Cheery, informal eatery for traditional Thai dishes plus noodles, rice, curries & Asian beer.
I’m so glad we stopped in here for dinner! The family that owns the restaurant clearly love preparing great food and making their customers feel welcomed. The service was quick and friendly. We loved the yellow curry and pad Thai but I feel like you can’t go wrong with any options! Prices seemed compatible with other Thai/Asian restaurants. The space is extremely clean and well taken care of. It is clear this restaurant means a lot to the owners.
The location of the place is great, the restaurant is small though. It is a family owned restaurant run by an amazing couple that we got a chance to meet.
The best about this restaurant is the owners, you’re sure to have a good time.
The food was good.. worth the money and authentic thai food.
We ate.. egg rolls, red curry, garden vegetables tofu, drunken noodles & garlic and pepper chicken..
The best was egg rolls & drunken noodles!
Delicious, everything was absolutely delicious.
I got green curry with tofu and pad see ew with chicken. The curry was incredibly flavorful. Pad see ew was saucier than I am used to and it was the best I've ever had. Each dish came with a tasty clear soup of noodles and bean sprouts, and a fried vegetable spring roll. I wish I ordered more of the rolls because the filling was so good.
The lady taking our order was really nice, great service!
I am vegan and I love Thai food but wasn’t too impressed with taste of the dishes.
My partner and I ordered COCONUT SOUP with vegetables, PANANG CURRY and MUSAMAN CURRY, RAD-NAR NOODLES. I asked for everything to be moderate spicy.
I didn’t like coconut soup as much as usually from other Thai places. Also, the PANANG curry and noodles were super spicy, definitely more than moderate to my taste. Also, the noodle portion was relatively small with not much noodles on the plate, mostly veggies.
On the upside, the servant lady was great, polite and accommodating.
I wouldn’t come back to this place, but it definitely not the worse I visited.
We went late night on a Friday night 45mins before closing, my bf was a little hesitant because it was literally EMPTY with just us ! But man was the food BOMB 💣 😩!!!!! He had. VEGAN veggie STIR FRY & I had Pad Thai crab ragoons (REAL CRAB) & steamed dumplings and it was the FLAVOR of LOVE ❤️ for me! Not a big Chain style restaurant the owner served us and was extremely friendly, and tentative. Thanks for the beautiful date night experience 😘 & left overs tasted just as good 😁
I was visiting my friends in Sarasota and they took me here for lunch so I could get some Asian flavors. Small restaurant. The atmosphere is somewhat cozy. We ordered a few dishes like soft shell crabs, duck salad was excellent, the meat was not dry and the crunchiness of the skin made it good. We all so got seafood pad Thai and was very flavorful. And some shushi. Definitely recommending to come try and see for your self. They close?afound 3-4
I loved the service the women telling us stories, asking us questions about where we are from, how our day was, and she kept giving us more water!😇😆 The Pad Thai was a bit salty but still delicious 😋
Love this place and the owner is so nice! They are able to prepare plant based dishes. Very fresh!
Delicious food! Welcoming place!

I ordered the Volcano shrimp dish. It does not disappoint. The owners are very nice ppl too.
The Owner is so sweet! I love talking w her when I visit. It is amazing how long this restaurant has been on Main Street making outstanding Thai food in a warm and cozy atmosphere.
Delicious, everything was absolutely delicious.

Great food at great prices from really good people. Cozy small interior that is smaller than their previous location - but still amazing. Massaman chicken curry and crab Rangoon. Yummmmmmmmy.
Delicious meals and affordable. Items ranged from ~$4 to $13
Tropical Thai has the best food, service, and atmosphere!!!
This place is AWESOME!!!! good food and the lady is so sweet!! love this place its so wholesome!!!🫶
Best restaurant in Sarasota hands down. Owner is so sweet. If we come back to Sarasota this will be where we go.
“Best Spring Rolls EVER!” That’s what my 8 year old says :) Friendly fast service, good is fresh and delicious. Reasonable Prices. We’ve been here before and we’ll be back!
Nice Thai restaurant. Small and dark. Food was good, service was okay.
This is the best Thai place on Main Street! Pona and her husband work so hard to bring the tastiest, freshest and prettiest food to your table. Their portions are perfect, the service is impeccable and the inside has some amazing decor. I promise you won’t be disappointed. My finance and I stayed in Sarasota for a week and we ate here twice!
