Voted #1 best Thai restaurant in Santa Cruz 7 years in a row in The Santa Cruz Good Times.
Excellent service, amazing thai food, wonderful employees and wonderful ambience thanks to the employees. We arrived on New Years Day and got seated almost immediately.
Thai food quality was very well done. We got the curry dishes and those were exceptionally well made, especially since it's one of the very few Thai restaurants in the entire town of Santa Cruz. The spring rolls were VERY unique as there are spring rolls that are just filled with noodles, salad and other veggies. The spring rolls here were tastefully rich in greens and well balanced with protein and the sauce.
The ambience of the area is good. We usually don't mind how the restaurants look but the entire place was very well maintained, clean and organized.
Parking is extremely limited, maybe 7-8 spots if you're lucky. We parked around the block so it wasn't that bad at all.
Overall, great Thai food, excellent service, and would highly recommend!
This is our go to Thai Restaurant. On Sunday, we actually drove by another Thai restaurant, and just turned around and headed to Sawasdee. The place was busy, but the service as usual was excellent. We got all the attention we needed. We ordered the Fresh Roles, the Tom Kha soup, Green Curry with tofu and vegetables, and the Eggplant with Thai Basil. And all the food was fresh and delicious. We enjoyed ourselves and had a great time. We usually get to go, but it was good to be there and connect with the staff and other customers.
I'm surprised it took this long for me to finally try Sawasdee. They are undoubtedly one of the best Thai restaurants in town, with a wonderful indoor dining area and great service.
Almost everything on their menu can be made vegan which opens up more options for vegans and vegetarians.
My friend and I shared their fresh Spring Rolls, Green Curry Tofu, and Ginger Stir-Fry Tofu. On the side we had two bundles of sticky rice.
The spring rolls were amazing! A half order gave us two large pieces and they were filled with veggies including alfalfa sprouts, an ingredient not commonly found usually! The peanut sauce was 10/10.
We ordered spicy for both main dishes and boy, these were SPICY. I enjoyed the tongue lashing but be careful if you are sensitive to spice. Both were fantastic and complimented well with the sticky rice. Wish there was more tofu in both dishes but it was still a fabulous selection. I would get all of these options again in the future.
Service here was fantastic. Very friendly and made sure that our waters were filled especially after all the spicy food we consumed.
Food was hit or miss, pad see eww was great, but my seafood oyster sauce dish was rubbery and very bland. Parking was a nightmare. Prices were alright for the area, but I just wish it was more consistent in the quality 😕. Pad thai was ok, and they charged for a small side of rice that realistically should have been included with a curry dish.
My sister in law lives locally and loves this place! My husband said it was the best pad thai he has ever had. The service was great and they explained everything on the menu. They have a lot of gf options and can make most things vegan. This was my first thai experience and it was great. Everything tasted super fresh!
Delicious and fresh food, nice atmosphere

Food was super tasty, hit the spot.
Service was pleasant and quick.
Everything is delicious

Didn’t like the food much, unfortunately. Ingredients not great, bland curry, and it was pricey. Rice was not included.
Don’t ever try this restaurant, food were bad & same with the server,Complained to one of the male server about the The pad Thai for it was too sweet beyond normal flavor, satay peanut sauce was also too sweet, I’m Asian I’ve travelled to thailand many times, and I know authentic Thai foods, after hearing me the server just told me that we are in America which is prejudice for me.i’ve tried many Thai restaurants here in the US and they’re really good. This restaurant is a no no to go.
Great service. Staffs are very friendly. Food was really yummy . We had really good time here.
This place is special! The staff are soooo kind and attentive. Got the green curry and crab rice and it was soooo good. Will be back!
Delicious and good value.
We started coming here a few months ago after a friend recommended us to go. Since when we come back every week, my daughter loves the yellow curry! They usually seem busy, but there’s never a wait and they’re always very friendly. We enjoy the lunchtime special
Salmon chu chee is sooo good.
I have been coming here for years and I will never go anywhere else. I love pineapple fried rice but I don’t like pineapple and they were very understanding about getting me a pineapple fried rice without pineapple😂 10/10 will go again

Pretty decent food for being out by the sea
Duck curry was delicious. Felt like staff wanted me to wrap up while still eating.
