No-frills counter offering classic Thai cooking in the convenience market of a gas station.
Probably my favorite local nondescript restaurant in the Birmingham area. With the severe lack of variety in Asian food, this is a gem. Can’t really go wrong with whatever you order, everything tastes great. Parking can be tough during peak hours but it’s manageable. Calling in can be tough too, but if you can’t get in, just go there, order and wait.
I’ve always been a fan of the delicious Vietnamese cuisine at Blue Pacific, with their fried rice standing out as a true highlight. The flavors are spot on, showing their commitment to quality, which has impressively maintained even after the challenges brought by the pandemic. However, the lack of indoor seating is a downside, especially during unfavorable weather conditions. It would be greatly beneficial if the restaurant could reintroduce some form of indoor or sheltered dining to enhance the overall experience. Despite this, Blue Pacific continues to be my top spot for exquisite Vietnamese fried rice.
No-nonsense hole in the wall Thai place in a repurposed gas station convenience store. Placed an order for pickup for lunch on a Saturday, and it was ready when we arrived (about 15 minutes frok call to pick up). Staff was friendly. Appears to be some seating indoors, but it wasn't open when we were there. Also some picnic tables outside.
Ordered chicken pad thai, veggie pad pak, and 2 spring rolls. Rolls were excellent, and the pad pak and pad thai were very good. Certainly can't beat the prices!
Great food and friendly service. Definitely a hole-in-the-wall location but that’s what makes it great, right?
- We had to sit outside because the inside tables were stacked up (possibly because they were cleaning floors or just didn’t want anyone sitting inside.
- You have to buy bottled water, no tap water available for free.
- Would definitely come back again!
I came here because I’m a fan of Thai Food and because of the amount of good reviews (that’s always something important for me to make the decision of whether or not to eat at the place), but definitely not worth it. I tried 3 different plates (Basil Fried Rice, Rad Na Noodles & Pad Si Ew Noodles) and all of them were a 5/10 in flavor. I have tried a lot of Thai Food places with better flavor and even prices. Also, I ordered all of the plates with “combination” of meats what were supposed to include beef, pork, shrimp and chicken and I only found in my rice 2 pieces of beef, 2 pieces of shrimp and everything else was CHICKEN. I went in and let the owner know and he started to stir my food with a fork looking for the beef as if I was lying, then when he saw that it was true he just took my rice and threw it away with attitude and without even asking to make me a new one, when I just wanted more of the missing meat because my intention wasn’t a new whole order (I hate wasting food). And if the intention was making a new order and threw away the current one, you should at least leaving it to the customer, that speaks better of you as a business than just throwing it away and wasting it, at least if the mistake was yours as a business.
Other than that, the other staff were kind and nice.
This is an edit to the review below. The Pad Thai is the only dish I eat here. I give 5 Stars when I think someone goes that extra step, like the egg net they used to put on this dish. Not sure why, but they don't do this anymore. Too bad, it made a good place, amazing in my opinion...... I try Pad Thai everywhere I Go, and Blue Pacific absolutely has the best in my opinion! Hole in the wall actually kind of looks like a gas station, I think it used to be a gas station. Totally worth the trip!
We order out at least once a week. No complaints. Only two 👍 up
Acceptable place. Good food, no atmosphere.
Sam and his staff are exemplary people! Oh and everything on the menu is excellent! My personal favorite is Pad Thai..
Food is delicious. Authentic Thai and we loveee Sam!
Great food and customer service! Definitely a hidden Hoover food gem. The parking lot can get quite crowded and hard to navigate when it is busy, so be aware of that.
Food was amazing! Hands down one of the best I’ve had. Would highly recommend.
Beyond all expectations! One of the best restaurants in Alabama. Long live Blue Pacific!
A hole in the wall. No inside seats as pictured and only three outside tables. Most people picked up food. Food was ok, but not noteworthy. Drink selection very limited. All service was in a disposable containers with a plastic fork. Doubtful that I'll return.

Best Thai food around. I'm addicted to the Pla Kung!!
We have placed order for to go and ordered Basil fried rice, person who was taking order confused us and took order for Spicy Basil fried rice. We realized wrong order, got tofu sauté, fried rice, fried egg separately was expecting fried rice with scrambled egg and tofu. We called back to them, for replacement. Their service is so bad, they didn’t offer replacement instead they were saying we have ordered wrong dish. How can be the basil fried rice and spicy basil fried rice completely different? Didn’t expect this from them. Please be careful while ordering fried rices
This the best Thai food I’ve ever had and one of my all time favorite places to eat. Don’t miss out!

The best pad Thai in the city
Deserves a 5*. I love this place.
