We are Thai authentic. If you enjoy spicy foods Please come to try our foods
For our entree we ordered the Thai Boat Noodles and Leng (pork bone soup). Both were great! For dessert we got the coconut milk ice cream and grilled banana dessert. Everything was authentic, the price was affordable and the portion sizes were suitable. Would definitely come back to try other items on the menu.
*One thing to note was that the restaurant was a little cold when we visited (with fans blowing away from us), and so it made our food colder faster.*
Good vibes and I was happy to find this place serving boat noodles (a favorite dish of mine that I had in Thailand). Butterfly pea juice (among a few choices) was a nice free addition for the lunch special.
The soup had a good taste but it didn’t quite match the depth I remember. It could be the day, because some photos from reviews at Mahanakhon look very close to what I was expecting. At least for my serving, the water level looks really high (perhaps causing dilution), the broth not as textury as the photos I reminisce on, and just missing the messy spices I’ve seen dashed around. I would definitely come back to retry as well as give other dishes a look too.
Yummy! The stewed beef hot pot was definitely the highlight - tom yum noodles marked as spicy on the menu weren’t and I think had cooled for a little too long. Everything else fantastic and I would come back. With tax & tip the two entrees, dessert and drinks came out to $40 pp between me and my friend
We got takeout from the restaurant and most of the dishes were flavorful and delicious. The ribs with green chili (Leng) is definitely the highlight! The meat falls off the bone into a rich and spicy broth that will make you crave for rice. Other items we also enjoyed include dry noodles and ka prow moo which were flavorful with a kick.
Don’t sleep on the dessert! We got the itim kati (coconut icecream) and kanom tuay (coconut pudding) and thoroughly finished them both.
If anything, I do not recommend the crab fried rice and a small warning is that the non spicy option is still a bit spicy!
The Thai food scene in Chicago is well-established, but finding a spot that serves Thai hotpot is no easy task. Hence, when I saw it on Mahanakhon’s menu, I knew I had to try it—and I’m happy to report they deliver authentic and satisfying Thai hotpots. The papaya salad was decent. Dry noodles were saucy, hearty, and delicious. But the highlight of my meal was no doubt the mor fai nuer toon (stewed beef hot pot). Piping hot, flavorful, mildly spicy broth paired with succulent, tender beef, satisfyingly chewy tendon, and bouncy beef balls. The veggies, slightly cooked in the broth, offered a nice crunch to the dish. Topping it off was a generous amount of fried garlic, which elevated the dish with its wonderfully garlicky crunch. Definitely hit the spot on a cold day. Service was also great: fast, courteous, and friendly.
I might have just found my new favorite Thai noodle spot in Chicago! The food is incredibly comforting and well-flavored, and the interior is beautifully designed.
During our visit, we tried the Mor Fai Nuer Toon (Stewed Beef Hotpot), which was hearty and generously filled with tender beef pieces, beef balls, and beef tendons. The boat noodles had a slight spice kick with a rich, flavorful broth and a similarly generous amount of beef. The Ba Mee Poo was refreshing and came with sizable pieces of crab meat, while the Khao Soi was well-seasoned, with a rich creamy curry base & tender beef shanks.
I was very impressed by the overall quality of the food, and the well-decorated dining space made the experience even better. I am very excited to return and try more dishes.
I visited this restaurant due to its affiliation with Krung Thep Thai Cuisine on Halstead, which is one of our top-rated Thai eateries in Chicago. While certain items were identical, the Khao soi proved excessively salty. The desserts were the only notable aspect of our experience. The pricing for lunch was exorbitant, and the portions were excessively generous.

Wow, this place is incredible. And so cute! The food was super flavorful and delicious. Really great lunch special prices. Excited to come back!

Delicious! We ordered takeout and had the crispy noodle curry and the spicy edamame and loved them both. All of the employees were really friendly and the restaurant has such a cute cozy vibe.

TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!!!!
This restaurant was a complete disappointment. Some food was clearly pre-made, tasteless, and lacked any freshness. Honestly, I could have gotten better food from a microwave dinner at home.
On top of that, the service was appalling!!! The staff were rude and acted like they couldn’t care less about the customers. One server even rolled their eyes at me when I asked a simple question. The attitude was unprofessional, and it made the entire dining experience even worse.
If you’re looking for a good meal and decent service, avoid this place at all costs. There are much better options out there.
Good service and amazing food! Only place in Chicago I found so far with Boat noodles and raw shrimp! 10/10
One of the best Thai food I had in a while. Khao soy and papaya salad were outstanding! Coconut milk custard is also not sweet. Would love to come back again.

