Can't get anymore authentic!
Amazing food. We ordered the classics such as pad thai and papaya salad, but this restaurant did it slightly differently by using crispy pork belly in the pad thai and salted eggs in the salad. The shrimp paste fried rice was the standout. Service was friendly and attentive as well, and the place is nicely decorated and spacious. Restroom needs work, however.
I came in for lunch on Sat and was able to find free street parking in the side street across the street. I like that they have an extensive menu, much more options than other Thai restaurants I've been to. I think my favorite dishes are Duck Larb and shrimp cake, but all the other stables such as papaya salad and drunken noodles are good as well.
I've lived in Thai town for about 3 years, and only recently realized this place is my favorite out of all the places around! Consistently best in texture, flavor, price, and portion size. Everything just right. If you're wondering how to choose which place to order from, I'm telling you this is the one.
Review based on one dish only, the salted crab papaya salad. Flavors were fine, although more salt than crab taste. I thought very little crab for what was a $20 salad after tax/tip. And the biggest dealbreaker for me was that the crab shells were dispersed through the salad so every other bite had an inedible large piece of crab shell. Not fun to eat at all.
This place is so authentic and delicious. You can’t really go wrong ordering anything on the menu but my personal favorites are the papaya salad and rad na. They can do the papaya salad Lao or Thai style. If you like Lao way and like raw marinated crab, then please get that. It’s amazing. Spicy means spicy here. Of all the many delicious place in Thai town, this is top of most of my friends list
I’d give this place 10 stars if given the option! We wanted to get authentic Thai food and our friend recommended this spot in Thai town. Def top 3 Thai food I have ever had!
It was a cozy down-to-earth environment and had plenty of walk-in seating. We ordered a thing of fried rice and hot pot and a pork sausage for appetizer. It was very much casual & street food style Thai food and delicious. Recommend their chrysanthemum tea - good for a hot summer day.
The staff were really friendly and professional. The only thing was that the air conditioning seemed to be broken and they had large fans on.
My Thai friend recommended this and I found the restaurant and the service decent but the food was a bit disappointing. The taste was okay to good but I extremely crave water after finishing the meal so I guess the deliciousness comes from putting too much of the delicious powder itself.
The shrimp starter and the Pad See Ew was similar to what I had back in Thailand. Tom yum was a bit too sour. The chicken satay was so dry and plain, even the sauce was dull too.
No parking lot, only metered street parking or park in the resident area.
I like that Lacha has a warmer feel to the restaurant, mismatch cushion seats but it all pulls together really well. Not sure if it's family owned and run but it has that cozy feeling of service with care but not annoyingly noisy or trying to get a higher tip.
The food is really good, I usually order take out because of my schedule. This is one of the places that take out tastes and have the same quantity as if you are dining in. I had naked shrimp in Vegas and couldn't find a place that did it well until I ran across Lacha. Only caution the food is really spicy, so if you want medium order mild.
Like any place in Hollywood it's super difficult to find parking.

I've tried about 15 or so thai restaurants in the Thai Town area and this is my favorite Thai restaurant. My parents are not fond of thai and we needed takeout in a pinch and they devoured it!
This place is so authentic and delicious. You can’t really go wrong ordering anything on the menu but my personal favorites are the papaya salad and rad na. Nice thai stye food as original some busy day service may drop and street parking not enough
Love, love, love! Went here 2 days in a row! I recommend the papaya salad, pad see ew, penang curry, and yellow curry! Can’t wait to try their other dishes!
One of the best green curries I’ve ever had
Review based on one dish only, the salted crab papaya salad. Flavors were fine, although more salt than crab taste. I thought very little crab for what was a $20 salad after tax/tip. And the biggest dealbreaker for me was that the crab shells were dispersed through the salad so every other bite had an inedible large piece of crab shell. Not fun to eat at all.
Came here with a small group and everyone got different entrees and ended up LOVING what they got. Will definitely come back 🫶
So good.
非常惊艳的一顿餐,生腌虾非常美味,青木瓜沙拉、老挝牛排也好吃,服务也非常热情周到,价格也合理
I love their food!!!! Very authentic Thai style!
Very cheap and very large potion of food. Overall is very good. The flavor is a little bit sweeter than Thai food I had before.