Wonderful restaurant with very pleasant staff and yummy food.
Brought a bottle of wine. Outside of Thailand this is one of the best Thai’s we’ve had. Appreciate the family feel and the heavy portions of vegetables 👍🤜
Our server was nice, but she never checked back in with us. One dish was too salty (inedible) and we never had a chance to ask for it to be made again. The other 3 dishes were delicious. It took a long time to order and to get our check as well.
All good, a bit pricey tho. Pad Se Ew is kinda salty.
They were able to make all our food gluten free, which was nice. Pad See Ew is my favorite.
I love Sawasdee Soquel. I’ve been going here for years and the food is consistently good. The vegetables are always very fresh and the flavors are very tasty. I especially love their fresh springs rolls and drunken noodles!
Amazing family owned dining experience. I had a little bit of an upset stomach when I came in. Was served a very comforting noodle dish that actually helped. Very amazing waitstaff.
It was an okay experience. Food was not up to par, as someone with lots of experience with different asian cuisine. The curry was like soup, veggies were slightly undercooked. Pad see ew was like eating a dessert, way too sweet. Service was poor. Many people waiting, including us, and one table (seemed to be friends with manager or owner), received all their food before other people around them. Overall poor experience, will not be going back. Also they charge $5 for rice, just make it at home and save yourself $5.
Amazing pineapple fried rice, mango rice and panang curry! One of the best Thai places in the Bay area.
Have many vegan options (can make many items vegan except for deserts)
Ordered a red curry and drunken noodles. One of the best Thai places that I've been to in a while. They are able to make most dishes vegan, so that was a huge plus.
Best food in town.
Food is tasty but not the best thai I’ve had. Pad thai was a little lacking in ingredients and flavor.
The food wad so good there I highly recommend this restaurant!
Amazing and authentic thai food
Located in what looks like a house near a residential part of Capitola. Cute vibe, average food but best ever hot chili powder. Make sure you ask for the dry powder!
This place has good service but the food was average. Eggs Rolls comes with 5 pieces and it was probably the best thing I ate there. The Pad Thai was not my favorite and definitely lacking favorite. They cut very huge slices of meat into your food which is harder to eat.
Some foods are amazing and some are ok, definitly varies. More times than not it is great.
Ordered veggie drunken noodles and Spicy fried rice.. Both were very flavourful.. Service was great and all the staff was very friendly..
The food and service was amazing!
BEST thai food in town & they are catering our wedding! Dee has been so helpful and kind through the whole process ❤
My favorite Thai restaurant! Their Pineapple curry is second to none.
Mmmmm!! Yum! I'm very spoiled when it comes to Thai food. I've traveled all over and had some great eats! This is the best Thai restaurant south of downtown Santa Cruz. We loved the Penang Curry, Drunken Noodles and Thai spring rolls. Definitely a new favorite!! Also, there's a cheery vibe there. Good people 🙏
I had my food delivered. I've been wanting some good Thai food and this is the 1st time I've eaten at this restaurant. I recently moved to Capitola so I've been trying out a few places. Let me tell you Sawa's D is absolutely the best large quantity of orders. Everything perfect full of veggies not just water everything absolutely excellent. I will definitely be ordering from there again and again and again thank you.!!!!!
Loved the food! 🥘
Fabulous food and great service. What more can you ask for!
What a nice little restaurant! The flavors take me back to when I visited Thailand every month.
They default to mild spice, so if you are like me, you will want to ask for it hot, or ask for the spice bowls so you can add your own.
I'm partial to green curry and theirs was excellent. The fresh spring rolls are delicious too.
We will definitely be going back - often.
Excellent food, although slightly on the expensive site. The staff is always friendly and the takeout for their non-soup dishes are environmentally friendly. They have great spring rolls and pad tai.
Great place with excellent service , friendly staff and wonderful food!
Went there for lunch. At the fresh ginger; I chose pork with vegetables and the sauce had fresh ginger. Others in the group had green curry yellow curry spicy fried rice, all looked delicious. If you're coming with a group carpool, not a lot of parking spots.
tasty authentic Thai food. The seafood curry was great!
Great food
The food at Sawasdee is always good, no matter what you order, but when you're dining in you're paying for the experience as well. I can happily say that the staff and customers are as friendly as the food is good. You leave Sawasdee with an overwhelming feeling of happiness.