This is a wonderful restaurant totally run by a husband (chef) and wife (server).
All the food is so delicious and fresh.
Stopped in for lunch and the specials include soup and egg roll at a very affordable price.
Authentic and quaint, and the best Thai food in town! The Tom yum and Tom kha soup and curries are my favorite. We got to talk with out server and found out this restaurant has been in business in 2 locations for decades here in town very cool!
Perfect, fresh, hot (temp) food. Will be back again!
The beef was hard and smelly.
amazing food and service ! Pad Thai is great as usual!
The location of the place is great, the restaurant is small though. It is a family owned restaurant run by an amazing couple that we got a chance to meet.
The best about this restaurant is the owners, you’re sure to have a good time.
The food was good.. worth the money and authentic thai food.

Very delicious restaurant. I had ginger tofu and jasmine tea. Absolutely delicious. Service is perfect.
The prices on line DO NOT reflect the price in the restaurant. My husband and I just went to check it out and we ordered 1 sampler to share and an iced tea and a diet coke. To our surprise our bill was $32.00. We were disappointed and felt lied to. We are retired and live on a fixed income but enjoy going out and trying different things. We will not be going back to Tropical Thai again!
Couldn’t even take a bite of my cashew nut chicken tasted as if the chicken been boiled since last year . Also food was out in 5minutes
red flag 🚩
Incredible and authentic Thai food!! The owner was so welcoming and wonderful to speak to.
The garlic pepper chicken was delicious as well as the Pad Thai. Will definitely be coming back.
we come here every time we’re in town. the food is DELICIOUS and it’s such a reliable little spot that’s been around for years. can’t go wrong!
We've had a tough time finding good Asian food since moving from Tampa, but this place is absolutely a keeper. My wife has been craving pad Thai since the last unsuccessful attempt and Tropical Thai did not disappoint. The pad Thai was absolutely delicious, perfectly cooked, amazing flavor.
I had the fancy duck which was also excellent. The duck was moist while the skin was crispy and everything was very flavorful.
The owner was very personable and attentive and we didn't wait for anything. It's no wonder this place has been in business 27+ years!
If you want really good, authentic Thai food go to Tropical Thai!
We had Vegetable Panang Curry and Vegetable Fried Rice (with Egg). The two dishes were delicious. Will definitely consider again when back in town.
Owner was nice and talked to us since we were one of the last customers of the evening.
Great food
Amazing food, great atmosphere, friendly owner. It's a bit of a hole in the wall but i still can't believe it's not more popular
Food is excellent. Locally owned and has been here for several years. The owner came a talked to our party of 6 and was delightful.
Everything we ordered, we devoured every bite!! We will be back!!
Love this place. I’ve been coming here for years. The owner is really nice! I love supporting them when we get Thai food.
Fantastic! Great food and excellent customer service.
Family run great quality! If you love curry dishes you will love it here!
This quaint little place is absolutely amazing! The food was absolutely incredible and the owner was so sweet and attentive! My son said it was the best fried rice, hubby loved his Pad Thai and I was thrilled that my favorite dish Pad Woonsen was so delicious! Will absolutely be returning and wish we had tried it sooner!
Portions are embarrassingly small. Flavor is lacking and todays lunch is last nights leftovers. I’m one and done with this place.
Plus all the prices are higher then the menu. I read a review from 8 months ago and another person had the same complaint. This is a scam for sure. This is the kind of place that counts each peanut they put in the curry.
Was recommended by my Airbnb host and hence tried. Ordered yellow curry and rice (vegan). Food was good. Served quick. Service requests were attended quick. Place was clean and nice, but not extravagant or modern though. Portion size was on the smaller side, especially given the price. I ordered extra cup of rice. I was very hungry and ate it all. Before tip, the check was $20.50 (slightly on the higher side).
Absolutely wonderful! The flavor was amazing and I am not a big spicy eater. It was perfect. I have only had Thai this good in New York and Asheville. Definitely will be back, probably tomorrow!!!
