Authentic Thai Cuisine
Food was very filling and very unique! You get an entire set that includes the main course along with side pieces that can be mixed in or eaten separately as well as dessert. Tried both beef and chicken set and enjoyed them both very much. It was a well rounded meal and affordable at under $30 per person for what it was. We came on a rainy Sunday during lunch and it wasn’t packed at all.
So we tried this place yesterday evening and I was looking forward to tasting some yummy Thai food. Well the food was good nothing wrong there but it was not as Thai as one would expect. I would rename the place from Very Thai to Some Thai. The flavours are not what I expected from a very Thai place. Very westernized for sure. For example the north Thai sausage lacks depth and complexity. All the spice factors were missing. I think their sets are a good idea and make it easy to share. We had three sets for four and that was plenty. The desserts are a bit sad but we didn't come here for dessert. I do like the interior. Simple clean look, but it does have a draw back, the concrete floor and walls tend to echo and the place gets super noisy as it packs up. Kudos to the staff. There were only two on the floor and they kept the ball moving super efficiently.
Again on the food I wish they would add more depth to their flavors and go back to their roots.
The place has potential for sure
Excellent Thai restaurant. Great cosy atmosphere with excellent food. The menu comprises a series of set menus, each served with all the courses on a large tray. This is a fun place to eat, especially if you’re part of a larger group. The pork belly is excellent. Prices are very reasonable for the Bay Area, and you can have an excellent meal for about $30-$35. Highly recommended.
This restaurant is spacious and is a hidden gem.
The service is good - notice the lunch set menu now automatically includes dessert (at a higher price) so this may differ from the online version which shows dessert is optional.
The food is on the sweeter side. Maybe for a la carte you can customize a bit.
Overall a delightful experience to enjoy Thai food with friends!
I enjoyed the concept with a bento box prix fix concept from a selection of different set options. I chose the fish and shrimp set and all the flavors were fantastic. I do think the pricing is a little on the expensive side for the portions and wished it would be just a tad larger. Great service, easy to access even without reservations on a Thursday night after work.
Unique approach to food! Meals are served as a set of dishes with a protein in mind, to form a cohesive culinary experience. Loved how each component of the set complimented each other. There were so many ways to mix-and-match the meal and so many flavour pairings to experience.
They change the sets every so often, but this time, I had the pork belly set. All the food tasted great. The portions are slightly on the smaller end and I wish there was a bit more emphasis on the protein. The pork belly was (surprisingly) much more subtle in flavour than the other components. (Especially the salad with its sharp acidity).
All that said though, I had a great time. Service was excellent and I got seated quickly since I was here close to opening time. Would still recommend making a reservation just in case though.
The location is in an alley and not the most inviting, but I'm definitely looking forward to my next visit and you should be assured that your first visit will be great!
Really great flavorful fresh food. Love the bento box style too. And such great service! These folks really went out of their way to help when I left my passport at the restaurant just before leaving for a trip. Shows the commitment that they have to their customers which also shines through in their delicious food. Thank you!

Love it! tucked away in alleyway. Interior is spacious and fun. Food sets are great value, u get a bit of everything, from soup to salad, main dish, mix grains then dessert. Delicious! Must try!

Food was good. Service was very bad. Practically dumped our order on the table, knocking over things even as we were trying to help move things around. Didn't ask if we needed anything else which was surprising because we didn't order much and hadn't ordered dessert or coffee. Just brought the machine to pay with without a word. Didn't ask us how the food was, everything ok? Nothing. The restaurant was only 10% full at that time. Seemed like the waitress wanted us out of there. She was much nicer to the next table. Rac ist? Will not be returning.
I really enjoyed lunch here. The peanut chicken lunch was great, especially the butternut squash that came with it. The waitress was attentive and friendly even though she was finishing up opening the restaurant. Great, fresh food, great service, and quaint atmosphere at the end of an alley off Kearny.
