Sapp Coffee Shop Thai Restaurant
About Us

Hollywood’s Original Thai Joint emerges in a Motel in the 1970’s. Sapp Coffee Shop was a humble little joint as one of the first known shops in shops embracing alternative culture and the LGBTQ community. Our commitment to accepting ALL has been a major part of our longevity in Hollywood and to this day we stay true to our roots.
This little Thai joint got its debut in a gritty, classic Hollywood Motel as a Coffee Shop by day and a Thai food joint by night. The owner of the Motel agreed to rent the small diner to Sapp as long as they served a classic American breakfast to tourists and a cup of American coffee.
Sapp quickly became an institution in Hollywood for serving authentic Thai dishes as well as good old-fashioned breakfast.

Very good boat noodle. Me and my girlfriend come back a lot for it.

This is one of my favorite meals I have ever had in my life. The duck soup and jade noodles were amazing!

Diner Review №5

Boat noodles are decent, could use a bit more seasoning. Sticky rice is good desert. Parking is tight though

Diner Review №6

Can’t believe this was only my first time trying Sapp! I tried the Boat Noodle Everything and it was so rich and hearty. I also tried the Jade Noodles. Service was quick and friendly!

Diner Review №7

非常小众也非常地道的碳水馆子。船面吃过一次就念念不忘。更优秀的冬阴功汤粉汤头浓郁,吃起来暖乎乎的。蟹肉炒饭味道也很不错哦

Diner Review №8

Great place for boat noodles if you are into this type of Thai food. Usually harder to find outside of Thai town. Friendly service and savory food.

Phenomenal food + inviting atmosphere
I had the Boat Noodle with everything
This was the perfect blend of savory and refreshing. The blood base broth is rich and hearty, with a clean vinegar finished complemented by an assortment of offals and tender sirloin strips. Combined with the slight chew of the rice noodles, this dish offers the best blend of spicy, sour, and richness
Imagine a blend of bùn bò Huế and dinuguan

Hollywood's original Thai eatery that is still amazing to this day.

I first dined at Sapp in 2013 and fell in love with their authentic Thai food. I absolutely love their Jade Noodles (made from egg and spinach) that comes with duck and crab. It's their signature dish.

I dined at Sapp again in 2024 (two times). This time I tried their Boat Noodles which were spectacular; I'm southeast Asian, and I could taste all the southeast Asian flavors in the broth.
Honestly, everything on their menu looks so freaking good. I don't think you can go wrong with anything here.

I also love their Thai Coffee and Thai Tea; you can't go wrong with either.

If you're a foodie, you definitely need to check out Sapp!

FYI: Anthony Bourdain has eaten here.

The food, the treatment from the owner, is just 6 stars in my book the flavors is just something I haven't had In a long time. I can not describe the quality of the flavors, just amazing. Best Thai food in los angeles.

Diner Review №15

In a city full of trendy spots with little soul this place is the exact opposite. The vibes are immaculate. It feels like a place Bourdain would love and once you try the food so will you

The Jade noodles are great. You have to get them. And the owners were kind enough to show us how to mix them. Make sure you do that

The Chinese broccoli with crispy pork was SO GOOD. Flavors popping everywhere and such a great mix of spices

Most of all these guys treated the customers like family. Even this kid who kept damaging Halloween decorations.

Eat here because it’ll feel like a home cooked meal with new friends

Literally the best and most delicious Thai restaurant that I’ve ever been to.

The food is unbelievable, the staff is so nice and hospitable, and the prices are great.

I highly recommend.

Diner Review №21

Honestly one of the best all around Thai restaurants in Thai town. Lots of places have one or two specialities they do well but everything here was very good. Friendly service too!

Sai Oua and Jade noodles were great, morning glory helped round out the meal vegetable wise too.

Diner Review №22

Absolutely delicious first meal at Sapp today—ordered Thai Tea, Everything Boat Noodle, Jade Noodle, and Spring Rolls. The ambience was relaxed (lots of 70s music playing!) and the waiters were very friendly. Especially loved the Everything Boat Noodle, which was chock full of beef, tendon, tripe, pork skin, and more. Both noodle dishes had a perfect level of spice. The restaurant does get busy around dinner time and the parking lot is small, so plan to come earlier if possible. Will definitely be back again!

Hands down one of the best Thai restaurants I’ve ever been to , the food , the service everything was on point , I will travel to LA just to eat here from Florida.

