Thai restaurant serving delicious and Northern Thai regional cuisine. A cute and quaint place that is BYOB and provides great service and attention.
They moved to a different location off Lawrence in the same space as Kimberli sushi, and the quality has gone down exponentially. The dish I received was missing half the ingredients listed and the staff refused to speak to or acknowledge me when I picked up. To top it all off the food tasted strange. A truly bizarre experience all around.
Out of all Thai restaurants in Chicago, this place impressed me the most! They have different menus for those who like adventurous authentic Thai food. Nice small place, and food tastes like what I had in Chiang Mai, Thailand. And the owner is very friendly. I’m very surprised that this place didn’t get many dining in. But I saw many people picked up the food they ordered online. So give it a try ;)
the food is delicious
( I had the green curry with chicken + Thai peanut spring rolls)
it's more than reasonably priced
from what I gathered, this place is family owned and has been passed down
The owner and staff were friendly + welcoming
the ambiance of the place is also colorful and very inviting! Definitely somewhere I would take my partner out to for a cozy date

Our family dined here on a Saturday night. They seem to do mostly take out and it was really quiet in the restaurant. The ambiance could be better, but the staff was friendly. We tried the pad thai, some curries, and the orange chicken. The food was standard Thai flavorings and fine. The curries were really watery which wasn't what I would expect. We got baby egg rolls for the starter and those were a hit with our toddler. All in all it was a nice family dinner - good for a neighborhood spot for takeout, but probably won't dine in again.
This used to be my favorite Thai restaurant in the city when it was Rainbow Thai. I'm not sure when it changed its name to Rainbow Thailand Street Food, but it seems that new owners are trying to take advantage of the previous restaurant's excellent reputation. This was hands-down the worst Thai food I've ever eaten. Inedible, it was all thrown away, a waste of $90. The chicken satay was not made of tenders, but small pieces of chicken breast, and was flavorless. The Thai jerky was low-quality beef and hard as a rock. The fried rice tasted like it was cooked inn old oil. The pad see iew was too sweet and the tofu tasted sour. The ground chicken basil tasted burnt. Never ordering again!
omg lovee the food here! I always walk and always see people smiling walking out so I decided to give it a try.
Aside from the stable and delicious Kee Mao and Tom Yum that fried chicken is a must order! it's savory and touch of sweet. the sauce is slightly tang. I was super full after my meal here and still wanted to eat more lol
Unbelievably long wait times. I ordered from them at 8 pm. By 9 30 they were still making the food. I went physically to the restaurant to figure out what's up. Not a single guest was there. There are signs inside that say "Calm Down, there are only 2 people working here." OK. . .but there are no guests. No free food or discount offered. . .I went to pick up the food myself. They claimed it was tech problems but I tried to call them 3 times. Ridiculous. Stay away.
Looking for delicious Thai food? Look no further! Sincerely impressed with everything we tried on the menu. My wife really enjoyed the salad with glass noodles. I loved the garlic shrimp and the chef created some delicious tofu dishes. 5 star meal!
I ordered through UberEats and never received my order. They refused to answer the phone and even potentially blocked my number after I tried calling. Their original ETA was 35 minutes. Over 2 hours later I am still waiting on the delivery or even a status update on the food.

We got take out and the food appears to be rotten. It smells awful and looks to have been past due. We ended up throwing it away instead of risking eating it.
Always go to thai restaurant that serve somtam a.k.a papaya salad! Love it! Ordered papaya salad, green chicken curry, and rama chicken. Delicious!
Hello, I placed an order with the restaurant for them to cancel it VIA EMAIL within 15 mins of pickup time. It was my first time ordering from this restaurant, and the customer service regarding my canceled order was subpar. I will not be ordering from here ever again.
I was excited to try a neighborhood Thai place with good reviews, but our delivery order never showed up and I was never able to reach anyone at the restaurant resolve the situation. I tried calling and texting, but no one ever answered. It was a very disappointing and frustrating experience for a first time customer - won’t be trying this place again.

