The most Delicious authentic Thai food in town. Come try us !!!
It is a very nice Thai restaurant! The place is small, basic but nicely decorated inside. All the furniture is in very good condition, and every time I go there, the entire place is very clean. The staff is always sweet and friendly, and the service is consistently fast even when the place is busy.
The restaurant’s menu is extensive and includes all the major Thai dishes. I have tried multiple meals, but my absolute favorites are the Cucumber Salad, Crab Rangoon, Chicken Satay, Chicken Pad Thai, and Pad Khee Mao (which I also like with chicken). Plus, I often order Thai Iced Tea, which is very delicious here. The prices on the menu are reasonable. My final bill is always around $25 for one appetizer, one main meal, and a drink. Portions are big and filling. Sometimes I am completely full just by ordering one main meal like Pad Thai. I have never had any issues with the food at this place.
The only negative thing I can mention is the restaurant’s size. It is so small that the tables are very close to each other, making it impossible to have a private romantic conversation if the place is busy; it gets super noisy when the restaurant is crowded. Also, because of how tiny everything is, you have to be careful walking around the restaurant, as there is a high chance of bumping into waiters who move around very fast serving the customers. Additionally, the restroom needs to be remodeled as it is outdated.
The restaurant's location is great; it is right in the heart of Boystown, Chicago. Because it is open until late hours, many people go there to eat after bars and clubs.
I absolutely recommend checking out this place if you are looking to eat Thai dishes!
This place was absolutely fantastic! We dined in and got the chive dumplings, green curry with chicken and the cashew chicken and rice. We came in with zero expectations as we were taking a walk around town when we got here and the smell alone drew us in for dinner. The service was stellar, kept joe rob the waters and super attentive but not too much at the same time. It was a very intimate spot, not much seating so if you tend to struggle with sensory issues try to come when not busy or get it to go. The food was so fresh and PACKED with flavor. Really felt like it was the warm respite we needed on a rainy evening. Highly recommend.
The overall dining experience was decent, although I've had better Thai food in Chicago. The Beef Salad had a refreshing flavor and a delightful spicy kick. On the other hand, the Grilled Squid leaned towards the drier side, although it might appeal to those who enjoy a charred taste. The Black Pepper Catfish was quite flavorful. The meal, while enjoyable, didn't feel outstanding in terms of flavor. The restaurant also felt a bit snug and not the most spacious inside.
One of my favorite Thai restaurants which I ordered from multiple times.
Papaya salad was nice and spicy, loved the wings, egg rolls were just fine, Pad Thai was great, Curry is great (tried the Massaman and red) with rice or with crispy noodles, the one dessert they have (coconut Thai custard) wasn't to my liking at all (doesn't taste anything like coconut).
Been here maybe 2-3 times and the food here had not really impress me. Last time I came and tried several secret menu dishes, including catfish, tom yum hot pot, forest salad. I can’t say that the food was terrible as they had flavors to them, however every single dish was just too salty, my friends and I drank a lot of water. I wouldn’t have given a review if one of the dishes was salty but to have all dishes so overly salted is to me just not good cooking(I have eaten thai food for many years and for sure extreme saltiness is not the main flavor).
This place is a very popular destination and for a reason. It is small with a little feel of authenticity inside but food is beautifully served and delicious. I have seen many times people from Thailand who were eating there and it is a good sign. This place will not fail your expectations. Enjoy!
One of my favorite Thai restaurant in Chicago. Located in Boystown. Authentic Thai northern style food that reminds me when I live in Chiang mai, Thailand. Staffs are so friendly and fun. Always get a warm welcoming every time I visit. Recommend Tom-Sab soup and all Thai spicy salad.
There was black mold on the ceiling and bugs crawling across the walls. Additionally, dust floating around and water glasses having spots on them. The food also tasted a bit weird and we felt ill after we left the restaurant.
Don’t expect a luxury cleaned restaurant, but food is great, homemade and prices are so affordable. I really recommend This spot for a quick stop or take out.
Delicious food and friendly service! They treated me like family.
Great hole in the wall thai place in nice neighborhood
Authentic Thai, if you like it hot ask for the "secret" menu
Love this place. The food reminds me of my time being in Thailand.

