THE BEST Thai, the best Asian, maybe the best food period, that I've had so far in Maine. This is authentic, delicious, amazing Thai food. I will be back trying many more options, but you cannot go wrong with the Pad Kee Mao (Drunken Noodle).

A server yelled in my face here today because of a mixup. I was waiting for an order with a milkshake included and she brought out a bag of food and my milkshake. Someone else took the food so I asked “was that my order that he just took?” And she straight up yelled “NO THEY HAVE TO COOK ITTTTT” while making a stirring motion with her hand in front of the whole dining room. Super rude and uncalled for honestly. I work in a kitchen and have worked with customers for 20+ years and have a lot of respect for food service workers so I know this behavior is not normal.

As a vegetarian, it’s really hard to find flavorful quality food in this area. I have ordered two vegetarian dishes from them both times the food was amazing. 10/10. Cannot wait to order again

I absolutely LOVE this place! They have some of the best food around and the customer service is impeccable. Doordash ended up uncharging a soup that I ordered and, without me even noticing, cafe de bangkok called doordash and got me a refund for my meal. The people here are very kind. And it has a gorgeous view of the kennebec river!

Beware! They raised their prices but didn't update the menu! They refused to honor the menu price!!! Bad bad bad! Too bad because I like their food but their dishonesty is unacceptable!

I had ordered from them off of Menufy. On that website it states I can change the pick up person. So, I changed it to my husband because I'm home with the baby. They did not have that information there. It was still underneath my name (did not know this until he got there). He went to pick it up and the woman that worked tonight did not believe he was there for the pick up order. He told her what the order was and that I was his wife who ordered the food. I was told she was rude, I knew this because he was texting me. She then came out with two different orders and tried to give him a different order with a man's name on it. He said that's not my order and she replied rudely and then gave him the correct order. Can you imagine if he had taken that order and the other man came in to get it? Anyway, we got the correct ordered. Food was good, but two stars for the ridiculous rudeness and confusion.

I am sad to write this review. I have been coming here since this restaurant opened(happily) and today I was so disappointed. It was terrible. My pad Thai tasted as if it was store bought sauce, not authentic at all. The sushi was not very good either, the layer of rice was so thick that was all that could be tasted. For the cost of this food I expect better.

Surprisingly great food find in a quiet corner of Maine

I am updating my rating to three stars. Read on, please. Cafe de Bangkok has been bought out again. From what I have been able to find out through quite a bit of research, they got a new liquor license back in April, so I am assuming they opened shortly after. The menu is mostly new, as is the staff. Most of the decor has changed, and we were not able to sit on the deck, don't know how long that has been going on, as we had given up on the place after the last owners. But with new ones, we decided to try again. Unfortunately it is not a whole lot better. The food was pretty good, and the menu has a lot of nice offerings, but the service still leaves something be desired. The restaurant closes from 2:30 to 3:30 for staff lunch. We arrived just before 1, and decided we had plenty of time. This was in the middle of the week. We ordered two drinks, four appetizers, and some rice. It took almost 40 minutes to get all of our food. We were the only customers. We saw our waitress, who was very friendly, twice during our entire sitting. I had to flag someone down to get napkins and a water. At 2:30, someone yelled across the room to us to ask if we were done. We had been sitting for about ten minutes at that point with empty plates. No desert was offered. She brought the check and never came back. We talked about how if they were busy, they never would have made it. This is the exact reason we stopped going to the last rendition of the restaurant. If we had somewhere to be, this would have been ridiculous. I hope the owner reads this and he or she steps up his service, because the food is good. But the service is not. You can't just leave people sitting at their table. What if we had wanted more food? Too bad really.

I have been going here as a staff member at a camp nearby for years, and I celebrated my birthday there this year. Their card machine wasn't working and they first expected me and my boyfriend to go out to a bank (the closest one that was opened was 25 minutes away) to go get money to pay, when THEIR machine wasn't working. In reality, if their machine isn't working (mind you we were the only and last customers of the night), they should just comp the meal. I then left my phone number, name and contact information so that I could drop off money or have someone drop it off the next day. Although I did not feel that this was my responsibility, I sent one of the staff to pay. Since then, I have been back three separate times to eat there and no one has said anything to me nor called me, so I assumed everything was all set.