Diner Review №26

Boat noodles (beef with everything) were amazing! "Hot" spicy was perfectly manageable for me, but to be honest they're so flavorful they don't need to be very spicy, would probably go for a little less next time.

2024/07/16:
Both the jade noodle and boat noodle soup were delicious

Diner Review №31

This is Hollywood’s Original Thai spot! Even though “Coffee Shop” is in their name, they only coffee they have there is Thai Iced Coffee. It’s an Undiscovered Gem you should know about!

First thing is first, Parking is a bit small, so if you need to, there should be some street parking across the street.

It's a hole in the wall kind of place, but that typically means the food will be good!

Everyone was very friendly! They made sure that everything came out okay! Made sure that our water was always full, they do a fantastic job!

Food and Drink:

🥢Boat Noodle Everything: It’s like pho, but with a richer broth. I’m not one for tripe or tendon, but everything together was delicious! It was a very comforting dish to start the meal with!

🥢Kra Pao Fried Rice: We had ours with chicken, and this must be my favorite Thai fried rice. With the bit of spice, it was delicious. After adding the squeeze of lime juice, it elevated the dish to a whole other level!

🥢Tamarind and Garlic Wings: My favorite thing ever. The wings were super crispy, the flavors of the tamarind and garlic all throughout, plus the fried basil on top of that to give it that extra essence just tops it all off!

🥢Sticky Rice: Most of the time, when I get sticky rice, I think of it as something of a dessert, Sapp proved me wrong. It was delicious and having that pared with either the boat noodle or the Tamarind and Garlic Wings was great.

🥢Mango Sticky Rice: I love the fact that there are two different types of rice here. Plus topped everything off with condensed coconut milk. The rice had a mochi like texture. The mango is a honey type mango, so you can be sure it’s a deliciously sweet mango!

🥢Thai Tea: You can tell this whole thing was made in house. It’s creamy, the tea was perfect. I need to try the Thai Iced Coffee next time!

There are a couple of menu items that I did order to go that I didn't get pictures of!

🥢Che Bo Trio: Ohh man, this was a treat! BBQ Pork, Crispy Pork, and Roasted Duck all on top of rice! Then you get the sauces to complement the meats. I enjoyed the crispiness of the crispy pork, and the flavors of the BBQ Pork and Roasted Duck.

🥢Pad Thai: This was a very light and comforting dish overall. It was full of flavor, wasn’t oily at all. And had to give the dish that hit of lime juice to marry the flavors together. Very much a favorite Pad Thai dish!

This place is amazing! Also got to appreciate the fact that they were the first Thai employer of Alternative Culture! And they have the Oldest Generational Ownership!

Check it out if you can!

The owner and crew are friendly, easy going, and serve delicious authentic Thai food.

Diner Review №33

We enjoyed the following dishes:

Tamarind & Garlic Wings
Wings were meaty and the tamarind sauce adds even more flavor!

Kra Pao Fried Rice
Simple yet satisfying, the basil seals the deal

Boat Noodle Everything
Flavorful broth and generous with the meats/animal parts

Jade Noodles
Dry noods are my fave, these are yummy spinach noodles with lots of toppings

Mango Sticky Rice
Classic and most favorite Thai dessert, mango was so sweet, and ask for crushed peanuts to sprinkle on!

Diner Review №34

Was on the Bourdain fished visited locations so decided to give it a try. Very classic late 70s and early 80s vibe Asian eatery meaning Asian food made to beat ability with ingredients that can be sourced locally. Reminiscent of the traditional Chinese chop suey restaurant but Thai in cuisine. The fried rice has excellent "wok hei". A tasty place to visit.

Diner Review №35

Fantastic place, delicious authentic food and super friendly hosts. Highly recommended!

Diner Review №37

This is a little gem in Thai Town and is supposedly the original Thai joint in Hollywood.

Upon entering, there's not too much decor and looks kind of like a whole in the wall - which was great because those kind of places always have a great food!

It's a Thai spot so OF COURSE we got the Thai tea. And I don't know what it was but theirs was rich and really good. We even got a refill to go.

If you get the tamarind and garlic wings, then you have to try the sauce. Otherwise, it's just regular wings, but the sauce does so much to make the dish. Keep in mind that the sauce is a bit spicy...

The boat noodles with everything in it was one of their signature dishes, and it's honestly a dish we have never had. It literally had a bunch of stuff in it, but it was very flavorful. I'm not even sure what to compared it to because it was different but definitely tasty. To go with the boat noodles, we ordered some Kra Pao fried rice and that was delicious. Keep in mind that this is Thai food...so EVERYTHING had some heat on it even if it was described as mild.

