Often-busy Thai mainstay offering a broad menu in a refined space that also has outdoor tables.
While visiting Castro Street we decided to try this Thai restaurant and were very pleased with the quality and taste of the food, the service and the environment. The Mango salad with crispy tofu was exquisite. The spicy eggplant stir fry with prawn was also amazing. We paired it with steamed brown rice and after our first few bites decided we will definitely be back to try other dishes.
The food was delicious I enjoyed the green curry I ordered and the pan-fried noodles.
Service: The server was also really attentive to our friends’ nut allergy so I appreciated how they went back to check if the dishes were nut-free. The service can be slow also. We waited a while for our food and they almost missed the last dish we ordered, so expect to wait after you order.
Restaurant: The restaurant has plenty of seatings. They have Thai decorations on the wall which is nice to see. It also looks like they have the tables where you sit on the floor, but those were closed when we came.
Parking: Parking around downtown Mountain View’s not bad. We just parked in one of the lots nearby.
Absolutely delicious food - 10/10!
Just two people- We ordered the noodle soup dish which I think is called the Tom Kha and it was incredible! The spring rolls were also yummy.
Service was a little slow as the appetizer came much after the main but kudos to them for letting us in at 8:30pm when they close at 9pm.
Amongst all the joints, this place felt alive and the reason for picking it. We were not disappointed.
IPA was delicious and fresh. Rice paper wrapped veggies & tofu was a good starter.
Food was excellent. Loved the eggplant main course with a serving of jasmine rise.
There are Indian dishes on the menu to keep it interesting. Rotis and samosa for example.
Place was busy for a Monday. Good service by our host.
I've been to this place more than 20 times. It is easily one of the best places to eat in the Bay area.
My favorites include: Soy Protein Satay, Super Green Curry and Pad Kee Mao. The place can get very busy. They are so popular that they opened another location right opposite.
Delicious cuisine and friendly service . Two thumbs up !
The original location on the north side of Castro is excellent. Their curries have a rich authentic flavor and, when you order vegetarian, the dishes don't have the residual smells of chicken or egg which is common in many Thai restaurants.
HOWEVER, they have recently started renovation at this location and consolidated at their new location (Amarin Thai Street Food). The food at this new location is inconsistent. On two out of three occasions their pad Thai was sloppy and flavorless, and the chicken Satay was too oily and not as tender as before.
Looking forward to the original location reopening.
Vegan / Veg / Vegetarian Review 🥬:
They have some amazing vegan dishes!
1. Vegan Pad See Ew / Kee Mao (3/5) (no eggs, ask them to wash the pan).
2 Soy Protein Satay (3/5) (a bit sweet and more dough than soy so maybe not that healthy? but a good protein vegan substitute tho).
Best pad thai in the town!
Had been going here for the last 18 years. This place deteriorated quickly after Covid. They let go of a lot of servers and the remaining ones are rude and harried. Food quality has become really bad and they have trimmed their menu removing some popular items. Not going there anytime soon.
The food was ok but the service was awful. We waited for 35min for any food to arrive at a post-lunch hour, and there’s no apology about it. The waitress also refused to seat the two of us outside at a table with sunlight because she said it was for four people not two - this was non-busy hour and no one was coming in in the next hour when we were there. She had an upset face too and didn’t even smile or look at us. Just a terrible experience overall other than the main course I had. The other food was very average. The steamed vegetables didn’t even have seasoning and they didn’t bring or offer seasoning. We still tipped them 18% but honestly we shouldn’t have.
Awesome Ambience
The food was decent, but the servers as someone else mentioned, were extremely pushy to order and clear out. It was busy, but for a nice meal out in Castro we shouldn’t have to be pushed to clear out of our table and order.
Nice food! The server was in a hurry to clear our plates even though we hadn’t finished eating, but forgot to refill my friend’s water. After repeatedly urging to collect our plates, he also pushed us to settle the bill. Please note that the restaurant wasn’t busy at the time, and there were plenty of empty seats. As a result, we left a lower tip. Afterward, when the server came to collect our dishes and utensils, he made an excessive amount of noise, which was extremely irritating and unbearable.
Few items are really good. Rest are average.

BEAWARE
They charge 15% before and they also show you a screen with 18% default
Super green curry and Soy protein satay are my favorite dishes here.

This place has a fast service and great food. We ordered few things that are pretty staple Thai food and all of them very very authentic! The portion size is pretty big on the entrees and it can easily be shared. We always order to go and it ia always warm and so delicious! Our go to Thai place!