The set meals are a great deal and perfect for a dinner to go!
Absolutely recommend! Great food and ambiance!
I tried beef set. Most items were spicy but good

Great place. Great location. Really good for business lunch spot. The place is suit for proper lunch where each person can enjoy their own lunch set.
Not your typical Thai food finds in the US. The flavors and spices really interesting . Will come back and try another set for sure.
We were made to wait 45 minutes for our order, at which point we asked them to cancel it. They agreed but also told us very aggressively not to ever come back. Well don’t worry we won’t. Plenty of Thai restaurants in the city.
Very interesting Thai food. Everything i tried was very good. Shared plates so we could have a little of everything.
They calculated tips by after-tax amount on the receipt and the least was 18%. I didn’t want to “tip the tax” so I recalculated and wrote down the total. THEY CHARGED MORE THAN I WROTE without noticing me. I found out that in my banking app. They still charged 18% after tax amount. This is CHEATING. Never come again!
Very bad service. We ordered food and waited 30 minutes. We followed up twice and were told they were working on it and handling the orders before ours. After the last follow-up, we heard that they had lost our order ticket
A great experience! Strong yet balanced and complimentary flavors and a fun, set menu. An amazing gem!
Exceptional in every way!
Food was tasty. However the welcome was poor, she really did not want me there. Service then by another waitress was ok
Generally I don't like Thai. In particular, I don't like Thai curry.
But hot dam this place is phenomenal. Without going into detail, I'll put it this way: you can eat to live or live to eat. If you subscribe to the latter, this place is for you. I have had very few meals that are meticulously planned and curated to make flavors come alive in magical ways. I'm not trying to be weird about this. But it's the truth and you should absolutely give this place a shot.
Also worth noting that the menu is curated as "sets" similar to in Japan. If you're unfamiliar with it, think how American Japanese restaurants offer 2-4 bento sets—you order the whole course, not individual dishes.
They have individual prix fixe meals so everyone gets a great selection. The flavors are excellent. The sausage appetizer was tasty.
TLDR: interesting set menu but lacking a bit
I ordered the vegetarian lunch set to go and when I took out, the dessert was missing. The squash was just right, with great flavor and not too sweet but the tofu itself was really lacking. It was just cubed up tofu with a slightly sweet sauce on it, really not an entree to me. I really enjoyed the three types of grains and the tom kha soup. As for the price, the meal was on the bigger side but it was still over $20 for lunch which is a bit much for me
This restaurant is spacious and is a hidden gem.

Very tasty, every dish
Great food. Very different thai experience so we definitely enjoyed it a lot. Went for my birthday because I wanted to try something different and it definitely stood up to the mark.
We got the chicken set and fish and prawn set. Loved the papaya salad. Also had the mango and coconut pudding. I liked the coconut pudding better because I usually don't prefer coconut flavored things but this was surprisingly good.
Great food, spicy.
Do not order online . They do not process or acknowledge orders online . I showed up at the restaurant and had to wait an additional 15 plus minutes after placing my order. Extremely lame experience
Essen ist mega *****

Preis/Leistung stimmt auch
Loved it. Went there for set lunch over the weekend and we had a good lunch without the working crowd that you'd normally see on weekdays. Thanks for the great food.
Our server was the most kind and devoted person that we could have. Was my sister birthday and he did all in his hands to made a very special and unforgettable moment.
The food was exquisited, the menu is made to make you feel freshness and a explosion of flavors.
Go there and ask for "Best" the very best server ever.
I was in town for a conference and stumbled accross this place. It seemed sketch walking into the alleyway to get there andcwe almost turned around. This place turned out to be the highlight of my trip and I recommend it to many others at the conference. I will be back!
Truly incredible dinner here - it was my birthday and they were so sweet to me. You get a remarkable quantity of food with the dinner sets (~5 individual dishes plus dessert for ~$20)! I got a vegetarian seasonal set and it was so delicious and featured some beautiful local seasonal produce. The restaurant is super cute inside and they have Singha! Can’t recommend enough :)
Very good Thai in a nice setting.
