. Dishes well made and worth the little bit more they charge. BYOB.
Best food in town,
Great service, great food. Spicy, sweet, sour, and delicious. The service is great and the food comes out within 15 minutes, depending on the time of day. Great Thai food. Recommended highly.
Seriously the best. This has got to be what home cooked Thai food tastes like. I always feel like I'm at my aunt and uncle's place when I eat here. Massamun Curry, Rama Chicken, and Tofu Pad Thai are some good selections to start off with.
Love this place, same owner for years, food is great, always a pleasure
The best ever
authentic Thai flavors across the menu. great family operated restaurant. call ahead.. sometimes closed for extended family holiday.
Best Thai place in Chicago. I make sure to come to this place Everytime we are in town. I always choose Panag curry. Vegetables are fresh and curry is amazing. Highly recommend this place.
I got the shrimp fried rice. It was great !
Probably the best Thai food I have ever had!
Yum
Excellent service. The tom ka is phenomenal, mee krob is fresh and home made that day. I tried the pad Thai also once and it was great as far as pad thai's go. Definitely coming back
One of the best Thai restaurants ever!
Our favorite Thai restaurant in the city. Very friendly service.
Great food, quiet ambiance, BYOB and the service is excellent!
Delicious food

Great Thai Food
Excellent Thai food in a comfortable, cozy place. Run by a friendly husband and wife team, you feel like an old customer every time. They give great recommendations. You cannot go wrong with anything on the menu. They will adjust spiciness to any tastes. I have never had a bad experience in eight years of eating here.
I love coming here. The owner is such a humble man and he has amazing customer service skills. His wife is an amazing cook. I don't go anywhere else for Thai food.
There are so many Thai restaurants to choose from it is hard to stand out from the crowd but this place does and for not that much more in price. If you like spicy, the food here will make you sweat. The curries have a nice flavor and the basil dishes really are special. I took friends and they liked it too.
This is absolutely the best place for Thai food in the City of Chicago! We usually order the Spicy Basil Chicken, Panang Curry, Thai Sausage, and Shrimp in a Blanket. It's a BYOB, no corkage fee. The food comes out hot and is always great. Be careful because their spicy is super spicy, makes you sweat spicy. They always take a couple of weeks off to go to Thailand so it's a good idea to call to make sure it's open. The husband runs the front of the house and his wife runs the kitchen, they know our faces, and always recommend something that we would like. Even recommended something for my boys (4 & 8) to share. Love it here!!!!
The guy running the place went out of his way to make sure everything was just right. Explained which spices to use, what went well with what. The food was great. Very nice inviting warm place.
Authentic and delicious Thai food in a friendly atmosphere.
Small restaurant, BIG flavor!
This place is amazing! Dishes and thai iced coffee on point, service wonderful
One of the better Thai places in Chicago. Food is actually made spicy when asked and the staff are super friendly. Highly recommended place.
What a great experience!!!... the BEST service I have ever had in a restaurant... it's an small and modest place, but very comfortable and well decorated. The food is great, the tea is delicious, and the best thing was the sauce I asked for my pad thai, the best homemade sweet and sour sauce I have ever try... must try it...
I love this place, the garlic beef and curry (all of them) are my fave.
Awesome food, awesome service. Karee Curry recommended.
Really good Thai food in my neighborhood old school mom and pop shop with good food. The pad Thai is awesome and love there fried rice as well!
The best Thai in Chicago I've tried so far. Love the Panang curry. Be careful, very spicy, get mild before you try medium. Thai ice tea is also amazing. Can't go wrong with anything on the menu.
Good service , bit pricier than other places . tom yum soup will taste a bit more lime/ lemon could be because the different spice they use
Easily the best, most authentic tasting Thai food outside of Thailand. This is a weekly staple for my wife and I.
The place is a sort of hole in the wall (though clean), but the service is out of this world. The place is run by a husband and wife with one person that helps them occasionally when they're busier on the weekends.
Try the Beef Garlic or the Panang Curry!
Looking for an appetizer? Try the Shrimp in Batter (its only available if they are not busy)
Best Thai in Chicago! Sadly we have been once a week for the past 4 weeks. Great food and great staff! BYOB too!
I have been here before and will always be a happy customer. Forget Manee Thai. The authenticity of Thai food prepared here is spot on. Cozy and pleasant. the owner and his wife are amazing people and show a great deal of love and passion in what they prepare. Recommended to all.
Really great Thai food! Always freshly prepared and done to perfection. In my opinion it's got the best PadThai. The curry is delicious and when you order it medium hot it is hot! I have never had anything off the menu that was not delicious. I highly reccommend this place. I've never been disappointed!
As a culinary professional it is hard to find a place where the food meets a level
It was okay. The location inside was a little dated and very empty for a Friday, however the food was okay. The owner was very polite and extremely kind provide me with a water while I ordered and helped me with choosing his best recommendations. I offered the pad Thai and the meat had an overwhelming taste that my Tate buds did not like. I could not finish the meal. The fried rice was normal.
I'm surprised this hole in the wall doesn't have more reviews. It's truly a hidden gem among the Thai restaurants in the city. The quality of the food on the standard menu is high, and the jolly owner is a hoot if he is your server. The heat levels here go higher than most places I've been to, but not at the expense of other flavors in the food.