Today, a month after my birthday dinner there, I received a call from them where they proceeded to SCREAM AND YELL at me about the payment. They claimed I didn't pay, yet I had and either way, it's been a month, I have returned three times since, I haven't heard anything via phone, and I have been back three times. The woman who spoke to me yelled over me while I tried to explain myself, was extremely rude, proceeded to curse at me while I tried to share that I had sent someone, and then she hung up the phone on me. I called back to try and follow up and have a nice conversation to clear the air, but she again yelled over me cursed again and hung up again.

Food was adequate, nothing special. Ordered a full dinner portion and got a small bowl worth of a meal. Service was horrible. Couldn't even reflect it in the tip because they added 18% to the bill themselves. Will only do takeout from now on.

Multiple changes in ownership and issues with dishes since last review. We were disappointed with our last couple of experiences there. If you want good Thai food, go to red curry in Augusta. If you want good food near the cafe, go to lucky garden.

Our food came sort of piecemeal and out of order but it was worth it. Everything was excellent.

We used to really like this place. I haven’t been in a couple of years but our sushi dinner event this past weekend left a lot to be desired. The sushi was sub par (giant chunks of fish, unsavory looking fish, missing items). The service was nice but not appropriate (got appetizers after, couldn’t order extra, not available for more drinks). It was slow in there so it was hard to understand. And when we visited the restroom we had to walk through another restaurant-sized mess (and the bathroom floor was really sticky). We won’t return.

Beware. This place used to be good. They used can't get orders right. Deliver cold food. You don't get what you pay for. Lots of times there missing items. If they would just slow down they may be ok. The night I went they messed up 5-6 orders in a row. They must of had a bad day. I won't be back for a while though

We tried this restaurant Saturday evening for the first time. It was not busy and we were sat immediately (party of 6). Service started out promising, but after our food arrived, we did not see the employee again for a LONG time. No drink refills or follow up, which is wild because we almost all got spicy food. We ended up being at the restaurant for over 2 hours, mostly waiting for someone to come back with our bills. There was a lot of confusion with bills (split 3 ways—3 couples). Our bill was $40, but we just saw our account was charged $93.

The food was fine, but the service was not great and the follow up on the wrong charge was not taken well. We are “waiting on a call back” from someone at the restaurant and went ahead and disputed it with our bank.

Great views of the Kennebeck River and really delicious, well-made sushi. I was very impressed with the staff of women who were working extremely hard and provided good customer service. My only constructive criticism is that they need to fix (or use) the kitchen hood, because the restaurant was too smoky from the kitchen.

This place is Hallowell's best-kept secret. Came here for dinner and was so impressed! They offer a huge menu; everything from the appetizers to the curry and noodle plates were all phenomenal, super flavorful and authentic. Affordable, too (2 apps, 2 entrees, and 4 drinks for under $70). Can't wait to come back and try the sushi!

I find Cafe de bangkok to be the best tasting restaurant in Maine. It's a primitive place with great food. Service is great and beautiful view of the river. There is a wait time because all of the food there is freshly made.

NOT FOOD ALLERGY SAFE!!!
I told the server that I was celiac and needed all gluten ingredients to be emitted from the sushi rolls I ordered. A few rolls in I grew sceptical and double checked the ingredients with the server. The server nor any of the other staff members knew if there was gluten or not admittedly. I asked them to check all ingredients and they were able to confirm that there was infact gluten in ALL THREE ROLLS. Absolutely UNACCEPTABLE. All he had to do was admit ahead of time he didn't know for certain what ingredients had gluten or not. Because of this I was forced to make myself throw up and will probably still get sick. I will never be returning and you shouldn't either. ZERO ACCOUNTABILITY.

We ordered the potato puffs app 7.49 I believe and received 3 tiny fried mashed potato triangles with a hint of other flavors in them w a side of tangy sauce. The sushi roll we got was amazing, fresh and huge.
I ordered a noodle bowl special but the waiter forgot or misunderstood and didn't put the order in. When I finally got it the sauce was so rich I could only eat about 1/4 of the dish. For those big eaters it was definitely a large portion but was missing some acid or something to cut the richness of the sauce. There was only one waiter for the whole place on a Sat. night and he seemed to be struggling to keep up. We were there from just after 6 to about 8:30 & he never offered to fill our water glasses once.