Highly recommended
We walked-in after a conference and luckily there was bar seating. This place is tucked away in a small alley that we passed up, but it’s such a cutee restaurant! The aesthetics are great and elevated. I’m sad I was too hungry and forgot to take photos of my plate. The staff were super friendly and personable, often checking up on us.
I had a Thai tea and the Seasonal Set 1 with Ribeye and Crab! It was soo good :) The ribeye was juicy and succulent. The crab was refreshing. The different rice really complimented the mains with a refreshing salad and hearty brussel sprouts. I fell in love with the hot sauce we asked for (wish I could buy a jar to take home ). It was topped off with a comforting mango pudding—def would come back again!
Hed Very Thai is a great spot for lovers of Thai cuisine. With a short yet dynamic menu that changes regularly, offering sets of small plates that allow you to sample a variety of flavors. The place’s design is good, and although the service is limited, the staff is friendly. If you’re looking for an authentic Thai experience, Hed Very Thai is an excellent choice, considered by OpenTable as one of the best Thai restaurants in the Bay Area.
By the way, even though the dessert doesn't look very good, it was delicious!
Nice understated stylish interior. Well spaced tables. Order 3 sets menu: chicken, chicken protein, fish and shrimp, all were delicious. They didn’t have the Isaan sausage which was very disappointing. But we ordered Porkbelly with Brussels sprouts which was ok.
We walked in for dinner and were warmly welcomed to a cute table. When we arrived, there were only a few tables occupied, but by the time we left, the restaurant was full.
The food was delicious, and the ingredients seemed to be of high quality. All the staff members were very friendly, and the atmosphere was great. The restaurant was clean and neat. I would definitely recommend this place.
Hidden gem in the FiDi! I’ve been a dozen times and never had anything but incredible food and service. I’ve brought large groups from all across the world and everyone has enjoyed the authentic cuisine!
If you aren't leaving five stars, you don't know food, and especially not Thai food. This place is divine.
4 stars for their adorable and healthy lunch sets. I ordered their $19.95 veggie set, which came with a Thai coconut mushroom soup, spicy papaya salad, spicy tofu salad with tomato, butternut squash, and 3 kinds of rice. I liked the butternut squash the most. We also ordered the $10 brussel sprouts, which were quite good. Dessert is an optional $4.
They also offered seasonal sets at a higher price point, around $35. Ambiance is great. I would return!
Food and atmosphere were great! Just like having a flight of beer but with Thai food! Hard to believe they are located at the end of an alleyway but worth it! Our server was pleasant but service was subpar in my opinion. We had to serve our own water, she never asked if we had eaten there before so no recommendations/suggestions were made, after ordering we realized we had ordered the same salad with our meals as our shareable appetizer but the server never warned us of this, some menu items offered different salads with your meal but it’s not super obvious on the menu — server never offered clarification on this, when payment was due she didn’t inform us if we had to go up to the front to pay or she would come by with a machine. Other than the mediocre service from our waitress, everything else was great!
More like a 4.5 rating. Love the concept of set meals especially for a solo traveler like me because I get a bit of everything. I have been in situations where one entree is too big for me, so their concept allows me to have soup and veggies. The food tastes authentic, but the papaya salad was a little too spicy for me that I didn't enjoy it. Otherwise, I hope they open up more spots across the city and hope they add more meal sets on their menu for variety.
Nice Thai restaurant with post-industrial design. Recommended for a brunch. I would return with pleasure.
Amazing Thai food!!!!
I've had a hard time t
+ A set meal helps bridge the divide from Thai dining with multiple (large) dishes to American where each person selects their sides in advance.
+ Chic looking place.
+ Prompt and courteous staff, with just a few managing all the tables.
+ The celery salad with shrimp was surprisingly not bad! I saw that as someone who doesn't care for it, yet managed to eat all of the celery.
