Authentic ThaiCuisine serving Fremont and near by area since 2002
This was our second try at sala Thai after almost an year. We felt the difference in food quality. Our order usually remains the same, pad Thai veg and chicken. But this time, we also tried yellow curry and rice, which was refreshing and aromatic. Chicken tasted amazing.
The small portion of soup was enough for two people as appetisers. It was hearty addition to entire meal. Another order was pad Thai tofu. It had dress veggies, tasted good and was medium spicy. Portion size and overall the amount of tofu added in the dish would have been more. Especially considering the price of the dish but it tasted nice.
The service was good despite being sort of a rush hour. Order arrived quickly. There was some delay in bringing the bill/ cheque to us but otherwise service was great.
Atmosphere was cozy and there were a lot of people in the hall. And even more waiting outside to be seated. So I would say the place is popular among people. But the place had a calm vibe to it despite that many people being at one place.
Overall, the experience was good and we’ll definitely give it try sometime later. Hope you enjoy this place too! Cheers 🥂
*HAIR IN FOOD!!** Came here for the first time. Anyway, we ordered the drunken noodles, yellow curry and side of white rice. The service was sub par, and then we started eating our food only to find a short piece of black hair with a white tip. Absolutely disgusting. I gave it to the owner and he did not even apologize. Instead, he sent his server to bring us another bowl of white rice, I didn't even ask for another one, especially if it's the same cook, and I am already nauseous from seeing it and knowing I could have ate it too! Poor service. Poor quality. Just garage. And the ambiance, it doesn't exist. Trash everywhere. Dirty floors and dirty bathroom.
This was my first time going to a Thai restaurant and trying this type of food. This place was beyond my expectations! The food was so favorable with all the right spices. I really liked the mango chicken and I recommend trying the deep fried banana at least once. The staff was very friendly, I will definitely go back here again soon!
Came here and found a small piece of hair that was consistent in size with another review I’ve seen from this place. It was very nasty especially because I found it towards the end of my meal under a lump of white rice. My friend who was with me also found a small hair in their rice as well. If another review is saying something exactly like this, it baffles me that they’ve done nothing to fix the problem and that I’ve seen hair in two plates during my visit here
I recently dined at a delightful restaurant and had a wonderful experience! The spicy string beans were a treat; they had just the right kick and earned a solid 8 out of 10 from me! Then came the Pad Thai, which was decent but didn't quite wow me—I'd give it a 6 out of 10. It was a nice dish, but nothing to write home about.
Now, let me tell you about the star of the show: the Sala Thai chicken! It was absolutely out of this world Crispy and Tasty! I’m giving it a whopping 10 out of 10, but honestly, it deserves a 15 out of 10 for how amazing it was! The flavors were so vibrant and delicious that I'm already dreaming about my next visit just so I can savor that dish again. I can't recommend it enough! If you're ever in the area, definitely make sure to try it. Trust me, it’s a must!
We visited this Thai restaurant on a Wednesday night and it was a full hours! But the waitress and kitchen worked very efficiently the entire time during our meal!
We ordered 10 dishes amount 8 of us. If you ever coming to have a meal, please don’t miss their crispy garlic fish. We ordered three of those and we ate them all!
Their curry was delicious, full of the flavors, not spicy, you can taste the coconut and basil, which is the way my wife and I like it!
We will be back for sure. The photos of the restaurant are downloaded from their FB page.
The food was delicious! We were able to make a reservation for 7 people and were seated right away. We ordered and the food came out within minutes. Added more to our order and that food came out fast as well. Excellent service, good size portions. I gave 3 stars for atmosphere only because there was a screaming child 80% of the time we were there. It’s loud and everything moves quickly. Not a quiet dinner place but definitely will be ordering from here in the near
future.
There one girl she is very rude she don't speak very very rude bad service they make fun of people they laugh saff member are
non cooperative they packed food like leakage of soup they don't know how pack food they speak loud saff membe they don't know how to speak they don't deserve one star

Egg rolls were good

Every dish was delicious great service
Love this spot the food is amazing!!
Love their drunken noodles, curries and pineapple fried rice. Satay is great too! Dining in is much tastier than takeout- true for any Thai dishes though!