Nancy and the other ladies here are liars. they kept saying my order was done but my driver showed me a picture of the empty restaurant. on top of all this they missed our coconut soup. then a lady called me stating "I refunded it on our tablet" but then Nancy told me "no we can't refund it thru our tablet"
FOOD IS GREAT LOVED IT...
when busy the staff struggles to keep up with request:
sticky mango rice never came out
tea never came out.
had to ask for chop sticks multiple times.
No extra fees or surcharges. Thank you Amarin Thai for the honest, inclusive menu pricing and please stay fee-free.
This is a solid and popular choice for Thai food greatest hits. I’ve been going here for more than 20 years.
Outdoor seating: Plenty of outdoor seating with patio umbrellas and heaters along this closed stretch of Castro Street.
Go somewhere else, the place is dated, the food is tasteless and prices are high. We were the only ones in this place, should have known why and turned back, alas. One of the dishes we ordered basil chicken which was very bland, the noodles also were tasteless. The ambience is also very dated, the forced tipping with the portable card reader is also an outrage. Wish we had not gone here. Other google reviews may be paid reviews, simply not worth the money.
The food was as I recall from years ago, quite good. Service was efficient. The sticky mango rice made my day!
I've been to this place more than 20 times. It is easily one of the best places to eat in the Bay area.
My favorites include: Soy Protein Satay, Super Green Curry and Pad Kee Mao. The place can get very busy. They are so popular that they opened another location right opposite.
Lovely food and think this is the reason the restaurant stands. Can do better in terms of staff courtesy and service culture.
The green curry is a must
This place is rather racist! The way my black friend was treated was mean, especially the older asian lady who seems to be the manager and waitress there was beyond hostile to him! She raised her voice at him and dressed him down like he was a child. The whole experience felt as if they did us a favor by allowing me to come in, sit and order food to eat. I didn't have a pleasant experience there, would NEVER go back there. They're horrible people and the food is really not that great to be honest.
Pad Thai didn’t come with limes. Mediocre food. Slow service
Inflation shows at this place : prices are high , serving size has reduced . By default hidden service charge !!
I placed an order for pickup. Ordered only green curry, and I got a curry with just eggplants in it. Their description mentions it will have other veggies too but there was none. It was the last order before they were closing so maybe they ran out of it, still I don’t expect to be served with left out. They should not take the order in such cases.
Delicious Thai food, I am in 😘 love with this place.
Tasty vegetarian food! The spices were perfect and none of the dishes smelled of the fish or oyster sauces which I've sensed in dishes served in many other Thai restaurants. We were informed upfront that these sauces would not be added to vegetarian options and they stuck by it. Enjoyed a good meal. The service was also pretty quick.
Have been coming here for Years and years even before the remodel when it was just a tiny little hut in the middle of the parking lot, the quality back in the day was probably a little bit better but it's still my go to spot when I am in the area, give it a try!!
P.s. they have a very nice [ shoes off ] sit down area that some people will appreciate, if you are into that kind of thing, dine in and check it out
One of my favorite Thai restaurants in the area. Excellent food, kind service, and good pad Thai.
While looking for places to eat we somehow wandered into the backside of this restaurant thinking we could go to the front but a young asian lady stopped us, rolled her eyes, and condescendingly said this is a "restaurant" apparently not welcoming us of the same kind. We went to their next door neighbor for udon instead.
I ordered Tom Yom soup and they gave me three 1 inch pieces of tofu with the broth and some veggies. It was $16.99.
The food here is excellent. We had been regulars here for years but have now sworn off of this place due to EXTREMELY rude staff. We had one rude waiter who left in the middle of the order and another that kept cutting us off as we spoke trying to put in an order. This is a new development as this place was a go to place for us due to high quality of food.
It was ok. It wasn’t all that it was hyped up to be
I’ve had much better Thai food in the Bay Area.
Service was very slow and messy . It wasn’t even a busy night ….
The fresh spring rolls wrapped in rice paper was dry , sticky and too chewy ! Very little peanut sauce provided on the side didn’t help.
The mango salad was really good !
태국 전통 음식을 먹기에 좋은 장소임.
맛도 그렇게 나쁘지 않음
The best Thai food this side of the town. Service is a bit slow but I do not mind waiting for the food.
I love this restaurant, the food is the closest I've had to real Thai food, but unfortunately they leave something to be desired in terms of protein, I ordered a chicken curry and paid for an extra shrimp, they added only 3 shrimp, unfortunately the amount of protein leaves something to be desired but the flavor and quality are very good.
Love the crab fried rice!
This Thai place has been around since I was in grade school. That was more than 15 years ago. The fact that this place is still thriving on Castro street is a testament to the authentic and delicious food served here.