+ Sets are filling
-- Incredibly loud when it starts to get full. When I was there for dinner with my wife, it was less than half full and fine, but by the time diner was served, it was full and we had to tell to hear each other while sitting at a little 2-person table. It wasn't music, just the reverb from everyone talking made it louder than eating in the middle of street in Bangkok.
- Sides for the sets taste meh to me, but maybe they needed to tailor it to locals preferences.
(Good) food presentation, 4 items for a $20 lunch, good flavors, attractive waitress. (Bad) Protein content being very low (est, 10g) was a big negative. Flavors not "very thai" but still good
Unique approach to food! Meals are served as a set of dishes with a protein in mind, to form a cohesive culinary experience. Loved how each component of the set complimented each other. There were so many ways to mix-and-match the meal and so many flavour pairings to experience.

The location is in an alley and not the most inviting, but I'm definitely looking forward to my next visit and you should be assured that your first visit will be great!
This is a great value, and a relaxing dining experience tucked away in a dingy alley downtown.
There are some a la carte appetizers, but dinner is prix fixe - a "set" that is centered around a protein (beef, chicken, fish, vegetarian) but comes with about 6-7 dishes total, including dessert. Regular set is $25; specials are $38. We ordered an appetizer to start, which was SO GOOD (brussell sprouts and pork belly), but there is so much food is in the set meal we were really stuffed. Good selection of nonalc bevvies, wines by the glass, but only one beer (Singha!).
Room is really lovely oasis in an otherwise dingy alley downtown. Service was a little rushed - seems to be just their standard approach -- which is great if you are trying to get in an out but if you want to not feel pushed out suggest you be very clear about not wanting everything on top of each other, eg, they brought out our main set almost immediately after the appetizer, and the dessert while we were still eating dinner (?) - I actually told them to take the dessert back and serve after we were completely done with dinner.
Very nice place tucked away in San Francisco. We asked a local where a good lunch place would be and she recommended this outstanding restaurant. Luckily she told us where it was because it was literally tucked away in a corner. Service was great and how they served their meals was exceptional on a ridden platter. I sincerely recommend you try this place out for lunch.
I had been looking forward to trying Hed Verythai for a few months after reading about it from a local food critic. I was able to attend a special pop-up preview menu of Hed 11, a new restaurant concept inside the Kimpton Hotel in Japantown coming soon.
With 11 courses, there was a wide variety of dishes with a general foundation in Thai cuisine, but incorporating Japanese and French touches such as breading and caviar.
Right from the start, the oysters on a half shell had a crispy garnish with slivers of red pepper, which provided a good amount of kick. They were clean, cool and flavorful. I have to say that my favorite was the crisp catfish salad with green mango. The catfish was only incorporated in the flavor of the crispy mound without the texture, which was very interesting. The beef curry with Thai pepper was also a favorite of my group. The rest of the menu is below.

This place has been on my list for a while, and it turned out great! Our party of 5 (4 adults one toddler) ordered 3 sets which was the right amount as we still had two boxes of leftovers.
We tried the chicken, pork, and veggie set. There wasn’t a single thing that wasn’t tasty! The entree, salad, soup, side dish, dessert - every thing in a single set great and goes well together. Plus you get to try so many different flavors and textures. Highly impressed with the quality of food as well as the service.
I love Thai food in general but this place is very special and well worth checking out.
Great food. One of the best Thai places.
Friendly staff.
It’s ok!
I went here with coworkers and we all felt like this restaurant was a great find. I had the chicken and glass noodles plus a Thai tea cocktail. Everything was deliciously flavorful. The service was fantastic. The environment was very chill with a lot of great conversation all around.
This place has the best vibes - hidden at the end of a short, gross alley. We got a Set 02 Pork Belly and a Set 03 Chicken. Not only was each little dish so tasty, but having little sets let us share and try 6ish different dishes at once (rather than only being able to share 2-4 large dishes and missing out on others).