We played a food delivery through their website on 9/5/24 - food never came. Called the restaurant to check status and no one answered the phone, voice mailbox was full. Seeking a refund. I would avoid ordering from this restaurant.
Horrible. The food is not the same after they changed owners. This was my go to place for 8 years and I’ll never order again. We had to throw out the food.

I just had the same issue as someone else. Ordered delivery, time changed to nearly an hour later. I get the wrong curry, which is too spicy for me to eat, and the satay was inedible. Stringy, small bits of chicken. Old cucumber salad, so beyond vinegary. Very oily satay sauce
This was my favorite Thai place for 10 years. This was so bad that I think it’s time to look for new place.
This is literally the worst Thai food I've ever had, and the service experience was abysmal. When I ordered for pickup, they gave me a 1+ hour pickup time, which I found a bit long, but figured they were busy. Got the notification, went to pick up the order. The place was a ghost town--I didn't see many, if any, people inside the seating area. No one was behind the counter, nor did anyone come out once I walked in. I saw a bag with my name on it, so I waited for a bit, no one showed up, I took it home. I got the papaya salad and crispy pork and Chinese broccoli. Both terrible. Papaya salad had no spice, no dried shrimp, hardly any flavor at all. The pork was so hard and overdone that it hurt my teeth. I couldn't eat either of the dishes. To sum up: this place took an hour to make two horribly worse than subpar dishes, when they obviously were not busy and couldn't even show up at the front of the house. I will never order from here again, and I wish I never had.
Best Thai food I’ve had outside Thailand. So impressed and happy to have found this restaurant!
Great spot. Really big menu and everything we had was delicious. Highly recommend this hole in the wall.
Went to Rainbow for the first time a couple of months ago and it was great. Food tasted authentic and I was so glad to have my native food so close to me. However, the past few times I've tried to call in an order no one picked up the phone. I'm not sure if the number listed on Google is correct, but I've tried calling different times/days during business hours with no luck. My husband has also tried to walk in and order and had to wait over 5 minutes before having to shout for someone to come out from the kitchen. Seems like there was only 1 person working and there was a huge language barrier and the person couldn't understand what my husband was trying to order and on one else was around to help so he just left. I think they're severely understaffed right now. Until they can get their stuff back together we probably won't be back and it's a shame because their food was actually pretty good.
Looking for delicious Thai food? Look no further! Sincerely impressed with everything we tried on the menu. My wife really enjoyed the salad with glass noodles. I loved the garlic shrimp and the chef created some delicious tofu dishes. 5 star meal!
We grabbed a very quick dinner on Sunday night right before they closed. I had THE BEST yum woonsen I have ever had!!!🥺❤️🔥The pad seiw was great too! I can taste the street food authenticity - it was very freshly cooked and had so much amazing flavor!! The amount was great too.💯I wanted to order a second one for take out to eat at home. It was that good! I can't wait to go back and order more! The staff is so kind and friendly and so generous, too!!🙏✨✨Thank you very much and see you very soon! YUMMY YUMMY💕
Man. This place used to be the best of the best. The Thai fried chicken was the best in Chicago and the Hoisin sauce that came with it was one of a kind. Then something happened. Now you get a different panang curry every time you order. You can ask for mild, but without reading the request, you will get 'burn your face off so you can't enjoy it hot. The panang now tastes like it was made by a toddler with access to the chili powder. Just hot and tasteless and bad. Don't even get me started on whatever the Thai fried chicken is trying to be and the insanely hot sauce that comes with it. First world problems, I know, but man. What happened? It gets worse and worse and worse. I will likely never order again. Thai roulette. It's a real shame.
Rainbow Thailand just reopened and the new menu is amazing. I am a big fan of Thai street food and they have amazing dishes like crispy rice salad! Try something different than Pad Thai and you will br amazed.