My favorite part of the meal was the mango sticky rice. It was a perfect counter to the savory and spiciness that we just experienced. Their mango sticky rice came with warm rice, which is something we notice only happens at the legit Thai spots. It does make a difference and it made their mango sticky rice soooo good!

I will 100% go back next time I'm in LA. The owner was so nice and the food was delicious! 10/10 would come again :)

Diner Review №44

I am Thai and I gotta say this place has the most authentic (and delicious) Thai food in the area. They’re called coffee shop but it’s nothing to do with cafe-like shop. This is a real Thai restaurant, run by Thai people. The dishes I ordered tasted like what they were in Thailand. The drinks are moderate sweet, which is exactly what I needed!! Servers are really nice. They played 2000s Thai songs. Great place for gatherings or solo dining! Price was great too! Totally recommend!

Diner Review №46

I visited LA for a week and this was the best restaurant I ate at. Food was delicious and the owner was super friendly. I'll definitely be eating here again next time I'm in town!

Diner Review №47

I hate driving to LA, but when I do, I had to visit Hollywood's original Thai joint.

Parking: Parking will be difficult! They're located in a small plaza with very limited parking, but there is metered parking. We just happen to be blessed with a parking spot right in front of the restaurant.

Environment/Ambiance: Walking in, we were greeted by the waitress, asked how many were in our party, and seated. We arrived right after their lunch rush around 5pm, so we had the place to ourselves for a bit. Around 6-7pm, the dinner rush came in. I would describe the inside mid-sized with good amount of seating. It's definitely a traditional restaurant; we noticed the details of the plates and utensils. And yes, there is one bathroom.

Service: We had the honor of meeting a few of the owners, Peter and Allen. Everyone was very welcoming, nice, and funny. After placing our orders, throughput was under 10 minutes.

Food & Drinks:

1) Tamarind Marinated Wings - We started off with these as appetizers. I was very impressed with these because they tasted exactly like my GIL's when she made them. To eat these wings, my bf taught me to rip off pieces of chicken, grab some sticky rice, roll it into a ball, and dip both of them into the jaew sauce. So delicious! 10/10

2) Som Tham Lao (fermented papaya salad with Thai herbs and chili) - Since my bf and I been together, his aunt always made me papaya salad, so I had to try this for myself. I ordered this dish mild, and wow was it spicy. If your spice tolerance is low, I recommend anything less than mild lol. As you can tell, Thai foods can be spicy. The servers always ask what spice level you prefer. I really liked this dish though! Other than the spiciness, it tasted exactly like my bf's aunt's! 9/10

3) Boat Noodle Everything (signature boat broth with tendon, liver, beef, tripe, stewed beef, and beef balls topped with chicharons) - I looove this noodle dish! So much flavors from the meats and broth. They were very generous with the meats. 10/10

4) Jade Noodles (spinach egg noodle with BBQ pork, roast duck, crab meat served with sugar, ground peanuts and chili powder) - The servers taught me to quickly mix everything. If you let it sit for too long, the noodles will be stuck in its shape. These noodles were surprisingly not as spicy as I thought (but you can always adjust). The color of the noodles were so pretty and tasted even better. The meats paired well with the spinach noodles. 9/10

5) Mango Sticky Rice (seasonal) - Dessert time! This is my absolute favorite Thai dessert! The mango was sweet; not sour. Half the sticky rice was white, and the other half was blue. The server explained the color of the blue rice was extracted from a certain type of flower. And the coconut cream wasn't too overwhelming; perfect amount. 10/10

6) Pandan Juice - This drink was recommended to me by the owner. I thought this was very refreshing. The only Pandan I've ever had is Pandan milk tea, so I didn't have anything to compare it to lol. 8/10

7) Thai Tea - What's a Thai spot without Thai tea? This definitely tasted authentic. They mix the tea with ice (not blended). The ratio of tea to half&half was equal amounts. Wasn't too sweet for me, but you can always adjust sweetness level. 9/10

Pricing: Prices are $$ modern. Each dish can feed 1-2 persons if you share. I feel it's worth its authenticity.

Boat noodles are fantastic! Already came back a second time

Diner Review №49

Amazing!!!! Could not be happier with my experience. I will definitely be coming back!