Also, I love when my food doesn't touch.
I was absolutely stuffed after having a dinner box set! I ordered the Chicken & Glass Noodle Valentine's Day special set which was $37, as well as Thai tea. There was a good amount of spice in all the items, the veggies tasted fresh (Brussels sprouts and strawberry salad), and the soup had a good amount of chicken. The glass noodles with pork were flavorful and plentiful despite the presentation in small bowls. However, I think the regular chicken box set would have been a far better deal. For $14 extra, I didn't feel I got my money's worth with the Valentine's special. Plus, I think the curry in the regular chicken set would have paired well with the rice, which was a little dry and could have benefited from a rich sauce versus the clear broth in the Valentine's Day set.
I did enjoy the ambiance of the restaurant which had some nice nooks and corners to enjoy your meal with breathing room. Service was prompt as well so I had a good experience overall for a weeknight dinner. I would go back and try another set from the regular menu for lunch or dinner.
Loved it, definitely will go again. Delicious food, served in a unique manner. Instead of ordering individual plates or family style entrees, you order a set of small dishes that are surprisingly very filling!
I’d recommend making a reservation as the dining room is on the smaller size.
The food was okay, I wish it had more flavor. I really liked the concept though of getting to try multiple dishes, just wish there was more paza to it.
Can't recommend this place enough. In the heart of the financial district, in an alley off Kearny, the sets of food you get were delicious. You won't find pad thai here but you won't want it after going here.
The vegetarian "set" included coconut curry, marinated tofu, roasted eggplant, papaya salad (YOU SIMPLY MUST GET IT!), a bowl of three different types of rice, and a mango custard-ish dessert (which I liked more than the coconut one, which was super subtle). What have I been doing, ordering anything except these items?? The sets cost $24 before tax and tip, but very worth it for a special occasion or unique business lunch.
I went at 1 PM, and even though I was one of two parties in there, service was a little slow, but that's also because the restaurant closes in the afternoon to reset for dinner.
We went here for a sunday lunch and It was delicious. Food is well proportioned, well made and clean tasting. Only asian cuisines can do justice to vegetarian food. The veggie set was amazing, especially the mushroom soup. Ambience is super cosy, not so loud music and a general calm vibe. Service on the day of was good. Not the usual unattached, uninterested californian service. I wish it was a tad bit less expensive because tea, lunch + dessert was 70$ for two people. But overall food wins!
A hidden gem!
The food was great. Tasty, generous portions, nicely presented, and excellent value.
Minimalist, unfussy interior is instantly relaxing, and our wonderful server Viola did a great job of looking after us from a warm and smiling welcome when we arrived, with efficient and friendly service throughout the meal, checking to make sure everything was to our liking (which it definitely was...).
We will be back next time we are in San Francisco.
Great food and loved the format., The environment was not super enjoyable. It’s a fairly small room. It was beyond hot in there - our whole party was sweating. Then, it was so noisy we were having to yell across the table at each other. Not a fun night. It seemed like a lot of the noise was coming from the people waiting for a table standing in the middle of the room.
Really love the SETS of food you can get, where all the food items are pretty complimentary to each other. It creates varied yet cohesive taste pallet for every “set” of dishes. I got the curry set and the spicy shrimp salad (nice that you have SOME customizable choice here) along with the coconut pudding - which was my favorite part. The ambiance could use some work - high ceilings and good decor but a bit bare bones. Service was great and servers were very nice. Would definitely come here again!
Their sets in the menu are good for one if you're very hungry. It can be shared with two people also if an appetizer is ordered too.
Mushroom coconut soup is flavorful and warm. I really liked their idea of serving three types of rice. Chicken curry is delicious and slightly spicy. Papaya salad was refreshing too. Their slaw was very spicy and crunchy.
The service is fast and the ambience is cozy.
