I really enjoyed the generous and reasonably-priced lunch menu, with several appetizers and mains to choose from, plus a hearty and flavorful soup.

Diner Review №5

The yellow curry chicken is phenomenal. And the staff goes above and beyond. Only critique is the restaurant is a bit stuffy.

Diner Review №6

Nothing special, staff not friendly at me at all

Diner Review №7

The spicy basil curry had the best balance of heat without overwhelming the flavor, and the portion was just right. It was really loud, but I can't exactly blame them for some unruly clientele or being busy. It's a great alternative from Herb if you want tasty food without breaking the bank.

Diner Review №11

decent, but $24 ($20 + ~20% tip) for 2 rolls and a drink is actually insane :(

Diner Review №12

I went several times and order take out from there from time to time.
I really like their food but I felt the staff (especially the owner) was extremely cold with my husband and I and/or other people I went to this restaurant with.
He was very nice to some customers and very cold/unfriendly to others. Is his attitude based on people’s appearance?
Went several times to give him the benefit of the doubt but encounter the same behaviour each time and feel very disrespected.
Other staff have always been professional and polite.

Diner Review №13

Every bit was delicious!

Diner Review №14

Tried this place for the first time for dinner. I feel the portions are small and the food is mediocre. Ordered potstickers and pad thai -- both were rather bland/lacked flavor. Also ordered green curry which was only slightly better. Very friendly staff and service was good -- the owner even came out and helped with service and chatted with customers.

Diner Review №15

Me and my girlfriend came here craving authentic Thai food and we were so glad we came to the perfect restaurant!! They have a decent menu to choose from and the food was decent priced for its portion. We order moo ping which is my all time favorite appetizer and they make it super good with their home made sauce w a side of cucumber and tomato; papaya salad which we got spicy and it was super spicy Cai they put chopped up to si chili peppers (in big piece) and I ate a tons of it thinking it was string beans but it was DELICIOUS! For mains we got pannang curry and sauce was delicious but the chicken was a bit dry. The pad see eew was delicious! Wish we got more meat in it but because of how flavorful the dish was, I didn’t care at the time. Wish I had the room to try mango sticky rice cause it’s in season… Over all the food was 8.5/10 definitely recommend if you’re in the area for some hearty delicious Thai food!! The service was fast and good. The restaurant was clean and quiet.

Diner Review №16

This is a really good place to find anime pieces I got my Goku here for a good price and they are very friendly and patient I’m definitely coming here for more figures

Diner Review №17

My go to for Thai takeout. Great range of spicy options and mild options

Diner Review №18

Great experience! Food was amazing along with the service! Highly recommend this restaurant!

Eat on!

Diner Review №19

This is a hidden gem in the community. It is one of the best and most authentic Thai restaurants in the city of Chicago. A wonderful atmosphere and phenomenal service. You must try the homemade crab rangoon, absolutely delicious. I will keep coming here and preach it to my friends.

Diner Review №20

We moved nearby 7 years ago and have been eating in and taking out from Jim for all that time. We took out tonight and the food was delicious but we thought we should make a point to review the restaurant. It is terrific cooking, friendly owners and staff and reasonably priced. Very highly recommended.

Diner Review №21

Love this place for Thai food
Great tasting food , quick and friendly staff.
I have though on two occasions now ordered Pad Woon Sen, only to get home and find out I have Pad See Ew.
If there’s a misunderstanding over the phone then please pull someone else over to clear it up.

Diner Review №22

Lots of good Thai places in the area. This one stands out for its emphasis on light and fresh ingredients.

Diner Review №23

I found this place on Google with great reviews and decided to give it a try. When you walk in, it’s dim, small and cozy. Very skeptical at first but after my first bite, I was like omg! This is so good!! All the dishes have amazing flavor but my favorite was the Kee Mow. It literally wowed me immediately! Must try that dish and this place!

Diner Review №24

Amazing place to eat Best authentic Thai food

Diner Review №25

The best Thai restaurant in Edgewater. (Fight me.) I've been to all of them. The owners are very friendly and the food is delicious. Their prices are a buck or two higher than others but the quality is fantastic. Vegetarian-friendly. I was a regular at another Thai restaurant (very) nearby but the owner is rude. I go to Jin Thai every two weeks for their noodle dishes. A+

Diner Review №26

First time last night. EXCELLENT! The staff was friendly with great service. Ingredients were high-quality. Every dish (and the soup) was delicious! Friendly owner came by to chat. A comfortable BYOB atmosphere that included families, couples, and friends. Their strong neighborhood take-out business shows the locals love it too!

Diner Review №27

Love the affordable weekday lunch special and BYOB!