Best Thai food in the county. The Pumpkin Curry is especially tasty!
I liked it very much. One of us thought the vegetables in the curry weren't not cooked enough. Everyone else in the party enjoyed their meal.
Wine selection was good. Excellent service. Very good value.
I will go back.
팟타이가 달아요
We order take out from here monthly and always love it! The food is great and fresh-tasting, portions are generous, prices are reasonable and theyre always fast at making our orders. Favorites: tom yum soup, singapore noodles, drunken noodles, honestly any noodle dish.
Highly recommended it. The food is really delicious.
Great Thai cuisine. Great quality and very fresh. Highest recommendations from me.
This a great little Thai place. One is by Boardwalk and one here in small town Soquel. Tasty and decent price .
Authentic Thai food.. deeelicious! Super friendly and welcoming staff!
Great place to visit. I can't wait to eat my food! Looks like they work quick. Everyone gets their food very fast and the staff is very friendly!
Great Thai food!
Hidden gem in Soquel village. And a favorite of my coworkers. Fast friendly server and super yummy food
Having spent $120 on a takeout, buying meals that cost $15 > $17, found that the portions/meals are small meals, padded out with cheaper ingredients. E.g x1 meal at $17+ came with 3 thin slivers of chicken, and 2 small prawns!!! I will never eat from here again. This place should be ashamed of the size of its portions and how they are clearly cost cutting whilst charging premium rates.
We have not been back to Sawasadee in quite a while, and decided to try it again tonight. I remember the food is being much spicier, but I forgot to say medium when I ordered and I guess Mild is now the default. So, it was ok but not great. Mild green curry was very bland.
Ordered soup and just got broth nothing but liquid,
Best Thai food in town
Ordered take away. Impressed by every dish: fresh spring rolls, veggie yellow curry, veggie massaman curry, and chicken panang curry. Appreciated the environmentally-friendly take away practices: recycle carrying box instead of a plastic bag and no utensils unless requested. I’ll be back!
This place is usually very good or it can be mediocre. Tonight it was average. The pad ew had no spice and minimal flavor. The veggie pad Thai had some veggies that were almost raw, others were cooked perfectly. We still recommend this place.
Nom nom
Food is always great, I'm gluten free and they were really good about making sure all that I ate was gluten free. The service was slow and even though there were only two other people eating in the restaurant, they seemed a little frazzled and forgot to bring us some of our food. It all ended up at the table eventually though. My husband wanted very spicey food and said it was not hot enough but the flavors were very good.
Yum yum 🤤
I’ve only ordered delivery from here, so take that into account as you read this.
I’ve ordered the dumpling appetizer and my favorite, Tom Kha Gai soup, both of which are consistently pretty good. My other favorite, Pad Kee Mao, aka Drunken Noodles, is just not up to standard. Not using the correct noodles, not NEARLY spicy enough, even after requesting quite spicy. And, it’s just simply just not as good as others’ versions.
We’ve also had other dishes such as the eggplant basil, and really it just didn’t have the complexity, the layers of flavors, or even, enough basil to truly make it a basil dish. Everything was fresh and made with quality ingredients, it just didn’t “gel” into a truly interesting and flavorful dish.
I prefer the other local alternatives. I gave them a fair chance I think. You may like the simplicity and freshness, but I wanted more Thai flavor artistry and saucier-flair.
Very authentic thai cuisine with a funny, friendly owner. Brought my grandma here and she loved everything on the menu. The curry was amazeballs and we left feeling stuffed for the rest of the day
Note: ask for fish sauce and thai chillis with your pad thai!
Yummy yummy 😋
Appreciate the overall quality of the food and service. I do wish it was a bit more authentic with some of the traditional tick. I did add my own heat but the papaya salad usually has more fresh papaya and chili flakes. But I will definitely return and try more items.