Legitimately just dug into my chicken pad Thai... Ordered extra chicken and was sorely disappointed to find 4 measley peices of chicken. Obviously am disappointed because I paid extra to have extra.

I'm a big fan to the point where I've driven the hour from Boothbay on a whim several times. Coming from the perspective of a Philly girl who is no stranger to good food (and many options), this place is better than a lot of Thai places back home. I will say, sometimes my orders get messed up (it's happened about 3 times) but honestly the staff are all so nice and the food is so good that it really doesn't matter. If I lived closer I'd be here far too often.

I cannot even begin to express how mad I am. We order from here often. The first time this happened, I let it go. The second time, I called and asked for a refund.....never got it. A third time they forgot my salad again!! We order from there a lot and I always check when I go (they forgot one time with me and I went back in) but usually its my partner and forgets to check. Either way, we should get what we pay for and that happens sometimes. They never correct it or try to be better. Good luck running your business that way

Update: after getting over not having my salad. My rice had tomatoes which I asked not to have and they put raw instead of cooked onions in it! Thank you for ruining my dinner and a partial moment of my night.

Such a disappointment. Tiny portions, subpar quality, and the coconut cake was frozen for both slices. Even it was not frozen it still lacked in flavor and quality. Do yourself a favor and pass on Cafe de Bangkok. Paid 70$ for some of the worst take out I have EVER had.

Was able to accommodate food allergies. Loved the food. Was a great presentation. The salad was amazing! The view was to die for! The bathrooms could use some love. I was given the wrong order in my takeout and by the time I saw it was wrong the restaurant was closed called back the next day and was told that they made the wrong order on purpose because they didn’t understand me over the phone so there was nothing they would do. Terrible service and to expensive to waste money here. It’s strange because they did the wrong thing on purpose they won’t fix it. It seems to me that’s exactly when you fix a mistake.

The boba fruit tea however truly tasted like soap and hairspray and the boba pearls had a very odd texture, so I do not recommend that at all, but the rest was totally fine. I will definitely go back if I am in the area again!

The green curry was great but the kao soi was more like pho and they forgot to put the chicken in it. They wouldn't refund me for just the kao soi unless I drove 30 minutes back to show them it was missing the chicken.

My wife and I went in for the fist time. Not many people in side had to wait a few minutes just to get seated. We order an app plus my wife got a salad and I got teriyaki chicken.We waited for probably 30 minutes. They brought out app and my wife's salad. I watched her eat and after she was all done eating we waited another 10 minutes for my dish. I asked if he could just box it up cause I wasn't gonna sit and have my wife watch me eat. The waiter looked at me as if I was crazy. I explained that my wife had already finished her dinner and I wasn't gonna eat and make her watch me eat. The food wasn't anything special. The view was the best part. We won't go back and it's to bad because we just moved to the town. Their loss not ours.

I ordered online and I showed up 20 minutes later, and in the parking lot I saw a lady with an apron on go to her car, and in the trunk she had a big pot of rice. She had a glove on, which she first touched the trunk, then grabs the rice with her glove and takes fistfuls of it to put on a plate (uncovered) and then she brings it into the restaurant. I really hope that’s not what my sushi was made with. I mean I ate the food, so if I get sick I know where it’s from but that was something I’ve never seen… I don’t trust that. I mean it’s 70 degrees out, with the sun blaring in the car, how are you gonna keep food in there??? Anyway, this was my experience.

The Food Was AMAZING, It Was Clean, Not Busy At All, Awesome Veiw Of The Kennebec River, It Was Bright An Open, And They Had A Georgous Salt Water Fish Tank To Look At. Litterally The ONLY Thing That Kind Of Ruined This Experience Was The Service. There Was 2 Or 3 Other Small Tables With 2 People Each, One Table With 4 People And 1 Party Of Ten.....With One Server. Now Mind You, One Of My Jobs For The Last 10 Years Is A Server. Long Story Short, We Waited 20 Min For Our Drinks, Not Receiving All The Drinks We Ordered, Never Got Our Silverwear, Was Done Eating When We Finally Received Our Appetizers, An Watched As All The Other Tables Experienced The Same Issues. The Server Still Managed To Mix Up The Checks, And Didn't Give Us Proper Change To Be Able To Leave A Tip. So My Suggestion Is To Call In Your Order An Pick It Up, You'll Love The Food.