Have always loved their food! Their Pad See Ew, chicken satay, and yellow curry are delicious! And the roti is delicious!!!
Why is a single piece of roti $7.25 with a tiny cup of watery curry? The "coconut" rice had no coconut or coconut flavor and was just kind of sweet. Tiny box. The regular rice was also a tiny box. The curry was fine, also a very small portion, and doesn't come with rice. Quality has gone downhill over the past few years. Not sure if eating there would improve anything, but definitely avoid if you're getting takeout.
Quite expensive for beef that was overcooked, curry that was decent at best, and tea that tasted like it was from concentrate.
I wouldn't reccomend going here.
Dine in good . Takeout horrible.
Fabulous Thai food. My favs: Mussamun curry, crab fried rice, roti, crispy fish. Everything I've had was delicious.
We visited Sala Thai on Walnut Avenue over the weekend. For the equivalent of about 11 adults, the lunch cost $440. This included an 18% gratuity that was tacked on.
I am Indian. I despise the average Indian fare dished out by the SF Bay Area restaurants because the food is too bland to be called Indian food. On the other hand, I love Thai food available here. Many of their dishes are not bland.
Sala Thai unfortunately was an Indian restaurant in Thai garb. About a decade back, I had visited their Warm Springs location. The food was equally bad. I made sure that we would never visit them again. The same repeated at this location.
While the ambiance was peaceful and the waitstaff efficient, the food was extremely tepid. It was sweet ad nauseam. The only item that had a bit of flavour was an eggplant dish.
If you're looking for flavorful Thai cuisine in the area, I highly recommend Thai Village Cuisine in Union City or Papaya Thai in Fremont. Both restaurants are within 3 miles and offer significantly better food.
Really bad service, they close for an hour from 3 to 4 on weekdays. At 2:30 they started pressuring my friend to order because they're "about to close". That's still half an hour to go...
We ordered their Basil fried rice, yellow curry and spring rolls. Everything was super tasty! The portion size was decent as well.
Tasty Thai food. Service was a little slow. Nonetheless, good stuff.
Food & Setvice was Excellent
The restaurant was busy but between 4-5 servers pretty much everything needed to be asked for. Really bad service and no attention to customers at all. Possibly the staff is just overwhelmed and not trained, it left a bad taste for all of our Saturday evening. The food is meh too.
Food quality has gone down significantly
Fast and tasty
First time to be here. Happened to be here as a guest to my cousin's family on her mother side. Excellent dining experience.
This is one of my absolute favorite Thai restaurants. I get a vegetarian pad Thai most times I go, but I've never had a bad meal. I do recommend dining in as the portions seem to be larger in person than when I have gotten delivery.
Sala Thai is my favorite restaurant and my favorite dishes are green curry, Thai basil spicy fried rice. I have been there multiple times and never been disappointed!
Best Thai in town
This was my first time going to a Thai restaurant and trying this type of food. This place was beyond my expectations! The food was so favorable with all the right spices. I really liked the mango chicken and I recommend trying the deep fried banana at least once. The staff was very friendly, I will definitely go back here again soon!
Customer service there was impeccable but the food definitely could have been better
We eat at the restaurant often. Today we decided to order with Ubereats. We left special instructions to pls make the appetizers mild and basically appears they over looked the note. The Veggie Samosas were spicy. I understand most Thai food has SOME spice but certain items you should be able to request no spice. This is a deal breaker for us, a long with the high prices, I'm afraid.
I visited this place looking at reviews but disappointed. The service wasn’t good either. They were just riding for orders and to clear dishes after that. They didn’t even serve sufficient water for table.
They never pick up phone. If you order on phone, they don’t speak nicely. If you go to pickup they don’t greet. They will talk to you with frustration on face. Finally If you don’t tip for a pickup order, they don’t say thank you. R
The food here was excellent! I tried the panang curry and absolutely loved it
The best Thai food! The pad kee mao omg thai spicy hits everytime! ❤️❤️
I CAN'T BELIEVE IT! AFTER EATING THE FOOD, I FELT EXTREMELY SLEEPY. IT'S LIKE THE FOOD WAS DRUGGED OR SOMETHING! AND GET THIS: 4 OF US HAD THE SAME EXACT EXPERIENCE!