Came in one hour before close, quick and super friendly service AND amazing food along with some comfy vibes. 10/10! ❤️
Bad customer service
**“Krung Thep Thai Cuisine? More like Krung Thep Time Warp. I placed a takeout order and apparently entered a parallel dimension where minutes stretch into hours. By the time my food was ready, I felt like I had aged enough to claim senior citizen discounts. The person at the counter? Oh, they had the charm of a wet sock and the patience of a caffeine-deprived cat. They acted like I was inconveniencing them by being a customer.
At this point, I wasn’t sure if I’d ordered pad thai or just signed up for an endurance test in passive-aggressive customer service. If you love long waits, bad vibes, and a sprinkle of condescension, this is your spot. Otherwise, save yourself the hassle and just microwave some noodles at home—it’s faster and comes with zero attitude. Never again!”**
Excellent food, and the staff is good, but for reasons (let's say) everything came at once so I absolutely wasted a lot of money on a soup that came out so late that they apologized for it. Didn't eat it, the curry was too good, but certainly paid for that choice made for me
Very slow, had to wait for just one order more than 20 min while the restaurant is not busy at all
It’s small and not fancy but the food is tasty, staff friendly and service fast.
Food is delicious.
They auto charged 20% for service fee, but I did not feel I got any services.
Pad Thai - 4
Red curry - 5
Tom Yum Soup - N/A because it tasted more like Tom Kha but I thought it tasted good
Fried Rice - 3
Absolutely the best Thai food I have ever eaten. Very flavorful food with great service. They adjusted to our various dietary needs : vegan, veg with eggs and without fish sauce and yet the food was soo tasty! We stayed 30 min past closing time and they still didn’t complain.
I've been here before, and it's always great. Tonight, my wife brought back the jungle papaya salad from here. I was hesitant to try because I've never been a big fan. But wow, this might be one of my favorite thai dishes now. This is such a great place, and from what I've heard from her, it has a great owner.

Last year when I ate here, it was just great. Everything was seasoning perfectly. However this time it’s just salty, nothing else. Too salty that we had to pour water into the soup. And the AC was not on in a 90degree day. It was super hot. Anyways, quality of food decreased so much in the last year.
Krung Thep Thai Cuisine serves up a variety of delicious Thai dishes. From classic Pad Thai to aromatic green curry, their menu is sure to satisfy your cravings for authentic flavors. Customers appreciate the friendly and attentive service. The staff checks in frequently to ensure your satisfaction, making your dining experience enjoyable. The restaurant is small but cozy, providing an intimate setting for your meal. Keep in mind that portion sizes are slightly smaller than expected for the price.
Hole in the wall vibes w/ cute friendly and quick staff. Amazing, balanced, flavorful food (get the boat noodle!) at a fair price. Loud, chattering, BYOB. Great!
Best restaurant in Lakeview? Or, is this Lakeview east? Idgaf. Krung Thep slaps!
Worst experience!!!!
We love Thai food but this place service is terrible we give it 3 tries and the 3 times the
service was the same, food is not worth the wait nor the bad service.
Food was amazing here highly recommended !
Great food and helpful staff... portion sizes
Really liked the food. Decent portions. BYOB place. Small restaurant so Limited seating. Street paid parking nearby. Would recommend.
This place was absolutely fantastic! We dined in and got the chive dumplings, green curry with chicken and the cashew chicken and rice. Had a cute date night here and we had chicken wings for our appetizer and they were honestly the best wings I’ve ever had. The server and staff were super nice and I would absolutely come back
I came here at a friend’s recommendation; Tom Yum soup tasted like Top Ramen soup packets mixed with vinegar. Beef Boat Noodle was just so so; had very little meat. But atleast the Papaya Salad was good.
A bit disappointed; maybe I will come back for the papaya salad only.
We ate here over the weekend after Blue Man. Absolutely order the Bamee Noodle soup. Broth was perfectly seasoned along with the noodles, and the pork belly that came with it remained deliciously crispy throughout the meal.
food was AMAZING but y’all we saw a large roach at the end of dinner crawling on our table and for that I can’t rate it anything other than a 1/5. It sucks because the curry was so good but roaches ….🤢
Amazing food, probably the best Thai I’ve had. Great service 🫶
Best byob place around!