Diner Review №28

Diner Review №29

The food was really good but I got an allergic reaction to the food because I'm guessing the cross contamination prevention is not great. I'm allergic to pork even in small amounts. I ordered crab fried rice with shrimp, so I didn't think I had to say anything. But overall nice service. They only take Visa tho.

Diner Review №30

Diner Review №31

Diner Review №32

This place is fantastic for a date night! I highly recommend their spicy eggplant, any of their curries and their crab rangoon. Love that it's BYOB too!

Diner Review №33

This was the best Thai food that I have ever had and very friendly service. I can’t wait to be back in Chicago so that I can eat there again!

Diner Review №34

Lovely curry, cozy dining area, friendly staff, conveniently close to the red line, what's not to like!

Diner Review №35

Diner Review №36

Diner Review №37

One of my favorite restaurants in Chicago! The chicken satay and Panang curry are to die for. My boyfriend has celiac and we’ve eaten here probably 50+ times and he’s never been glutened. So nice that he can eat delicious food and feel safe.

Diner Review №38

Love the food...so fresh. The Vietnamese roll appetizer is a must have!

Diner Review №39

Great Staff relaxing atmosphere and terrific food!

Diner Review №40

I hate to write this review, but I must...

Let me start by stating that service was excellent, however, the food was horrendous.

The food was absolutely flavorless. I must note, I didn't have anything special, I simply had the beef fried rice.

I literally had to stop eating it about five bites in. I paid the bill and went to another restaurant in the area.

Very disappointed.

Diner Review №41

Looking forward to some green coconut curry with the green beans, thai basil. It can be an exquisite combination but this dish fell far short at Jin Thai. There was no appeal in the green curry/coconut sause. And a funk to the taste (was it the chicken?) Watery sause. I can make better at home in a second. Also, they forgot to include the jasmine rice! Who forgets the rice? I had to cook rice at home. Oh well.

Diner Review №42

Delicious food. Friendly service.

Diner Review №43

The good was very tasty, service with a smile and timely. I will be back and have already recommended this fine place to a friend 😊

Diner Review №44

One of the best Thai style noodle in the Chicago uptown!
My go to spot in this area!

Diner Review №45

Cute intimate BYOB place, delicious food and quick service. Not a bad dish on the menu, the boat noodle soup and pad thai are our faves. Bring some wine and share your plates with your dinner date. (;

Diner Review №46

Diner Review №47

The basil fried rice is SO good

Diner Review №48

This place was phenomenal! We were just walking by in the neighborhood and decided to stop in for a meal. The Pad Thai was absolutely incredible, as were the appetizers we tried. Would highly recommend, and this will be our go-to Thai place on the north side.

Diner Review №49

Diner Review №50

Best street-style Thai food I’ve had outside of Thailand. I love this place! Try the spicy basil 🙂

Diner Review №51

Delicious pad Thai! Glad they have the fresh rolls too.

Diner Review №52

Diner Review №53

Best thai food in the area at the price point; personally though, I think they should increase their prices in this inflationary environment. It is run by a friendly family (Jin and Chi) who recognize their customers and serve delicious meal consistently.

Diner Review №54

The best Thai food in Chicago! I only wish I lived closer!

Diner Review №55

Always love their food!

Diner Review №56

I got the spicy Basil with chicken. Food came out quick and fast.

Fire.

Would do it again.

Diner Review №57

Big portions of their lunch menu. Entree plus appetizer.

Diner Review №58

Lovely little restaurant. It was a little stuffy on a humid Sunday, but the door was open and there was a decent breeze if you sat near it.

Quick service, and it wasn’t busy for a Sunday afternoon.

I got pad see ewe with tofu and it was yummy, but it was a very mild sweet flavor. There was no spice or “zing” whatsoever. I think adding onions could’ve even helped. With that said, I won’t order that one again but will still go to this restaurant. That dish would be a good noodle option for kids.

They don’t take Amex or Discover, so be prepared with payment options.

Diner Review №59

Diner Review №60

Conscientious staff! Well done!Nice & quiet so I could hear!🤸🤾‍♀️Plenty of dinner remaining for left overs(I ordered drunken noodle w/ chix & tofu🌞) for each of us! VEGGIE egg rolls are WOW! They took our photos for my 72nd b-day! Thanks!

Diner Review №61

I was craving Thai food, so I tried this restaurant out and don’t regret anything about it.

After reviewing the menu I went with the edamame and Cashew Chicken and really enjoyed both. I was about to order everything online for pickup, and they made it super simple. The food was hot and tasty when I picked up. I’ll definitely be back for more soon.