Yellow curry is good. In terms of service and cleanliness not even above average.
I have visited the restaurant several times. The quality is not consistent. Especially during peak hours, food taste deteriorates significantly.
Food is extremely tasty. We liked all the dishes we tried. Crowded and we felt rushed out of the restaurant. Atmosphere is ok. Felt portion sizes were somewhat small for the price.
The best Thai in the whole US so far. Definitely the entire bay area.
Easy parking, seating can be tight during peak hours. Eating in always tastes better than takeout / delivery here.
Food was ok. Place can use some cleaning.
I ordered food without onion and garlic and I just double checked before taking my order back home and the staff that was assisting got mad saying I asked her 10 times. I never asked that many times and I’m only asking because I need to make sure the order is correct before I take it. Please improve your service!
Tried pineapple chicken fried rice, was really disappointed with Taste.
The food is always a hit. You can't go wrong with chicken pad thai, pad prik king and the red curry. You must get the crispy fish! One of the best Thai restaurants I've had in the area.
Sala Thai is a bit of an enigma. From the outside, the large, unassuming building looks almost deserted. It wouldn't be surprising to think it was closed entirely. But step inside, and you're greeted by a bustling crowd. There's no outdoor seating here, so be prepared to dine indoors.
The interior is a far cry from the vibrant, colorful decor you might find at other Thai restaurants. Sala Thai keeps it simple, with a standard restaurant feel. They offer a QR code for online ordering, but we had a server who took our order efficiently. Service throughout the meal was fast, yet not overbearing.
The food itself was decent, but nothing extraordinary. The roti canai, for example, arrived looking a bit plain, but the taste was okay. The accompanying peanut sauce had a nice tang to it. The mussaman curry was also just alright. The curry itself was flavorful but a bit skimpy on the tofu. A side of rice seemed like a necessity, but unfortunately, it came out undercooked. Pad kee mao was very bland, so my friend had to ask for chili sauce on the side. The Thai iced tea was good but a bit watered down.
Overall, Sala Thai is a 3-star experience. The food is decent, the service is efficient, and the prices are reasonable.
Soggy fried rice could have been unprepped pineapple.
Unlike other Thai restaurants, they had a few unique dishes. Great good.
Food is amazing and ambience is good.
Ordered pineapple fried rice and veggie red curry.
Wide selection of vegetarian options.
Pad Kee Mau had actual spice and tasted wonderful, only regret is not asking for condiments, chilli garlic mightve been divine as an addition. There's a 18% service fee if you dine in with 4 or more people so be aware.
Very flavorful Thai food. Ordered the Panang curry and Pad Thai. Both were good portion sizes and the flavor was spot on. Also ordered the crispy garlic fish. It was good too.
Authentic and delicious thai food
Very disappointed
Ordered group meal at this location since the other location were closed. They were not ready by the time I got there( we have lunch limiation) secondly, they are very cheap in giving you utensils unless you asked? (I don't even have time to ask as I was in a hurry) ordered about $250 and they don't even want to give us utensils or extra bags. Food quality are so bland ,not good. Their pad thai noodle stick together and not in noodle string.
Food is great.. not a big fan of Thai food but I loved the food here. Everything is amazing food, service, ambiance. Highly recommend
The food is good and priced appropriately. The atmosphere was ok. A bit noisy.
A reliable Thai dining option in Fremont!
While they have multiple locations throughout Fremont, I find myself consistently drawn to the one on Stevenson.
The crunchy green beans were an interesting surprise, served with ketchup--a departure from what I'm accustomed to. Though the fried aspect wasn't too overpowering, I anticipated a salt and pepper flavor akin to chicken wings, which left me wanting more in terms of seasoning.
On the other hand, the pad see ew was delightful! The broccoli was perfectly cooked, maintaining a satisfying crunch, and the noodles offered a harmonious blend of sweet and savory flavors.
The crab pad thai was a standout dish, boasting a delightful sweet and slightly sour profile. Generously portioned with ample crab, it made for delicious leftovers.
