Eatery doling out spiced-to-order Thai classics, plus sushi, in a mellow strip-mall setting.
This was hands down the best restaurant we ate at the whole time we were in Treasure Island. (Including way better than Spinners!) The sushi was so fresh and delicious; I had the Good Friend and Mexican Sunrise rolls. The massamam curry, ginger beef, and panang chicken were all equally delicious. It was nice to find a place that took pride in the quality of the food they were serving. Other places seem to be staying in business solely because of the ambiance or views and the food lacks quality. Not Thai Star....absolutely amazing! Will definitely be back the next time I visit.
Was craving some Thai food and heard from a couple of locals that this was the spot. The service was really good and quick once we got our order placed. We had the
-Beef Pad Thai “medium spice” (10/10) really flavourful and really happy about this order.
-Panang Curry “mild spice” (7/10) regretted not making it medium spice, but still tasteful and creamy.
-Volcano Roll (8/10) me and my partner opted out the cream cheese.
Overall experience was nice with food, service and setting.
Service was very friendly even though they were short staffed. Drink mug was huge! Atmosphere was small but quaint. Spinach Soup was delicious and flavorful. The Orange chicken and ginger chicken were perfect. Sushi was fresh, although I think it needed a little more flavor sauces or something… the spicy mayo wasn’t very spicy but overall pretty good. Would recommend if you’re looking for a local Thai with a cozy/ relaxed feel.
Stopped in on a whim during a recent visit to the area. Seated quickly and good came out fast! Pad Thai with tofu. 3.5 out if 5. Darker sauce than I'm used to with Pad Thai, but it was still pretty good. It was presented with a flour and some citrus rounds. Really nice touches.
Amazing. Coming into the vacation i did not want to eat from any chain restaurants and finding this gem was one of the best decisions. Had couple of appetizers, a sushi, fried rice and a thai curry which were all accompanied by a Sangria. They were short staffed but even then the service was amazing, the food arrived in good time. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a great Asian meal.
Food is incredible. Sashimi is top notch quality and all the food is fresh. Service can be hit or miss.
We had Penang Curry, edamame and the chicken satay. We also had a bottle of wine. The food was okay but there was only one server so it took a while to get our food. The chicken satay was a little overcooked and dry.
Very good homemade food and the service was good also.
This is my favorite Thai place on the beach! Always delicious food with a great dining experience!
Everything abt this place is fire
Excellent Thai food, live 30 min away and it's our place for Thai food. They prepare the food just the way you ask. They also have a Sushi Bar, I'm not a sushi guy so I don't know much about it, but by the volume of folks ordering and coming in for pickup, it's a popular place. If you haven't been give it a try.
Very good and yummy
You won't be disappointed
The best sushi on the beach, delicious pad Thai
Yummmmmy!! The clear noodles with chicken was A+! 🫶
Mediocre thai food. Staff not very attentive at all...was on her phone rather than serving us. The sushi was nice.
We took a girls trip to the area and were excited to try this place with all the great reviews. Hate to say it, but it wasn't that great. We had 5 entrees that we all shared family style and only 1 of the 5 were great. I didn't have any, but others in mynparty did enjoy the sushi.
I've tried many things on the menu and they've all been excellent! Owners and staff are very friendly too.
Delicious
Such a loving place, amazing food, great people. Definitely recommend!
Staff is very friendly.
Food is well portion especially sashimi. Chicken pad thai sauce is missing something smokey- don't think it was prepared in a wok. Mango sticky rice missing coconut sauce. Vegetables stir fry had too much corn starch.
Prices online don't match actual menu. It was pretty busy so we did take out. The sit in area is okay, a bit outdated but gives you that authentic feeling.
1 of the Cheapest Asian eateries in Madeira Beach, so go there for okay food but wonderful accommodating service.
The best Thai food up and down the Gulf beaches by far! The sushi is amazing too. Fantastic service as well!
Best restaurant I’ve ever been in. Food and service was impeccable. Definitely will be enjoying another meal here sometime soon!
Food was terrible, service was even worse. Salmon tasted old like it had been left out. Waitresses had an attitude with anything extra we asked for. Not to mention they add 20% gratuity whether you’re a party of 1 or a party of 6 and they refuse to take it off. They don’t deserve the tip they give themselves from our wallet. It’s stealing at that point. I highly don’t recommend coming here
The service is OK but the foods is really bad! We are close to the ocean but the sushi is still not fresh. Not sure why. I came here expecting fresh seafood. My wife got the pad Thai but was very sour. Not worth the stop.
