Unassuming, homey eatery with a large menu of basic & lesser-known Thai dishes, plus lunch specials.
We've come here for years. Today I had a shrimp pad Thai that had lots of extra weird chicken bits in it, and was absolutely unlike any other pad Thai I've ever had, anywhere. The noodles were both wrong and overly sweet. Overwhelming fish sauce flavor, with no veggies or aromatics other than the extra eggplant I asked for. The portions for other curry dishes are very scant for the prices. Even the amount of rice was stingy. Did enjoy the hot, plain Thai tea, but for $7 for two mugs, I think it was also overpriced. Service was friendly and attentive but food was subpar.
I come here pretty often when I need some good pineapple fried rice. Both dine in and out, food is tasty. Atmosphere inside is pretty nice and relaxing, good portions and always good friendly service. Parking can be tight but not too bad.
Love this restaurant! Food is very good and made as per your suggestion. We had been eating eggplant, cashew, chicken and shrimp dishes and all are always good. Their fried cheese cake was yummy too. Along the there is small bridge and steam, it’s very serene. They serve outside in summer and I love that!
The service was wonderful. The traditional tea was also so good. The restaurant was beautiful, clean, inviting. I enjoyed doing the crossword and having a warm cup of tea.
That's really where it ended though. The drunken noodles were bland. They also were not very broad noodles. They were a slightly broader than a standard fettuccine. They didn't have that nice, wok seared flavor. They lacked fish sauce umami goodness & were too sweet.
The spring rolls were just ice berg lettuce and some bland tofu. No herbs, no flavor. The wrapping was thin and the peanut sauce was too thick & sweet.
I was really disappointed esp since the food looked ok... I was hoping for lots of authentic Thai flavor. I would say this is a good spot if you like a mild, more Americanized Thai dish. Not for me.

Good food ,portions is in small side
Otherwise not a bad place
The food was exceptional and the service was very attentive. The price for the quality of food was fair. Definitely will be returning.
Great curry
The volcano chicken was awesomely crispy and sweet. The lighting was moody. Quite ordinary other than that
Onions Smell bad in basil fried rice. reported them they didnt admit that.

I have always enjoyed the dishes at Sawadee. I recommend it to people i meet all the time, and I'm so glad to see they have kept up with their amazing dishes and service for many years.
Pricey for food that was just ok. It lacked flavor but instead was extremely salty. The dining room had a funny smell. The decor is cute but the place is in serious need of an update. The waitress was slightly rude as well.
The "honey duck" is enough reason alone to leave a 5 star review. Friendly staff. Food is average price, for 2 about ~$45. Well worth the money. I've been here about 5 times and it's always been a pleasure and I always leave here full.
Edit: been coming here for years now, honey duck is still my favorite. Service is always great. I love this place.
Ordered 1) Sweet and sour duck ped preo warn and 2) Pad Woonesh. Both dishes tasted below average compared to other thai restaurants in area. Service and reception for takeout was very poor and person at the restaurant seemed uninterested.
Great honey duck with vegetables and rice. Good dumplings.
Have dined at this restaurant for years. I was introduced to their cuisine at a Business Showcase at Maneeley's. This restaurant was offering 5%off coupons at Showcase. So, my late Mom and I tried the restaurant, and I have continued all these years. Have tried most items, but my favorites are the curry dishes...3☆ heat, please.
I've had the pad thai and drunken noodles from this place. The food does not look and taste like traditional Thai food at all. The drunken noodles did not use the typical noodle and it contained raw tomatoes. The beef was colorless and bland. A disappointing experience. However, the spring rolls were nice.
A nice family run thai restaurant in Manchester . The ambience is very homely.
It was my second time there and the appetizers did come soon but the food did take time as they were down a cook. They did apologize for the delay as they had a lot of take out orders compared to the ppl in the restaurant.
The thai basil rice and the rad nah did come out very good. We did enjoy the food even though there was delay. The mango sticky rice wasnt that great but overall it will be good.
Would definitely come back!
If only the staff learns how to smile. That’ll elevate the whole mood of the place. Barely any greeting, or a hello. Let alone a smile.
If you read this and see them, just remind them to smile; until you still have teeth as it costs nothing.
The best Thai food this side of the CT river.
Lovely Thai restaurant, food is delicious.
We really like their chicken pai thai. We usually order to go. Really nice inside
1st time visit. Excellent waiter, great service and food was outstanding.
This restaurant is the hidden gem of South Windsor. I would recommend dinning in instead of takeout. The portion size for takeout is so much smaller. The atmosphere is so relaxing and service is wonderful. Very kind patient waiters and waitresses willing to explain the dishes. You can also adjust the amount of spices you want and they also have a spice tray if you would like to do it yourself. The food is fresh and fast. They make it when you order it and it’s not pre made ahead of time. You leave here in a much better mood then when you come in all because the food and service are so wonderful!
