Authentic Thai street style food served in the heart of downtown Alhambra
Enjoyed a delicious meal here with friends. Portions are adequate, their prik nam plaa was on point (with cuts of garlic!), and the flavors were on point.
Customized my friend’s chicken pad see ew, and enjoyed the tofu red curry alongside the chicken green curry. Everything was on point and prices were reasonable as well!
Will come back for sure :)
I was pleasantly surprised by the exemplary food and service that we received here. My Pineapple Fried Rice was the best that I've had, and in very picky. My girlfriend had the Dom Yum Noodles and states that they were really, really good. The perfect fresh flavor balance... If you like it spicy, you'll need ty ask for extra spice, unlike the last Thai place that I ate at where the mild literally scolded my mouth for two days. I prefer the honest choice and being able to add Chili Paste. The fried Cream Cheese Wanton was great both as an appetizer and dessert after our meal.
I'll be returning multiple times...
Forgive me, the food was so good and I was so hungry, I forgot to take pictures. Believe me, presentation was awesome. These are all I've got left...
Plenty of parking in back alley.
This is my first time dining at Chef G after numerous instances of hearing about it. We selected their lunch combo, which offered the option to choose between jasmine rice, fried rice, or brown rice (with an additional charge). This comes with soup and salad with 1 choice of appetizer for all of their dishes on their lunch menu. We chose the green curry and pad kaprow and chicken satay. We also ordered grilled beef salad.
The food itself was satisfactory, however, the portion size is rather modest. If you are a substantial eater, it might be advisable to consider ordering two or three orders. The service provided was remarkably attentive and commendable. However, parking may pose some challenges as they only provide street parking. Consequently, the restaurant premises themselves are relatively small and may not comfortably accommodate large parties.
Chef G in Alhambra is a cozy spot with attentive service and a warm atmosphere, making it a delightful choice for a post-church meal. While the menu offers a variety of Thai classics, the execution of dishes falls slightly short of exceptional. The pad thai with crispy pork belly presents a creative twist, but the noodles can lean towards mushiness, though the addition of crispy pork adds depth to the dish. Similarly, the satay features flavorful chicken but tends to be slightly tough, saved only by the delicious peanut sauce.
One disappointment arises with the Tom Kha soup, which arrives resembling a Tom Yum soup instead. Despite the visual misstep, the flavors remain true to Thai cuisine, providing a satisfying albeit unexpected twist. Parking is convenient with options in the back and on the street, ensuring easy access for diners. In summary, Chef G offers a pleasant dining experience with room for improvement in consistency and execution, yet it remains a solid choice for those seeking familiar Thai flavors with a creative touch.
Best hole in the wall Thai restaurant in SGV or maybe Los Angeles??? The drunken noodle is absolutely delicious and if you can handle spicy .. # 5 will have you screaming for more!!! The wok hei in every bite! We also love the spicy fried rice.. you can get it mild buy #4 is perfect for us…
A very small Thai restaurant but great food. There isn't a very big parking lot in the back but you can find parking nearby on the streets. There also isn't many tables inside so that is why the wait times get so long. Luckily, we came at a good time and didn't have to wait. The employees are friendly and have good service too.
We ordered the pad thai, pad see ew, chicken satay, khao soi. The satay was okay but I really liked the pad thai and pad see ew. However, the portions are a bit on the smaller side for the price. One dish is barely enough for one person. But I guess the size is good for trying different dishes with friends.

Good tasting, especially pad thai
Lemon grass soup also well flavored.
Phone doesn't work and I waited 45 minutes outside for to go order.
Small place; not many tables. I had red chicken curry with a side egg roll. It was average. The chicken was cooked properly. The taste was good. It could use more chicken and more vegetables. I asked for hot level of 3/5 which was right on.
I was recommended to come here by a friend and each time I come, their service has consistently been good. The restaurant is small, so i usually go early to avoid the line. Their food portion is a bit smaller but the taste has consistently been good. I always get their salad.
Small little restaurant serving quality authentic Thai classics.
We were in the area and a variety of Thai food food places came up on Google, we pulled up and it was a small restaurant but we still decided to go, we, black people order pad Thai and it was very little. Some Chinese people came and ordered the pad Thai and their plate was loaded with pad thai. I felt discriminated against.
I don't know what is going in LA but it's neigh on impossible to get truly authentic Thai food. But here it is! The most authentic you are gunna get. Not loaded in goopy sweet sugar sauces like all the others. This place is small - you are gunna have to wait your turn but boy is this place worth the wait. If you have ever been to Thailand then this place will transport you right back for some amazing nosh.