Words can't explain what I went through. I saw a waiter go at it with an oriental male. Honestly the waiter seemed like she was racist. She went on and started am argument with him for no reason. All because the couple questioned the tip. The waiter escalated the situation amd called the cops playing the victim. She's should not be working or needs better training to de escalate situations.
Terrible Food, waitresses have an attitude and even fought with an old asian man over a tipping issue. Absolutely a disgrace. Management should be looking for new help. Will never subject myself or my family to this kinda environment for a dining purpose. There should be no way gratuity should be included with this kinda behavior.
We got here an hour before closing, but they told us, they don't serve for dining. So, didn't even got a chance to try their food 😕
Short staffed but decent
The mango sticky rice is so sour
👎 Crookedest Restaurant in Town—Avoid At All Cost!
This crookedest restaurant in town is on a lookout for unsuspecting victims to gyp and fleece them at all cost (food is passable, tho): a rude waitress charged me a $1 for extra ginger, then tacked on a whopping 18% tip (buyer beware!), refused to reveal her name (Monica on the receipt), made me wait about 10 minutes for the manager/owner, then said she was busy and couldn't come out (lied, of course, as she never called her in the first place). Be prepared to dispute the charges and confrontation.
UPD: Naturally, I subtracted the tip and signed the check for the lesser amount, however, the restaurant still submitted the fraudulent amount of $81.25 to the bank. Also note the $1 for extra ginger...
We have been regulars here for 10 years. I love this place. Food is ALWAYS spectacular. Great service too. Best Thai on the beach- 💫💫💫💫💫
Really good place! However we were turned away at 8:37pm on a Friday night when the Google listing says they’re open until 9:30pm and the Apple Maps listing says they’re open until 10pm. Hostess said they stop dining room service at 8:45. If that were true, then why not seat us? Also update your posted times online if that is the case.
Additionally, that’s pretty early for a weekend night. I’m sure staffing is tough but they’re missing out on revenue turning away business before 9pm on a weekend. A shame as well as their food is pretty good.
Best Sushi in the area. Highly recommend!
More than one person waiting for them to open. Guess they didn't wanna show up to work in time. We left.
Great sushi, but high prices and tiny portions.
The sushi is mostly rice, the seaweed salad is mostly cucumber, it’s all filler tricks - like heavy ice in a drink
Food was ok. Party of 5 and put us at two different tables and our sushi on one plate, that doesn’t work very well esp with kids. Our server was rude.
The fried rice and curry are bomb
Best Thai food! I have been coming to this family restaurant for a few years now and their food is always delicious. I drive all the way here from Orlando to enjoy their Thai Coconut Chicken Soup. No other Thai restaurant compares to this one. Highly recommended!
The spring rolls reheated in your oven taste better than the fresh ones at other restaurants. Yes the food is that good!
All home-cooked food. Greatest spot around town with reasonable prices. Have been going here for years. Family owned and operated
My husband and I went to this place at 8pm on a Friday night. There were two open but not clean tables. We stood awkwardly at the door for 15 minutes with no acknowledgement at all, not even a please wait or we will be with you soon. We left.
Walked into restaurant and many tables needed bussing. Ordered the Pineapple Fried Rice with beef, medium heat. The dish's presentation was poor. The meat was grey in color and the fried rice was bland in flavor. Additionally I have never seen broccoli in a Pineapple Fried Rice dish before (I HATE broccoli) and it wasn't in the menu description but there it was. They will not have me as a return customer.
Excellent service and delicious food. It is the place to come back for more.
Amazing!
Such a great spot for sushi! We live nearby and on a whim decided to try this place. Great service, great prices, and everything was incredibly fresh. We will 100% be back and highly recommend!
Always the best in service & food.
Excellent delicious meals. Very reasonable prices and friendly atmosphere. 👍👍
Meh. Average or slightly below average food quality with inattentive service.
Negatives:
When the gal brought the waters, she set them on the table as if she was angry we were inconveniencing her by making her bring us drinks in the first place.
The chirashi had fake crab “krab”. Gross. I wouldn’t feed my dog fake krab.
The prices were average, but too expensive for this quality of food.
They have escolar on the menu.
The focus here is obviously on the Thai food not the sushi.
The interior is cluttered, and there’s just stuff everywhere. There was a giant pile of napkins laying on the sushi bar next to a bunch of empty boxes.
Positives:
Parking was easy (Monday afternoon at 3pm)
Fair prices for the Thai food if the portions are average (we didn’t try the Thai food; only the sushi)
We will not be back here.
The beef noodle soup is AMAZING! My husband and I go here at least twice a week! Great sushi too!