My all-time favorite authentic Thai food with a family-owned touch!
Tasty Good here.. we'll be back!!
Casual setting for some delicious Thai food.
This place is legit! Best Thai food I’ve had outside of Thailand (where I lived for 7 years). The staff are charming as is the ambience.
No frills Thai restaurant. Good flavorful food. We liked all the dishes we ordered. Boat Noodle was really fulfilling. We'll be back for more.
We went for lunch and had a great overall experience. From the warm greeting and attentive service to the expansive menu and authentically delicious food this place exudes Thai hospitality. We tantalized our taste buds with the spicy Thai green papaya salad, the larb with ground pork and the spring rolls with shrimp. We followed that with pineapple fried rice, Panang curry with tofu, and pad woon sen with chicken. Each dish was layered with flavor and uniquely sumptuous. Can't wait to return and try more from their menu.
Nice place, clean , good food, reasonable price and pleasant decor.
Can second another review i saw on here- best curry in town
The Papaya Salad should win the Papaya Salad award, one of the best things I’ve ever eaten, the Red Curry with beef was extraordinary, one of the best red curry’s out there, 10s across the board
Still amazing but quality is going down.... Pad Thai stops coming w the small shrimps unless you specifically request it. If you forget to request a spice level they make it without any spice. :/
Friendly staff and good (and spicy!) food. It was not very busy despite it being a Saturday dinner night. The place is small but warm and welcoming. This place is known for its papaya salad, and it was pretty good!
Thai food in the northeastern style.
Recommendations for appetizers: Pork Jerky, Esaan sausage.
Recommendations for dishes: Duck over rice, Papaya salad, mango salad, lacha crispy pork pad thai, deep fried trout, thai omelet, prik khing, crab fried rice, Chinese sausage fried rice, Tom yum, BBQ Pork over rice.
Recommendations for drinks: coconut, taro milk tea, thai ice tea, water.
Recommendations for desserts: fried ice cream, mango sticky rice.
So the wife and I came on a Saturday afternoon. We ordered lacha dried noodles, the boat noodles and the Lao papaya. The lacha dried noodle needed more flavor. However, the boat noodle and papaya was flavorful.
I wouldn't rate it 5 stars or call it amazing. Having experienced a lot of great Thai cuisine, my expectations were high for an authentic experience at Porthole Argo. However, I was disappointed; the Larb dish came with tiny bits of fresh cabbage, not meeting the authentic Larb expectations. The Green curry lacked spiciness, sweetness, or creaminess, deviating from what I consider genuine. Additionally, the Massaman curry was overly sweet. The service was average at best. Prices were expensive considering the food quality.
Lovely service and the best Thai food we had outside of Thailand.
Go for the fried papaya salad.
best thai food outside of thailand. we love the somtum with raw crab. they messed up one of our take out orders once & fixed it right away. A+++ food & service
Don't order the duck. It was oversalted and boney, definitely not worth the extra $5. Everything else was honestly ok but I won't be back.
The curries are excellent here. Highly recommend the duck red curry, very savory and very well balanced.
The fried chicken and shrimp cakes for appetizers are good.
The fresh basil with fresh chili with seafood is ok. A bit salty and the seafood are not as fresh, the mussels are overcooked and has past date odor.
Protip. Ask for mild for spiciness if you're not used to it. Medium is already hot. If you order mild and still not as spicy you can ask for more fresh chili on the side.
Waitress has a great smile and is happy when you clear your plate :)
Good and authentic Thai food and Thai iced tea. Generous portions. They also have fresh coconut but we didn't try.
best papaya salad i’ve ever had
Shrimp paste rice and the papaya salad with crispy pork were PHENOMENAL. Holy moly deliciousness
Cute space, good food, lovely staff! I would have gone again if we were in town longer.
Third time here in about 2 weeks. The green curry and papaya salad are incredible. I’ve been to SO MANY nearby Thai restaurants and this is this first one with flavor that can match the spice. And let me tell you, it’s spicy. I can usually handle medium spicy elsewhere , but I always get mild here, cause they don’t F around.
Very delicious. Very spicy.