I’ll never go anywhere else for pad thai, they are the best!
I have been to this place multiple times and they are closed nearly every time I go there. Tonight I tried to call to place an order for pick up. It was busy for at least 20 minutes before I could get through, and then they told me they had already sold out of chicken wings 20 minutes after opening. Talk about overrated! It's not even a nice environment, and you have to buy your water separately . You have to place your order at the counter, and pick it up there. I'll take Surin West a million times over. This place is far too inconvenient for me to entertain anymore. They obviously don't know how to manage a business.
Some of the best Thai food in the area
I've been going here for years. The food is the best and most authentic Thai/Asian food I've ever experienced. If you're a fan of curry, you'll find none better. A few years ago this place was rated as one of the best hole-in-the-wall restaurants in the U.S. and they continue to be so. Truly a gem worth driving to get.
Genuinely the best food in Birmingham, Al. I have genuinely no notes, I've been here time and time again, never have I been disappointed in any way. The food is consistently satisfying, fresh, and hot. It's such a comforting place, repurposed gas station run by the same people every time. I will always come as much as I can. The owners, cooks, and FOH workers should all be proud of the quality of food and service they deliver!
Absolutely recommended!!!

Pulled up on a Saturday night to an empty parking lot. Definitely not what I was expecting to see based on the reviews. There was an open side on the door but lights were off and door was locked. Very disappointed not to be able to try this restaurant.
Great food
I'm just glad this place isn't located in Thailand, because I was starting to worry about how much it would cost to fly over there every week to eat this.
The Spicy Basil Pork was incredible - rich, deep flavors with herbs and spices. Also the Pad Thai with Chicken was unique - sweet and earthy - a good contrast to the Spicy Basil Pork. Don't miss this gem.
Next time I want to try the Phat Si Ew.
I'd heard so much from friends about this place and, as far as Thai restaurants go in the area, it blows them all out of the water. Granted, that's not super difficult to do because, like any East Asian restaurant in the Bham area, none of them are authentic.
The parking here is horrendous and getting out of the lot at rush hour when they actually opened was a nightmare. However, their prices are reasonable compared to other places with equal caliber food and similar portions. I paid $20 for a namtok entree and an appetizer of wontons.
The only real reason for the missing star was that the wontons were just a lot of puff pastry and no real substantial filling. The namtok was delicious, though. I was hoping they might have some sort of Thai beverages, either canned or otherwise, but they were all coke type products.
I'll definitely be back but will ask for something spicier next time. I asked for the entree to be made spicy but it was still only about a 6/10. Worth going back for a 2nd time, though.
Oh, heads up. There's nowhere whatsoever to sit so they literally run it out to your car while you wait if you don't call in ahead for pickup.

Fast service. Amazing food. No complaints
The service is exceptional. A family operated restaurant within what appears to have once been a neighborhood store front.
The prices are fair for the portions served. The food holds flavors of true Thai homecooking. The fried dumplings are mildly seasoned but the dipping sauce adds a punch of flavor. The noodle dishes were stir fried with meat and vegetables and the entire dish was packed with flavor.
If you are looking for good food for which the majority are priced under $ 10 per dish. Must be willing to wait for true authentic Thai flavors, this place is definitely for you.
Great food, and super friendly family that runs it. Cant recommend it more. Would give 6 stars if it was possible.
This is my new favorite place to eat. I usually get the pad kee mao with beef and add a fried egg (trust me the egg is a great addition). Its like noodles with vegetables and beef. I tried the other noodles, which are also good, but the sauce in this one is the best.
Or i get the panang chicken. (its like the thai version of butter chicken almost). Its really good, and i think its a safe bet if you are new to this type of food or a picky eater.
And the spring rolls are pretty legit as well.
There are other items i have not tried yet - but i already have my favorites and i hesitate to try something new.
My only comments are i wish they were open more days in the week (but i understand they need a break too because the days they are open its back to back orders - super super busy).
And i wish we could sit inside - but i also understand they are super busy so it doesnt make sense from their perspectice to support that function - the model they have already works.
Another comment; is that sometimes it is hard to get a call in. You call over and over again and you get a busy tone. (because how busy they are) Worst case scenario is you show up and place your order and wait for it - which is not too bad if you can find a parking spot.
you know the place is good when all your complaints are about how busy they are lol!
Note: if its you first time eating here - dont be weirded out by the gas station vibes. It looks sketchy - but the food is absolutely fantastic.
Best authentic Thai food in the city!
Excellent Thai food. Can't wait to go back.