Took the family to dinner here for my daughter's birthday celebration. What a great meal! The appetizers we had were the dumplings and crab Rangoon, both were tasty. The curries were tremendous. The sushi options were plentiful. It was artfully done and tasted excellent. NaNa our server was super pleasant and attended to everything we needed. Great place for dinner.
I was excited when I was ordering food. Ordered a lot of food and the lady over the phone told me my bill is $140 and some change and charged my card over the phone.. Not a problem at all.
When I went to go pick up my food, I was charged over $170 because they charge service fees (tips) even if you’re not dining in the restaurant. Charged me around $25ish in tips..which is ridiculous and she failed to mention that to me over the phone. Completely unethical and not being honest over the phone. When we tried talking to her in person, she was very rude and penny pinching. Just be careful when ordering food over the phone.
Must be new owners? Food was not good. Service was terrible. M
Single man 8n his 40 eats alone.
Ok, so i think I may be a bit of a snob, ill apologize now. When we got to this restaurant I thought, oh oh, it didn't look like the restaurants I normally go in from the looks of the outside (it does need a little referb with the decor/curtains mainly), BUT I said, let's give it a try,. Well I totally eat my words, the staff are wonderful and the food was amazing, ive eaten at Thai restaurants before near home but I loved this one so much we went back two days later and it was our Anniversary. ❤️ thank you.
Best Thai soup around. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ OMG i can’t believe it took us this long to find this spot! We will be adding to our weekly Thai fix! Perfect atmosphere day or night! 🌙
Food was tasty and customer service is good.
This is the best Thai restaurant we have ever been to, and we have been to quite a lot! The flavors were outstanding and all the ingredients were so fresh. The spicy Thai basil noodles are a must! The lunch menu is great deal
Good food, excellent service, fair prices. Our server (Nana) was a delight. On the negative side is that they allow dogs in the indoor dining area. Totally disgusting and unsanitary. Don’t think I’ll return :(
Thai Star Sushi Bar is our favorite! The cuisine is very delicious! While we normally order Thai curries, we've also eaten sushi, pad Thai, and other items that were all delicious.
Walked in, waited 10 minutes, walked out. Had several employees go by me without saying a word.
Found this place through google. Went for lunch and were really surprised! Food was excellent! We tried gyozas, edamame and papaya salad as entrees and they were top! Then ordered Red Curry (medium) and Pad Thai…OMG! Delicious!! This place is a must in St. Pete!
We've dined there 3 times. We've ordered most of the menu items and the food is excellent. I don't write many reviews but this place deserves a 5 star. Best appetizers, sushi and entrées I've had in awhile. Service can be a little spotty but worth it for the food.
Ordered a couple of sushi rolls and appetizers. Even though it took an extra couple of minutes, Thai Star waited until I arrived to quickly cook the appetizers so they would be fresh for the trip home. I so appreciate the gesture. My new favorite appetizer is the octopus balls (takoyaki). Yum.
I don't usually like to give a bad review but I sat in a bench in the back corner I got chewed Alive by some type of bugs.
I Love Sushi I am sorry to say this was by far the most disappointing Sushi I have ever eaten. I also ordered some Pad Thai, I've never eaten anything like this, I took a few bites it was a sour salty brown sauce overkill. Not edible. I would not recommend this restaurant to anybody. Sorry for the bad review but I wouldn't send anybody I know locally here
This is my favorite Thai place
I’ve dined here many times and always had a great experience…however, this evening I was turned away an entire 45 minutes before closing because they had “already done last call”
That just seems a little bit excessive…
We love Thai Star Sushi Bar! The food is absolutely fantastic! While we usually get the Thai curries, we have also had sushi, pad Thai, and other dishes and everything was amazing. The staff is also friendly and provides good service. We bring all our out of town guests here and everyone loves it. Highly recommend!
Bit tourist trappy. The atmosphere is nice though, food was pretty salty and the "spicy" version was just the same as the mild version but with red pepper flakes.... what is this pizza?
The food was amazing
The sushi chef had no manners‼️He was so rude ‼️ I just placed 1 order for togo before his lunch break. He couldn’t handle his temper at all. If he didn’t want to make this order, he should have said something before I paid my money. He yelled and his voice was loud. I will never go back to this place again. This is my worst experience of my life.
Delicious food and great staff!
I love sushi because it’s always predictable. They were busy but handled it efficiently. Didn’t have some sushi rolls we were used to getting but what we tried tasted good. I appreciate that they had gluten free soy sauce.
Awesome food. Good people.