Placed pickup order via their website. Charge went through. Arrived and restaurant was locked, no sign of anybody inside. Sign on door also indicated it should have been open. Bummer, loved the old Rainbow.
Have been going to Rainbow Thai for years. In a neighborhood with many Thai restaurants Rainbow always stood out for the quality of its food, it was excellent. However in the past few months I've noticed it slipping, the quality of the ingredients, one example is Thai Fried Chicken, but also other dishes. I was told the long time owner went back to Thailand but I'm not sure if they've gone back permanently or if they'll be back in the restaurant again. They are missed.
What a gem in our neighborhood! Authentic Thai with charm, down to the music. A very pleasant and filling experience!
truly special place with really delicious, affordable, and fresh tasting food.
Love this place! Great homestyle Thai food for an amazing price!
The restaurant is excellent. The food was delicious! The waiter was very courteous. The toilets are very clean. They don't charge a BYOB fee!!!! This restaurant is a wonderful place!!!!
I love this place. Have been coming here for years with my family and friends. Always a welcoming vibe, like home. Too many favorites on the menu to list them all but definitely get the crispy rice salad and the beef jerky. You won’t be mad about about the fried chicken or the noodles or the curries or really anything!
We looked for another Thai restaurant for dine-in. This one was remotely to us, so we thought twice. Turned out that it was not bad, just service that was slow due to lack of staffs. They apologized for that. We ordered Thai Papaya Salad, Thai style fried chicken, Northestern style sausages, Chinese broccoli with crispy pork. By the way, it was BYOB. I did not take pics at this time.🌺
Very fresh and authentic Thai. Reasonably priced & BYOB. Try the fresh spring rolls with peanut sauce, Thai beef jerky, Isaan sausage, and fried rice Nam (fermented pork). My favorite Thai on Western (there are a string of them). They just started doing indoor dining again & are short staffed - service may be a bit slower, but the owners (also the chefs) are so kind and will chat about the dishes if you ask. Highly recommended.
It's a small, family-run spot with functional if not flashy indoor seating. The food, however, is top notch. I've tried Pad Woonsen, Thai Omelet on Rice, & of course the Pad Thai, & all were excellent. It seems like they're still sorting out the pricing & online presence, but are helpful if you call with any questions. Recommended
omg lovee the food here! I always walk and always see people smiling walking out so I decided to give it a try.

This was truly a gem in a rough! The food was fantastic.
Best Thai food in Chicago
Staff was very nice. The food was good. They are short staffed right now,so the service was as good as they could do. The prices are very fair. Not fancy, but good for a simple thai meal.
Always exceptional Thai take out - I’ve tried them all and this one is truly the best. The food is packaged with such care and has great flavor. Will not disappoint
A must go restaurant for Thai food lovers in Chicago! It not only offers staple Thai food but also offers a great selection of traditional authentic Thai dishes. BYOB. It has been my and my family's go to place for Thai food for years.
Best Thai in Chicago and maybe this side of the Mississippi. I'd give it 10 stars if I could. The crispy rice salad, ground chicken basil and Thai beef jerky are all standouts. But in the dozens of times I've ordered from here, I've never had a bad dish. Some items (like the crispy rice salad) are only available if you dine in or call in your order, they're not available on the online menu. The owners are super nice and the dining room is BYOB.
Best Thai in the city.
This is our favorite Thai restaurant right now. The food tastes fresher and is better prepared than almost any other place we have tried. We haven't hit all the top places in Chicago (been to Spoon Thai and Opart before they moved, which are both very good), but this is the best we have tried. Service is great, very polite and prompt. Don't let the plain interior fool you. This is great food.
Loads of thai food around the area hands down one of the most authentic thai food in chicago ,at the moment only delivery and pick up hopefully they open dine in back up soon
By far, Rainbow is our favorite Thai spot in Illinois and there is nothing more magical/delicious than their crispy pad see ew. Love the ground chicken basil, pad kee mao, and mini egg rolls too!
