Owned and operated Thai restaurant in New Hartford, CT for over 14 years.
My friend suggested this place for lunch about a month back and it's pricey but I would go back, preferably to dine in the next time. Since it was our first time we ordered a few things to share on the go. Beef satay which was good with a nice kick of flavor. There were between 5 or 6 of them and they were a good size. The shrimp dumplings and the vegetable dumplings were fresh and good and my friend preferred them more than I did but I'm not a dumpling person. I did try the vegetable dumplings and I did like them because the filling was awesome and had a nice crunch to them. For an entree we had the Hot Basil stir fry with beef, magnificent flavor, freshness, and seasonings. Nice kick of heat without being over powering. I would reorder that in a heartbeat.
Got tofu pad thai take out from here because I was in the area for a doctor appt. Didn’t really know what to expect but I was in the mood for thai so thought I would give it a chance. I gotta say this is some of the best pad thai I’ve ever had if not the best. And I have had pad thai at many places. It was steaming hot, the noodles perfectly were tender: not too soft and a little chewy. The sauce coated the noodles entirely, more sticky and not soupy. Overall, so much flavor and the texture was perfect. The inside of the restaurant was decorated very cute as well. The two girls were very nice and my food was ready in less than 10 min.
Hot Basil has been a standby Thai Restaurant on New Park Ave for many years now. I had not visited this eatery for quite some time. I was greeted by some happy young girls who were learning the ropes. I ordered a common Thom Khar soup with chicken and Pad Thai for a main dish. The soup was not as rich in coconut as some, but had the lovely flavor and aroma with lemongrass.
The pad Thai was a generous portion and very flavorful.
Any time one has the craving for some good Thai food, this is the place to go.
Best pad Thai I've had in CT. Great option if you're in the mood for Thai food. Crab Rangoons are solid too. Overall the food is great, but there's a spice/vegetable that is in a few things that I could do without (tastes like spicy licorice). The price is a bit high too, but that may just be a function of inflation...
We eat here a lot (take out mostly) because we live very close by and love Thai food. We normally get the same thing every time, but two nights ago I decided to try a few different things. I ordered samosas, pork dumplings, sriracha pad thai (the one standby item we always order) and the green curry. I spent $70. The samosas and dumplings were some of the worst I’ve ever had. The samosas were soaking wet and mushy and the dumpling wrappers were steamed but almost over cooked if I had to guess? They were completely falling apart and had a bad texture. The green curry came with a shockingly small amount of rice for $24. Overall extremely disappointing. And for reference, the food was being bagged when my husband picked it up and we live a mile away, so the food was fresh and had not sat more than 10 minutes before we opened it to eat. Maybe it was a bad night, but it put me off enough to not order again for quite a while. $70 now a days isn’t chump change and I would expect better quality for the money.
Hot Basil 🔥 went there on Valentine's Day. And as always delicious!
Great restaurant! Great interior and great lighting! I love the coziness and the fabulous food! I 10000% recommend amazing place! 🇹🇭 🤗

Great food and service!!!
The owner and his family were extremely kind. Food is top tier Thai food. The inside has very nice and I regret not sitting down to eat.
The food was amazing. We ordered the Drunken Noodles and the Sriracha Pad Thai and would highly recommend both dishes! The girls at the front counter were very sweet, polite and professional! The other staff we interacted with was also very welcoming. The food was so fresh, we had a bit of a drive home and even once we were able to dig in, the food was still piping hot! The price was great as well. We ordered online for pick-up and were able to use a 25% off coupon! All in all a great experience and we will definitely be returning very soon.
Fabulous service and delicious food. Every time!
Absolutely delicious, and very fresh food! The lady who served us was extremely nice and very patient while we figured out what to order. Once we ordered, the food came out quite fast. I got Drunken noodles, which was spicy, but also flavorful, with perfectly cooked veggies. My date got the sweet chili salmon, which was cooked to perfection, with a crispy skin to die for! I absolutely plan on coming here again, whether it's for takeout or dining in.
Best Thai around, plus great staff/service
Very good!
Hair in food, burnt tofu, won't be returning

best thai food in the area. the bubble teas are great too
Staff was polite and pleasant. Food was delicious and into "home cooking" level, not so commercialized. We'll def come back.