Delicious Thai food. I used to eat here in college (~10 years ago) when it still was a gas station. Recently was back in bham and had to go again. SO GOOD STILL!!! I love their pad Thai, curries, basil fried rice, etc etc. highly recommend
I finally went. Got there just before they opened. It was sketch, not gonna lie. I wasn’t sure it was a real restaurant from the outside. Read the reviews again and decided to stay. Based on recommendations from another customer, I ordered the fried rice, spicy basil with chicken and the pad Thai with chicken. Also got spring rolls. I’m a total food snob so I’m hard to impress. I’ve yet to find an Asian restaurant here that made me say, wow! I’m impressed! Red Pearl used to be pretty good to me but I don’t know. I barely go anymore because it’s just not all that. Well, I was really happy with the food here! It didn’t feel greasy at all. Ingredients were fresh. Flavors were excellent. Spring rolls were spot on. I got there early which I’m sure was a good thing. I think I waited in the car maybe 15 min to get my order? It wasn’t terribly long. I’ll definitely go back. It lived up to the reviews.
My recent visit to Blue Pacific introduced me to their array of Thai dishes, presenting a journey of flavors that was both enjoyable and memorable. Nestled in a cozy spot, Blue Pacific offers an inviting ambiance that pairs well with their culinary offerings, making it a pleasant dining destination for anyone looking to explore Thai cuisine.
The food, I must say, was good. Each dish served was a testament to the authenticity and effort put into preserving the essence of Thai flavors. While it may not claim the title of the best Thai food I've ever had, it certainly holds its ground with a tasteful, well-rounded menu. The dishes were flavorful, with a good balance of spices and textures that are quintessential to Thai cooking.
One of the highlights of my dining experience was not just the food itself, but the value it offered. Considering the quality and portions of the meals served, the prices are more than fair, making Blue Pacific a strong contender for anyone looking for good Thai food without breaking the bank. This aspect alone ensures that I will be coming back for more.
Just the best ever. Fair prices too.
Food was delicious and service was personable, quick, nice. Don’t go here for the atmosphere. This is a to go spot…. And nothing is wrong with that. What it’s lacking in “vibe” food made up with taste. 😋
Expected a positive experience based on reviews, still blown away. I'll be back very soon.
This place is not going for atmosphere whatsoever, but the people are friendly and the food is amazing. Don’t be turned away by the “gas station” aesthetic. After you order, they will deliver the food to your car so you don’t have to be in there any longer than necessary.
Best place in bham.
The food is amazing. I got pad tai beef and fried rice .delicious ❤️❤️
Amazing family owned Thai place. All the food is excellent and authentic.
Panang is delicious, pad thai is the best I've ever had. AMAZING prices. We drive 45 minutes to pick food up, best thai around!
Delicious, authentic and as cheap as fast food. Parking can be a little difficult but it's worth the trouble.
BEST THAI IN BIRMINGHAM!!! The BEST! That’s it. Great food and great people. Every time
The food is incredibly delicious. Best authentic asian cuisine I’ve had in the U.S. I ordered Pad Thai with shrimp, Rad Na with chicken and Basil Fried Rice with Beef. I only wish I found this spot sooner.
Best Thai in Birmingham, maybe best restaurant in Birmingham!
Would not recommend.
Customer service is always so exceptional. Truly kind people! Tried the Ginger tofu from here. It was alright, but not amazing. Same for the pad thai. I’m guessing their popular dishes must be the spicy ones. Very unfortunate they don’t offer a non-spicy version for those of us who can’t have spicy food due to dietary restrictions.
I LOVE this place!! I’ve been going there for years and I’m So Happy that they survived during Covid. They stay busy but it’s totally worth the wait!! The family that runs it is sooo sweet. My favorite dish is the Spicy Basil with Chicken. Parking is really tight and there can be a wait so be sure to call ahead.
Lived in Bangkok for 3 years. This is the best Thai I’ve found outside of Thailand. Great food. Great people.
Not what you would think of as a Thai restaurant, but this food is amazing.
IF YOU LOVE THAI FOOD. AND U LIVE IN BHAM. U HAVE TO TRY ABSOLUTELY HERE THIS IS NOT AN ADVICE OR RECOMMENDATION THIS IS A COMMAND ‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️ OMG I HAVE ONLY TRIED THE PKM YET BUT I JUST KNOW I'LL LOVE THEIR EVERYTHING............. I'M GONNA GO ON A JOURNEY WHERE I TRY EVERYTHING ON THE MENU. I'M ALMOST GOING INSANE I CRIED CREW AND CRODE because of HOW GOOD THEIR PKM AND THE PERFECTLY FRIED TOFU CUBES WERE ...... NOWHERE BUT HERE‼️‼️‼️‼️😻😻😻😻😻😻😻😻😻😻😻😻😻😻😻
Excellent food, love to eat here when in Birmingham.