Diner Review №50

Wow! How have I not known about this spot until now? We were craving some South East Asian food that is authentic to its roots. Came here with a friend after finding out this is Hollywood's Original Thai Joint in the lovely Thai Town. It is located in a small plaza with very little parking. There's metered parking available on the street or free parking in the plaza. Though inconspicuous on the outside, this spot has so much to offer inside. Don't been fooled by the stained ceilings either, the food is spectacular!

We ordered the Boat Noodles with everything, Soft Shell Crab, Blood Larb Salad, Shrimp Pad Thai, and the Beef Pad Kra Pao with an egg. And OMG! Everything was amazing! I loved the apple relish that accompanies the soft shell crab. It acted as a nice palate cleanser to the fried appetizer. The broth of the boat noodles was so good! I haven't had great boat noodles in a while. The shrimp was cooked perfectly in the pad thai. We were told that the pad thai was actually more similiar to that of the noodles back in Thailand. It wasn't like other Thai spots that make it more saucy and wet to cater to other palates. That Beef Pad Kra Pao we ordered also had the perfect umami blend of spicy, sweet, and salty. Would definitely order it again! And that Blood Larb Salad? What a surprise! If you're feeling a bit adventurous, I'd give this dish a try. It had a nice kick that hits all the notes. No other Thai restaurants in the area have this dish as an option at all. They actually have a wide selection of salads that you cannot find in many other Thai restaurants.

Peter and his wife, Jane, are the sweetest people. Peter gave us great recommendations on what to order. He also gave us a little insight and background to the history of the restaurant. Their staff is also friendly and efficient. Service was nothing short of amazing. Definitely would love to bring my husband back here to try their boat noodles!

Diner Review №51

Sapp Coffee Shop came highly recommended by a foodie family member. It did not disappoint! We had Jade Noodles and Boat Noodles - with the lot! Both dishes were delicious. Highly recommended!

Diner Review №52

Loved the boat noodles here. It seemed to be just as good as the ones in Thailand, especially the mixed bowl. The steak piece in the mixed bowl is especially tender. Wish the crispy pork skin was refried, it seemed a little stale.

The fried soft shell crab was also wonderful, one of the best ones that we've had. Lightly battered and very airy. The stir fried morning glory was also great.

Service was friendly. The atmosphere was lively.

From the exterior, Sapp Coffee Shop doesn’t immediately grab your attention, and this initial impression persists as you step inside. However, the warm welcome from the amiable owner quickly shifts the atmosphere. As someone deeply passionate about food, with frequent trips to Thailand largely driven by its culinary delights, I was initially puzzled by the menu here. It seemed to read more like a Vietnamese menu rather than a traditional Thai one, leaving me curious about the high praise this spot has received online. This curiosity turned into sheer delight upon tasting their Crabmeat Rice Noodle with egg. This dish was a revelation, offering one of the most exquisite noodle experiences I’ve had, whether in Thailand or elsewhere. Coupled with excellent service, reasonable prices and a laid-back ambiance, Sapp Coffee Shop is a gem that I wholeheartedly recommend.

The woman at the register was extremely rude. Did not have a good experience there. The woman at the front kept ignoring me when i tried to order a coffee. I waited over 10 minutes to try and put and order in. Then another customer goes there and she tries to go past me and take his order.

Not sure why i was treated that way and why i was ignored, but i will not be coming back or recommending here to anyone

Have ordered delivery from this place the past couple of years. Very dependable & always delicious. Every item is the perfectly portioned meal.

We finally went for a sit down meal at the restaurant & the staff couldn't have been nicer. Cute place in Thai Town. You'll probably need to park on the street but worth it for a nice meal. I recommend their Kra Pao over any other place in L.A.

Diner Review №77

This would be a weekly spot if I lived in LA. Don't miss it.

Diner Review №78

One of my favourite places to eat in LA for an affordable meal. The owner and staff personally greeted us when we came in and provided a detailed explanation of the menu. I really enjoyed the Thai Iced Tea, Pad Kra Pao Fried Rice with Beef, and Spicy Drunken Noodles.

Still need to try the Boat Noodles which looked amazing.

The Kao Moo Dang, Roast Duck over Rice, and Kha Na Moo Krob were average and on par with typical Asian BBQ meats.

Diner Review №79

Liver cooked perfectly not over done. Great learn type sauce and mint. I also guy the Thom Kha. So on point. Flavor perfect and great heat. Even with Covid I could taste this yummy food. And it was packed really well. I used Postmates cuz fees were less than Uber eats even though the are the same company. No soup spills and bag was stapled shut so no worries 💯🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️ my new favorite place!!