I’ve been coming to this restaurant regularly over the past two years. Things have been good until recently. The quality has drastically changed, perhaps due to inflation or too many customers. First, the food becomes smaller. Then, the management becomes more chaotic over time. They’d give you the wrong order, wrong bill, or have you wait for a very long time, prioritizing takeouts over dine-in customers. While seeing another table leaving due to the long wait, I addressed my concern to the waiter because the time between our first fish and last dish is about an hour. He replies that some customers are cutting the line, and I need to calm down. I don’t know if he’s joking or what, but that indeed added more embarrassment to me in front of my guests. Whatever the reason - lousy management or cheap food - it’s one of the most unpleasant dining experiences I’ve had. Won’t be there again.
So delicious!!! The chicken satay, green & pumpkin curries, pineapple fried rice, tom yum soup, gyoza, drunken noodles are all wonderful!
This restaurant was unexpectedly good. I’ve never been and overall it was a really good experience. The prices are reasonable the service is incredible and very accommodating. They remade two of our dishes because they were too spicy for me. I was very appreciative. Great food! Definitely recommend.
Boba was hard but food was good
The Thai food was acceptable (nothing great). I thought the Pad Thai we had was very good, as were the crispy egg rolls. The Tom Kha was mediocre, and the Shrimp Clay pot was simply unacceptable. It tasted like mediocre stir fry that had been put into a clay pot for presentation only.
We had crab rolls, yellow-chicken curry, green-prawn curry, and sticky rice with mangos. The services was good, and the food was clean, really good. 👍🏼👍🏼

If you're going to here for curry, do yourself a favor and go around the block to Star of Siam Thai for instead. Sawasdee's red curry was watery, slightly transparent, and tasted like uncooked powdery spices. Im 99% sure it was watered down and they added a ton of powdered spices to compensate, a quick fix short cut that any home chef can detect. Star of Siam's red curry is Legit !! Creamy, herbaceous, spicy, flavorful and rich. Just how it's supposed to be. The service was way better too. The chef at Sawasdee asked for my feedback and I said the above. Then she began to fight me and argue on the feedback aggressively. If she really believes there's nothing wrong with her watery curry, then why ask for my opinion ? It was a waste of time. Never going back here
TLDR: Food was disappointing and didn't taste freshly cooked. If you have eaten authentic Thai dishes from a reputable Thai restaurant elsewhere, you're not going to enjoy the food experience here. If you have a refined taste for Asian food, this place isn't it.
My party of 6 and I were passing through town and decided to stop by for lunch before making our way up the coast.
The restaurant and service were a positive experience.
It is clean and well decorated. Staff are friendly and communicative.
The food, portions, and cost of dinning was a total let down and here is why.
On food alone, we spent over $160, which by the end, we all felt it was not worth it at all. The portions alone were small which wouldn't be a big deal IF the food actually tastes close to being freshly prepared and resembling what was described on the menu.
For example, we ordered the prawns hot soup, which was brought out without the burner candle, and was given the excuse that "it would be to dangerous for our large party" even though we were all within reach of the pot at the center. This wouldn't have been a problem if the soup was actually HOT, and not luke warm. We could tell the broth and vegetables were not boiled/cooked together because the vegetables were not completely blanched and lacked the texture of being cooked in the same pot. If you've cooked soup, you'll know exactly what I mean. It was like the broth was added to the chopped veggies, not the other way around.
Next, the meat. For example, our beef dishes contained the same cut of meat. There is no variety to the cut and preparations. The beef salad on the menu stated it was grilled beef. The beef served weren't grilled and was the exact same cut as the beef we gotten in the mix veggies and noodle dishes. The only difference was the sauce or seasoning that covered it. It lacked any texture and variety to the dishes. One dish basically chews like the other.
The rice, specifically, the sticky rice. Like come on! As I unwrapped it onto my plate, it fell apart like regular steamed white rice. Look, if you had decent sticky rice before, you'll know its short grained and real sticky. This rice was not that. This was not southeast asian sticky rice. I asked our server if this was sticky rice and if yes, what was the variety, because I have not been served this type of "sticky rice" at all the asian restaurants I have patronized. The server then tried to convince me this is "sticky rice" and it's the only rice he knows that is "sticky".
By the end, we left unsatisfied. None of the dishes have met our expectations for Thai food. If you're from an area where the asian community is dense, and you frequent their restaurants, especially if they're Thai, you're not going to like the food here. If you have a refined taste for Asian food, this place isn't it and you should look to dine elsewhere.