I can’t believe they would use canned pineapples instead of fresh ones!!! The artificial overly sweet and sour taste of a canned pineapple was like getting punched in the face while the flavor of the basil, curry leaf, everything else in the dish is going in the completely opposite direction. There’s also an unbelievable amount of it compared to all other ingredients, making the entire thing quite unbearable. I would caution against ordering any dish with pineapple in it :( service was nice but I really just wanted good food sorry
Delicious unassuming restaurant serving authentic Thai food. Our 5 &7 year old enjoyed their fried wontons, I had massaman curry (mild spice), and my husband had the pad Thai. Delicious!!!
This was easily the spiciest meal I’ve ever had. The red curry made my entire body from head to toe tingle with pins and needles, and I could not feel my face. At one point my vision was blurring from the sheer intensity of the flavors, and I thought I was going to start tripping balls. The flavors were beyond comparison, and it tasted like the curry was crafted by the gods themselves. Not only the best Thai food I’ve ever had, but one of the best meals in general that my tastebuds have been graced with. 10/10 meal, never felt so alive and close to death at the same time, the red curry is a must, oh and I got “medium” which I think roughly translates to “hellfire” so maybe go for mild! (Also in the photo we’re crying from how good and hot the food is, it was all smiles at this restaurant 😁)
Good food. Good place
Good authentic Thai food for a good price!
Love the flavor and ingredients of both the pad thai and papaya salad.
Staff is kind and food is served fast. A big menu with a lot of options. They also sell snacks and some dessert options.
Would visit again to try their other dish.
Favorite restaurant when we’re in the area! Visited again after Children’s Hospital appointment and tried something new. Staff was patient, courteous, and helpful explaining the dishes. We had crab curry (SP15) and Andaman fried rice (FR4) - both amazing!
Good authentic Thai spot. Casual setting. Reasonably priced and a friendly staff. Would recommend if looking for a low-key place to eat in Thai town! Crispy pork is great. Eat family style!
the crispy catfish somtum was outstanding! make sure to get sticky rice or vermicelli noodles on the side and dip/pour the sauce all over it. got a medium spicy but wish i got it hotter– not too bad at all. for the bev i had to get my favorite, chrysanthemum tea. sooo good and nostalgic as always. the service was quick and friendly. will be back soon :)
The crispy pork pad Thai was wonderful. The pork was incredible. We got it "mild" and it was perfect for us--same as "spicy" on the westside. My medium spicy crab curry is spicy than I can get on the westside (for Thai)
First time here and it amazed the hell out of me. My friends said that it’s as close to Thailand as I can get while in Los Angeles. The spot is very cozy and charming but the food is out of this world. Perfect amount of spice and seasoning in all the dishes. I think I’m a tom kha soup addict? It was perfect with chunks of chicken and plenty of broth. In all, Lacha will amaze you and the staff will make you feel welcome.
The food was excellent and very authentic with dishes that I've not been able to find in many other Thai restaurants.
It's located in a quaint space slightly more elevated than a general take out spot.
They were nice enough and took a reservation for 12 on the fly.
I'll definitely come back again.
The pad See Ew was very nice! I didn't eat in or get anything else so I can only comment on the one thing I did get and it was good.
Delicious, authentic food with friendly service to boot.
The pad Thai was great. They actually put care into the pad Thai. I like spicy but the medium spice here was perfect for enjoyment. Waitress also friendly as well.
A very good option in Thai town! The Tom Kha and combination fried rice are delicious! Maybe a bit expensive but pretty standard for the price range around the neighborhood.
Excellent food and service, make time in your life to find this place.
We had an excellent experience at this restaurant today. The food was excellent and the service / hospitality was excellent too. Highly recommend this restaurant.
Very friendly service. We ordered pad Thai , papaya salad and green curry for take out. it was absolutely delicious and fresh. You are able to decide the level of spice. Love the food!!
Super authentic. Duck larb is awesome
Ahroi!! (Delicious in Thai) This place is so good, very authentic, and the staff are so friendly and kind. I like somtum Lao and Thai style, fish curry with rice vermicelli, fried catfish yum salad, and sticky rice. I’m pescatarian so I didn’t eat the meat, but my friends all seemed to like it.
I always come to this restaurant. I used to go to Ruen Pair, which is another good Thai food restaurant, they have too many people and I don’t like to wait for 30 minutes even 60 minutes for dinner. Their waitress sometimes can be too busy to get a water from.