Food is authentic and tastes good. Would recommend

If you’re planning to visit Chef G On 4th in Alhambra, the hack is to come at lunchtime before the lunch crowd hits. I don’t even bother with dinner anymore because the place is always packed with people waiting outside.
I’ve tried various dishes like the Thai curry and Tom Yam soup, but what keeps me coming back now are the boat noodles. I highly recommend them—the broth is rich and flavorful. It’s so good, you’ll want to come back for more.
The service is friendly, but keep in mind that the place is small and can get crowded. So, try to get there during non-busy hours to avoid the wait.
This review maintains your straightforward and genuine tone while providing helpful tips and highlighting the standout dish.

Great food and excellent service!! Arrived close to restaurant closing for lunch and I was still serviced with great hospitality and attention, no rushing at all even after it closed. The food was delicious and portions were good. Would definitely come back!
They got the best curry ever! And is amazing how consistent this place is. Me & my gf came here 8 times and it’s delicious every time.
Really good food and service, not elegant, But quaint . And clean . You do have to walk around to the back of the building to use the restroom and it is small but clean. 😊
Good food with friendly service.
This place is excellent. The wok hei on the pad see ew is just what I wanted. I also like that the food is well seasoned but not overly sweet, salty, or oily. Papaya salad is spicy the way I like and the shrimp they put in it is fresh and perfectly cooked. The crab fried rice is a massive portion. I'm extremely satisfied and would be happy to come back with my sisters (want to order the laab, crispy pork w gailan, and maybe the beef salad (is this nam too or something else) next time) .
(The only dish I do not recommend is the spicy catfish. It is too dry and has too much batter.)

Food is okay, service is so so.
Great food. Fresh and flavorful. Highly recommend!
The food and service was good. The fried banana wasn't; It was unripe, so it left the bitter sensation in our mouths.
The cashew vegetable stir fry was really good, as well as the egg fried rice. Lunch combo is good value, and fills you up. Somewhat of a small restuarant, but the atmosphere inside is pleasant.
Sadly, the portions are too small. Does not fill a guy up. Delicious tho.

Delicious Thai food!
Love the BBQ chicken and egg fried rice. Best service!
Looking for a quick, local dinner and ended up going to Chef G. Overall great first experience, so glad to know there's (another) local Thai spot for when I'm in the mood.
I had the Khao Soi which as of recently has been my favorite dish in Thai restaurants. I was happy to see it on the menu since I believe this is more of a specialty, regional dish, and do not see it at all Thai restaurants. I like to think of Khao Soi as a leveled up version of the usual Thai curry. It's that much more savory, creamy, a little spicy, sweet and just so delicious. I was happy with this Khao Soi here and the chicken that it came with was very tender as well. I don't think there are other protein options with this dish as I have seen at other places.
The Khao Soi was about $14 which I thought was pretty cheap when I saw it on the menu. I assumed that it was going to be a little bit smaller of a dish and that was true. But it was not too small and did not leave me hungry. I think I like it's a little smaller and cheaper, with things costing so much these days.
It's a nice clean, little Thai restaurant with maybe under 10 tables. I like the large mural they have on one of the walls. The service staff was fantastic both when taking the order and checking with me throughout the meal. Friendly and attentive.
They are located on 4th St, as stated in their name, right off of Main St. Parking should not be an issue with parking structures close by as well as residential street parking is readily available.
If you are looking for a new Thai place, check out Chef G.
Cheers!
I always order their tom yum with seafood soup I always only get 1!of everything ect...like one shrimp and I do pick up and the girls there are very rude I order utensils I never have utensils in my bag I won't be going there anymore
Excellent food and service
I dropped my soup over my lap. But everything was ok, I enjoyed the rest of my meal.
Loved it! Great food and excellent service.
Food excessively dry, egg fried rice was not than dry, fisk cakes look more like fish pills, and very dry too, portions are ridiculous small now.. shrimp tom yum, it was ok, but nothing to brag, and portions to small..
A bit expensive but food is tasty!
Hands down the best Thai food I have recently had!! Crying tiger was perfectly cooked and the sauce was amazing. Both Pad thai and spicy fried rice were very flavorful. Green curry was quite good as well. I will definitely come back!!
The best lad nah I’ve had in LA, definitely didn’t expect to find it in Alhambra. The moo ping was well seasoned and very tender. Great food and service in an unassuming locale. Very reasonable prices as well.