What a shame you couldn't put your present status on Google so that we didn't come all the way across town to find out you're open for pick up and delivery only.
Great Thai restaurant! They have the best Thai dishes I have tried in Chicago. Staff is very kind and would definitely go again.
There are lots of good Thai spots in Chicago, but this place is my favorite. Be sure to order the crispy crepe!
Authentic Thai couple owners. Husband's name is Pramote. Great soups, salads & pork entrees. 🥰 Love Tom Kha soup & pad thai !
Exceptional Thai food. I'm convinced their peanut sauce is the best I've ever had. And they're really nice, too.
So good!
Authentic and delicious!
Great cooking, great people, delicious food. Please support Rainbow Thai.
Placed my very first order at 6:12pm for delivery, it is now 8:02pm still waiting.
Called in at 7:45pm and asked what was the hold up, the gentlemen kept asking me if I was Jimmy. I clearly stated no multiple times until I told him he should be asking me for my name first so we can track my order correctly.... once that was done they stated it was almost ready...... mind you I ordered 1 curry fired rice and 2 slices of cheesecake. How long should that take?
Gentleman did not apologize once, he did explain they could cancel my order or wait. I know they are not busy with dine-in due to stay at home order. Needless to say this will be my first and last order.
Waited over 90 minutes in store for an online order. That was after giving it the 25 minutes they told me it would take. Don't waste your time. Look elsewhere.
Best Thai restaurant I’ve ever been. Our favorite restaurant. We eat here once a week.
We really liked this place. We had the shrimp pad Thai and sticky rice. They got the order right and the delivery was fast. The only reason we took off one star is because it’s a little pricey for the amount you get. But a really good experience nonetheless
My favorite thai restaurant! Authentic. Decent priced.
Love their authentic that dishes. They are the real deal.
Food is always delicious
Have been going to Rainbow Thai since it was a hole in the wall take out joint with 2 tables to eat in. The quality and the taste of the food has stayed the same. My favs are Thai fried chicken, crispy rice salad and the crispy pork.
Great BYOB Thai place with quick service and good food
Good Thai food.
The food here is pretty damn good, especially the Thai chicken appetizer. The issue is that they don't give you enough sauce for this dish. I asked for extra sauce of course (knowing that this is a problem) and received what's in the image below. It's like somebody is messing with me....it's a joke right? How is this enough sauce for 6 pieces of chicken??? You couldn't even fill one tiny plastic cup??? Get it together, c'mon!
We love this place. I'm thai and I alway come here
Always have a great meal here. Best Prik Khing curry in Chicago (on Sole Fish). Always present owners who care about making your experience great. Heat levels adjusted on request. Love the BYOB option. Don't miss the Gai Tod and Tod Mun.
This is our go-to place for authentic Thai food. My wife and I have tried a lot of Thai restaurants and this one, by far, is the best in Chicago.
Some of our favorite from the menu are fried chicken, crispy rice salad, basic chicken, and Sole Fish (Pad Ped Pla).
The best.
One of my favorite thai restaurants here in the city. This place has great crab ragoons and great pad thai! The owner here, is so nice and is always a delight to see!
La Seafood glueless help no need to go there are so many better options around here
Don't remember
Great catfish
Amazing Thai food, original Thai food hard to find out, they're doing all of Thai salad,Thai curry, papaya salad, pretty well and very testy, here is real Five stars Thai food, thank you again, will come back soon.
Awesome Staff, Thai food is great. Ask, if you like spicy food, for extra flames.
Great flavor & priced accordingly
Loved the service, they are very friendly! Although, the foods expensive for the amount you get.
Love this little hole-in-the-wall place. It's funny they uploaded LTH's translation of their Thai menu (misspellings and all) to their regular menu so now anyone could order. My favorite: monk fish soup. Really need to take a pic of that soup and upload it. Sour and warm, great for cold day or sore throat when season changes.