Went in for Thai food, left with nostalgia and a desire to order 3 more plates of pad Thai. I grew up in Thailand, spending 17 years of my adolescent life there, so believe me when I say this pad Thai was *authentic*. Served by an adorable old Thai lady who is happy to tell you how her kids are doing, the pad Thai here was phenomenal. I got the sea food option but I would go for any protein really. Whole-in-the-wall sort of place without and fancy stuff; but that’s when you knows the food will be good 😉
Hope this review gets you there and fulfills your dreams. Also had ice cream after to finish off the evening 👍🏾
I went to this restaurant by mistake but I really didn't like it I ordered a pad thai and it tastes like old coconut oil and that made me have a lot of stomach aches
I called over the phone and within minutes it was ready, really good and tasty. I will recommend it!
Tropical Thai is a mainstay of Main St. They used to be across the street years ago but took over this larger location - from an upstart who chose to open another Thai restaurant - and just kept on cranking out great, well-priced food.
The nicest people work here, almost overly polite.
There isn't a bad thing on the menu and it's served hot and quickly. And there is plenty of it.
And it's so quiet inside, especially nice when you want a break from the noise of the office. Relaxing in a way few meals are anymore.
If you aren't working nearby or otherwise within walking distance, you'll experience my only complaint about the shops & restaurants on Main St.: paying for parking. Used to be free, used to be easy. Not anymore.
Good thai. Excellent price.
I love this place! It was my first time eating here, and my daughter and I loved it! The food was fresh and amazing, they served it up quickly. The waitress made sure she brought out the dishes as we were finishing our appetizers, with impeccable timing. Also I was amazed at the prices considering we were on main street in Sarasota! All around I really live this place and I wish I lived closer because I would come here often. I recommend that anyone in the area give this place a try.
The place is a nice and quiet family run restaurant. Everything is 2$ more than what it shows on the menu.
Had a hot busy day exploring Sarasota. We wefe super hungry and decided to eat here based on reviews. Let me just tell youuu!! The food here was amazing. This mom and pops restaurant really excels at their dishes. Price is reasonable in this inflation, and the waitress was the owner, so you know she was top notch. I had the spicy wide noodles, and my girlfriend had the wide noodles with brown sauce. Just thinking about the dishes again makes me hungry. 10/10 will visit again.
Very great and authentic food ! Amazing service !
I LOVE this place. The owners are delightful people who are so lovely to see return customers.
The lunch menu is a definite deal, with an egg roll and bowl of soup added onto the usual entree!
Everything I’ve gotten here has been delicious. My go-to is the pad kee mao with beef and, when I’m craving something delicious and sweet, a thai tea. To all lovers of spice: you will adore this restaurant!
When we walked in she told us it would be an extra 2$ , I assume because I'm a tourist lol. Food was really good though so I'd definitely recommend.
Consistently good if not great. Lots of fried appetizers.
Avocado rolls were fantastic here!!!! We just stopped through while in town. Really nice people.
I would not recommend this place. The food was acceptable but the place really needs a good deep cleaning. As soon you come in there is this strong old smell. I would recommend they close for a few days and give the place a fresh start
I have been here in the past, but not for a long time. Recently, I went in with a friend, and I ordered some thing that I frequently order elsewhere,
Probably spelling it wrong
Pod say yew
And I will say, it was the juiciest, and the tastiest one I've had yet. I had it with chicken. I keep making excuses to go back and I will as soon as my refrigerator gets a little empty lol. It's owned by a family I believe and check ahead to make sure they're open. It's very cute and it's on Main Street.
We visited this restaurant as tourists in November 22. The food was OK, but nothing authentic. When the bill came, we realized that the prices were higher than on the menu and when we asked the reason, the reply was that all prices had gone up, but they haven't had time to change the menu yet. When we asked why we were not informed while placing the order, there was no reaction or no apologies from their side. I do not know if they do this to tourists only or to everyone... We do not recommend the restaurant.

I wouldn’t come back to this place, but it definitely not the worse I visited.
This place surprised me! I walked in and the restaurant looks a bit dated and run down. However the food is amazing and priced way better then the surrounding competition. Do not let your eyes fool you. This is a gem in downtown.
The food is really really good, the beer is surprisingly cheap if you get a domestic, and the lady is very pleasant and sociable. Apparently it is very authentic as well
We were in the area visiting and wanted to try out some thai food. Ordered the cashew nut with tofu on white rice, the chicken green curry on white rice, and coconut shrimp soup. The soup. Was excellent. The green curry was actually sweet and not spicy. Moreover the green peas and carrots tasted as if they were frozen before cooking them. The cashew nut was decent, just needed more spice.