My partner and I went here after a beer stop at Beermiscuous (6-7 mins walk). We ordered Sukhothai Tom Yum Noodles Soup, Beef Balls (in satay form) and Thai Tea. All were satisfying, perfect food after beer time.
Esp. the Sukhothai, it was refreshingly spicy for the soup, generous toppings (including fried tofu balls), and good portion of noodles.
Maybe them and Beermiscuous should do a pop up collab or something.
Food was quite outstanding. Definitely one of the more authentic thai experiences I have had in Chicago. Flavors were outstanding. The soups were a bit on the sweeter side, but the flavors were balanced. Personally I will request them to hold back on the sweetness a bit next time. We got everything from rice dishes, to ground pork, to panang curry to tom yum curry, pretty much all the appetizers and everything held up to the mark. The fried chive appetizer was amazing. The fermented pork sausage was spectacular. The side of thai chilli was spicy as hell. The fried spring roll was OK - it had a mushy inside which we did not love. Everything else - great.
Go here, you wont be disappointed.
I have never had better Thai food. Every bite. Insanely delicious.
OUTSTANDING!!! Sad loss for the Cubs but this place was a BIG WIN!!!!
I was with 5 Thai friends, and one of them found this restaurant online. It is a small and intimate place, and very clean. I ordered khao soi (a spicy noodle bowl) because I had fallen in love with it during a trip to Thailand. My friends insisted I get it with beef, but I had only had it with chicken before. I acquiesced, and got beef. How amazing!! The beef was so tender, and the broth was so flavorful and spicy! There was enough that I took the remaining food home for dinner. I highly recommend it, but be forewarned…it is hot! My Thai friends said it was too spicy for them.
What a gem of a restaurant! Cute interior and super friendly service. Some of the best Thai soups in the city! Standouts were the yen ta fo, khaosoi and Leng (friends say on par with what they had in Thailand with more tender meat). Crab fried rice was a bit salty. We also ordered ka prow moo which was very flavorful.
Desserts were interesting but not all were successful. The ice cream was good but the accompaniments not too interesting. Kanom tuay was a bit too salty so if you didn’t get both layers in one bite, it didn’t taste like dessert. Surprisingly the best was the fried banana.
They’re brand new and we went on a hot day so it was a bit warm in the dining room, but their friendliness more than made up for it. I’m already craving their soups!