Fantastic food, and you get variety as you order a whole set of dishes. And all of this for 20ish.
food is exceptional, and the servers are the best ❤️
Overall disappointing experience. We were hoping to love this spot given its location and unique set meal take on Thai food.
Largest issues were around service. It was clear they were short-staffed. two people ran front of the house and weight staff and runners. This wouldn’t always present a problem, they didn’t really check in between ordering and finishing, but we had an issue where our appetizer did not come out when the other dishes had come out. It took us 10 minutes before we could even make contact with one of the servers to ask about it, and then it took another 15 minutes after that for the appetizer to arrive. They made some excuse about it being backed up due to the wok/fryer but it seemed like they probably forgot about it and fired it when we asked
Food wise, there were some dishes that were solid: duck curry from the holiday special was the highlight. The pork belly appetizer was very well flavored but a little too chewy. Satay and papaya salad were average, and a butternut squash & egg dish was very bland
Probably will not return here and will continue to hunt for interesting places in FiDi
Excellent experience
I ordered veggie set and everything on the plate tasted good. Also, amazing place for dates
Great place, amazing food. Like everything we had was fantastic! It was great that they were able to accommodate our bigger group!
On a Friday night my group of 3 made a reservation via OpenTable just an hour before we came to dine. It wasn't crowded it anything when we arrived. Due to the location of this restaurant it might be hard to find parking on normal days, so heads up.
We ordered the set meal - you can get fish, chicken, beef, pork, or veggie. We got chicken, beef, and pork. They don't take a long time to come out and they were very aesthetic and unique. It's essentially a tasting menu.
It might not look like a lot, but it will be very satisfying. Their tom yum stood out to me (in my chicken set). Overall loved the vibes and service here.
I could see this place being a great date spot too. Hope you enjoy!
This place is a solid five stars. The food is amazing and it’s very affordable. Service is great too! I wanna go back here to try the other sets.
This place has insanely good value. There are 6 options for different tasting menus where you get 6 VERY good courses and a great amount of food for such a good price. Everything was delicious, the service was great and the atmosphere was excellent. Might be the best bang-for-buck dining experience in SF!
I recently dined at a this Thai restaurant that exceeded my expectations. The food was not only delicious but also featured an abundance of fresh vegetables. It's a perfect spot for those who enjoy trying a variety of dishes. I highly recommend it for a flavorful and veggie-packed culinary experience.
A friend introduced me to this fantastic little spot. Great quality food, friendly and warm service, minimalist yet authentic decor.
Chicke skewers we’re juicy and delicious, pork belly was scrumptious, and the eggplant is fantastic.
Highly recommend the Thai iced tea!
Amazing place!
Came here for an early weekend lunch and the place was already half full by the time we left~
Set meals may seem small but portion wise they’re actually Incredibly filling - on top of them being delicious of course.
We did not get to try any of their drinks however, but I definitely will next visit.
Pork belly dish was sweet Instead of savoury… which is still tasty but wasn’t what I wanted (I should’ve read the ingredients more closely).
Overall, a well balanced, quick and healthy, hearty meal with little effort in decision making. Will return.
Beautiful restaurant down an unsuspecting alley.
Their menu offers different spreads based on the protein, offering a great variety of flavours, textures and aromas. Not exactly traditional Thai — definitely a bit Americanised but delicious nonetheless.
My server was so sweet and lively — really reminiscent of genuine Thai hospitality!
Would recommend for Lunch and Dinner (:
You get a bunch of little foods all at once on a tray for a reasonable price. My favorite was the main curry. The rest were okay, but fun to try. I wish they sold fresh young coconuts like other Thai places.
Great place for business lunch or hangout with friends!
This has become one of my favorites in the city. I appreciate the menu concept and it’s simplicity. The food is exceptional and changes slightly as the seasons change. I feel warm and welcomed, as if I’m eating at a friend’s place.