First time but not my last.
Great vibes
Great and pleasant service
Wonderful meal.
Best food
We love many of the dishes there
We go at least 3x a month
I placed a dinner order for my family online. It was supposed to be ready at 6:45 and I waited until 7:30 for my takeout order to be ready. Unacceptable service for a dinner that cost close to $100.
Very accommodating of my shellfish allergy. Food was very good!
Tried the Pad Thai and Basil fried rice. It was okay. Rice and noodles were overcooked and lacked flavor.
Strongly recommend the Crispy Basil Duck and Mango Cheesecake, absolutely delicious.
Sawadee is always a nice place for a meal. We went with a friend and had a super meal including yummy apps. Service is excellent The atmosphere gets just 4-stars because there is only so much that can be done with a small plaza location, but it is very inviting and very nicely decorated. Take is also perfect from Sawadee too!
First, I usually love this place but omg there is no oversight on spice or portions now. I always get 4 or 5 level spice here and other Thai I love spicy food. But the last two times I went milder because it was a bit much. Today their 3 spice was by far spicier than any curry I’ve had. Also, prices are kinda high for the lack of recent portions. The last 3 times I got takeout curry I received much less food than I use to. Until they address this and me I couldn’t justify the price for the food anymore.
The food is excellent. The service was slow because the wait staff was limited to three. Regardless, it's my new favorite Thai place.
Great restaurant for authentic Thai food

I ordered curry soup here. It wasn't bad but I have had much better. Overall not that bad.
I love this place. Their Pad Thai is gluten free and have gotten it many times.
We have been going here since they opened with friends and family from out of town. The best Thai place in the area. Order their Thai items, and you will see the difference between that and other oriental cuisines.
Beautiful dinning room, excellent service, fantastic Thai food.
Great Thai food and wonderful service!

I didn’t know what to expect never had Thai before! But restaurant is clean, staff is awesome and I’ve been back 3 times food is great!! Drunken Noodle and Volcano chicken, delicious!!
The experience NEVER disappoints! The food is always amazing and the best Thai we have ever had!
Fresh Spring Rolls are the best!
Amazing food!
Just left and looking forward to our next visit! Sooooo delicious. Had the veggie soup to start. Veggie broth with a garlic and ginger flavor with fresh cut vegetables. I had the Prik Khing and my wife had the Thai Basil fried rice. My entree was absolutely amazing. Fresh, light, ginger, I thought I caught lemongrass. I ate the entire plate of food it was so good! My wife’s entree was sweet on the front end with a heat that came creeping in and lingered joyfully. Excited for leftovers tomorrow. I can see us becoming regulars if this is the type of food we can expect. Bravo.
Rude and indifferent staff. We entered only to be greeted by an employee who was clearly in a bad mod who gave us attitude the moment we entered like she didn’t want us to be there. She asked us to wait to be seated in an almost empty place ( they had only three tables filled) - so I couldn’t understand why they couldn’t seat us right away. Then she has the time to keep answering phone calls but did not address the people standing at the front. We waited about 15 or more mins and left cause it didn’t seem like she was ready to seat us or was in a mood to serve us. Would rather go to a place where people are happy to serve customers.
The food was good, long wait.
Consistently the most incredible Thai food in the area. Recommend the green curry with tofu. There are a range of options for everyone. Atmosphere is lovely and so are the staff.
The best Thai around!
Food was delicious and generous portions.
The food and service is always great here. They have lots of options for both vegetarian and non vegetarian folks.
Great food!!!
I usually like giving the benefit of the doubt, reviewing not too harshly. Staff was great. Pad Thai looked pale and not as dark as I usually like it. The soup they gave me with the lunch special tasted like chicken noodle soup and too watery lool, wish there was more flavor.
Take out order, ordered the fresh wraps along with a chicken mushroom soup and Drunken Noodles with the protein being chicken. I must say the portion sizes for the price we're just really small and it was disappointing I just didn't feel that it had the right spice that I enjoyed. I have a couple go to Thai places and this place just comes up short.. but wasn't the worst place that I've ever eaten at so I give it 2 stars.
I just felt like I was getting lunch portions at dinner prices.
Best food and service hands down.
Very good food.
Awesome food and very fair prices.
I’ve been to many Thai restaurants but this is the best one I’ve had so far.
$15 for dinner size pad thai as they don’t do lunch sizes on weekends, it was the worse I’ve ever had, nothing but noodles stuck together badly that taste like vinegar! Never before in all the pad thais I’ve had did it taste like vinegar…it’s sure no Sukara quality. The rice had pork in it but it didn’t look or taste like pork. I will never go back as the rice was nothing flavorful either!