The food is so so amazing here, but I’ve now been twice and the service has been short staffed every time. I’ve been on a Sunday night and a Thursday night, and while the servers are always nice, I’m not sure how you can expect one server to handle multiple large parties and several smaller tables at one time. This has led to a frantic server and customers that aren’t helped.
That being said, the food does come out pretty quickly once you get an order in, and is yummy and fresh.
If you're in the mood for some delicious authentic Thai food, this is definitely the spot to check out! I absolutely love the food, the welcoming atmosphere, and the amazing service. I can't recommend it enough!
Highly recommended! Both the food and the service are amazing. When recommending dishes, they considered if the fish sauce used in authentic dishes was okay. So no matter if you are looking for authentic Thai food or safe choices with a hint of Asian flavor, Mahanakhon is a great choice. The flavor and portion of all dishes we ordered was really good. Definitely check it out if you are craving for Thai or Asian food!
Great food & good taste,
Space is limited but great vibes and delicious food! Most authentic experience you can get to actually being in Thailand, in Chicago!
Mahanakhon Noodle Bar is a hidden gem for authentic Thai cuisine! The flavors are vibrant, and the dishes are perfectly balanced.
I had the Khao Soi at Mahanakhon Noodle Bar, and it was fantastic! The curry was rich and flavorful. The crispy noodles on top added a great texture contrast to the soft, tender noodles underneath. The meats was cooked to perfection. Thai ice cream is the best. Very nice presentation.
The ambiance is cozy, Mahanakhon Noodle Bar is a must-visit. Highly recommend the please for a true taste of Thailand!
I had dinner there for the first and it was amazing. The service is nice, they welcome me with a big smile and foods we order were incredibly delicious
Great food and comfortable interior in the wedge space of a corner building! I live in the neighborhood and entering this noodle bar and discovering the larger space inside was a delight, given that the outside of the building looks very small. Don’t be fooled! The food is incredible and I’ll be back for more. I particularly enjoyed the Moo Kra Tiem, which had really delicous pork. The Kanom Tuay (coconut milk custard) for dessert was really really tasty. It comes in 5 little bowls (like each maybe 1oz), so it’s also easy to split with a few people (or enjoy all yourself!). The thai iced tea was delicoius and very sweet. Service was straightforward and attentive, no complaints there.
Incredible food. And the best part is when they say it's spicy, it's actually spicy. They don't hold back and that's all I want.
went for the first time today after noticing its grand opening a few weeks ago. so glad we did.
the food, space (super cute), and service were great. but mostly excited about the food — love to have another neighborhood noodle joint.
had the crispy wontons to start off, which were very tasty (however, no tamarind sauce, but the sauce it did come with worked fine).
i ordered the dry noodles which were excellent and the side soup it came with was a nice addition.
and lastly (since i have a massive sweet tooth and love pandan) the kanom tuay was pretty incredible. already looking forward to have it again.
excited to go back and check out other options on the menu!
I love the noodles 😋
Did takeout. Was perfect amount of spice on top of VERY good flavor all around. Absolutely worth the money
This place deserves more attention. Upon taking the first bite of my food, I decided I would come back soon. I had tom yum noodles: generous portion of protein for the price, the taste was authentic and delicious (personally I believe there's a difference between these two). The service was also great. Instantly became my new favorite Thai place in town.
This is my new favorite Thai restaurant in the city, and it's not your typical Thai spot. If you're craving Pad Thai, look elsewhere. Every dish, from the Ka Praw Moo to the Tom Yum noodle, was incredible! If you're looking for delicious soup, this is the place to be. I can't wait to go back and try the Boat Noodle. The service was also excellent.
Love it, fulfilled my tummy…delicious food.
I just needed to give the restaurant a shoutout. I was so excited to see Sukhothai Tom yum noodles in the menu. I had one in the restaurant and it was AMAZING! I reordered through Uber eats the next day and the packaging was awesome. The restaurant separates the noodles and soup in one package and it still looks appetizing. You can basically eat it anywhere. I also tried crab fried rice and larb I-San which were fantastic. I have already recommended this place to many friends. Can’t wait to go back and try a river prawn!
One of the best new Northern Thai restaurant in Chicago, the atmosphere is intimate and relaxing with Thai music playing in the background. The food is to die for, me and my friend had their Khao Soi, Pad Kra Pow Moo, and Larb Isaan (with sticky rice). The whole meal was just beyond our expectations. Definitely gonna return to this place again.
This place was great - I am so excited a Thai place like this opened up in western Lakeview! I went with one other person to try Mahanakhon Noodle bar, and we both agreed we will be back again. It is so nice to have a Thai restaurant that has menu items beyond your standard Thai dishes (no pad see ew or cashew chicken here!).
I hope this restaurant gets support because I love mom & pop restaurants that provide a cute atmosphere and dish out great food for reasonable prices.
For the food - first off - everyone should try the Nom Yen to drink. It is a sweet, bubble-gum like drink that goes great with the spicy, sour dishes offered.
For appetisers, we got the chive stick and the pork luk chin tod. The chive stick had a crispy skin, with a soft almost creamy center. While fried, it was not oily, which was great. The Luk chin tod, pork meatballs, came with a great tamarind sauce.
For dinner we got tum poo pla-ra, papaya salad with fermented fish and fermented crabs. The papaya was shaved really thinly, which is my preference. It still had a nice crunch. The fermented fish and crabs added a really interesting flavor but not overpowering. This was the spiciest dish, so it helped having the nom yen!
Finally, we had the Sukhothai Tom Yum Noodles. This was my favorite. They had so many different toppings including two different fish balls, roasted cha siu pork, ground pork, dried shrimp, a ramen-style egg, long beans, and a fried wonton (which was great to save for the end). The noodles were cooked well, and the broth was a little spicy, rich, and sour.
Wanted to love this place but the lack of vegan options (couldn’t even substitute to make any of the main dishes vegan) was disappointing. We ordered the vegetable spring rolls and spicy edamame. The spring rolls had barely any filling and the edamame had 0 flavor and even less spice. We probably won’t come back but hopefully they update the menu soon because it has potential!
Great Thai flavors, welcoming staff makes this a fantastic addition to the neighborhood!
Wandering out to grab lunch on Saturday, we decided to try the new Thai spot in the area and very glad we did.
Everything we tried had great flavors: deep savory broth (all three of our noodle dishes had distinct flavors - no repurposing here!), Moo Nam Tok salad had fresh, crisp flavors (highly recommend), wonton were very crispy and tasty. Appreciated that the kitchen took time to ensure each dish was plated attractively.
Definitely will be coming back!
We had a great experience! An exciting menu of Thai street food that was very impressive. The khao soi and ka prow moo were standouts!
Thai street food that separates itself from your typical Thai cuisine. A true hole in the wall gem.
Great flavors in the Som Tum (medium spicy) that is fresh and refreshing. They add a nice touch incorporating green mango.
The leng (pork bone broth) is a dish I haven't seen at any other Thai restaurant. The staff asked how I knew about leng and honestly I had no idea what it was and wanted to try it. Apparently it's a fairly traditional Thai dish. The pork is slow cooked and fall off the bone in a savory broth with a slight hint of sour. It's fantastic and it takes some work to get the cartilage but worth it.
Friendly staff and the cook even came out to chat with us about the dishes.
Overall, most Thai places I think of sweet or heavy salt. Mahanakhon hits all the notes and flavors just right. I'll be back to try more dishes.
Great spot. Food was REALLY good! Best Thai food I’ve had in the city (edging out star of Siam). Everything we ordered was yummy, the atmosphere was nice, and the prices great.
This place is as authentic as Thai can be in Chicago. So authentic that you need to be ready for different flavors. The beef broth is amazing, strong in flavors like cloves, cinnamon etc.
If I have to find something wrong about it is the size of the portion vs the price. It’s not expensive at all, but we had to get one more noodle dish to finally be satisfied.
Service really good and nice decor.
An excellent combination of food, service, and quality. If you’re in the mood of authentic Thai food, this is THE place to go to in Chicago.
Best Thai food in town.
I went there on first day grand opening.
Food was amazing.
