Just back from Dublin and miss it.
Feels like everyone here in O'Neills Irish Pub knows each other.
Surprised the sommeliers knows how to make baby Guinness( we learned that this trip March 2023). But the Irish coffee her made is just like what I made.🙄
I am still learning how to walked in to an Irish bar who has no menu and just by a glance, how should I order.
Besides Irish coffee, I love everything here.

This bar allows dogs and does not take any responsibility for their behavior or aggression. After asking a dog owner to pet their dog, who was letting it freely walk around the bar, it lashed out and tried to bite me. Neither the owner or the bar tender took any responsibility for this behavior. Will not be going back and advise others not to attend until they change their policy.

In A Nutshell:

-When I used to live in downtown San Mateo, I used to come to O'Neills frequently.
-Its a small, cozy & friendly bar.
-If you love whisky/whiskey you will have no shortage of choices here.
-Finding a seat at the bar has been a challenge even when I recently came.

Overall, if you are catching the Caltrain & need a close bar this is a good one to check out.

When I got there it wasn't busy! Picked up, since the 49ers were playing! Ordered a burger and Garlic Fries from Jeffrey's Hamburgers, which is right next door to O'Neills Irish Pub and the delivered it to me! O'Neills a great place with fantastic service!

A block from the downtown train station, this is a great place to get a pint and a single malt on your walk home. Free wifi and quiet until mid evening (except for trivia night and big games) so it's also a great place to work from bar (as an alternative to work from home).

Typical Irish Pub I'm more like a sports bar lot of big TVs I didn't like that the bar counter was very short could barely fit 10 people I got a beer it was nice and cold Hoppy I ordered a sour whiskey I just didn't like how the guy made it I'm used to them just pouring the whiskey right over the ice and then fill in the rest with the sour mix but this partner decided to put it in one of those cocktail mixers and shake it which is fine but I don't like a water down drink and yes when you cool it down that way it does get water down slightly so it's already watered down then he gets a fresh glass filled it up with ice and adds his mixture into it which obviously afterward is going to taste more water down for 10.50$ the drink was very weak. All in all nothing very how going about this Irish Pub I've been to other ones where it's more fun are the only good thing is it's right next to the train station so you can buy your ticket have a couple drinks and then hop on your train to your house

Great place to overpay for a Guinness.

I didn't have any food here so that's why there's no waiting for that. But the service was excellent and the drinks were strong!

MICHELLE the bartender is not professional AT ALL AND EXTREMELY RUDE/AGGRESSIVE. She was drinking on the job. Which i was very shocked to see. She didn't even acknowledge us sitting there and continued to ignore us. She then tells us we have to leave when me and my friend were having a conversation, assuming we were talking about her when it had COMPLETELY NOTHING TO DO WITH HER. I MEAN I GUESS IF THE SHOE FITS RIGHT?! We were NOT being loud, aggressive or threatening her. Just simply having a conversation between 2 friends. There was no reason to kick us out just for having a conversation between the two of us. I am appalled at the customer service there. She is not good for business at all and honestly will probably bring that bar down. Her attitude from getgo was negative vibes. Maybe she's going thru some personal stuff but that's no reason to treat ur customers like that. I am shocked and I hope something will be done. SHE NEEDS TO BE FIRED. NOT GOOD FOR BUSINESS AT ALL! NOW I KNOW WHAT EVERYONE MEANS WHEN SHE RUNS PEOPLE OUT OF THE ONIELS. A LOT OF PEOPLE STOPPED GOING THERE BECAUSE OF HER. SHE WILL BE THE DOWNFALL OF THAT BUSINESS. MAYBE SHES NOT RIGHT IN THE HEAD OR SHES ON DRUGS BECAUSE THERE WAS NO REASON FOR HER ACTIONS TODAY. THIS IS ONE OF THE WORST EXPERIENCES IVE EVER HAD. ONIELS PLEASE DO US ALL A FAVOR AND GET HER OUT OF THERE! ITS NOT GOOD FOR BUSINESS. ALSO SHE HAD WHITE RESIDUE ALL OVER HER NOSE AND WAS VERY AGGRESSIVE. WHICH I THOUGHT SOMETHINGS NOT RIGHT WITH THAT PICTURE. I CAN TELL WHEN ITS DRUGS AND SHE IS DEFINITELY ON SOMETHING. YOU JUST DONT GO AROUND TREATING CUSTOMERS LIKE THAT FOR NO REASON. I WILL BE TALKING TO THE OWNER TO PERSONALLY MAKE SURE SOMETHING IS DONE ABOUT THIS. GREAT JOB MICHELLE BRINGING DOWN ONIELS!