Too small amount of chicken satay, sushi man not smile or say hello at all.very unfriendly person
Super cold temperature as far as AC goes so bring a sweater or jacket and get some hot sake upon arrival. Food is wonderful.
Online menu prices inaccurate, food was okay but not that good. Worth a try if you really want sushi though
Very good food! Clean, nice, fast service. I’d go back… thank you.
Unfortunately, this restaurant is your average Asian take out. If that's your thing, go for it. But if you want authentic Thai, don't do it.
Cozy little place with great food. Highly recommend stopping in.
Everybody liked their food. There prices weren't too bad. Dining in was also very quiet which I liked. Waitress was very nice and quick with the food.
Incredibly fresh and fast Thai food. Very friendly service even with a full dine in lunch crowd. Many take out orders as well.
Always delicious!
Highly recommend. Everything we ordered was delicious - we ordered sushi, thai basil noodles, and shrimp fried rice. Small and quaint. They were short staffed but we still had a great experience with our waitress.
Food so delicious, friendly & efficient waiters. Love it here.
We picked up Thai food to go. The food that said it was spicy really wasn't. Ask for hot sauce to go. Overall taste was ok.
Authentic and inexpensive! Yaki soba came with lots of vegetables and is not sweet or overly saucy - loved it! Beef noodle soup was big! Remember to let the server know you want basil/bean sprouts if they didn’t come. Their “hot” level is not the uncomfortable kind so if you are used to spicy food I’d say go for it.
Can’t wait to come back and try something else on the menu.

Our appetizer was soup. Husband ordered the vegetable soup and I ordered the miso.
Husband ordered the Masaman Curry with Chicken, Thai Hot. A different but delicious curry.
I ordered the Pad Thai with Chicken. Not super hot. I'm not crazy for the heat like the husband.
Food arrived hot & delicious.
I order vegetables and Satay
Family loves beef noodle soup and wings. We.had great miso soup. We dine regularly and are always happy
Busy. Go earlier.
Everythings ok, good experience
Great atmosphere, excellent peanut sauce chicken.
When I ordered sushi rolls for take out and they told me 30 minutes, I was good with that knowing that if it took them a bit, the sushi had to be great...and it was. It was Saturday night at dinner time and the dining area was full. Their sushi is extremely fresh and reasonably priced.
I went with one other person who had the lunch special here during the week (they do not have the lunch special on weekends).
Pros:
-Tasty Thai dishes, beautifully presented. We had chicken with mixed vegetables and beef panang curry.
-The kitchen was fast with our orders.
-Reasonable prices, very good for weekday lunch specials
-Clean and well-kept interior. Good option near Madeira Beach.
Cons (most can be easily improved)
-I've had sushi at many sushi restaurants, (including Thai+sushi restaurants) throughout the Tampa area and elsewhere. The sushi here was of below average quality. I ordered the spicy tuna roll and a Miami Heat roll. The rice was simply not good. Unclear if it was improperly prepared, too old, or simply a poor choice of rice for sushi. The fish was also below average in quality. This was especially apparent with the spicy tuna roll. I ate one roll, tried a piece from the other, and gave up. They respectfully deducted the cost of one roll from the meal.
-The music playlist was awful. Pop romance? And not the good kind. It was like a 13-year old pseudo-emo girl skipped goth, punk, metal, and rock and went straight for... I'm honestly not sure... it sounded like stale wonderbread tastes.
-It's in a strip mall. I don't mind this at all but others might if looking for a date spot etc.
We ordered green curry, noodles and some rolls. Good food and very nice service. Green curry was exceptional. Recommend the place
Loved the food service timely and courteous really enjoyed the lunch 😀
Quick attentive service. We sat right at the bar and were able to watch first hand the rolls in the making. Generous with the wasbi. Very close to the house and place we will visit again for sure. Affordable and speedy service!
Visiting Redington Beach area from out of town and stopped for a take out order. Everything was fresh, delicious and great quality. Many restaurants don't seem to try and this one does. I had the snapper volcano, spring rolls and veggie fried rice. Who doesn't love big pieces of mushrooms, peppers, onions or broccoli in their food versus measly hints of veggies. If we come back, this is definitely worth a revisit.
Amazing portion of incredibly delicious food on the lunch menu. Carrot ginger dressing on the salad is one of the best that I've ever tasted. I'm very, very happy to have found this place.
Satay, shrimp dumplings, crab Rangoon all great. Beef noodle soup Thai style not Pho is delicious. Massaman Curry delicious. Staff is great. Foods good, will be back for more curries and noodle dishes
Really nice family of owned and laid back atmosphere. Excellent sushi and Japanese appetizers in both quality and quantity. I'm going back for sure.