Good food and super friendly.
Family owned for 27 years.
Highly recommend.
I love this place
Highly Recommend this place
Great little restaurant. Go here if you like to order your food spicy, they will actually oblige.
Red curry is really good. Must have if you've never tried thai, must try if you want a good thai-me.
Service good. Small portions
Food is not flavorful or exciting.
Met the owner, she and her husband have been here for so long and are so so hospitable.
The food was seasoned so well, noodles nice and soft, very reasonable pricing for such delicious food.
This is becoming a regular spot for me
It was wonderfully enticing and satisfying!!! The Pineapple Fried Rice and Thai Doughnuts was delicious! Stop in, sit down and take the journey.
Great pad Thai. Lots of flavor.
Awesome place, the food was really great and the staff were attentive and kind. My only complaint is that it's extremely quiet inside. So much so, that it feels uncomfortable to talk to the people at your table. Definitely recommend doing take out instead.
Love the small business place. Friendly owner. Food quality and superb flavors are consistent. Mussaman and crispy duck keep me coming back year over year.
Yum! We got the yellow curry, coconut noodle and wonton soup. I would order it all again. The lady who helped me was so nice too. Always a plus :)
Great tasting food, super spicy, pad Thai was super tasty, loved the chicken saytay, awesome staff. Had a wonderful time, 10/10 would come back.

Really delicious Thai food served by an older family. We had a mix of mixed Seafood Drunken Noodles, Thai Coconut Soup (Tom Kha), and Phanaeng Curry. Reasonable prices and good sized portions. The woman operating the restaurant is kind, yet funny. Recommended for those looking to venture downtown.
Great Thai food. Amazing Tom yum soup and sauteed ginger
Excellent quality
Pona, is amazing- this restaurant never fails to have extremely flavorful food. I have tried different dishes like the padseew and the yellow curry and they both were excellent!
Family run Thai restaurant. Good food, large portions wine, beer sake available.
Delicious!!
Beautiful atmosphere. Delicious food. Pona was delightful. Pineapple shrimp curry was out of this world!
Best Thai restaurant in Sarasota.
Great Value
We recently just made our way back to this longtime Sarasota legend at their newer location. The Panang Curry and Chicken Pad Thai were as fresh, authentic and delicious as we remembered. We’re so glad Tropical Thai is still downtown and hope to frequent more often.
Delicious and people are the absolute best. Definitely one of my favorite lunch spots, pad kee mao and pineapple curry are my usual orders.
5 Star Restaurant…5 Star Service! Don't leave without trying the Shrimp Pad Thai 👍🏾👍🏾
It was good with there sushi and the waiter, But they needed more soup choices and entrees. The bathroom needed to be on the outside ,instead of on the inside where they cook. They needed more waiters, hot sauce, And more people who understand English.
Absolutely amazing food and service. I can’t recommend this place enough.
Amazing thai food a must visit if you are in the area
Really good option for vegan eaters around the area that aren’t trying to spend upwards of $16 on a meal. Good curry too, super cute lil gem.
This place is open for lunch also they do a great job best Thai In Sarasota 1130-2 Monday-Friday!
The food here is excellent! Great service and inexpensive. I’ve been eating here for years. My favorites are Red Curry Chicken, Amazing Chicken and Cashew Nut Chicken. My husband loves the Red Curry Shrimp. He gets it every time. We’ve tried other Thai restaurants and we always come back to Tropical Thai. Can’t beat the flavor and the prices. The owners are really nice, too. They're open for lunch and dinner.
Tried three kinds of curry and all were delicious! Absolutely outstanding, Vegan friendly, kind and overall the food was amazing. Lady was very nice even tho we overstayed a bit past the time they closed. :) be kind and try it out!
Food was excellent and the menu caters to many diets
Very pleasant place and atmosphere. The owner was very sweet, the three stars is more because the food was up to our standard or liking. However, I recommend giving the place a try and see for yourself.
We’re visiting from VA and had to eat at this restaurant twice! The host/owner is darling, food is fresh and delicious and prices are affordable compared to the Thai restaurants across the street. We recommend the coconut soup before your entree. The Thai iced tea is also a good choice! Pls dine here: you won’t regret it.