I have lived in West Hartford for close to 20 years, and I have been wanting to visit here for such a long time. Today was the day and IT - WAS - FANTASTIC. First, we were greeted by the owner and her employees who were so charming and friendly. Second, the food was fresh and so delicious. My son and I both had drunken noodle with chicken. The rice noodles were wide and tender. The vegetables were crunchy and fresh. And the flavor was so good I could have eaten another bowl. When I post reviews, I only take the time to write about an experience that was positive. Nice people and great food mean we will be back. Keep up the great work guys!
deceiving description on Uber eats. This restaurant created a “ghost kitchen” On the Uber eats app to make it seem like it was a 100% vegan restaurant. They even went as far to give it a different name than hot basil. If a business practice is trying to receive customers in this way, I wonder and what other way is there to see customers?
Don’t know why I didn’t try this place sooner! Love their Papaya salad and their drunken noodles were delish! Will 100% be back! This will be my new go-to take out place as well!
terrible curries, super watery. Noodles were dry but better comparatively.
Best Thai spot in ct!
The food is excellent and the service is wonderful. It's one of my favorite spots.
Amazing Pad Thai and summer rolls! Both had a lot of flavor and worth the money.
Drunken noodles with veggies and tofu every Tuesday for years! 😆
The family that owns hot basil is so sweet and amazing.
I will continue my Tuesday tradition until I am 99.9% composed of noodles.
Highly recommend you stop by and try it out. Friendly service and great food. Plenty of Uber Eats traffic coming and going so many locals have discovered yhis great food
HBTC creates distinct excellent flavors for all its classic Thai dishes. The Coconut Chicken soup was citrusy delicious and intense as was the hot and sour shrimp soup which had a complex and rather spicy savory broth. The spicy wings were both crispy and delicate and even the spicy pork dumplings were a savory mouthful. The stir fry and coconut curry were excellent and again distinctive. Worth both a detour and a repeat visit!
Amazing friendly and prompt
Hot Basil is one of our favorite go to restaurants in the region. They are family owned and operated. Their food is exceptional and provides a wide flavor profile. The owners are super friendly and always go out of their way to insure their customers are happy. We couldn’t be more pleased with their operation and dedication to excellence.
Best pad Thai I've had in CT. Great option if you're in the mood for Thai food. Crab Rangoons are solid too. We walked out this restaurant. There were no customers, not busy at all. The lady who worked there didn’t care, on the phone but not food orders related. Very bad customer service!!!
Absolutely fantastic place. The dumplings are so delicious. The decor and atmosphere and music ✅. The prices are worth the quality, taste, and quantity of food.
YUM!!!
Had to wait a long time for the food and was given very little quantity despite the high prices.
We stopped by to have lunch on our way to another city. The owner was very nice and even gave cookies to our kids. Food was very tasty.
Great Thai food. Good service
Generous portions - I took half home for lunch the next day!
All of their food is fresh and excellent. Get the hot basil stir fry and thank me later. :)
Best thai restaurant in the area! I had Green Curry and Basil Fried Rice. Both taste pretty authentic to Thai dish. They have vegetarian option too. Good portion. Good service. Will definitely be back next week!!
This is our go-to Thai place in Hartford County. The food is great, staff are extremely friendly, and the prices are good. Portions = hearty.
Highly recommend:
Spicy Hot Basil Noodles
Basil Fried Rice
Green Curry
They handily accommodate vegan and gluten free diets, sometimes in the same dish. The fried tofu is incredible.
Dine in if you can, getting it fresh from the kitchen beats having it sit in a box!
Food was great. All the vegetables were freshly prepared and I asked for mild and got it. Very nice presentation.. Prices are high, but, worth it. Can't wait to go back.
Worst green curry with pork I’ve ever had. A minuscule amount of tasteless ground pork with a few vegetables. Ground pork in curry? Not only is it one of the cheapest meats that money can buy, I have never, ever seen it in curry at a good Thai restaurant. Just as an aside, one of the vegetables was broccoli, very large stalks—really? Who puts giant broccoli stalks in curry?
I asked for sticky rice because I figured it came with the curry, but not so sure, because the price overall was outrageous. Will get to that.
I also ordered the spring rolls which were OK, nothing special. The bill was $29. I have no idea how this place stays open. Stay away! This place is a joke in terms of Thai restaurants. There are much better and better priced options in the area.
Sriracha Pad Thai and regular Pad Thai were amazing! The restaurant was clean and the staff was extremely friendly. We got take out but we will be dining in next time. We will definitely be back!