Diner Review №89

Absolutely awesome food! It certainly was an delicious. I came here for lunch one day, not knowing anything about the place. I’ve been over to Thailand many times, I am familiar with the food and I gotta say that this has some of the best Thai food outside of Thailand that I’ve tried. The boat noodles I got were excellent! Took me back to the food stall just down the way from my condo near Sukhumvit. Then the nam tok wow! So good I can’t praise it enough. Thoroughly enjoyed that dish and I plan to come back and bring friends very soon. The thai tea was also very good. Nothing better than normal thai tea but with the combination of excellent thai food, it hit just right. Had a very good interaction with the staff and then a man named Allen, maybe he’s the owner or something, I’m not sure but him and I chatted for a while and overall the place is very friendly, and they serve excellent food. Like I said before, I felt like I was back in Thailand. I won’t really be back there for a little over 4 months so finding this place will help me to overcome my cravings for good Thai food until then. 🤣

They do have a restroom here, the parking was decent but unfortunately a delivery truck was blocking most of the spaces when I arrived but someone happened to be leaving so I was able to park there, and unfortunately the only negative I have to say is that I was full and couldn’t eat anymore, I wanted to take the rest of my noodles home with me but a bit of miscommunication between me and one of the staff and she thought I was done and didn’t want them so a bit of those delicious noodles got wasted but I’m not too worried about it. Great experience for my first time here and I will definitely be back.

Tucked away with an authentic hole-in-the-wall ambiance, served incredibly delicious dishes. Service is on point.

Diner Review №91

Outstanding Thai food, seriously authentic flavours. You can see the efforts they go to, all the chopped chillis and garlic give a detail that is lost at many Thai restaurants.

When it comes to Thai food in LA, you're spoiled for choice, but let me tell you about my go-to spot that keeps me coming back like a food magnet: Sapp Coffee Shop. This place has got me hooked for boat noodles. Trust me, they do it right!

Aside from their fantastic boat noodles, I have a few other go-to dishes that I always enjoy here, like the jade noodles, pad see ew, pad thai, and the chebo trio meats over rice. But if you're feeling a bit more adventurous and want to try something new, I highly recommend their pad kra pao with any protein of your choice or the flavorful rad na. I recently had the pleasure of trying the rad na for the first time with a Thai friend who grew up eating it, and he assured me that it tasted just like home. It's a wide noodle dish smothered in a deliciously thick gravy sauce with your preferred protein. Needless to say, I'll definitely be ordering it again on my next visit.

Despite its small size, Sapp Coffee Shop has been a beloved neighborhood gem for over 35 years. While the ownership has changed hands to a different generation of the family about 2-3 years ago, it still retains that wonderful family-owned vibe. Keep in mind that the parking lot is a bit small, but there's usually ample parking available nearby. To avoid any potential wait, I suggest visiting during off-peak hours.

In addition to their tried-and-true menu, they've recently introduced a couple of new items, including two delightful dessert options. It's always exciting when a restaurant expands their offerings, and Sapp Coffee Shop doesn't disappoint in this regard.

Overall, Sapp Coffee Shop is a humble and cozy Thai restaurant that consistently delivers delicious food and friendly service. Whether you're a boat noodle aficionado or simply looking for a new Thai dish to try, this place has you covered. Give it a visit and you won't be disappointed.

Legit Thai place located in Thai Town! I’ve been eating here for 20 years (since I was a kid) and have yet to try something I didn’t like.

One thing I have to mention, my dad loves their Sen Chan Pad Boo (similar to Pad Thai - haven’t seen this dish at any other Thai restaurant).

Don't be fooled by the name, this is a Thai restaurant.
Apparently the name goes back thirty or forty years and they've just kept it.

In any event the food here is wonderful and I go just about every week. Their kha na moo krob (crispy pork w Chinese broccoli) is the best I've had in the city. The pork is cooked perfectly - it's crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Most places either get it too crispy and dried out or there's no crispiness to it at all. Here, They nailed it like Goldilocks!

They also have an array of authentic dishes like boat noodle soup and yen ta fo, meanwhile they do some cool trendy modern stuff like drunken noodles, but with spaghetti noodles like you might get on a street corner in Thailand.

Super cool unassuming place. Ya gotta go kid...

Beef boat noodle is a must try!

We’re traveling here. Dinner time but there’s no customers in the restaurant and I still give it a try. The owner kicked out us because of our 5lb dog which is esd and trained. And then he said there was no service dog license in LA! Wow good to know. Good luck with your business.