Best fried rice I’ve ever had! It tastes like it’s grilled.
Best Thai food in Birmingham/Tuscaloosa area. Hard to get with their limited hours but so worth it. Went today 8/12/2023 and they were closed. I snapped a pic of the sign and as if 8/9 they’re closed until September. Was a real let down since we live in Tuscaloosa and actually made it over on a day they’re posted as being open.
Amazing local gem in Hoover. Best Thai food and the owner is nice. The only sad part about Blue Pacific is how extremely popular it is and it takes forever to get your food but it’s totally worth the wait.
The food was fantastic. This is mainly for take-out. There are a few picnic tables in front of the restaurant.
This remains absolutely one of my top lunch spots in all of Birmingham. I always get the special of the day and have yet to be disappointed. 10/10
One of the best places for Thai food, Family owned and operated. Try calling the place early if you are looking for curries else they are sold out. I love the chicken Panang, it is the best
I have ever eaten, IF you want it more spicy add the green chili sauce. There may be a slight charge for the sauce but it is amazing. Basil fried rice is so flavorful. Phone lines are pretty busy due to a large number of pickups. Overall, small little gem for thai food in hoover. Highly recommend.
The basil fried rice is an absolute must try! By far the best fried rice in Birmingham and perhaps my favorite fried rice period!
This is a very chill place with limited parking/seating and tons of flavorful food and good vibes
Owners are very friendly and the food is phenomenal
Best Thai food in town at reasonable prices. We lived in Thailand 25 years and this is our family's go to place to remind us of "home". The proprietor, Sam, is great! And to the person who only gave a one star review... The girls are super sweet - you were the problem!
Please note: since COVID, only take out is available.
This place is no doubt the best Thai food in Birmingham! Food is amazing!!
Don't expect fancy sit down. Order at the counter to go or sit outside on the bench. It's delicious though and good authentic food. Yum.
Every Thursday I pick up lunch at Blue Pacific. I look forward to this meal and it really is the best meal I have every week. As long as I'm on this earth and Blue Pacific is still around, I will continue this weekly tradition. Food is amazing and the staff is always great.
The best Thai food I've found
Best chicken wings everrrrr 🤌
We get takeout at least once a week. The food and the people working there are amazing!
paid Thai was 👍
Super busy but you can tell that the place is popular for a good reason too . We are from out of town but we’ll definitely stop by anytime we are back .Amazing customer service ,great food, great prices, and not a long wait 10/10
Delicious food! The most authentic and fresh cooked Thai food around Birmingham. Everything I’ve tried has been delicious! Service is quick and very friendly. I’d definitely recommend.
Blue Pacific was amazing! We ate outside on a picnic table! This place is on Lorna Road in Hoover. We had the spring rolls, dumplings, and both had PadThai so delicious! We will be back soon!
Best Thai in the Birmingham area! The staff are so nice and friendly too.
If I could eat here everyday I would. Great food, always fresh, wonderful customer service.
Best thai food in town
Very good!
A hidden gem.....
Would give the food 6 stars if I could
Honestly the best gas station food in America.
Update:
Ordered my beloved Namtok, extra spicey. They killed it and was DELICIOUS!
I will have to agree with several posters about their hours which are only 4 days a week now. I am not sure how you stay in business at 4 days a week.
Also, I arrived at 11:04am today to find Namtok was not available. Chose Laab which wasn't available either as were two additional dishes. So they were open for business yet 4 rice dishes where not available to purchase. I left not purchasing anything.
Now I have never run a business but if open it seems all the menu items need to be available or take them off.
I have really had some good food over the years from Blue Pacific but this is just not acceptable.
Delicious! Best in Hoover
Always delicious food and very affordable as well. I recommend Pad ka tem prik thai for people who like garlic, its my favorite. Parking can be difficult and the wait can be long so go on a less busy day.
Best restaurant in Birmingham!
The food was fantastic. But we had to wait in our car for over an hour till we got the food delivered to us.
Love their food. Order as often as I'm able! You will love their menu!!
I can’t say enough good things about this restaurant. I’ll start out by saying I had left my wallet at home and asked if they would take a check. They couldn’t take a check but the owner told me to pay the next time I come in. This is my first time ever eating here. On top of that, the owner even gave a couple extra eggrolls for my son who is a growing teenager. I will be traveling to come back to this restaurant. They are top notch. I didn’t know it but the gentleman behind me had paid for our meal and didn’t want the manager to tell me. But he did and I am very thankful. I did not see who they were and I could not think of them. So if you are reading this, thank you very much.