My friend recommend me the Lacha Somtum. They offering very very decent and authentic Thai food. I have been to Thailand for several times, I love the real spicy Thai food. And this place is definitely worth to try for people who love the real spicy and tasty Thai food. Somtum means papaya salad,,,,, and I really like it!!!! Please tell them to make it spicy…. And that is the real Somtum should be…
I called and ordered broccoli with mixed veg. The mixed veg was instead of meat as I payed for that. Only received a small portion of only broccoli. Not happy!
We spent over $100 for 7 adults 5 kids who just had sticky rice. I ordered their lacha soup and thought the broth was lacking in flavor. I was the only one who ordered soup and everyone else got a variety of other dishes. It was hot, two fans were on but we were all sweating and it wasn’t because of the food. The fried chicken and calamari was hard and dry. The other dishes lacked flavor and we were disappointed with a place with such high ratings.
Excellent, super rapport qualité prix
Favorite Thai restaurant in Thai town. Everything is delicious and flavors are unique. Wouldn’t recommend anything else on the east side
Very friendly staff. Food was cooked fresh. Old (or rather vintage) decor inside. Food was really good. I had the pad thai and the crispy chicken wings. Very good food. Loved the pad thai though. Would definitely go back.
Super good place!
Great prices, amazing food! Food came out fast and hot- delicious. Would recommend to everyone!
Delicious, flavorful food and friendly staff. Our to-go meal was also packed thoughtfully to keep things crunchy! We loved Lacha Somtum and will definitely be back.
Six kinds of papaya salad! What more can you ask for? Excellent. And they have a small array of Thai snacks for sale at the counter.
This place is awesome. Service is soo nice and fast. The yellow curry was delicious and the pad se ew. I would definitely go back.
Where do I even begin?? This is the best Thai restaurant in LA. Move aside sapp, move aside jitlada - this restaurant has a chokehold on my heart.
Dishes that I loved:
-nam khao
-shrimp paste fried rice (a surprise favorite)
-Tom yum
-crispy pork pad Thai
They are often short staffed due to the crowds that come here - please be patient with them. The servers are never anything less than wonderful no matter how busy they are.
Craving some Thai Food and drove from Santa Monica to Thai Town after work to Lacha Somtum. Staff are super friendly and always checked in with us. Wanna give them more than 5 stars if I could. Got my favorite Crispy Grounded Catfish Salad, Somtum Thai and Crab Cake. All delishhhhh!! Drop what you doing and go to Lacha. You will never be disappointed. 😋
Food poisoning alert! I ordered take out from here tonight- Tom kha soup, green curry and a taro milk tea. I got really sick after eating it. I haven’t had food poisoning in a long time and I forgot how awful it is 😭 The food wasn’t even good either I only ate maybe 1/3 of it. Very disappointing…
Edit- the restaurant replied they “dont know what I’m talking about” in regards to my review. Here is proof that I ate there. I wouldn’t falsely accuse a place of giving me food poisoning. 😕
Wonderfully tasty food and warm, polite service. Coming back for sure
Arroi ti sut!! Best som tum in USA! Great service amazing food, the bambooshoot salad is a must have, huge portions! Authentic Thai spice and taste in the Middle of la!
Thai spicy food. Be careful, don't tell them max spicy if you can't handle.
Foods are good and I love them.
Couldn't dine in cuz I forgot to bring my vaccine card but I was able to order food to go. Papaya salad tasted good when I ate it fresh but once I took it back to my hotel, the flavor became disgusting. Never had that issue! I also got NAM KROK Isan which was suppose to be crispy rice with pork meat and all, but the pork meat was so much that their barely any rice. My dish just became a big soggy mess! The only decent thing I had was the clams. RATE A 2.
Best red curry you'll have.
Good location. Kinda popular a little bit busy and wait.
Best in Thai town.... The spot Thai People go to... Not just Faalongs....
Wanted to try something new near our hotel and the dishes were phenomenal. I've never been so sad to find such an amazing restaurant solely because it's not in my city. I would love to come back just to come here again, endless options. We shared our dishes so we could try more of the food and all were just as delicious but with very different flavors, and definitely must try the dessert as well!