Wish I could remember the account I watched on Instagram about Anthony Bourdain's travel into Thai Town Los Angeles. I knew I'd be in the area for a few days so I was excited to add Sapp Coffee House and their infamous boat noodles on my must try list. I've had a ton of Thai food in my life but boat noodles were never on my go to list. Instead, it would be the papaya salad, kao ka moo, laap/larb and even Sai Ua. I'm all for trying new food but I was a bit hesitant, yes, I have a Filipino background so one would think dinuguan which contains pig's blood and the same secret ingredient in boat noodles actually the traditional version contains cow blood, nonetheless same same? I guess I expected a really sour taste but it was quite the opposite, it was savory, spicy with the most amazing aroma.
Got #2 Boat Noodles, "Beef & Everything" Rice noodles with Sapp Boat broth, sliced beef, beef meatballs, tendon, beef tripe, beef liver, bean sprouts and crispy pork grinds. The mix of everything beef was great, I don't always do liver but I appreciated the flavor it brought with a few bites same with the tendon and tripe and just like that I am left with the rest, sliced beef and meatballs. You have to eat it fast and with every bite get some of that delicious crispy pork grinds! Initially, I asked for non-spicy/mild and it wasn't spicy at all so I added chili flakes from our condiments on the table and dang it got hot!
I would recommend this dish if you aren't afraid to eat something delicious, savory, spicy, new, aromatic, well worth the stop!

Wanted to try Sapp’s in the summer but it was during a major heatwave and when we arrived they alerted us that several blocks just lost power and they’d have to close down. But their remorse over something out of their control and eagerness to invite us back made it easy to see why Sapp’s positive reputation was deserved. So when we returned recently to finally try their offerings, we were welcomed to some of super tasty Thai food. We had the boat noodles with beef, jade noodles, crab fried rice and Chinese broccoli with salted fish. Sure the decor and the space Sapp’s occupies isn’t the sexiest but it matters not because of the deliciousness they offer. Looking forward to trying more of the menu.

Diner Review №110

Very tasty and definitely the name of the place Saap is an accurate description of the restaurant. In Thai Saap means strong flavor! My boat noodles were amazing.

This place has amazing boat noodle. It is hard to distinguish which top ones are better but Sapp win by the amount. Definitely to go place for Thai boat noodle in LA!

Diner Review №113

Pro tip - Go for breakfast and beat the crowd! I dined at 8:30 am on a Sunday and found it to be one of the best Thai meals I've ever eaten. I spoke with one of the family members who owns the place, and he gave me the back story about why their name included "coffee shop" (it goes back to their origin of being located in a hotel lobby, and the hotel made them serve coffee in the morning). Very friendly and hospitable! The setting isn't much to write home about. Very much a "joint" feel. That adds to the whole experience I think.

I ordered the Jade Noodles and the Pad Kra Prao at the owner's suggestion. So grateful I didn't just order the Pad Thai. He mentioned that the Kra Prao is actually one of the more popular street dishes in Thailand, not the Pad Thai. The Jade Noodles were so tasty, mainly because the flavor was subtle and refreshing.

This place is worth the trip out of your own LA neighborhood

Great service, food excellent. Little on the sweet side for my taste but you can ask for no sugar.

Diner Review №118

Staff is great. Still one of the best. Love the boat noodles with everything… hearty comfort food at its finest. Drunken Pasta noodles w pork, lettuce, tomatoes … very nice. And the Pad Kra Pao, prolly the most comfort Thai dish of them all (even for Thai people), was great… got it without the egg to mix it up.

Delicious Thai food, highly recommended for Pad See Ew and Thai tea

Sapp Coffee shop is on many people's must eat places in LA! We knew we had to try it when we were visiting LA.

We went on a weekday afternoon and were able to get seats without a wait which was great.

This place has many unique and delicious Thai dishes you won't find anywhere else!
The service was great and was warm and friendly. Thank you for your hospitality and generosity.

I am used to spicy foods and they have spicy and Bangkok spicy. I tried spicy and that was some fire. I recommend you start with mild and level up because their spice level is the truth.

We got lucky and scored a limited edition Thai new year Sapp shirt too! Woohoo!

We will definitely be going back and trying all the dishes we didn't get to try this visit.

Thank you! 🙏

The Jade Noodle dish is like nothing i’ve eaten before. it’s so delicious i keep going back to eat it again.