Don't go here. They charged me $28 for a Macallan 12. I told the bartender that doesn't seem right. All he said was that's what's in the computer and a shrug.

Seems very welcoming. Bartender was amazing as well as the locals.

Mr. Jose, the KJ or DJ, who takes care of the karaoke is a great guy. He makes sure the next singer knows it's his/her turn, and everyone loves him!

Audrey was amazing but the bar had no pint glasses and we had to drink out of tiny plastic glasses, management needs to do something!

Honestly, as a beginning patron at this establishment, I found the size and friendliness of this Irish pub substantially welcoming 👍👍(that's a two thumbs up). Surviving the restrictions of covid, we all had to make allowances regarding dining. So getting there with some streets still blocked off in San Mateo(to better the businesses survival of our industries) it may take you a few twists and turns to get there so DON'T GIVE UP if your GPS tells you to take a turn and you find it has blockades... Just go another block or two down and you'll find yourself on the right street. Parking is a little strained... But the secret is there a little alley directly across the street from the front door and there's a number of slots avail at NO COST! On Tuesday nights they have an amazing kareoke event, but be prepared to get on the waiting list as my last experience it was pretty much packed... Which I dig cuz the audience participation was like a community. The bartender ALWAYS replaced your glass with a fresh chilled pint glass when you're trying one of their many flavors of draught on tap and was always on duty ready to serve his patrons. Friendly, warm and inviting. I take enjoyed myself and have returned since then. Prices are very fair. I suggest trying the Cali Squeeze on tap on a hot summer day. The essence of orange infused with a malt beverage is so refreshing on a warm day and doesn't seem so heavy when you're hot. I'll be returning.

Downside is people smoking right outside the front door and all the smoke just filling the bar. Not what my group and I wanted.

Fairly cheap drinks considering the area, but terrible mixology experience. I ordered an old fashioned with well whiskey and the bartender refused to make my request. The bartender Gabby said she's not going to go out of her way to make an old fashioned with cheap whiskey and let me and the other bar patrons know that what I just did was a faux pas (Gabby literally said this to everyone at the bar). So I said "ok, let's do bourbon then". Long story short(er), the drink was pure sugar and I couldn't taste the nicer bourbon at all (so I might as well have gone with the well whiskey). I ordered another and asked for her to make it less sweet. She poured the drink in the same glass on top of the partially melted ice cube and orange rind and gave me a cheap cherry this time instead of the nice maraschino cherry. I asked if she used the same glass for the 2nd drink and she said "is that a problem?" Will not be going here again.

We have been there while Quiz Night and it was quite crouded.
The Service was excelent, as we never run out of beer. Together with the Quiz night it was an excelent experience. I can suggest everyone around San Mateo to visit that place and Take a Beer and attend the quiznight.

I've been here a couple of times to spin a set and another time to check out my homie DJ Garcia Grande on the 1's and 2's. 👍🏾One of my friends from out of town likes this spot too!! The bar staff and the security are real cool peoples. They make sure you're well taken care of and help in any way they can. The customers come looking to party and have a good time! The vibe has been cool when I would visit. It's not often I come here but when I do it's always been lit! 🔥💃🕺🏽🎵🎶🍻🍷

The place has a family vibe. Karaoke was a bit too loud for my taste though.

We arrived early, no music, chill vibe and plenty of seats. As the night progressed, the crowd came in the the music played a wide selection of music. The drinks were a bit weak.

It’s nice to stop by a place where expectations are grounded in the name of the place. Want a beer and something a bit stronger? Then stop here grab a seat and enjoy the atmosphere with a nice quiet beer or invite your friends for a late nite adventure.

I ordered an Irish car bomb and the bartender said it was a deal breaker if I wanted to drop it in the glasses. So no bomb, he apologized but you know, it still was weird to have to deny that.

The best part was the roaches!! I saw 4 crawling on the bar, I wasn’t quick enough to take a picture but there where all over the top of the bar and god know where else.

This is a huge skip. I drank my Irish car “bomb” and left.

Hopefully the new owner can turn this place around because I was grossed out with the roaches and probably should’ve have had to pay for my drink.. but whatever

Great crowd and friendly energy. DJ Jerrod plays 1st and 3rd Fridays and takes requests! I love going out to dance here when he's playing.

Great spot to grab a drink and hang out. It was actually not very busy which I enjoyed. This place is typically packed and can get hard to order drinks sometimes. But the staff is always friendly.

Small, quiet and good service. Loved the fact that you can order food from the near by restaurants and have it delivered to the bar. German, burgers, sushi and desserts very close. I will be back.

This place is as close to "Cheers" as I've experienced. Inviting atmosphere, friendly patrons and AWESOME bartenders. Add good music and you have a recipe for a neighborhood gem!