The food was excellent i will be back soon with more friends and family. Highly recommend eating here. Thank you Pona!
Felt like we were being rushed through the entire meal. Food is mediocre.
The Food was delicious! The staff was very friendly.
Best Thai food I ever had! I wish I lived near the restaurant
Great food. Reasonably priced. Owner on site 2021 April. Still loving it here. Thank you.
Their food is authentic and consistent every time! Love this place.
In the 15 years that I have eaten at Tropical Thai I have never had an unpleasant experience. In fact, some of my most cherished memories have involved this restaurant and it’s wonderful hostess Pona. As for the food, you may find similar quality Thai in town but you will not find better.
I have been going here for 21 years. Pona is so nice and the curry is great. I love to support this Sarasota business that has been on Main Street for a long time and endured the hardships of economy changes in our town with all the new competition. 💜💜💜
My husband and me are from New Jersey which is populated with Thai restaurants and I have to say none of those restaurants are up to par with Tropical Thai. The cuisine is as authentic as it’s owners...a team of humble husband and wife. Husband is the all star chef and his wife Pona is the host. Everything we ordered was packed with herby flavors of Thailand; the food was impeccable.
We ordered, musman curry, fried rice, pad kee mow, Tom yum soup and egg spring rolls....everything single dish was prepared fresh and full of flavors!!
I didn’t even use hot sauce and i put that on everything. if you’re in Sarasota, you must go!!
The food was excellent, service friendly and the price was right!
After reading the great reviews of Tropical Thai, my wife and I decided to have dinner there. We both love Thai food...and know what good Thai food tastes like. I had the pad kee moa with chicken and my wife had pad Thai with shrimp as main courses. Both dishes were so flavorful, tasty and fresh. Try the tofu salad with peanut sauce too (yum!). The owner of the restaurant was also our server, and she was super friendly. It was an all-around great experience.
Absolutely wonderful dinner. I always post pics and we ate too fast to bother!! The owner is lovely and it's a husband wife team who've owned an authentic Thai restaurant for 25 years. Pad Thai was delicious and flavorful and indeed very authentic. The soups are also delicious and fresh. We'll be back!
Delicious food 😋
Good food, very friendly staff. Good prices.
Located on busy, commercial street. Limited parking.
GO GO GO
delicious fresh food, the green curry was well balanced with a variety of veggies
Very Cosy rests with great food and friendly service
Definitely recommend !
A gem of Thai food! Service was impecable and friendly but the food was just awesome!
We had miso soup and yom tom that was perfectly spicy, the cashew chicken was tender and delicious! Their jazmin rice was yummy!
Great little place off main. Came here and got soups, chicken fried rice and the amazing chicken (peanut sauce). Very friendly staff recommend to anyone who asks.
Great service, good prices, tastie food, clean, comfortable and amazing Thai food selection. Will go again.
Authentic Thai. Yellow curry is the absolute best. Pona and her family are great.
Amazing food! We had great service with zero wait. The owner waited on us and was an amazing lady. 100% would recommend to anyone in the area.
My family and I have been visiting this matriarchal-owned restaurant since it was in its original historic location on Main Street over 20 years ago. The owner is a lovely woman who remembers her loyal customers and takes great pride in providing authentic, delicious Thai cuisine. The art and, if you’re lucky to sit at one of the center tables with carved inlays beneath the glass, similarly reflect the beauty of Thai culture. We’ve never had a dish that disappointed us over all these years. As a vegan with food allergies, they’re always accommodating of my requests, and there’s an extensive part of the menu that’s macrobiotic for those who are interested. They serve a number of Asian beers, as well as wine, and the Thai iced tea is particularly delicious. The lunch menu features soup, salad, an entree, and a small dessert—a fantastic offering for the price. Dinners are larger with separate appetizers, but it’s worth ordering extra to have leftovers to take home. Tropical Thai is truly a Sarasota institution—one of the few restaurants where you feel at home, whether you’ve just come from the opera or the beach. Knowing that by dining there you’re supporting a woman-owned and run small business vs some big chain? Well, that’s the cream on the Thai doughnut, In my mind! Be aware that depending on your zip code, Door Dash and others may deliver to you from them and they also always take takeout orders to go. Please don’t miss out on this gem of a place if you’re visiting!