Rude to blackfamilys get people car towed and tickets food ok not helpful looks out the window every five minutes like nobody else work next to there restaurant it’s not ok
a very hidden gem in San Francisco! We went back in February, shortly after they first opened and I’ve never had Thai food this good except for in Thailand. I would HIGHLY recommend.
Excellent variety for the price, and all together it makes for a generous quantity. We could barely finish our dinners, and enjoyed all of our plates included in the set dinner
JADE ❤️🥳
I loved everything about this restaurant! They specialize in Isan-style Thai food, which is what I grew up eating at home. All entrees come in sets, so you pick your ideal protein and everything else is picked for you! For drinks, they were sold out of the Longan Iced Tea - so I went for the Dirty Thai Tea Cocktail. Very refreshing and not too strong.
My choice was the FISH SET and everything was phenomenal. I mean this with the greatest praise - every aspect of this set tasted like my mother's cooking. From the funky Yum Woon Sen, to the sweet Butternut Squash, to the fragrant Red Curry... I was enjoying every bite! The fish in the curry was SO TENDER and just melted. The combination of 3 rices was a nice touch too.
I also tried the Pomelo & Orange Salad, which was packed with lemongrass, fish sauce, and HEAT. Those oranges were so sweet too. Very refreshing salad, but I wouldn't say it was worth $6 extra in the set.
One downside would be the slow service, but they were clearly understaffed with just one server on a weekend. Can't complain too much! There's also an automatic 20% gratuity for groups of 5+ people.
We love most of the dish. Personally love the beef, but we think they should take more time cooking the eggplant ( we prefer soft eggplant more) and feel the glass noodles are too sour (but guessing this is authentic Thai Style). Definitely love the atmosphere, but it’s kinda too loud around 12:30-1:30. It’s kinda hard to hear what others saying, and have to increase my volume to take to my friend. Totally understand it’s lunch time, so I would suggest people who likes to eat in low volume before 12 or after 1.
Got hives from the shrimp
Super rapport qualité prix. Savoureux et délicieux, on s’est régalés ! :) Après 1 semaine à NYC à enchaîner les burgers … on a carrément apprécié cette parenthèse saine et exotique ! On reviendra !
Great atmosphere for a business lunch but also very slow service. Wish there were better veggie options with protein as a main
If you are a veggie this isn’t the place for you. Veggie set menu was not nice at all. It didn’t have have any gravy or curry option . We turned up eating plain rice. The soup and glass noodles had a distinct fish flavor. No one came to check on us after the food was served (which by the way took 50 mins).
Loved it! Presentation was stellar and each dish's flavor was incredibly unique. Not usually much of a fan of eggplants but it was really well made, and the main dish was very good as well.
The serving is also really filling for the price. Would definitely go back again.
We were staying at a nearby hotel and looking for a nice place for dinner. Came across very thai and decided to go on a whim. The staff was friendly and we were seated quickly. Not having had this style of cuisine our server explained and made recommendations. The beef set 1 and shrimp set 3 was what we went with. Every part of the meal ended up delicious and it is clear that a lot of thought and care goes into each dish and combination. Would definitely recommend. The ambiance and decor of the restaurant is nice though it can get a bit loud inside.
This place is kind of tucked away near the back of an alley, and not really noticeable if you're not already looking for it. It is worth the trip though!
The meals come in sets, so you can get beef/shrimp/chicken/veg/fish. I ended up getting the beef for $28 and it came with 3 kinds of rice, the beef curry, eggplant <- highly recommend this one, squash, papaya salad, and a pudding of your choice for dessert. Everything was really delicious, but like I said.. I think you should get the eggplant if it's available with on of your choices. Also go for the coconut pudding, I thought it was the better choice between the three.
Fantastic moment at Hed Verythai. The service was great, the waitress was so kind, sweet and provided such good recommendations.
It’s all set set menus, you just have to choose whether you want meat or seafood or vegetarian.
It’s really cool to be able to try many different small portions of Thai cuisine.