Best Thai in Lincoln Square by far! Check out this hidden gem soon!
Will surely visit again.
The service isn't so bad the food is really good and the food is served pretty fast.
stopped by for take out and they were very friendly and quick and the curry was amazing! there's a $12 credit card minimum.
The food is delicious! Its a nice place to get a quick bite to eat!
Consistently the best carryout Thai in Chicago. This place is so good, get the crispy rice salad, trust me.
Wait is longer then expected
Absolutely amazing Thai cuisine. The space is not terribly warm or comfortable and the service can be spotty, but that's not why you go to this place. You go for the Issan sausage and the crispy rice salad and plenty of other terrific dishes that will transport you to another land.
Food is really bad. Worst service ever.
One of the best Thai restaurants, and my favorite. Their Pad Prik King with Shrimp is amazing. I would put that curry sauce on everything I eat if I could. Worth a trip.
Food poisoning
Most consistently excellent Thai food in Chicago - chef's quality control is amazing, even when they're packed.
Very good food and you can also make it spicy if you want. They have good spicy sauce. Nice and friendly spot environment
Quiet and peaceful. Good food and a very polite and attentive waiter. Definitely a place I'd come back to.
Does Western Ave really need another Thai restaurant?
If it's as good as Rainbow...yes!
Clean bright flavors and spices.
Friendly attentive staff. Nice seating area. Easy parking. I'll be back....soon!
Out of the world Naem Kao Tod... I get it every time!
Thai Rainbow is the best Thai food I've had anywhere. I love the food. I love the menu. They've made room for more dining in. The wait staff is incredibly friendly. They also do takeout and delivery witches really fast and convenient.
Been here a couple of times. The crispy fried rice and spicy basil dishes are excellent. The service...not so much. Both times I've been, it wasn't busy and yet the staff were nowhere to be found. It takes way too long to get refills or a drink, period. And then the food takes a long time also. My advice is to get take-out only from here.
Great food, quick delivery and nice staff.
The service was super friendly, the food so-so.
Great food, nice atmosphere, good prices.
Everything off the authentic Thai menu is fantastic. In a neighborhood with an abundance of top tier Thai options, this is a stand out.
Best authentic Thai in town. Famous for their naem keo Tod
Do not order delivery. It will never come and staff is incredibly rude. If you do not want people to order from grub hub or other delivery services, do not sign up. I wish that were the case, then I never would have heard of Rainbow and would not have waited 2 hours for food that's 10 minutes away and told that my food had been "out for delivery" for 45 min. Why would I still want it at that point?
Terrible food and customer service. Hard pass.
What a nice find!!! No frill type of place but the food is outstanding. The deep fried chicken is so tasty. Pad Thai is delicious. Highly recommend this gem!!
Ordered from here twice now and both times took about 2 hours, which might be acceptable if we lived 90 minutes away. However, since we live 8 minutes away and are ordering noodles, this is ridiculous. Gave it a second chance thinking it was a fluke, but no good deed goes unpunished. Will NEVER order from here again.
Very good Thai food! Love this place, it is definitely my go to Thai place. In an area with this many Thai restaurants it is hard to choose one but this is my favorite. Itty bitty but still they pack a punch with awesome food. The red curry with duck is a personal favorite and the crab ragoon is a must try.
They are the nicest people. The wife is the cook and she is great.Love the rice salad. Never had anything like it in any thai restaurant. Don't expect fancy seating for only a dozen.
I love this hole-in-the-wall! Don't come and expect too much in terms of decor or service, but do expect a lot in terms of flavors, especially if you love spicy food like I do! The word on the street is that this place is the bona fide thai cuisine, but I just know it's REALLY good. Go visit this mom and pop place (the chef was also our server) , but bring your patience and appetite.