Diner Review №62

So the food here is pretty good. Although portions weren’t great and staff was rather rude. The worst part for me was that we were charged 20% gratuity by the restaurant without having any option. Has anyone ever heard of a forced/mandatory gratuity, of course I was going to leave a tip but not after they already charged me 20% on top without the option.

Diner Review №63

This is a staple of the Edgewater neighborhood and for good reason! Everything dish on the menu is hand crafted and thoughtful with excellent flavor profiles. Chai (sp?) and Jin are wonderful hosts and made sure we had a fantastic experience.

Diner Review №64

Diner Review №65

Soooo gooood…. you’re not going to regret your choice coming here!

Diner Review №66

Neighborhood staple.👍

Diner Review №67

Good food and byob! I recommend the Panang Curry

Diner Review №68

I have been to Thailand and have eaten at more than 15 different Thai restaurants in Chicago and the quality just has not been satisfactory.

This is the only restaurant in the chicagoland and suburbs that delivers an homage to true thai cuisine. The chicken satay is fresh and juicy. The larb is fresh with just a hint of fish sauce so that it is not overpowering but complements the flavors. They also add the crispy bits of rice to give it a crunch. Not one restaurant I have been to goes for that extra touch. The panang curry with veggies and tofu was rich but not too creamy/fatty with too much coconut milk.

Wow!!

Diner Review №70

Diner Review №71

Walked over for takeout, it was fast and delicious

Diner Review №72

The best yellow curry with sweet potatoes ever!! I also love the chicken satay. And curry shrimp with pineapple.

Diner Review №73

Diner Review №74

I've only done carry out, but the quality of food is excellent and the staff is friendly.

Diner Review №75

Diner Review №79

Diner Review №80

It's definitely in my top 5. Love the Cashew Chicken.

Diner Review №81

Neighborhood gem. Good service, delicious food, attractive dining room.

Diner Review №82

Excellent food, decent prices, friendly service. Room is fairly small but carry out and delivery are available. Highly recommend!

Diner Review №83

Best noodle in Chicago.

Diner Review №84

Diner Review №85

In town for a couple days and someone recommended us to try this place. Boat noodle, papaya salad and grilled pork were delightful and very authentic. Will definitely come back

Diner Review №86

Loved it. Friendly owner. Nice neighborhood eatery.

Diner Review №87

Such delicious food! The Thai Iced Tea is amazing, and if you like a hint of spice try the Yellow Curry.

Diner Review №88

Just bought ginger chicken from there
(carry out). Food was delicious, but they
could supply more rice with the meal.

Diner Review №89

The taste is great, but this restaurant uses bottled sauces such as fish sauce and oyster sauce that contain major chemical preservatives that induces 18+ hour head pressure headaches in me. They should make it from scratch to arrive at these flavors and not rely on bottled sauces that have tons of chemical preservatives.

Diner Review №90

Crab fried rice was wet, which was unacceptable. Any decent Asian restaurant would know that WET fried rice is a big no. This basically proves that the overall quality of this place is bad.

Diner Review №91

The best thai food I have had in a while.

Diner Review №92

Diner Review №93

Amazing food here. One of the best places in the neighborhood. Great for carry-out; better for dine-in. It's the sort of place you can feel confident about taking your parents or out-of-town guest for a friendly, local gem.

Diner Review №94

Hands down THE best Thai food I've ever had. I'm actually mad at myself for not having tried it out sooner

Diner Review №95

Not their best effort but everyone has an off day. The company was good & that’s what really matters

Diner Review №96

Diner Review №97

Nice friendly staff that's the only reason I gave 3 stars.I got the Tom Yum soup to go.I paid $11 dollar and it only had 4 shrimp in the soup.I won't be going back.

Diner Review №98

Diner Review №99

This is one of my favorite Thai places. The food is always fresh and full of tastes. The crispy lime chicken appetizer is one of my favorite. Burst of flavors and crunch! Family owned and made with love.

Diner Review №100

Love this place. Quiet and comfortable. A go-to place for excellent good

Diner Review №101

Panang Curry!

Diner Review №102

Very bland. And egg rolls were very greasy. Would recommend. Food was burnt. Wouldn’t recommend

Diner Review №103

Diner Review №104

Diner Review №105

We loved Jin Thai! We found ourselves walking down Broadway and just let Google tell us where to go. The Chive Crepes were delicious and crispy. Best Satay I’ve had in a long time! And ugh the Fried Rice! I love Thai fried rice and theirs did not disappoint!! Very friendly staff, cute little corner spot. Definitely give it a try!!