My go to order is the Tom Yum Hot and Sour soup and the seafood Pad Thai. The soup comes out on a burner and the sourness of the lemongrass is perfectly complemented by the savoryness and spiciness of the soup. This pad Thai is my favorite because it's not too sweet. I've tasted many Thai places in LA and found the pad thais to be not as savory and more on the sugary side.
Also bonus points for asking for the Thai Chiles in fish sauce. It is a spicy and umami kick in the mouth. Prepare to feel the heat!
Also the Roti was a new dish I tried. It was crispy and the sauce was excellent!
Really enjoyed all the dishes I ordered for takeout:
Papaya salad 5/5* - fresh, flavorful and lots of crunch
Chicken red curry sauce 4/5* -
Pad Thai shrimp 5/5* - jumbo shrimp and noodles weren't overcooked
Order was prepared promptly. Parking is a challenge but there is a garage behind it.
Best Pad Thai I've ever had. Savory, balanced and the noodles were served hot and tender. Plated nicely and sizable portions. Also had the chicken satay, which was delicious as well. Lastly the spiked Thai Tea was smooth and very tasty. Swan was very personable and friendly, my drink was never empty. Golf was the server and very attentative, professional and friendly, too. Highly recommend this spot!! (Amarin I)
The ambience is pretty good because of the outdoor seating and Mountain View downtown and the lights. But I didn’t find the food worth the buck.
The fresh spring rolls weren’t that great. The tofu and the veggies were not holding up and with one bite everything fell apart.
Basil friend rice was pretty good.
Pad kee mao was okay.
Muy bien muy rico
One of the best Thai restaurants around Bay Area, easily beats each one of them. Hands down to the authenticity and no frills restaurant. Whether its lunch or dinner, seating outside, having that wonderful meal, paired with the vibes of Mountain view Castro street is a delightful experience. A must visit restaurant, loved every meal I had ever since.
The sitting arrangement inside is not that great. Doesn't feel very nice or welcoming. Definitely not high end. And the service is just ok. However the food is amazing. Really delicious. Flavorful and texture.
Food was ok. Wouldn't want to come here again. Better Thai places in the Bay area than this one.
Good food
Busy place. The food was ok. I've had better Thai food in the Bay area. Ordered a crab fried rice and the drunken noodle.
Host was racist and nonchalant. A friendly reception is very important for the brand of the business. Treat people with respect
Be kind to the server but the server may not be kind to you. Food is great but restaurant could improve on their staffing and train their waiters on being nice to customers
The cauliflower curry was good. They are apparently “short staffed” and still full with people. The waiters were literally running around the whole time. A business should do better than this. On top of this, they charged a 15% service fee for 2 people and then when I didn’t tip on top of that, they had the gall to ask me why I didn’t tip more.
This was tasty, fresh and fine for a quick meal not very authentically Thai. It was not particularly spicy and the service was so so.
Is it a mixture of styles as I noticed some Indian food on the menu and cilantro in everything which I would associate with Vietnamese not Thai cuisine.
Portions enormous so good value for money if you want to take home and have lunch for the next 2 days.
Food was good and delicious, but service was the worst and they had less staff. Customers are treated in a terrible manner like mentioned other reviews. I would assume a takeout for food since it was good.
Thumbs up: Roti, Tom Ka Gai, chicken satay
Thumbs down: Other dishes with chicken; the meat was overcooked and bland... tough and chewy. So disappointed that I took out of town guests here :(
My review is mostly based on the food. I ordered Khao Soi, and it was super super salty, I could only manage to finish half of the food when I no longer felt hungry, with the help of many grasses of water. This kind of food should not have came out from any restaurant. That being said, other people in my group were pretty happy with their food orders.
Tasty food!, recommend the chef specials!
We used to like Amarin Thai cuisine but the quality of the food has declined seriously over time. We ordered 2 dishes at different spice level. Both didn't taste good and the one that was supposed to be a medium spice (a pad thai) tasted weird and was more than super extra spicy!!! Not a good experience and I don't think that we are going to be back anytime soon.
Excellent food and drinks. Service was excellent as well.
You could be seated next door to the toilet
Mandatory service charge for bad service and substandard food
Food was good and spice levels are also good. I said it should be hot and it was spicy enough and I liked it.
The only thing is they didn't let us sit on the left side of the restaurant where the special tables were present. Not sure why
Delicious Thai food, nice ambiance, and friendly staff. I ordered Thai hot, and it was definitely hot, which is what I love. Will come back here for Thai food when in the area.
Very slow service.