Great sushi. Amazing soup!
Thai Star Sushi Bar serves the best sushi we have ever had and we have had a lot. You must try this place if you're ever in the area.
So good. We've had dine in and take out a few times and it's always good.
A nice little restaurant! We were seated right away and our server was kind and efficient. Food was quickly prepared despite being short staffed. We got the krab rangoon appetizer, which was essentially a cream cheese wanton - I couldn't taste any crab around that. My husband was super impressed with his sushi and sashimi! This is definitely the place to go for that! I was less impressed with the chicken lo mein. The description of the dish didn't match what was given. According to the menu, it shouldn't have mushrooms or celery, but they were tossed in anyway. I'm not a mushroom fan, so I would've asked for the dish without them if I had known. Overall, a good experience. I'd go again and order differently.
The curry was amazing. Great flavors, huge portions, quick service. Highly recommend.
Local beachside spot. Everything was good from sushi, to Thai options, and even some Chinese inspired dishes like their Orange Chicken.
the sushi is amazing and so is the food. the service is ok.
Green curry was flavorful and spicy. Sushi was delicious.
Super good food at fair prices. Professional and friendly service, with positive attitude. Great experience with family.
Sushi was great
Everybody is hurting but dang.
Just stopped by for the spring rolls (4) and the cashew mut chicken accompanied by a Sapporo & chardonnay. Prices & selection were very good. Sushi also offered. Would go again! Our server, NaNa, was very courteous, professional & efficient. I would highly reccomend trying!
Best sushi on the beach. 🍣🍱
Best food in Madeira by far!! So fresh, so yummy and it’s always worth whatever the wait may be.
Delicious food! Excellent!
Absolutely love this place! Everyone we take here raves about it.
The house salad has my favorite ginger dressing ever and the curry is to die for. If you stop in, make sure you get a sushi roll too. Their sushi rice is far above the competition and you don’t get 80% rice in your rolls.
It’s small, but it’s worth the wait! I highly recommend Thai Star.
I'm sure the food at Thai Star is 5 stars but unfortunately we never got to taste it. We walked 0.9 miles from our beach rental to the Thai Star for lunch one day. We arrived at 11:35 AM and their "OPEN" sign was on and their Google Business Page said they were open at 11:30 AM that day but the door was locked. After a minute or two, a man, who I am assuming was the owner or manager, unlocked the door and told us he was waiting on the cook to show up. He then locked the door back up and left us to wait outside, in the Florida heat. A few minutes later, the man came back to the door, unlocked it, stepped outside, locked the door from the outside, got in his vehicle and left the establishment without saying so much as a word to us. The whole encounter was very odd and unprofessional. We proceeded down the road to find another eatery, as it was too hot and we were too hungry to wait for the man to return. We quickly found Frabotta's Beach Kitchen another minute or two down the road, where they welcomed us inside a few minutes before they officially opened, offered great service and tasty food. I would recommend the Fish Spread for starters.
Sushi is fresh and wonderful! Pad Thai is delicious! Friendly service. Favorite sushi place!
1st time there food was great and plentiful
Food was amazing and service was perfect
your order is made by writing on personal menus and filling out what you desire, speeding up the process and helping with anxiety anyone may face from ordering. the food was also great.
Great food.
My absolute favorite Thai restaurant. My family and I live almost two hours away and chose to go to Madeira Beach over other beaches since Thai Star is there. Not only is the food AMAZING, but the service is always great as well. We came in once for dinner with my daughter, and then my husband and I went back alone a few months later and our server asked "No baby today?" I was amazed she remembered us!! Overall 10/10
Very decent 🍣
Great food and great service. Always consistently good.
This place is absolutely TERRIBLE!!!!! They never answer their phone, we came in as a party of 4, they opened a table for 1 person, and had the nerve to say they were no longer seating anyone. As a local on the beach, they will no longer get any of our business or the big tips we leave. Hands down worst place out, highly recommend PETES SUSHI, they treat you like a local and always have room for you. If you can’t handle the people coming to your restaurant, you should close
Only place I go for sushi service is always outstanding and the atmosphere is perfect!
Delicious meal, friendly staff. So happy we found this place while we are visiting St Pete. Definitely recommend!
The sushi is so fresh it melts is your mouth!
Excellent combination of ingredients in the specialty rolls, too.
Golden Dragon roll, Sexy Lady, Big Daddy were our choice - pictures attached.
The Phad Thai was served with shrimp per our choice, and the shrimp were fresh as well, the noodles nor the sprouts weren't overcooked - well-made dish with nutty, tangy sweet and sour flavor.