Got takeout based on the reviews and was very disappointed. We did not enjoy anything we ordered. Food lacked flavor. Soup was watery with chewy chicken. One shrimp in a summer roll.
We ordered drunken noodle, peanut chicken and several skewers. All were tasty. The vegetables were fresh. The presentations of the dishes were neat. They have around 7 tables for people to dine in. I think most of the businesses were take out. It is a cute family-run Thai cafe. We all enjoyed the experience.
Awesome
This restaurant is a true hidden gem. The food is consistent and always excellent. I’ve ordered food there both take out and dine in several times, have never been disappointed. I definitely recommend this restaurant.
The chicken pad thai here is amazing I always get their spicy pad fast service and tasty food
A friend took me here. It looks like a place that I would just normally drive by, but the food was AMAZING! It was sooooo goo that all of us cleard our plates.
The restaurant is cozy, quiet, dimly lit, and warm. Always clean. The service is on-point with kind wait staff and a quick kitchen. They accommodate gluten-free and vegetarian/vegan preferences easily and make sure the food is labeled as such. They have tofu and fried tofu, and I highly recommend the latter. My favorite thing there is peanut stir fry - so good. They serve mango sticky rice even when mangoes are out of season, so I recommend waiting until they're fresh for that!!
Update: this place is still so good. They have a dedicated vegan menu on UberEATS now and will put the dryer dishes in paper containers upon request.
Cute small restaurant with little parking. Not much seating inside but the food was tasty and the workers are nice
Great food
Went to Hot Basil to eat at 2:33 and was told the restaurant was closing in a few minutes. I did not realize until I went back to my car that the place was not closing until 3:00. Was going to be the first time trying the restaurant but will have to find another place.
Lots of thai places in CT and this is easily the best. Fresh made to order, friendly, and just delicious.
I keep coming back to Hot Basil for the fresh taste and fast service. Great food at a good price
Heard this place was good.
And it is fantastic
I think I just got the wrong dish, but the pad Thai was too sweet. However the spring rolls were tasty and crispy
The food is very good. Super good. Reliable. Here's the kind of business they're running: I placed a big order for pickup at 7:45. When I got there it was delayed by maybe 5 minutes, so they threw in some spring rolls for free. Didn't need to do that, but was much appreciated. Good stuff.
Have gone to a fair number of Thai restaurants over the year. This one...not so good.
WAY TOO MUCH MSG. Got a very strong headache recently when they put so much MSG, the food was uneatable.
Inconsistent service/taste/time to fulfill order from day to day.
I am not coming back. Not interested!
Everything about this place was amazing! Small very quaint quiet with nice music in the background. No bar but it's a byob. The food was amazing I had salmon with a sweet chili sauce and it tasted just as amazing as it looked! The food was plated beautifully I felt like I was at a MasterChef restaurant we had chicken curry puffs and beef satay for appetizers and everything was fabulous... They seem to do a very good business there but the majority of it was take out. I will definitely be back..hope this was helpful..plz don't forget to hit LIKE if it was
Excellent fresh and flavorful Thai foof
We just finished dinner and I had the best curry I have ever tasted! Fresh vegetables, tender tofu, perfectly spiced. The summer rolls were delicious and creatively prepared. Will definitely be back!
Favorite place for Thai food. Food is always fresh and delicious. Great service, food always done on time, and large portions. Absolutely one of the best Thai restaurants in the Hartford area. I highly recommend it!
Omg so good and so clean!!!! Love this place <3
Ordered pineapple fried rice (lunch portion) for pickup and when I came back to work to eat it, the rice was burnt and crunchy and there was absolutely NO salt/flavor in the dish. Tried to talk to the manager who insisted that they were no issues with the recipe nor how it was prepared today. I gave up as there was no point in making him realize or understand the issue. Definitely never going back.
Came here based on reviews. Ordered the chicken drunken noodles for lunch. Food was ready on time. Staff was friendly. Food was ok. It lacked flavor/sauce. Overall bland in my opinion. When it comes to drunken noodles this place does not deliver. Lunch portion comes with noodles only. Unlike other place who give you soup/salad or spring roll.
It's been forever since I've had Thai, even longer since Thai this good. The service was great, the food awesome. Look, just go try it out. You should be happy you did. HOT BASIL, I don't give 5 stars to anyone, there's always a way that something could improve but I don't run a restaurant so can't think of it. Thanks for the food.