Waited over an hour to get the food
Food is ok.
Atmosphere is boring and old. No air conditioning or air ventilation.
Rude staff.
I won’t go back.
The staff were so rude and impolite.
This is part of old school Mountain View on Castro that I enjoy going back to. The service and food is great. The recommendation was so beautiful that I had to bring it back to my family members to share. It helps that after the pandemic, the restaurants allow for Al Fresco dining. It reminds me of Europe.
Food taste and quality are superior, but service is sub-par where the staff attitude is impolite.
My favorite desert, mango with sticky rice
Good food, good ambience, good time
Great Thai food, nice location, but on the expensive side (as most restaurants in Castro).
It’s our go to place, the food is good and the prices are reasonable. There aren’t a lot of good Thai places around so we go here often.
The waitress cannot clearly communicate. I ordered house special fried rice. The rice is soaky and doesn't taste that good. It is below average Thai restaurant quality. There's a reason why the rating is barely 4.0 while the restaurants around it have better ratings.
Very tasty 🤤 and delicious 😋
There are few places which i want to go back over and over whenever i am in the area. Amarin is one of them. Their roti' is out of this world, and many other items on the menu definitely worth to try. After about 6th round, it's time for a review, isn't it? After a usual start of roti's tried their coconut soup this time, and the chicken. Neither disappointed. After pandemic i could see a big uptick in the crowd , and once again enjoyed the atmosphere and décor.
Good food but ruined night when random “Service Fee” added to bill and told it is not tip. I get confused by this one
I recently had the pleasure of dining at this restaurant and overall it was a nice experience. The food was decent and offered a good variety of Thai dishes to choose from. The ambiance of the restaurant was pleasant and gave off a cozy and welcoming vibe. The service was good too, the staff was friendly, attentive and very patient as we were a bit late. I would still recommend it to anyone looking for a nice Thai dining experience.
The food is okay. Not the best Thai food I've ever had, but the staff is very friendly. Definitely one of the highlights for me and my team. The food came out pretty quick but there was a ten minute delay almost from the first dish coming out to the last. The pad Thai (very basic I know) wasn't special, but hey I still ate it all. Not a place I'd especially recommend to friends as a must try but worth a try if you're on Castro street and want some food.
A great Thai place to eat with friends! The Tom ka soup is pretty good! I ordered with seafood. Curry is a bit salty but I guess you need to eat it with lots of rices, crab fried rice is my favorite! I had it twice but first time is better than second I guess. Still enjoyable
My husband and I are at Amarin Restaurant on 12/4/22 after going to the farmers' market, and we had a blessed experience with the owner, his wife, and the waitress. They were hospitable and generous with their service. The three authentic dishes that we ordered were delicious and flavorful. Thank you so much for the excellent service. God bless you and your business abundantly. Anh
Average Thai place. Pad se ew had no flavour. Pad thai was ok tho
Food was tasty and of right quantity..
Service was decent too..lunch special is too restrictive..they should allow few options.
Worst pad thai I've ever had. I've had better out of the microwave
Loved the food and the service. Kudos to all the staff.
Always great food here. Lunch hours were packed with people going for group lunches. Outdoor seating available
Had nice Thai food.
Delicious food. Multiple vegan options. Outdoor/Indoor sittings available. I felt the staff was little rude, could just be language barrier but else everything was really nice. Nice ambience. Red curry was as expected. Must try.
The owners were wonderful!
I usually go to this Thai food for lunch once a week, this is the first time for dinner. The outside seating was all full, so we took the inside table and ordered the favorite dishes of Green Curry Chicken, Musamun Beef, and Chili with Green Beams and Tofu along with jasmine rice. Singha is a must for dinner at a Thai restaurant 😎🍺 Cheers!
Food was OK! My food was too spicy, even though I requested medium spicy; the manger was kind enough to change my dish salad. Thanks 🙏 to the manager. My friend couldn’t finish though, because it was extremely hot spicy. So make sure - you ask the sever about spicy level between 1 to 5.
Great service, ok food, small portions.
Food is nothing out of the world. Menu has a lot of classic Thai dishes. Tasted ok, definitely not worth the price. The servers were great though and checked in often.
There are better Thai spots out there, but it's not bad if you're craving something on Castro
Wait for almost 1h to get food ready. Was told they were prepare for pickup orders.
Amazing food, kind waiter!
Had the Pad Kee Mao with shrimp. It was good and they can make dishes less spicy upon request. Nice outdoor dining area.
Had the green curry with prawns. It was fabulous.
The taste is ok while a bit overpriced. A curry costs $21 and rice is additional charge.