Food good, vibes good
One of my favorite Thai restaurant in Chicago. Located in Boystown. Authentic Thai northern style food that reminds me when I live in Chiang mai, Thailand. Staffs are so friendly and fun. Always get a warm welcoming every time I visit. Recommend Tom-Sab soup and all Thai spicy salad.
I never write reviews but I am compelled to write one for Krung Thep bc it is so good that we would be devastated if it ever went out of business so we need to make sure people eat there!! We order at least once a month and we have yet to get something that wasn’t between great and amazing. The khao soy, the green curry, all the noodles. Eat at Krung Thep!!!
Ordered chicken green curry, boat noodles, nam tok beef, and ped cha seafood.
Boat noodles and nam tok were fine, the beef was very dry though. I was extremely disappointed in the green curry, the texture of the chicken was strange. Seafood here is good though.
The food here is not authentic, and I will not be back unfortunately.
Nice Thaifood in town.
very nice service and people with equally good food!
Amazing food and service! The dining area is small and feels a bit cramped though.
What a great find! Easily some of the best Thai cuisine I've eaten.
The overall dining experience was decent, although I've had better Thai food in Chicago. The Beef Salad had a refreshing flavor and a delightful spicy kick. Nice place and really good food. Wish the “spiciest possible” was actually spicy
They charge 22% of the meal price for mandatory gratuity. The service is just OK. This is ridiculous, never come back again
I think this place serves one of the best thai food in Chicago. Its a must visit place if you in town and best part is its BYOB and the pub is just next to this place.
Please go see my friends Buddy and Sammy and Krung Thep.
The food is phenomenal, the service is even better.
If you're looking for a suggestion- try the cashew nut with crispy pork!
Tom yum fried rice is delicious.
Excellent
best crab rangoon in chicago
Tucked away in Lakeview, this cute little Thai place turned out to be so good! We ordered the chicken massaman curry and fish ball green curry and both of them were so flavorful and yummy! Did have a tiny bit of wait time on a Monday evening, the place seems to have waves of really full and kinda empty. Will probably come back to try other things on their menu and would definitely recommend!
This was the best curry that I’ve had in a while. Get it with the catfish! So good. I’ll be back next time I come to Chicago.
Authentic food from chiang mai!
Very speedy service and the food was great!
Amazing Thai food that brings me back to Bangkok instantly (well Krung Thep is another name of Bangkok). I like Thai place when they do not compromise the kicking and killing flavor of Thai cuisine. This place delivers! The must to order is Tum Pa or the everything papaya salad. The mix of traditional som tam (papaya salad) with plenty of nutty, crispy, and salty toppings makes it fun and flavor boosted. Other dishes are amazing too! The dessert, Ka Nom Tua, is very authentic. We even forgot to take a photo lol. My friend loved it so much that he visited there again after I left Chicago.
Best pad Thai in Chicago! Yum yum yum 😋.
Great service! A night to remember.
Great authentic Thai food, fantastic service.
Disappointed place overall from food quality, customer service and portion.
So many other option, stay away.
Terrible place. The staff is disgusting. Блевать охота от них
Great flavors and dishes can be made vegan.
Loved it
Best Thai restaurant in Mid West!!!
Favorite Thai food in boys Town
I ordered tonight and opted for the delivery to be handed to me...it was left on the front step with no notification... Don't include your tip in your online order so they will actually have to deliver it to you as instructed. The pot stickers were chewy with an odd flavor... The Pad Khee Mao beef with crispy noodles was next. The beef was tough and mostly gristle and the crispy noodles were just wads of deep fried noodles that you couldn't have eaten with the meat. You couldn't separate them. The sauce was good though. The massamun curry with chicken was good. Portions were not very generous considering their once again inflated prices. I've ordered there since they opened... it used to be better. 5/24...Just ordered again...hoping the worked out their quality control... it's worse! Tougher beef in Pad See Ew...smaller portion and less sauce which was bland. Order was not hot. the rest of the order was OK...just OK.
I have been going here with my partner continuously for over 3 years now and have never been disappointed with the food or service.
Small, intimate, authentic Thai restaurant. Would definitely recommend for a cheap tasty dinner! The portions are great and the service was very attentive.