Came for the Khao soi, and it did not disappoint. Khak soi is a dish that is served in Laos and Northern Thailand. I still remember the first time I had it in Chiangmai, I completely fell in love with its flavor (Oh the curry soup and the crispy fried egg noodles, yum!) I have been looking for this dish for awhile, and I’m so glad that chef G included this in the menu and the flavors were there!
All the dishes we had were authentic. Simple but tasty. And, I liked that they let us choose the spice level (from 1-5), we asked for medium (level 2), and it had a nice kick that I really enjoyed. The only suggestion would be the portions, they were on the smaller side (more like a lunch meal, yes we can’t help but wanting more)
Overall, a hidden gem. It’s a small restaurant that only has 8 tables, but it fills up fast. Service was great, every staff member was super friendly and welcoming (they deserve 5 stars) A must try when you are on Main St. Will be returning soon :)
cheap and good portions, does the job
Great food and wonderful service
No public restroom, place is tiny and when they get the order wrong the manager doesn't take back the order and give you what you want. Never have I heard of a restaurant denying a request or make no effort to make you a happy customer. Never going back, food is mid anyways.
Chef G on 4th Thai Street Food - this is a high CP value restaurant. Even though it is a small restaurant but the food 🍲 are pretty good 👍🏻 . The only thing need to remember when you place the order is when they ask you how spicy do you want, you need to ask for spicy, not medium, because it is not that spicy 🌶️ . The seats 💺 are very limited so it is good for small groups of people or just for couples.

Nice place to have Thai food. Not much seating available so be prepared to wait. The wait time is sort of insane. We ça checked it at 12.30 and we had to wait almost close to an hour to get seated.
Coming to the food.. I really loved the Pad See Eew and Crab fried rice. The fish cakes were delicious. They have some good variety of soups as well.
Usually crowded, on the positive side they have ample parking space on the back.
Restrooms are on the backside.
I hope soon this restaurant moves to a bigger space 🙏 Because this place is incredibly popular 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
Cute little hole in the wall restaurant with excellent service and very clean. Bathroom was very clean too, though it required an awkward walk around the building to access.
As for the food, we ordered pineapple fried rice with pork and drunken noodles with pork (pad kee mao). Both got 3/5 spice level, but literally no spice and lack of flavor. Pork pieces were very overcooked, dry and hard.
Pineapple fried rice tastes more like curry rice with pineapple chunks. The portion size on the rice was very good though
Drunken noodles was very sweet. Tasted like pad see ew instead of pad kee mao. Had to drench both dishes with the dry chili flakes to really get through it.
Would I recommend, probably not if I'm trying to satisfy my Thai food cravings, but it is kind of a cute casual date night restaurant. Very cozy and good service.
Me and my brother-in-law came here on a Friday night a little bit before they closed. They were still able to see us and did not disappoint. One of the best Thai food ive had in a while. I will be returning for their delicious food and great service.
Ordered Papaya Salad, Pad Kee Mao, Pad Thai, and Kao Moo Dang. The Papaya Salad with level 2/5 spice was good, with a small afterkick that was pleasant than painful. The Pad Kee Mao was highly recommended and tasted very good, not too greasy, with all the flavors well cooked in. The sausage of the Kao Moo Dang was delicious and enough sauce to spread out with the rice as well to add flavor. The Pad Thai was very standard so a good choice if this one is your go-to. The portions may look a bit small on these simple plates but they're all really sufficient if you do one dish and a shared appetizer. Location is very accessible on Main Street with some street parking nearby and a parking lot in the back. Note the time limit. It does get busy and the restaurant is small so there may be a wait. Find the staff member with the clipboard to join the waitlist when you get there.
Love coming to Chef G! Everything ive had was delicious and the staff is so friendly! There is parking in the lot in the back and street parking. Some of our favorites are the pad thai, papaya salad, boat noodles, pad kaprow, and mango sticky rice.
the service here for one is awesome. not the best if ur an introvert like me because i like being left alone. but if ur high maintenance they r great. they check up on u and everything. prices are great, especially the lunch specials. however, they do give minimal portions (which i think is good because we have a lot of food waste). when i go as one person, i can try two dishes. the place is a bit small but i think it adds to the homeyness. i recommend their pineapple fried rice and their yellow curry combo. other ones on the menu are also great. their Vietnamese coffee is really good as well (for me). their thai tea is okay, i personally like banana bays better.
It was alright. It wouldn't be my go-to thai spot. Ordered take-out, so I can't really comment on the atmosphere or service.