Diner Review №125

Their jade noodles is the best. The taste is pretty authentic. The portion is big as well.

Diner Review №126

Diner Review №127

Down-to-earth Thai eatery focusing on comfort "single dish" staples. It's becoming my new favorite spot to grab a simple lunch that puts a smile on my face and reminds me of home.

Diner Review №128

Diner Review №129

Amazing food friendly staff

Diner Review №130

It can get busy and I think they’re a little short staffed so won’t be unusual to have to wait for service even though you’re seated. The food is delicious though!

Diner Review №131

While an unassuming interior, the food at Saap is incredibly delicious. I recommend the jade noodle and the boat noodle. Service is quick and efficient. I saw one review note that they were cash only, but they may have updated their policy as they accepted our card just fine. I would highly recommend a visit for any Thai food enthusiasts, this will be one of our new go-to spots.

Diner Review №132

Their boat noodles are legit!

Diner Review №133

Good thai food

Diner Review №134

Do NOT take anyone other than yourself if you absolutely have no other choice than this place. Horrible decor. Florescent white lighting and white tiles on the walls. Reminded me of a storage room. Also accepts cash only. I just noped the $&%@ out.

Diner Review №135

It's been some months since I've been here, but I've been eating here for years and it's always been a favorite. I brought a friend who'd never eaten here and so i was excited to share this little gem.

We ordered the Rad Na noodles and rice with fried pork - they were both barely edible.
The noodles were drowned in flavorless gravy and stuck together in a massive gloopy clump.
The pork appeared to be fried hours earlier, was cold, dried out and chewy.
Big disappointment.

I had the #2, Boat noodles with just beef and no spice ($12). There’s pickled chili peppers, chili sauce and chili powder on the tables so you can customize your food to how you like. I like my noodles on the sour side, so I added the vinegar from the pickled peppers. The noodles had a nice chew, the meat was tender and the soup was not too salty! Just a heads up— they automatically add 18% gratuity for parties of 5 or more. I love the R&B they have playing in the back and that we can walk easily down the street to grab desserts and snacks at Bhan Kanom Thai.

We have the thai beef salad and it was amazing!! Can wait to come back to taste other food!!

Amazing food and friendly staff. Definitely recommend getting the beef boat noodles, but I don’t think you can go wrong with anything here.

Diner Review №143

Great food and customer service

Diner Review №144

If you expect Thai taste and authenticity go to Pee Yai a few blocks down the road. The price in not reasonable and the service is slightly below average. 1 star is a fair rating for this Mega MSG restaurant.

Diner Review №145

I pickup up my order and was happy to see a paper bag and the food was in biodegradable containers. I ordered the Jade noodles and Pad Thai. Both absolutely delicious.

Cute Mom and Pop feel to the restaurant.

Diner Review №147

Love the food! Everything is good, especially the Jade noodles. We always hit this spot when we come to LA. This is a cash only place, so bring your cash.
Edit: After Covid
The ladies are rude. They act as if they don't need your business. Everytime we come here, they are rude, like you're bothering them. It's a real turn off. They are starting to cut corners with their food as well.
I get it that it's been a long day, but there is no need for rudeness, especially when your customers are your bread and butter.

Diner Review №148

I've loved this place for years after the legendary Anthony Bordain and chef Jet Tila said this is thee spot for authentic Thai boat noodles! I've had the entire menu over the years but the Jade Noodles, preserved duck egg w stir fried pork (shown here) and crispy pork w morning glory are my faithful go-to's!

And you cannot pass up their famous Thai Coffee! 110% Delicious!!!

Diner Review №149

Cash only! The food here is amazing! It tasted exactly as if I was in Thailand. Ordered Hoi Joh, Jade Noodles, Beef boat noodles, and Thai iced tea. I've been looking for Hoi Joh everywhere and I was very happy seeing it on the menu here 🥰

Diner Review №150

Diner Review №151

Came here for the jade noodles and ended up loving everything we ordered, especially the longan drink.

Diner Review №152

Their boat noodles is one of the best.

Diner Review №154

The best Thai food in LA, my native Thai relatives all love this place too. The women who work here are so sweet and hard working too, please go support you won’t regret it T_T

Diner Review №155

Boat noodle /w beef and everything is the way to go here.

Diner Review №156

Thai boat noodle was great. Good balance of pork blood in the broth, it didn’t overpower the flavor. Jade noodles were bland and lacked an acidic element.