Very traditional Cambodian restaurant
Authentic Thai restaurant. Reasonable price. Sometimes, the taste of your food is different than last time, depending on who is working on that day. Lol. Always get busy. The place is too small, not many tables. Call them before you go, otherwise you have to wait to get a table. No vegan/vegetarian options.
BYOB!
service was great and my pad thai shrimp was delicious. My husband loved the boat noodles! Pricing was perfect too. Definitely coming back next time I'm in that area.
Try the Bangkok Wraps!
This place is very good and deserves 5 stars. Have always gotten delicious food from here with friendly service. My only gripe is there was 1 piece of potato in my curry, but that doesn’t change the fact that you should eat here and the curry was still awesome.
Always topnotch . Ingredients always seem very fresh . There are two parking garages across street also.
Accommodated a large party, and had great food. Terrific apps
Best Thai in Chicago.
Small restaurant, limited seating. Good customer service and great taste. I enjoyed the chicken pad Thai and loved the Bamee noodle soup.
Very nice food. Healthy and tasty.
The staff was so welcoming and the food was delicious. This was my first time at Krung Thep and I’m definitely coming back! I got the chive dumplings and chicken pad thai
Please do not eat here for the sake of your own health!!! We ordered the edamame and received some extra protein (a bug). Truly scared to even open the rest of the food I ordered… I cannot believe they have a food license this is absolutely disgusting!
Later tried to call and ask about the order and the staff was extremely disrespectful and hung up.
3 person dine in and they Self-print 20% gratuity ?
Sorry bro, never be there
That’s another great Thai restaurant in the loop
Good Thai food!!! If you have Thai friends bring them with you they have a Thai menu that is different from the English menu and the taste is good same as in Thai.
Food was good, but the dining room was chilly. They need to do something about the front door.
Super good! But if you don’t want meat in your Pad Thai, it costs $2 to substitute the free meat for extra noodles 😂
Very bad dinner experience. We in advanced reserve people of 7 but come with only 6 seats. The food quality is on average but the serving speed is so low that every other tables which come after our has all dishes ready but it takes a hour for our fried rice to be ready. Even the table next to us (who come 15min late than us) even finish their main dash but we are still waiting for our fried riceThe worst thing is that it automatically charged for 20.7% gratuity. Never come again.
I WAS TREATED LIKE A STEPCHILD— customer service here IS decidedly the most awful in the area. I have been to quite a few restaurants, and the experience I had truly “takes the cake “ for rudeness , disdain and downright disrespect for a paying customer. I have never had an experience of TWO waiters coming up to my table to tell me that I cannot dine in. I had to order takeout, because I had a last-minute appointment at my job around the corner and they canceled, so had gotten considerably hungry and decided to grab a small table in the back and the WHOLE ROW was empty, in fact, more than half the restaurant was empty In addition to the table that I chose- I’ve has to eat in after ordering takeout once or twice before , none of them made a big deal out of it at all and but none of them treated me As this place did! Also , I’m Caucasian, and I noticed that the rest of the clientele were Asian , they were chatting among themselves with the waiter, who was all smiles with them, of course ! They treated me with distain turn right around and very friendly to everyone else! Since I happen to be “well off” and have quite a few rich white friends, I will let them know right now, do not go to this restaurant they don’t like non Asians! I will be letting all of my friends know that this place is “quite prejudiced.” oh, and by the way, the food here is average and outrageously priced. Great combo for fine dining guys! well done 👏👏👏(yes, it is the “American way “ to have sarcasm)
Auto 20% gratuity on the final price on a party of 4 plus a 2yo. First, it is tip on pre-tax. Second, auto isn't 20%. I really want to rate this 2 stars just for that poor taste. AND I didn't even get a customer copy of my receipt... took a picture instead.
And I typically tip more than 20% even for average service which I was going to, so not only their loss but also a terrible after-taste after an ok meal. Not interested in going back.
Besides that... food is ok. Thai tea too much ice and too sweet, not enough tea. Shrimp was cooked well. Chicken slightly overcooked.
Pad kee Mao was good. Tom yum soho was good. Pad thai was ok at best. Red curry was ok. And a last noodle dish that don't remember the name was also ok. Crab Rangoon, better than average.
Not part of the rating...