Very good Thai food
Ok please do not order form this location if you want decent food, this place is terrible anything fried is inedible. Do not get the spring rolls, even the vegetables are dry. It cost me 56$ for dry dumplings that are 5% sausage 95% greasy bread, sweet and sour chicken chunks that are dry to the bone, w/o the bone. And soup 😐. I called them to let them know how the food was and all they could say was “so sorry” “we’ll let the cook know” then they hung up. I shouldn’t have ordered a single thin after I noticed the restaurant was empty. All in all I pray nobody gives them any more money you will be very disappointed ☹️. Do not order from here.
Best Thai food ever recommended to stop and see for your self.
Delicious food and outstanding service!
Even if they are busy they do their best to be efficient. The food is impeccable, amazing, and fresh. I have had multiple different items and it’s delicious. Their fresh spring rolls, fried spring rolls, crab rolls, satay, all their curries, pad Thai, wonton soup, and pad se ew are the different items I get when I come here and they are so delicious and never disappoint. I’d say the one critique is when I get something with shrimp they only give you a couple of them so idk if it’s worth it to get anything with shrimp.
Went for take out around 2 PM. Lots of rushing around. Had yellow tofu curry. Lots of good vegetables. My husband had red curry with chicken. The vibes were very rushed. I will try it again.
My favorite place to pick up lunch inbetween restaurants. I highly recomment the pad thai. Serving sizes are great and if you are a light eater the to go foods can serve 2 meals.
I have been to many Thai restaurants in many countries, but this one is truly really good. Food good quality and flavor. Fast service.
Favorite Thai food in town! So yummy:)
Great food that's good for you...wow!
I wish the veg used were better, and the amount of plastic packaging is ridiculous but that's my fault for ordering takeout. Still a good bet for pad Thai and curry cravings.
Really nice service and good Thai food. I enjoy the fried noodle and a bottle of Thai beer. Will definitely visit again.
I had the Drunken Noodles and a Thai iced tea with coconut milk for lunch - great food and great service. I found a really nice new lunch spot!
Always the nicest people, in person and over the phone, even gave me a free bottle of hand sanitizer with my order. Things like this make you want to come back. Can't forget the food always hits the spot.
The pad Thai is off the chain
Ordered a very simple dish, managed to provide me with something entirely different. Comicle.
This place is just A-OK. We ordered the Tom Yum soup, calamari, yellow chicken curry, pad see ew, and the black bean dish. Tom Yum was lackluster. Calamari was chewy and the pairing sauce left much to be desired for (would’ve paired well with a Thai chili sauce!). Yellow chicken curry was disappointing. It’s consistency was pretty akin to water which contrasted highly with the undercooked vegetables. Please note that the curry does NOT come with rice. Highly unusual in my opinion…. Pad See Ew in a quick summary was a bit sweet. Black bean dish was probably the best out of the lot. Steer clear of the rest 🤙🏼
The service is awesome. The food was very good and spiced accordingly! I will be back!
Friendly service, very fresh ingredients and awesome ginger tea
Super great food and if you want really spicy ask for hot.
Edible, but definitely not recommendable.
I was having a really tough day, and so I decided to go sit at a table at Sawasdee for a late lunch. I arrived just as most of the other patrons were finishing their meals, and soon, the restaurant was quite peaceful. The service was attentive and kind, and I felt cared for. I absolutely loved the Jalapeno Fish, accompanied by a cup of Tom Kha and fresh Hot Ginger Tea. By the time I left, I was ready to face the rest of my challenging day.
The food is very good. We're lucky to have 3 good Thai restaurants nearby. My fave is still Bangkok West. The most flavorful.
Yum
Delicious food, even vegan or gluten free options. Green curry is my favorite with an order of noodles 10/10
For a small town Thai restaurant this place is actually very good. Service is excellent portions are large prices are reasonable and the food is delicious. I highly recommend it.
Never have to wait for your food if you do carry out orders. Not better or worse than other Thai restaurants in Santa Cruz the prices are right. Parking a bit constricted but worth it.
This place is so charming and the owners are delightful and attentive and the food was excellent. I will return often. I am sorry I didn't discover this place earlier.
Good and friendliest people you ever want to meet
Great menu. We placed a large order with lots of vegan faire. We really enjoyed the food. We will be back.