Diner Review №106

Get the grilled pork skewers and boat noodles with beef!!

Diner Review №107

Diner Review №108

Love this place! I have been going to Jin Thai since the day they opened - many years ago. It has become a neighborhood gem. Food is delicious. Always enjoy chatting with the owner - a very pleasant guy. Hope this place is around for many years to come...

Diner Review №109

First trip to Jin Thai, I've been eating in Thai restaurants in and around Chicago as well as all over the world for decades, since the very first restaurant opened in Chicago. I lived in Thailand for two years between 1969-1971. I loved this place, I only had Boating Noodle soup, the beef soup. It was the best I've had anywhere. Clean cute restaurant, staff was very friendly, owner arrived while I was there also very friendly. Food and service was great, I'll return here for sure. What I had was very authentic.

Diner Review №110

Coming from a southeast Asian, this place is pretty good!!

Diner Review №117

Food taste good!! I like the Pad See Ewe!

Diner Review №118

My new favorite Thai restaurant! The pad see ewe was amazing and the egg roll was the perfect crisp. I definitely would come back multiple times. It's smaller on the inside but has big flavor. I can't wait to come back again!

Diner Review №120

Diner Review №121

Diner Review №122

Great owner. Cozy space. And really great food. Red snapper was perfect!!
Would recommend this place for everyone!

Diner Review №123

Small Thai restaurant on Broadway, I really enjoyed the experience here. Very casual, but delicious food and large portions.

Diner Review №124

I miss this great restaurant; it used to be in my neighborhood. Established by a nice Thai couple. The food is so fresh, well seasoned and cooked with care. It is my favorite Thai place by far. Small and intimate setting.

Diner Review №125

This is has been our go to Thai place for years. Always delicious.

Diner Review №126

Best yellow curry with chicken and they put sweet potatoes in there which is very traditional Thai and how it should be it's amazing

Diner Review №127

The food is terrible. I ordered crab fried rice and some chicken but food was horrible. I threw food in garbage. My daughter tasted the food and started throwing up. Worst Thai food place ever. Customer service is good, food well packaged but taste is zero

Diner Review №128

This Chicago treasure continues to surprise and delight-- even packaged in to-go containers. Just picked wild basil, spring-fresh bean sprouts and a heavenly French-influenced Vietnamese crepe. Crisp green pickled cucumber and carrots. A dream.

Diner Review №129

So, I ordered their Basil Fried Rice and unfortunately it was a disappointment. No taste of basil at all, and the meat (beef) was not good because it did not taste fresh. The service was okay when I picked up my order. I love Basil Fried Rice and I order it any time I decide to go to a Thai restaurant. I really wanted it to taste good, but that was not the case. :(

Diner Review №135

Diner Review №136

My favorite Thai restaurant in the city. I love beef boat noodle and Nam sod(appetizer). Both are my top choices. Highly recommend

Diner Review №137

Diner Review №138

We wandered in here one afternoon and were very pleasantly surprised! The food is affordable, comes out quickly, and is delicious. One of my favorite Tom Yum soups in the city. My friend says the Wonton Soup was also great. We both had chicken Pad Thai and scarfed it down like wolves. I would love to come back and try their other options next time I'm in Edgewater! This place is a gem!

Diner Review №139

Really strong, authentic Thai food. Best option in Edgewater. Very friendly. Cozy interior, maybe 30 seats. Not expensive, though it can get expensive if you want it to. A fun special occasion place (took my partner there for a birthday.) The Tom Kha is properly not overly sweet. The Spicy Basil is amazing. However, they do under-spice for American palates, so you'll need to be very deliberate in ordering the hotness level you want. (If you're a regular Thai-food fan, you know what I mean.)

They're also one of those places with a menu entirely in English, which is annoying if you're used to ordering Thai food with the actual transliterated names, as in most Thai restaurants. They don't even bother with the transliteration, and some of the descriptions aren't enough to figure out what the selections actually are. So be prepared for a potential conversation with your server to determine what is actually what on the menu.

(They also serve all the usual non-Thai options that Americans always expect in Thai restaurants, like Crab Rangoon and Wonton Soup. I can't report on these because I wouldn't order them here or in any other Thai eatery.)

But those are minor annoyances. They know what they're doing in the kitchen and it's definitely worth a trip across the neighborhood to enjoy it.

Diner Review №140

I am a fan of Thai food. I have been to Thailand. This place is the best Thai food I have had anywhere in the world. In addition the owner and his wife are the host and chef and care deeply about the experience of every customer. Everything my vegetarian girlfriend and I ordered was absolutely delicious. In particular the peanut sauce is amazing. This place is a must try.