Only negative, though it did not effect my review as the food was perfect, was the service was a bit slow. Even though restaurant was not too busy the staff was not very attentive to put in our order, bring out some of the food, and to pay the check. Honestly added about an hour to our meal time because we didn't want to be rude/impatient. Spent about 2 hours there total. Though, I was not too bothered as I had good company but still.
This place is a 10/10, the food is incredible, as is the service and the prices. Had the crispy pork pad thai and it is honestly one of the best things I have ever eaten, and the Tom Yum soup is up there as well. The seafood in the soup was so fresh and very generous, including mussels, calamari, shrimp and CRAB! You even get to choose the type of noodles in the soup. I could eat here every day.
Food taste great. Experience real Thai food in Thai town. Price is reasonable.
Easily some of the best pad Thai I’ve had. Drinks were delicious and fun. Server was very nice, food came at a good pace, fun little dinner spot.
I love this place . I love papaya salad combos crazy spicy. 🌶
Great food, especially the salads.
Food was great. Finished everything we ordered.
Overall it was very good. The prices were the same as they were a year ago when they closed .Eat there, you won't be disappointed
Nice and clean place....
I really wish restaurants that don’t include typical side items with their entrees (i.e. rice w/ a curry dish) would make this clear on their online menus. I’m here boiling rice for a curry dish that was already priced above what feels fair to pay for a curry w/ no rice.
Takeout from this place was great. We had the BBQ pork dry noodle soup, the fried veggie spring rolls, and the red curry with chicken. The spring rolls were so delicious, bursting with flavor. Also loved the BBQ pork noodles. Tons of flavor even without the soup element. The red curry was at first a little salty for our taste (our American palates were expecting something a bit spicy/sweet) but pro tip: We stirred in the rest of the duck sauce from the spring rolls and it was the perfect complementary flavor!! If that sounds gross I get u but also.... it was delicious. Love this place, will be back!
This is my fave Thai food in Hollywood/Thai Town and let's be honest, all of L.A. First, they have their own delivery people! (never trust those 3rd party delivery services). You could miss this place if you're not looking. It's just right on the side of Hollywood Blvd somewhere between Western/Vermont in a small row of shops. I get delivery and eat at their locale. Inside is adorbs with big cushions on the chairs - very homey, but pretty. Bathroom is clean. Incredibly friendly staff! Now to the food. Cold spring rolls have monster sized shrimp, although I love a good fried roll. I've had a few other dishes, but I'm a creature of habit and can't stop ordering the yellow curry fried tofu. Warning: it's spicy! I usually go with mild, so my dog can dive in, too, but the mild sometimes is spicy for her. I once tried medium and didn't finish the leftovers. But, that's me. If you have a tongue that can handle it, go for the heat.
This place is good every time! Amazing amazing noodles
My Thai mother, loved the authentic dishes and noticed the majority of customers were Thai. The steak Lao, papaya and nam salads are delicious.
Authentic Thai food AMAZING TASTE AND FLAVORFUL highly recommend yellow curry
Love their noodle soups and chicken wings. Good desserts too
food is so authentic it has real taste of rawness lol, literally. The blue crab curry was overwhelmingly spicy, n this is coming from someone that eat habanero for breakfast lol
Everything was absolutely delicious. Wow.
Good place to get Thai noodles
Stopped into Lacha to try some Thai food while visiting the LA area. This place was amazing! I absolutely loved the chicken green curry. We also ordered some wings on the side that came with buffalo sauce. The green curry was seasoned and spiced so well, I ordered it medium and it had a nice kick to it.
We also each got an order of the fried ice cream which was so much better than I was expecting
The staff was also super friendly.
Very authentic thai food. One of the best thai restaurants in Hollywood. Very tasty and many to choose from. Love it here.
Food was very delicious shrimp cakes was very good
The food tests very identical to the original ones they make in Thailand. The price tags are very affordable and realistic. Not to many people here, so I never have to wait.
รสชาติไทยมาก เหมือนที่เมืองไทยเลย, This is very authentic Thai food restaurant. Many of dishes here have taste exactly like the taste of foods in Thailand 🇹🇭.
Yummy 😋
Excellent authentic Thai food. With so many restaurants to choose from in Thai town, I was truly impressed with this location. Of course nothing compares to eating in Thailand, but I'm glad I'm in LA to experience the second best thing.
Excellent service and food
We love the food and staff is excellent