I've tried multiple Thai restaurants around and this one is hands down my favorite!! I drive an hour away to eat here and it's well worth it. The curry is amazing aswell as the noodles!! Owner is super sweet, food is AMAZING, quick service, clean restaurant, not crazy expensive and just overall a great restaurant. Highly recommend
Cannot give this place enough stars. The food is beyond amazing, as it always seems fresh and so authentic. Hands down the nicest staff ever. Every time I’m in town I’m sure to stop and eat at this restaurant and highly recommend to anybody!
Very nice owner, the food was great, enchanting decorations and music.
Excellent. If you want great Thai food in a cozy setting this place is for you.
Best Thai food in Sarasota. Hands down. Much better than Drunken Poet. Service is always friendly, food is actually spicy when requested, tons of flavor and reasonably priced. Never a disappointment!
Food was not good and it was very expensive.
What an amazing place!!! The food was amazing, my family is vegan and they had a great variety of food.
The place was clean, the owner was very friendly and was very attentive.
I definitely recommend this place to vegan and non vegans
So delicious! Great pineapple curry and pad Thai!! Highly recommend!
Dining room now open.
Take out available.
We live out of town and are SO glad we found this lovely, quaint and clean restaurant today. My husband and I had the most amazing Pad Thai. The owner is such a sweet lady. We couldn’t have asked for a nicer meal. We will definitely be back!
I had the pad thai and a spring roll and both were delicious! You could tell the products used were fresh and authentic! I've been striking out with restaurants lately but I was incredibly impressed with Tropical Thai. I called as it was almost closing time and the owner still made my order for me and waited for me to get there and still had a smile on her face! I will definitely be going back to try other things
Not bad.
Good but not like years ago across Main Street from Chef Caldwells. Bad luck to now be across from Yume. Fast service and hot and spicy curry and Tom.
Quaint place with excellent service. Everything we tried was delicious.
READ THIS! THEY WILL TRY TO RIP YOU OFF!! I have attached my bill for reference. Summary at the bottom.
I went to this restaurant with my family and our subtotal on the bill was $87.33. The tax on the bill was $15.72. I added a tip of $19.95. Please see the attached pictures for reference. I glanced at this bill at the restaurant and something didn't seem right so I had to ask for a copy of my bill. (They wouldn't have given me a copy if I hadn't asked).
When I went home and reviewed the bill, I saw that the "Subtotal" added up to more than the sum of all the individual items. As you can see in the picture, the sum of all the items is $81.60 (3.95 + 3.95 + [10.95 x 6] + 3.50 + 4.50 = 81.60). On top of this, there was a charge of $15.72 under the "Tax" section (Which is 18% of the subtotal, way too high for tax in Sarasota county).
I called the restaurant the next day and inquired about why the Subtotal was higher than it should be and why the tax was so high. The lady on the phone told me the "Subtotal" actually included the tax. I checked this and the real subtotal of $81.60 plus the 7% tax comes out to $87.31. So then I asked about charge that was under the Tax section. She said this was actually the gratuity fee and not the tax. I understand that many places have a mandatory gratuity fee if you have a large party (We were only 7 people). However, most restaurants don't try to trick people by hiding the gratuity fee as the Tax.
Basically, this restaurant had hidden the tax under the subtotal and then charged an 18% gratuity fee disguised as the "Tax". This is clearly seen on the bill where it's written in the Tax row. They are purposely ripping people off, especially because the lady would not have given me a copy of my bill; she only did after I specifically asked for it. The lady offered me my tip money back on the phone but this isn't about the $20 I lost. This restaurant is completely dishonest and I'm sure they do this with all the bills. I wonder how many people a day get scammed by these fraudulent bills. This is a completely dishonest restaurant and everyone should be aware of how they scam their customers.
Great food and service
Good food and friendly service at this cozy Main Street getaway.
8 of us went to dinner at this wonderful Traditional Thai restaurant. The owners are a delightful couple, very friendly and personable. They have been at this location for decades, as there competition has come and gone. An indication of the quality of their food. A small restraunt with a great menu selection, generous portions and reasonably priced. Whenever we are in the area, this is our go to place.