My favorite Thai restaurant for over a decade!
Great thai food
Very good Thai food. Large portions and quick take out. Fair prices for the amount of food you get. Inside is very nice for dining as well.
This is absolutely one of the best Thai restaurants in the area. The staff is always friendly. They appreciate the online orders, and it's really quick and easy to pick up. I highly recommend their Mango Curry.
The menu is not huge. The portions are very generous. The food is fantastic. This is my favorite take out. Period.
Friendly Customer Service!
Found a burned piece of charcoal or something in my curry that just ruined my lunch. My roommates enjoyed the Pad thai, my Curry was watery and packed flavor. Except the black chunk of whatever I found in my food. It's a shame I paid so much to be so disappointed. Might have better luck next time
Excellent food and always prompt with online orders
very good yum yum
Food is always good very consistent.
I am definitely going back to Hot Basil!... I just had the Hot basil chicken fried rice along with the skewered chicken with a peanut sauce. OMG! I'm a hot spice lover and I ordered my rice extra spicy, thinking they weren't going to deliver the 🔥, but they did. Hot, just the way I wanted it. It kept my mouth watering... Lol... This will satisfy those that love the heat without taste being compromised by too much heat. Perfect balance for me. The skewered chicken was juicy and awesome with the peanut sauce. I definitely recommend this place and their food. So, so, fresh!
My favorite Thai food in CT! If you like Thai food, this place is a must try if you a local, or just visiting ... Don't believe me, it was voted best Thai food in CT multiple years ... The proof is in the pudding, or in this case in the fried 🍚
Very good
Ordered vegetable pad thai - pretty common dish at all thai restaurant I am not sure how this place got it wong- there was no sauce? It was just dry noodles and like 2 pieces of broccoli.
This place is just ok. I've had muchhhhh better thai.
Friendly staff, very attentive and the food is delicious!! Definitely give this place a try.
Amazing Thai food and cute decor. It’s tiny and has lots of vegetarian options.
By far, my favorite thai place!!! Everything is so delicious
Love the panam curry
Great pricing, very good serving, excellent taste!
Delicious food!
I don't get to this area often, but when I do I stop here. Authentic, fresh, and clean. Very peaceful interior and lovely staff.
I just get jasmine rice and the chicken coconut soup. Yum.
I know the restaurant for long time but is look like is a new chef or owner
the drunk noodles is not the same
My favorite Thai restaurant!! Great food.
Small clean and the ambiance is lovely
Love Hot Basil! We come here often and always a great experience. They are very accommodating as many of the dishes that I like have eggplant in it and I always get them to not include it. Great staff too!
One of my favorites
Fresh ingredients and very flavorful !
Ordered chicken fried rice and a house salad for close to 20. The salad was pretty good, but I wasn't a fan of the rice. It had mint or some other flavor I'm not used to and barely any chicken.
Our meals were delicious.Service was excellent. It's a nice place. I highly recommend.
Great service. Excellent lunch.
The hot basil noodles are very nice. The default heat is good, bit might kick it up a notch next time. The portion is sized perfectly for lunch.
I'm no stranger to Thai food. It's hot, it's sweet, it's sour and complex. But Hot Basil is one of the few places that gets it right! I came here today with my mom because I wanted something that would properly clear out my sinuses. The first thing that struck me was the decor. There were plants everywhere! Due to this, the air in the restaurant was crisp and fresh, and I didn't realize how much I appreciated that until I left. The place was cozy but not cramped at all and I enjoyed the quiet buzz of conversation from the other patrons. My mum got the Thai iced tea and it was yummy and fresh. We got the chicken satay for an app and the peanut sauce that it comes with is nothing short of f&$king delicious. The lunch combo comes with soup and spring rolls. I opted for the tom yum chicken soup, which was hot, sour, and loaded with fresh veggies and tender morsels of chicken. I ordered the drunken noodles with pork, and holy hot sauce, it was packed with flavor. You could tell that the veggies were fresh and that everything is hand selected. My meal was about $15 after everything was said and done. I'm definitely coming back
Food was amazing
Nice and friendly staff, clean environment. Kitchen is just a little slow for my liking.
Great place
Absolute best place for Thai. Everything is so delicious, we don't go anywhere else!