I haven't been here in a while. It was nice to be back. I had the steamed Shumai, Edamame, and a Brian Roll (sushi). It was much less complex, but still a very delicious treat. Next time - one of the duck dishes!

What defines a good meal for us is leaving a restaurant with a smile on your face and having it still when you get home. Our first, but far from last meal here. It tasted amazing and just made us feel satisfied. Couple that with great service and we were sold. Already planning our next visit!

This is some really damn good Thai food! In Maine it can be hard to find restaurants that serve dishes with much flavor or spices. But Cafe De Bangkok has some flavorful cuisine. They have a huge variety of dishes from typical Thai to sushi to vegetarian. Their menu is enormous. They also have some really great beers,mixed drinks and house specials. If you are unsure if you'll like the food or worry about the hotness just ask your waiter. They will explain the dishes and can make them super hot or not hot at all depending on your tastes. If you're anywhere near Hallowell stop in and give them a try.

WORST EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD HERE. 4/16/2022 we went in to have lunch at 230pm and walked out without food or service at 252pm. Over 20 minutes and we werent even offered drinks. There was ONE other table of 4 people being served. The cherry on top was when we walked out and returned our menus no one even tried to apologize, they didnt even notice we didnt eat anything. Just wished us a good evening like we hadnt just been ignored for over 20 minutes. I was blown away by the lack of attentiveness. I've loved this restaurant before but this was truly horrible.

Never had a issue here. But I got the worse food poisoning of my life hear. From the sushi. It was pretty easy to narrow down since I was in a hurry yesterday. So my first meal of the day was this. Will never order again from here. When I saw the salmon not look super fresh I should have went with my gut n threw it away. No thanks

I've been getting takeout here quite a bit the last few months - their drunken noodles are really exceptional. Drunken Noodles are my absolute favorite, so any restaurant that can make them well has my approval.

Their tempura and spring rolls are also excellent!

The staff here is very friendly and treats everyone like family. I have been here numerous times, and even on the busiest nights, they are very welcoming and helpful. I ordered online yesterday and forgot to select a protein. Rather than guess, or wait until I got there, they called me immediately and asked for my preference.
This restaurant looks a little run down inside near the bathroom, but I am not sure if this is due to the pandemic or not. It looks like it used to be a large-gathering room. The normal seating area is clean and everyone is well spaced out. In warmer weather they have a porch seating area that is also available.
The food here is delicious and they can accommodate many different food restrictions. Every time I have communicated spice-level, and food preferences, they have gone above and beyond to get it right. I have many favourite dishes. The fresh spring rolls are particularly good with crunchy veggies and fresh basil. I also really love the mango sticky rice, since the mango is always perfectly ripe. Other dishes I love include basil pad Thai, pad see ew, drunken noodles, and green curry. I really have never tried a dish here and NOT liked it :)

I crave this place everyday, and it takes everything in me not to order it for every meal, and I thought...Why haven't I left a review yet??? Great extensive menu, fair prices, and awesome service. We always get sushi and pad thai, my boyfriend's favorite are the drunken noodles. Love the gluten sensitive options for me, and tofu/veggie options for my boyfriend. never disappoints. Love it for take out, or dine in.

Had the pineapple curry, medium spice level and white rice. They were very accommodating of my request to leave out tomato chunks. Flavor was good and portion size was reasonable

5th dine in visit. always slow service but today takes the cake. i love the food. it's delicious. but the service is awful.

party of 4 for noon lunch. 2 missed drink orders. curry bowl half full as the one next to it. dirty beer glass. soap scum or mold. server did nothing then left the glass. brought a double order of sushi we had as appetizer out mid meal for no reason. We repeated the missed drinks and never got them. then they served 1 of our 4's meal to the only other table being occupied then lied and said it was almost done. Waited 10 mins so clearly they had to remake it.

Tasty lunch at a reasonable price with fast and friendly service and a multi-million dollar view of the Kennebec river from my seat!