Awful! Overpriced and the food portions are small. I ordered pad Thai and it barely had flavor. Never again.
I ordered the honey duck and it was amazing! The shredded ginger was an excellent touch! Tonight, it was really busy and tried their best to keep up with demand. The atmosphere felt very comforting. The staff expressed great optimism, demonstrated patience, and flexibility.
Good food
The Drunken Noodles had the perfect amount of tofu and vegetables. My dishes are always well prepared and delicious. Staff is courteous and polite.
Very bad customer service, first they mixed my order and when I called to restaurant they said, I can claim on next order and it will be under my record no reference number for it. I called next time and restaurant rep. said they don't have any record and they can't help.BE CAREFUL WITH THEM.
Excellent food. Would return.
The best Thai! It was for a 🎂 we meet half way, some were from the CT southern coast and from greater Springfield MA. We all agreed it is the best Thai. We have been to several from both states and some were very good but this place is outstanding.
Today our experience was very sad day .basil fried rice not good rice not properly cooked ,drunken noodle very bad experience today .ginger soup different taste today . We are paying money pls give good taste for tat price.
Good atmosphere and great food
Our dining experience was great with Rocky L as our server. Kudos to Rocky L, very pleasant & informative. We had panang curry with tofu, massaman curry with beef, chicken cashew nut & chicken hot basil..... vegetables were crispy & sauces very flavorful. Level of spice is perfect.
Good tasty food, nice lunch menu
Unfriendly staff. Food was okay but portion sizes smaller than many other Thai restaurants. This is not the only Thai restaurant, I would recommend you to try somewhere else.
Best Pad Thai I've ever had! Crab Rangoon is amazing too, small rolls that cool down very fast and are loaded with crab!
A hidden gem in Connecticut!
I just tried their food for the first time and was completely blown away. The staff was pleasant and helpful. Since this happened to be my family's first time ordering from this restaurant we asked the staff to suggest something to us. So, she recommended that we try out either R1, R2, or Talay. Ordered R2 on their menu and it was yummy! If you are a fish lover like me, you'd want to try out their well-seasoned deep-fried red snapper fillet with steamed vegetables in spicy chili sauce. My order was a takeout but there is seating available for both indoor and outdoor. I highly recommend this Thai restaurant.
I have been coming here for 20 years and the Pad Thai is still the best I've ever had.
One of the best Thai restaurants I’ve been to. The shrimp dumplings are a “must have”. The peanut sauce/butter served with Fresh veg spring rolls is amazing.
Veg pad Thai noodles are good. The pineapple fried rice shouldn’t be missed. The thai green curry is perfectly balanced with thai favours and spices.
If you dont eat spiced food, go for 2 level spice.
If you eat spicy, go for 4 spice. Never tasted the 5 level, but , I was informed that its real thai hot.
The thai (singha) beer would be the perfect beverage with the meal.
And above all, the servers are really polite and treat you nicely.
The pad see ew, spring rolls, and chicken satay were amazing. Will def be back to try more of the menu.
Hadn't been there in a while and had a wonderful meal
Super delicious food, lots of flavour.... nothing too complicated, but Thai food made simply right.
Food came out quite slow but otherwise it's passable Thai food for the area.
I'll be back. so good. wish the portions were bigger though
Best pad Thai and fresh spring rolls I've ever had.
Always excellent!
Very nice and cozy Thai restaurant with some great menu options. The only real issue is the parking lot is small so you may have to park over by the bank on a busy night.
Excellent Food and customer service! One of best Thai Cuisine in Hartford region. !
Excellent food and great customer service.
Food is pretty good, service is great. I do wish it were a little spicier, though. It's on the bland side.
Sawadee's is by far my favorite Thai restaurant. A consistently great meal and friendly service.
Great Thai food! Very yummy massaman curry for me. However what really impressed me was the service. The waiter took our order with great attention to detail. I was impressed at his detailed questions about my preferences when I selected vegetables as my “protein” option. Thank you!
Great customer service and great flavors. Do yourself a favor and dine in while enjoying a Chang or Thai Iced Tea.
Food was fine, nothing outstanding.
Freshly made food, excellent service, warm atmosphere.
My go to place for Thai food and we do takeaway orders from here multiple times a month. Slightly more expensive than most Thai restaurants but the quality justifies the price !