4 dishes, 1 appetizer... Definitely not enough space on the table. No one else was there (4:45pm). Really wish restaurants would invest in something to improve table efficiency like raisers to atleast lift the plates high enough so people have room to eat. And (although almost all restaurants do this) but there is never enough rice for the curry.
The gratuity also not counted to my rating. Although I started off saying two star but after writing this review, I think I would give it one. But do I want to group this with my other one star review? I suppose I rather eat here than my 1 or 2 star rated places.
Awful and arrogant service
I just had a terrible experience with this restaurant. I called to make a reservation, and bc of traffic I arrived 15 minutes late. While my partner finding a parking lot, I rushed to the restaurant to apologize and ask for my table. I would of course understand if all tables are occupied. But there is clearly a two person table awaiting us, but the male waiter told me to wait. Then two customers walked in without a reservation. The female waiter wanted to lead us to the table but the male waiter showed an arrogant attitude and stopped her. He then insisted to give the table to walk in customers even though I was there first. And then said I need to wait for another 20 minutes. While I asked how I ended up waiting longer than walk in customer, and I swear politely, he threatened to call the cop and ordered me to leave. Is this a mob or a business? You can find good food + service anywhere you don’t need to go to this ugly cramped filthy and dim place. Karma will work and let this restaurant die.
I came here at a friend’s recommendation and I absolutely love it. Great delicious bold thai flavors and decent pricing and service. We ordered:
- thai iced tea (good)
- special pad thai (delicious, love it)
- khao soy soup (best thing ever, addicted, deep flavors of seafood and cream coconut)
- boat noodle soup (my first time trying this dish, strong flavor of beef, slight sour, and varies parts including liver)
On cold days, it’s pretty cold inside the restaurant (especially when many enters and exits) so sit away from windows and keep your jacket on. The restaurant can try having a curtain at the door to maintain heat or raise the thermostat (we requested but no luck).
Great food and service
Ordered takeout/delivery and the food was piping hot and fresh. Awesome, especially flavorful pad sew ew, generous with the protein. All the apps were great as well. My new go to for Thai :)
I’m giving the score all because of the attitude and services. The restaurant was cold and our feet were frozen. We requested to change a spot but the font desk refused and said all the seats were assigned and based on number of people. However we reserved a seat of five, and they put us in a crowded corner, where for sure not gonna fit 5 people. And we ordered the dessert but there’s no apology for not having it anymore. Instead, she just brought the check to us. NO APOLOGY. LASTLY, there’s no mention about the 20% + of service fee, which is not what we are expected. We hope they can at least mention it
Terrible cleanliness, cockroaches climbing on walls, floor and benches everywhere in the restaurant!!! Disgusting, totally ruined our dinner!!
Excellent service. Tasty food. Good value
Good
Good but simply not spicy enough, even after an explicit request for a proper spice level the curry I ordered was a medium at most. Beginning to think there isn't a good Thai restaurant in the entire city.
Delicious food, fresh, clean, good service, impressive! Thai food that I would recommend!!
Adorable little eatery! Service was so quick and the food was uniquely delicious. They were extremely kind and I'll definitely be back :) and Very good, and very interesting food. Definitely worth a visit to try another style of Thai food. very Amazing 🤩(But some food for a special)😍🥰😘 ขอบคุณค่ะ🙏
I got the yellow curry chicken I thought it was delicious
Had the yellow curry with chicken; tasted good but low amount of chicken. Had almost every appetizer and they were tasty!
Amazing taste.
Worst Thai place to eat!!!
Terrible service, cold food and just to make it worst overall the brought the wrong plate ( two timesssss) not kidding, and on top of that they wanted to charge us for that wrong plate that they had to take back twice. They just waisted a beautiful dinner night with my family and friends!!!
Best Thai spot in lakeview. The papaya salads are super delicious. I have liked everything that I have tried. The people working there are super friendly. Worth checking out if you're craving Thai and in the area.
Good food; horrible takeout. It’s around the corner, so I’ve done take-out a few times. The ready time that’s quoted in their email is so far off. I’ve learned this and show up after the quoted time. Today, I was 10 minutes late. They told me it’ll be 5 minutes. 20 minutes later, it was still 5 minutes. What makes it worse is that there’s really no place to wait.