The sashimi is always so fresh tasting and the food is really good. It looks out over the river and the view is striking.

Favorite Thai food around, staff is very friendly and food is great! I’d highly recommend the Tom yum chicken noodle!

The Crazy Lobster Noodle special was incredibly delicious.

Ordered through door dash. The dahser was super sweet and got my food to my place at a reasonable time. Usually I go to kume for sushi but I wanted to try something new. I think it's silly how the portion for Thai iced tea is pretty big in the "in restaurant" order compared to what you get in the door dash order. I got the pork katsu, alligator maki and the Maine roll. For $63.32 (Including tip for Dasher) I would expect the lobster to be a better quality. Tasted frozen. The Alligator maki was very fishy due to the eel being on it. So if that's your cup of tea then by all means enjoy. I ate a few bites of the Maine roll, the rice and the pork katsu. It's an Eh for me. But to each their own!

Food was awesome! Some of the best Thai food I've ever had! Wait staff was very kind and food came out quickly. We had the special of the pumpkin curry and the crispy chicken basil. Highly recommend!

Thai style, but not quite authentic Thai taste. Very courteous staff. We enjoyed our dinner.

Cafe bangkok has the best pickled ginger. This time, We had to wait for our take out order to be remade. The staff seemed to be caught off guard (only 20 minutes after they opened) when we asked to have our order for eat in. We requested place settings and still didn't get napkins. Usually the service is slower but very accommodating with water and service. The food is always fantastic including this time don't get me wrong very fresh fish, rice and seaweed wrap. Everything is good here.

Amazing restaurant! As well as having good food, they also have the most authentic sushi I have ever had, truly worthy of more than 5 stars. Hands down my favorite place to eat, would recommend to anybody who likes sushi or Thai. It can be pricey if you're getting sushi, but it is well worth the money, and I have never batted an eye at the bill because of this.

I went out with my peers for lunch gathering. We reserved the out door area (balcony), the place was perfect for social entertainment. The food was delicious, I had seafood salad and and my son had sushi, and we both had something to drink. Our total price was $30 each, the price wasn't so bad. My son loved the restaurant decor they have elephant on the front door and the have a real fish tank with different kinds of fishy. The employees was super friendly and nice 👌
If you are interesting on trying Asian Food, please don't hesitate in visiting the Cafė De Bangkok!

We have never had a bad experience. My wife and I once watched an Eagle catch a HUGE fish from the Kennebec out back and struggle to lift it up and out of the water to fly it away. Another time we went for take out and I forgot to grab our Thai Teas off the counter on my way out. They called my house phone (how I placed the order) to tell my wife, who called me and I was able to turn around before reaching the traffic light. My kids love the fish tank, and the decor is phenomenal. You can tell they really care, and it shows in their food and service.

This was the first Asian food location I have found in Maine that advertised spicy food and delivered.
I had the Lobster Crazy Noodles. It had the perfect amount of spice, with large pieces of lobster claw meat.
My wife had Pad Thai, Sushi, and Thai Tea. All of them very good dishes and drink in their own right.
We will definitely be back.

So sorry that this restaurant has gone downhill. In years past, the food was fabulous with excellent presentation and attentive waitstaff. Today, the flies were more attentive than the 3 employees. Food was mediocre. A soup spoon was not available for the soup and I had to get up and go over to the server’s station to get one. Only one other table with diners there. No server came by to ask how our meal was until we were done and when I mentioned the flies, it was met with a response of giggling. NEVER going back.

The food is perfection here. The Salmon Panang was glorious in flavor, and execution. The salmon was cooked perfectly; not overdone and dry as is almost always the case. My daughter's Chicken Katsu had beautiful flavor and texture, and my Mother in Law's Green Curry was absolutely beautiful. She's not much for foreign foods; and has now fallen in love with Thai Green Curry. I warned her; if you ever get it anywhere else, you'll likely be disappointed, because This is Exceptional.
And I would be remiss to not to mention the beautiful view of the water. And the lovely service and friendliness of staff. We had a very happy experience here today for lunch.

The food was amazing! I had the sushi appetizer and the fish was so good and I had the drunken rice for my entree. It had the perfect amount of spice and the chicken and veggies were cooked to perfection