My wife and I sat for over 20 min after being seated. No one ever came back, worst part is only 4 other tables were filled. Bad customer service. Avoid
I was so excited to support a local restaurant! Unfortunately I was extremely disappointed by the baby sized portions. After spending $60+ I expected way more than I received, sadly a burger and fries from a fast food chain would be more filling and way less of a financial hit. Overall food was so so and Chicken was over cooked and tough. Would NOT recommend and will not return.
This is a gem of a place. The portions are rather just about sufficient but the quality is absolutely top notch. Very well cooked food. Everything we ordered were well done and tasty but the red curry was outstanding.
Great Thai food
Great place awesome food and great service
The waiter and the chef were very helpful with my husband's allergy to nuts. I had a special, Basil Softshell Crab, and it was terrific! My husband had a soup and a noodle dish and enjoyed them very much.
Food was great, I remember the first time I went we got a crispy duck entree and it was sooo good. This time we got it, the taste was really good but the presentation and texture was just not on point. The papaya salad is weird, almost tastes like there's fish sauce in it. But other than that, everything is amazing. Fried rice is really good, the curry and chicken satay were some of the best I've ever had. Great spot!
The food is great, the price is great, the staff is great overall amazing definitely coming back.
Fantastic curry!
Best Thai Food Around!
delicious authentic thai food, personable staff and very reasonable prices :)
I stopped in here with my mom on a Thursday afternoon to enjoy some lunch. I pass this place all the time since I live in the area and have never tried it so was happy we were finally heading in. They are located in a small plaza with plenty pf parking and an easy to spot sign out front.
The inside was cozy and cute, I enjoyed the decor and overall atmosphere. The servers were quick to seat us and take our order. They were also friendly and explained any questions well.
The food was amazing. We got the duck curry and a hot basil, both lunch portions, and were amazed to see how large the portions were and how good the food was. Quality ingredients and flavorful.
I'd recommend a stop in if you have a craving for Thai food!
Straight trash. Portions are unsatisfying. They messed my order up, charged me for a dinner price when I received a lunch special. Then wanted to blame me for it. Btw never got a refund either. Never AGAIN!
First time going here, I am very pleased. The food quality and flavor are unparalleled and this restaurant ranks among the top of my all time list. The food was served fresh and hot and you can really tell that the ingredients are fresh. The service was speedy and the employees were very attentive. I will certainly be returning.
Service was great and speedy. Food was very good. Will definitely be back again.
Ok food
A good place for authentic Thai cuisine.
Food was delivered extremely quickly by a very handsome young man. Will return soon.
I love this hidden gem. The food is amazing and the service is amazing. dont just order the pad thai, explore the menu, you wont regret it! I love the thai iced tea it is addictive and the fresh rolls are one of my person favorites.
I've eaten in a lot of Thai restaurants and this is one of the best. Every meal I've had here has been fresh and delicious. And if you ask for extra spicy, you'll get it :=)
Great red curry chicken
The crispy spicy basil duck was fantastic. The duck crispy, the sauce amazingly subtly spicy and not to salty. Best version of this dish so far.
Great flavors - can't go wrong here! Though wish the serving size for the pad see ew was larger.
First time trying this spot. The employees were friendly. The shrimp pad thai was very good however they were a bit skimpy with the shrimp. My son liked the sticky rice.
This is one of my favorite spots! Delicious food, and very friendly staff. Nice ambience. I love the baby corn, yellow curry, and salmon sawadee.
The food is great and the service is good as well.
Ordered takeout Pad Thai for lunch which was pretty good.
I was a bit concerned that the quality will not be good due to pandemic situation, but I was wrong the curry was delicious so was the duck.
Decided to try this place out since Simply Thai was not available on any food delivery service. As someone that was raised in a Laotian household and had the pleasure of enjoying authentic meals from various Thai restaurants throughout Connecticut, this is simply the worst experience I ever had. I try my best to support local businesses especially ones that resonate with my background, but Sawadee just missed the mark. I ordered two lunch specials, drunken noodles with tofu and red curry for me and my girlfriend. They were both priced at $10 which is what I expected to pay from past experiences. However, one would expect to receive a full portion size for that price, but this was not the case. To my surprise, I opened up the container of drunken noodles to see that only half of the container was filled. Not only did the drunken noodles fall flat, but the red curry was packaged in a 12 oz (1 pint = 16 oz) container with a half pint of white rice. I understand that lunch specials come in a slightly smaller portion as compared to a dinner size, but this is just unacceptable. The two cups of soup that came on the side of our dishes were cold, I understand that many restaurants prepare some dishes in advance, but they did not even bother to warm those up for their customers. My recommendation to any prospective diners is to avoid this restaurant. Please visit other Thai restaurants in the surrounding area (Simply Thai or Sukhothai) and I promise you will leave with a better experience than you would at Sawadee Thai Cuisine.
Really good, tad expensive.