The service was efficient and direct, with minimal server-customer interaction due to the use of a QR code for ordering. Additionally, they provided each table with their own water container.
Despite the bustling atmosphere and packed seating, with an additional section opened up to accommodate the influx of guests, we were seated promptly. The ambiance was lively, with numerous families celebrating birthdays contributing to the overall noise level.
If you're in search of a dependable spot for Thai cuisine, I highly recommend giving this place a try!
one of my favorite restaurants, outstanding food
The seating is a little tight but the food was excellent so... 👍👍👍
The first thing that struck me was how crowded the place was at what I would consider late in the evening. Because there were just two of us, we were seated very quickly, handed two menus and left to figure things out ourselves. The menu was a bit confusing as this was the first time we had come to this place. Our waitress came and took our orders and to our surprise our food came fairly quickly.
In retrospect, the food we were presented was tasty and well-prepared. For a place that moved like a "fast food joint" I felt like there was a need to move guests quickly in order to turn tables around and accommodate more guests. This was the only thing that made me rethink my opinions of this place.
I would hesitate to return to this place if only to sit down for a meal. This place would probably be best indicated as a take out place because the food is good. As for the ambiance and welcoming nature, I'd hate to say that I felt like I was just another number and that they had to push me in and out of there as quickly as they possibly could. This also reflected in the attitude that some wait staff showed during our stay. Some of them were constantly checking on us like "are you done yet? Did you want your bill? Anything else I can do for you, if not to say you're overstaying your welcome? (That part is just how I was made to feel.)
If the place were brighter and the tables placed such that it would feel so cramped in the location, it would have a more welcoming feel. However, the gloom I felt when I entered could have made me just look for another place to eat had it not been a later time in the evening that we came to visit. I would have to say that the food was the saving grace in my opinion. Change the ambiance provided and it would be rated much, much higher.
My go to thai restaurant in the bay area. I’ve been going to this restaurant for more than 10 yrs now. My fav are pineapple friend rice and crispy fish.
Food is excellent and reasonably priced. I suggest for the owner to impose on food preparers and cooks to wear hairnets. We returned 1 order yesterday due to human hair was found on it. They gladly took care of it!
Excellent place to have dinner. It's a small restaurant but worth it. The food is excellent. We had 5 different plates, and the food was excellent.
Always yummy! Get the crispy garlic fish
Surprisingly good Thai food in central Fremont. Arrived right when it opened and the place was packed within 30 minutes. Locals know a good restaurant!
Still #1 Thai food in Tri-City area, after so many years!
While the food is great wait times are long.
Family style meal for 4 adults + 2 children. Each dish was good. What prompted me to leave a review: 2 curry dishes were served (not pictured), and a few minutes later, the waitress said they weren't for us, and we watched her throw them both into a bus tub. That seemed unnecessary, why waste it all?
Very average to bad food. Small portions and service is nothing to remember either.
The food is good, but I would say, not very authentic Thai. The service is amazing. We came at 6 pm on a Saturday and it was crowded but the waiter and waitress are super friendly.
I had the pineapple fried rice, I think it is a little too much "tumeric" flavor and not much of the authentic "pineapple". The tom yum soup is amazing and I recommend to order a bowl of rice to go with it. The angel wing is fun to eat.
A little note is that they don't accept Apple Pay so bring you card or cash.

Not at all recommended for vegetarians. We ordered basil fried rice with tofu and we got no tofu. When we told to staff she took our plate inside and came back to show us 1/4 inch of tofu piece after spreading rice in our plate. First of all who takes the customer plate inside the kitchen and is giving a 1/4 inch tofu in an order of basil fried rice entree is justified?? When I told I am disappointed the staff tried not to ask for anything, no eye contact.
Though basil fried rice was tasty. The roti canai and panaang curry were below average. Even panaang curry has one tofu piece.
Will never visit again. There are so many Thai places around and these guys are the worst service I have ever received in any Bay Area restaurant. Worst food and worst ambience and even worst service.
Not bad, just okay. There are better options out there.