Everything was really good, tasty especially that coconut milk soup. Be careful some of the dishes may be a little spicy like the papaya salad.
We also had the iced tea, it was just incredible.
Highly recommend!!! We will definitely go back.
Ate here solo today. Very welcoming, and happy atmosphere. I went for the ‘fish set’ and Thai ice tea. Food was $20, this is insane VALUE. I work nearby so I scouted it out today. I can’t believe the few doom and gloom reviews of this place, especially regarding price. Some people are just miserable.
I inquired about booking for my work group, and was advised to make a reservation and told we are more than welcome and they can accommodate any group sizes. The server also gave me a menu to take. Delighted I found this place, really brightened up my Saturday, and I was full leaving.
I tried their Dirty Thai Tea cocktail, Chicken Satay, Kaosoi Nua - Northern style curry with beef, and the Mango Homemade Pudding for dessert. The Dirty Thai Tea cocktail was a standout with its perfect balance of Contratto Bitter, Thai tea, and lime. The beef curry set came with yellow curry with beef, eggplant, butternut squash with Thai basil, spicy papaya salad, and a bowl of mixed jasmine rice, brown rice, and rice berry. The braised beef in the curry was tender and the spiciness level was perfect for my taste. If you're a fan of spicy food, I recommend asking for their spicy sauce, which features Thai green chili, parsley, and mashed garlic. It adds an extra kick to the dish.
If I had one recommendation for this place, it would be to save your money and NOT to come! After seeing multiple social media posts about this place, I gathered a group of 6 friends to try it out.
I opted for the vegetarian course ($23) while my friends opted for the chicken and other meats (more expensive). Interestingly, the vegetarian set contained an entree with dried shrimp. The vegetarian course came with:
-Tom Kha Soup: Horribly underwhelming. I have never had a Tom Kha soup that lacked flavor, acidity, or spice.
-Papaya Salad: Ok, pretty standard but didnt taste fresh.
-Tofu with Glass Noodles: The tofu was barely marinated and the glass noodles had an awful lime juice.
-Choice of Pudding (Coconut): The toasted flakes on top were bitter and the flavor of the coconut pudding was subtle. This was OK.
Note: I opted for a double portion of tofu instead of the eggplant that it generally comes with. But I was genuinely confused what vegetarian entree was supposed to be eaten with the three portions of rice (felt excessive for that many grains) as neither the tofu noodles nor eggplant had any curry to it.
The server also kindly gave me some tom yum soup but that unfortunately became the joke of the evening as we all sampled it and passed it around describing it as salty dishwasher soap and was the worst thing I tried that evening and potentially ever with Thai food.
Friends described the chicken as bland, tough, and unappealing. The butternut squash was described as unseasoned mush and there was a general consensus that the tom kha soup could have been done without.
Overall, I am not sure where all the positive reviews come from but take it from someone who gets a smile on their face from food -- this is not it.
Also, please take a look at the picture of the meal AFTER people were done. We all went to go get some yummy pizza slices after. We did get a 40% discount on the food after speaking to the server that night as all of us strongly felt that we had been duped. But if the restaurant has to apologize and discount their food, take that as a sign as quality of the food.
Hidden away like the best gems this place exceeded my expectations. It's not like any of the fast food Thais I've had before. It seemed really authentic. Unfortunately I forgot to take a picture of the food before I started because it was beautifully prepared and presented.
Incredible food and excellent service!
really great food! good value at $20 for a huge tray of food.
From the first time and I walked into HED verythai I felt a sense of home there.
The people who work here are amazing from the owner (pictured in front of restaurant) to the serving staff, cooks, etc.
The food is absolutely amazing, if you miss visiting this restaurant and enjoying the food, atmosphere, and people you will have come visiting San Francisco for the best experience that is offered here!
I hope I see you at HEF verythai!
My name is Michael Davis and my favorite place on San Francisco is HED verythai!
I really like coming here! Their sets are quite good and really cute, though I do like some of the sets better than others.