You won't find Thai food in Chicago better than this
Krung Thep is my new favorite Thai restaurant in Chicago (and I’ve tried a lot)!
I've been a happy Krung Thep customer for more than 4 years, often offering two or three times a month. Unfortunately, my most recent order will be my last. I ordered via the Google Maps app because I was driving home from the airport and wanted to place my order via voice; unfortunately, something went wrong during the order and it was confirmed as a pick-up order vs. a delivery order. I immediately attempted to cancel through the third-party app, but they informed me the cancellation had to be performed by Krung Thep. I called Krung Thep, and they said that to cancel the order I would have to call the app, Ritual. I called Ritual and they told me that all cancellations had to processed by the restaurant, and there was nothing they could do. I called Krung Thep again and was yelled at and berated for placing my order through Ritual for more than 45 minutes. They said they wouldn't send the food because delivery wasn't paid for, even though Ritual had already charged my card. Eventually they called Ritual and realized I had already paid for my order, and sent it via delivery as I'd originally asked. By this point, the food was ice-cold. It's a really unfortunate way to end my relationship with a restaurant I'd formerly valued and enjoyed!
Service was awful. Food was not tasty. Ordered Pad Thai. Won’t recommend.
Place was dirty especially the toilet.
This place ruined our evening. Was very excited to try this place with my friends after reading all reviews.
Very bad service and food
Ordered through Uber eats and never got my order. Guy handing out the orders at the restaurant is not checking who he’s giving orders to. Tried handing me another persons order, then when I asked for mine he said someone had picked it up. If you want free food go here and take peoples food, since they’re not checking.
AWFUL SERVICE
Me and my wife went to eat here and I waited a full hour for my food. They informed me that it hadn't been started yet and asked if I still wanted it. I didn't as it was already 8:00 and I wanted to go home. Here is an idea...if you make an error like that it's ok, but you should give a discount on the bill or at least apologize. Will never go back.
It's also cramped and claustrophobic in there, not a good vibe. Will never go back.
My friend recommended this place & I’m glad she did. Best thai food in Chicago!
This place is a very popular destination and for a reason. It is small with a little feel of authenticity inside but food is beautifully served and delicious. I have seen many times people from Thailand who were eating there and it is a good sign. This place will not fail your expectations. Enjoy!
Takeaway:
Best Thai restaurant in Chicago at an incredibly reasonable price (and free BYOB!)
Context:
Two of my international Thai friends brought me here for dinner claiming it was an incredible and authentic restaurant - claiming it would be a "good restaurant in Bangkok". They ordered family style for a group of ~8 of us to share. I've eaten a lot of Thai food (although likely from mostly Americanized spots) in my life and this is definitely one of the best.
What I Got:
Papaya Salad (9/10)
Laab Moo (9.5/10)
Liver Larb (7.5/10)
Moo Ping (8/10)
Crab Fried Rice (8/10)
Kra Proa Moo Krob (8/10)
Khao Soy (9.5/10)
Boat Noodles (9.5/10)
Coconut Thai Pudding (9/10)
One of the best Thai Restaurants I ever was!
Regards from a swiss guy ;)
Great food, friendly service, BYOB.
I went here with my brother before a night out and it was the best Lard Nar I've had, ever. The staff was so sweet and helpful. Would love to return next time I am in the city!
Decent place ! Super friendly staff
Really good food. Iced green tea was delicious. A little over $100 for the 5 of us and we got appetizers. Everyone was very nice and it was a cozy environment. Would definitely come again
My husband and I went on Thursday night for the first time after hearing great reviews all over Lake view, the food was great taste wise, I’ve had better but I think for this neighborhood it’s one of the better Thai places taste-wise. The service was great. We got the Tom yum, Khao Soi and Panang curry.
But the next day we both got violently sick. We had to go the immediate care. I’m Indian and used to strong spices and have a strong immune system, so does my husband, but I think we just got a very very off meal. This was the worst case of food poisoning I’ve ever had. My meal wasn’t very hot but the chicken seemed over cooked and I remember saying this to him. It makes me doubt the food standards here and I will not be returning sorry!
Decent taste, not the best Thai, but got food poisoning after eating here. I do intermittent fasting so this was the only food I had all day. My wife and I both got upset stomachs and loose motions all day.