Diner Review №157

My go to place for the last 30 something years. Been going since it was at its old location in front of the motel. The sweet liver was perfectly concocted.

Don’t let the name fool you - this spot is a great thai restaurant. The thai tea here is strong and sweet and pairs nicely with anything spicy that you might get here. The beef in the noodle dishes is so tender and tasty and the drunken noodles are super flavorful. Love that they add a bit of white pepper to the top of the drunken noodles. Make sure you bring your vaccination card (or a photo) and hit up an ATM before coming here (they’re cash only). Food is well priced here too

Diner Review №168

This place deserves a 5 stars just for their beef and everything noodle. Very cheap with a great variety of cuts, tendon, tripe and the best of all, liver. Also had chicharones which provide nice texture. The meat ball tasted home made but was somewhat mediocre in my opinion

Diner Review №169

Bad service. Small portion and pricey. Cash only but no sign. Not happy with this restaurant at all.

Diner Review №170

Best Thai cuisine in LA🥺❤️

Must Try the THAI MILK TEA!!!!!

My favorite Thai spot in LA. Get the jade noddles or the omelets !

Diner Review №176

Impressive. This is one of the best Thai restaurants that I’ve even had.
Ordered Boat Noodle, Jade Noodle, and Hoi Joh. Boat Noodle immediately entered my top Asian dish list with the first sip. The sourness stands out very well with other savory notes, creating a very structured yet surprising flavor.
(Btw, this is the first time I tried Hoi Joh and it is so similar to a traditional snack 雞卷 in Hokkien, China. Which I think is interesting as a Hokkien person myself.)
Anyways I like this place so much and will definitely visit back often.

Diner Review №178

Very good tai food

Diner Review №179

Covid update 6.8.2021: there is outdoor seating only. This is also a CASH ONLY establishment.

I tried the boat noodles and the pad ka prao with ground pork. The boat noodles were authentic, similar to the boat noodles you can find on the streets of Thailand for $2-3 except over there, they also give you a plate full of veggies you may add into your noodles soup.

The pad ka prao was at par for thai standards. I felt it missed a certain thai chili they normally add in Thailand. The fried egg on top costs a little extra.

Overall, I highly recommend the thai boat noodles. Others popular dishes include the jade noodles and the crab fried rice.

P.S. Renowned food critic Anthony Bourdain used to be a regular here for their boat noodles.

Best Boat Noodle I had so far in United States.

Diner Review №182

We had a wonderful experience here! My friend got boat noodle soup with beef and said it was the best they'd ever tasted - just the right amount of broth, noodles, meat - and great flavor. I had the veggie spring rolls and a thai iced tea. The spring rolls were hot and crispy! Definitely recommend them. Thai iced tea was delicious.

Masks were still required when we visited. Seating was outside under a tent with some nice plants decorating the area.

Diner Review №183

Unassuming place, hospitable service, excellent food, unique dishes, can’t wait to return!

Diner Review №184

Boat noodles with beef were amazing and the broth was so flavorful!

Diner Review №185

CASH ONLY?!? Well deserved hype over the jade noodles, but the customer experience needs some improvement.

The food was AMAZING, had the famed jade noodles as on previous visits and added pork larb to the order which was perfection. But the digital menu took me some trouble to pull up, and when asked what I wanted to drink I asked for sparkling water and the server responded that they didn't have any and then walked away with no suggestion of any other beverage. I had to wait to finally get the menu to pull up, for her to come back and then finally order a drink to satisfy my thirst on a hot day.

The meal was ready to be wrapped up when I learned that it was cash only. Wait. I thought we were in 2021?? Who carries cash? Luckily I was dining with my boyfriend and he could wait at the table while I drove two miles to get to an ATM to withdraw cash from my bank. And with the current pandemic, I immediately sanitized my hands after handing over the dirty and inconvenient cash.

So sad to give this rating to such wonderful food. But really, time to step things up Sapp Coffee Shop.

Diner Review №186

Literally everything here is good, I dont know how it’s possible.
Plus, best iced coffee I’ve ever had in my life. Complete banger

Diner Review №197

This is one of my favorite restaurants. My favorite dish is the lamb kebabs. The portions are huge and I am always satisfied. The food I received when I ordered delivery through Postmates was also incredible. Some restaurant food does not deliver well but I highly recommend Seasoning Alley for takeout, delivery, and I look forward to eating there again when they open for a full business. I highly recommend the lamb kebabs, I am never disappointed. Seasoning Alley is a must try if you have not been there before.