We felt SO rushed to leave at this place! That was strange considering there wasn’t a queue outside, nobody was waiting for a table. We weren’t done, and the servers seemed to be in a hurry to remove the plates! The Thai iced coffee wasn’t too sweet, it had some kind of flavor. The jolt of caffeine was missing. The crab fried rice was pretty good. The curries were mild and sweet .
One of our favorite places to go-to for Thai food.
Prices have gone up … quality well …
We ordered roti kanai and it was basically frozen kawan parantha .. it was served with peanut sauce the size of takeaway condiment bowls you get in fast food restaurants . It was a total ripoff .. if they don’t know what roti kanai is just remove it from the menu instead of serving kawan parantha ..as roti kanai and then charging 7 dollars for it as well .. this place used to be great … what a pity … I am not going back .
Omg this place is amazing. The fried fish with garlic sauce is definite one to order. It’s interesting how every table always has 1 plate of the fried fish. It’s worth every bite. Love love love the fried rice and chicken satay. I would recommend that as part of the menu and the peanut sauce that goes with the satay is their own made which is delicious.
Best crab fried rice, full crab flavor but a bit oily. Very good pad see eiw with all noodles nicely coated with sweet sauce. Yellow curry pork had a nice balance of curry spice, coconut cream and sweetness; small portion on protein. Roti Canai was just ok; soggy with oil even though it looks well toasted. Pra Ram chicken had good peanut sauce, sweet and salty combination.
Great service and good flavor. My favorite is the fried rice.
You must try the crab fried rice.
Very good pad Thai and prawns. Friendly service.
Delicious highly recommend in the Bay Area
We've come here multiple times. Before Covid, the price was very affordable but after Covid, the price has gone up to normal (or a little bit expensive) side.
You place order online and they'll bring food over to your table. What we ordered:
- Crispy fish with sweet garlic sauce: $18.95 this one goes really well with Pad Thai. The fish is scripy, moist, flaky. It's on the sweet side.
- Pad Thai: $15.95 very delicious and generous portion
- Pineapple fried rice: $16.95 just okay, don't recommend
- Basil fried rice: yummy, flavorful. Preferred this one over pineapple fried rice.
Food came pretty quick and service was decent.
If you're looking for this kind of food while this is your place. Do not go anywhere else it's fantastic
I had the eggplant with chicken lunch special which was very nice, quick to serve, prices versus amount of food and ambience was on the higher side for regular lunches/dinners.
Great pad thai restaurant. Good fit for vegetarian too.
My family's goto place for Thai food in Fremont.
Really wanted to like this place based on great reviews by my friends but the food here was disappointing and I would not come back again. I’ve had a lot of authentic Thai food places both in the bay/SF and abroad and this place doesn’t do Thai food justice. I asked for recommendations from the waitress who only recommended the fried fish and nothing else. I already planned on ordering the spicy fried fish, and additionally chose to order the duck curry and pad kee mao. Unfortunately the fish was nothing special. It had a nice fry but tasted bland. The sauce was also underwhelming, which was a mixture of some chilis and fish sauce, but really felt like I was dipping a bland fried fish in a sad mixture of sauce. 3/5. Disappointing since this is their most “signature” dish. The pad kee mao was alright, being sweet and spicy but tasted average, slightly above average at most. The meat in the duck curry was overcooked, tasted dry and had a strong unusual taste that made it feel like it was old duck. The flavor of the curry itself was fine but was ruined by the meat quality. Overall I wouldn’t recommend this to friends - the food was not authentic nor memorably good, the prices were not cheap, the service wasn’t great, and I think there’s just many other places to spend money at instead.
Nice food. Value for money!
Came here twice after my two trips to the Peak of Fremont for rock climbing sessions. Somewhat long of a wait but nothing to worry about; you’re usually seated within 10 to 15 minutes. Got some angel wings to start, Pad Thai, drunken noodles, and basil fried rice for three, and Thai iced tea for drinks. The iced tea was by far one of the best I’ve ever had but the entrees needed more love (we were missing ingredients). Even then, the setting was cozy and it felt relaxed. I’m sure that coming again would be better than the last.
We tried the crispy fried fish, tom yum soup and the fried rice. The fish was awesome and the soup and fried rice were also yummy.