Very tasty. No seating, just pick up. Well worth the effort.
BEST THAI FOOD IN BIRMINGHAM. You’ll probably have to order in person and wait in your car while they prep your order but it’s so worth it. Get spring rolls and the basil fried rice. It’s incredible
The best flavors and the taste yummy! If you blink you will pass it. I was skeptical because the location but the panang chicken was awesome. They bring your food to the car is awesome.
Consistently best food I've ever had. Parking sucks but worth it
Best Thai food I've ever tasted!
Never disappoints, food is always fresh.
Gosh, this place is amazing. Perfect Thai food.
Always good. Love the food!
Looks like a dive but don't let that fool you. This place is awesome! Highly recommend it. The food is cooked to order so always fresh. If you want the special of the day, don't wait till late to order it as there's a good chance they will be out. Have eaten here on several occasions and can honestly say this is some of the best Thai food I've had.
FANTASTIC! My favorite takeout place ever. Sometimes busy but always worth the wait.
Excellent take out food.
Best Thai food in Birmingham!
Been rocking with Blue Pacific since day one. Great family, great food! 💯💪🏾
A-MAZ-ING! I have tried Pad thai in the past and didn't think I liked it. Apparently, I just hadn't had the real deal. It was so busy and we waited a lil bit, but it was worth the wait.
Best kept secret in Hoover! Food is always excellent! The owner and the staff are incredible!!
Best shrimp fried rice in town
Great food and it’s cheap but at this point they need to update their facilites. You can’t eat inside, their hours are weird, they randomly close, you can’t place an order over the phone because it’ll never go through, and the last time I went I had to wait 40 minutes for them to give me the wrong order but I couldn’t go back because they were already closed. I love their food but they really need to invest in themselves. They are definitely making enough to make the changes necessary to better their business. Until then I probably won’t be eating here. It’s been long enough.
Awesome, awesome awesome. I have a standing order and have loved it each time I get it. Just order ahead.
They will report August 23rd!! They are not permanently closed. Don’t believe the hype
This is the best Thai food I have ever consumed. Before I found this gem I wasn't a big fan of Thai but boy did they exceed expectations. They are consistent and dishes are price well. They would get 10 stars if I could get it.
Great tasting food at a great price too.
Best spring rolls I’ve ever tried. Crispy and fried to perfection! I live right down the road and I’m headed back to get a few more super tasty and fresh. Fried chicken was amazing with side sauce as well. Best fried rice I’ve ever eaten. My food is always fresh whenever I go to this place.
Just try this place. Seriously THE BEST!
Great food
Some of the best Thai food available in the area.
So delicious! Great service. Always fresh!
This place will blow you’re mind. It’s the best. The owner is very nice and very humble. We have eaten here many times and the food is always consistent.
A MA ZING! Taste of Thailand (a few blocks away) should hang their heads in SHAME! So what if Surin (6 locations) has a liquor license? Blue Pacific is fresher, with mind blowing flavor. I wanna go back now!
Highly recommend. Authentic Thai food for a very fair price. Favorite place to get Thai food
Great food at great prices. More authentic than some chain thai reaturants.
I love that it’s fresh and the portions are awesome. The customer service is awesome 🤎✨
Best Thai food in Birmingham. I had the Pad Thai and Spring rolls today and they are always on point. Call in before you go.
FIRSTLY I WILL SAY ITS WAY BETTER TO CALL AND ORDER AHEAD!
Honestly, I really enjoy Thai food and I have to say. Hands down this is the best Thai restaurant in Birmingham. I’ve never have spring rolls that are as light and crispy as these. Very tasty food hands down. My wife and I will be back!!! I’m happy to of finally found a good Thai place here.
So with the effort to eat here. Outside seating and pick up only right now but the food is excellent and great staff.
Best coconut soup I've ever eaten. All of our food was delicious. Lots of meat in every dish.
Great food, and the atmosphere is welcoming. Just honest people delivering tasty Thai food and beaming smiles
Edit 19-Mar-2022 - only 1 vegan dish available 😢
Excellent Thai cuisine. Everything we tried was superb. They are only doing takeout right now, but they deliver it to your car after you order. Very friendly and fast service. After a few visits, I can confirm everything on the menu is excellent. The basil pork, coconut soup, masaman, pad thai, basil fried rice, spring rolls - all are wonderful. Every dish contains a perfect balance of spice and heat. If you want the daily special, you often need to go early or they will sell out.
As always, good was delicious, BUT Google listing is outdated. There is no indoor dining and no restrooms available. If we had known in advance would have been better prepared.