Excellent drunken noodles. Careful, the spice meter is calibrated high here!
This place never disappoints us They have what we want great menu good colors and fabulous mixtures
Appetizers were delicious ( Angel Chicken Wings both creative and delicious ) and my Pad Thai was perfect. Will definitely go back.
Very bad experience. Don't use QR code to order for dinning in. Pay first before serving, but the question is, how can I know how much tips I should pay before serving??? The waitress kept taking our dishes away while eating and seems push us eat faster…Anyway, rude service and highly NOT recommended!
The place was nice, people friendly. However, I was very disappointed by the panang curry. I love most Thai places, which made this particularly disappointing.
The Tom Kha soup also wasn't great.
Wife liked the eggplant dish, which I thought was quite oily.
We also had a mango rice, which my wife loved.
Came here for dinner with two of my friends and we ordered two dishes for us that were sufficient, but we weren't too hungry anyway. Everything was good, no big issues and I wish I could've tried more items on the menu. The fried was a little salty to my liking but I loved the pad see ew. The sauce was sweet and I loved the bounce of the noodles. The waitresses were very nice, asking us if everything was okay and offered to take our order even though you could order online through the QR code and pay through there. So if the "traditional" way is more your style, they still have it. I would come here for lunch with my friends again.
I would get the pad kee mao (drunken noodles) with tofu & no eggs. When you get it spicy, it really is spicy! Very good
A restaurant offering Thai cuisine. Usually crowded on weekends. Advance reservation recommended. Basic seating and decor. Food is excellent. Adequate parking available.
Not a good experience.
Did liked multiple dishes.
Noodles had fish oil making it smell stinky and pungent while eating.
Basil fried rice were average.
Spring rolls were very oily.
Thai tea wasn't good either.
Roti pieces were costly at $7.
Angel chicken was fine but very oily.
Sauces weren't good either.
Overall rating: not going to visit here again.
Washrooms were dirty and stinky with rotten onions placed on a stool near dustbin
Food and service is excellent! Deserved to get 5 stars.
Solid roasted duck curry
I was making a stop in Fremont after a trip and brought my cousin to eat here. We're Thai and after a week in Europe, I was craving some rice. Decided to come here after seeing an over 4 stars rating. Ordered the duck curry and Basil chicken., disappointed in both. Curry was way too sweet and Basil chicken had no flavor. The server asked if we wanted both items spicy, we said yes. Neither items had any kick to it...we had to adjust the flavor with the chili fish sauce that came on the side and we managed.
This place is a hidden gem. We ordered pad Thai and green curry with coconut rice. The pad Thai was amazing and it left me wanting more. We moved from Singapore to San Francisco 1 year ago and this place managed to serve some authentic Thai food. It was take away order ready in less than 10 minute. The staff was super nice too :)
Great food!!
Clean and cool on a summer day! There is a waitlist on Thursday for lunch at 12:30pm.
Very delicious Thai food in downtown Fremont. Plenty of seating available.
Order using a QR code (for large parties of 2+ tables , you may need to order via a server). A table usually seats 4 people.
Serves chicken, curry, and other meats. Great for lunch and dinner.
👍👍👍
It's Friday afternoon and we as a family decided to go for lunch here. It was pretty crazy even though we reached around 2 pm. The server seated us with menu cards. We were so hungry that we knew what we wanted hence when the server came to take our order, we ordered drinks, such as Thai ice tea, soda and water. For appetizers we ordered roti canai (parata) and for the main course we ordered Basil fried rice with chicken, Drunken noodles with beef and a panang curry with chicken, we also got brown rice with garlic - something different than my usual coconut rice. Everything was served well on time. We really enjoyed the food, it was delicious except that I didn't like the side rice with garlic that much. After our lunch we ordered dessert, mango with sticky rice and fried banana with ice cream. Since it's the season, the mango was so delicious and tasty. Everyone enjoyed the dessert as well. I was coming here after a long time, I think my last visit here was pre -pandemic and I really enjoyed everything about this place. I will definitely recommend this place for good Thai food.
I ordered the garlic rice, and the crispy fish ! The food was too delicious to document.