I ordered the following:
-Fresh shrimp summer rolls
-Lunch special pad thai
-Sukiyaki
The biggest letdown was the sukiyaki. The description shows it would have fish balls, shrimp, and squid. I got one shrimp and mostly chicken. I don't eat chicken... The description didn't include chicken 🙄
Pad thai was meh.
The fresh summer rolls were pretty good. Packed w veggies, and I liked the dipping sauce.
Don't forsee myself coming back.
We love chef G todo esta sabroso
Air conditioning
Felt like trying out somewhere I haven't been to before and this Thai place caught my eye. Easy parking in the back and the lunch specials are good. I went with the yellow curry and 3 out of 5 spicy levels. I felt that was a good middle ground for someone like me, who doesn't have a high spicy tolerance: just enough heat to feel it without overwhelming you. It also comes with a clear chicken broth soup, small salad, and rice
I also tried their Thai ice tea and it was nice, though I wish they had slightly less ice in it. Overall, decent prices, good food, and I left satisfied!
Delicious food. Great service. 1 star off for no public restroom.
I tried this place for the first time today, I ordered the BBQ chicken and fried rice side...wow! This is my new place for this dish...can't wait to try other dishes! A+
Delicious and great service.
Very clean and comfortable little place. Just go and enjoy your meal
Very friendly service and very tasty food
BEWARE!! As a regular customer I have been left traumatized! I found a live maggot in my lunch combo salad. I will never be eating here again. Such a shame. Go at your own risk!!
A cozy hideaway in Alhambra and by far the most superior Thai restaurant in town. This isn't Thai fusion: this is THAI.
I ordered the spicy eggplant with crispy pork belly. I do not exaggerate when I say it ranked among the top 5 best meals I've ever had. The crispy pork belly was simply incredible, and I literally rolled my eyes with every bite out of some mixture of disbelief and awe that it was so perfect. The service was both prompt and polite. I will definitely be back soon.
Holy cow, this was incredible! Such an amazing find. I am so excited to have exceptional and traditional Thai food here in Alhambra. The people are friendly and offer incredibly prompt service and we never wanted for anything. I will be coming back many times in the future. Some of the best food I've had in my life.
Delicious food! Great service.
Best Thai food around SGV area. I'm sure Thai Town has better but this is still really.
If you haven't been to Chef G on 4th, you NEED to go now! Hands down the best place for Thai food in the SGV. Friendly service and the food was a life changing experience that had my friends and me super full without feeling bogged down or heavy. Everything ordered was devoured ! Highly recommend the mango sticky rice too. Don't sleep on the best Thai food in town! There can sometimes be a bit of a wait so go early and be ready to feast! :)
Great service and food is so yummy! I got a pad thai with shrimp and the shrimp is so crispy and the pad thai was so flavorful. My husband got the green curry and it was so creamy and flavorful. He got a level 2 spice and it was plenty spicy already. We also got the fried dumplings and the sauce was so good. Can't wait to come back again. The ladies here are so friendly, and the service is superb. She checked on us so much and brought us water when our thai tea was finished. I was thoroughly impressed.
The food tasted flavorful and delicious. Everything was great. Definitely will go back again and try another plate on the menu.
Food is great! Staff are quite nice. I did take out however atmosphere seems very pleasant. I'm glad I tried Chef G Thai!
Great service. The food is really delicious.
After finishing my business at the AAA offices I was very very hungry but I didn't know what to get. I look up at my Yelp to see what good restaurant I would got to have lunch then I notice say this Thai restaurant in Alhambra it's a short distance where I am at. I decided to try this Thai restaurant I really enjoy Thai food. When I arrive the restaurant I notice they display the menu they have a good lunch menu including combos. I step the the waitess greet I told her my order is to go she was nice and very helpful telling about their lunch deal.
I decided to order the Yellow curry with egg roll with rice combo then I told her it's to go. I waited and sat down then I look around the restaurant it's small with plenty of table I notice people come here for lunch to get the lunch specials. My order was ready then I left the restaurant and headed home with my lunch. I open the container the Yellow curry was in a small container it also comes with a side salad and Jasmine rice. The yellow curry was incredible bold flavors in the yellow curry the chicken was tender and juicy. The egg roll was great good flavors and crispy and crunchy taste that was awesome. The rice was amazing I add the rice in the yellow rice it taste so good and mind blowing flavors in this dish I really enjoy it.
The service incredible good and the staff was very friendly. I need to come back again with my wife and friends.
Customer service was excellent. Food was unexpectedly very good. Though not enough room inside to sit. But during slow hour, you can definitely sit and enjoy food. Everything was delicious. The portion was appropriate for the price. We also tried the crying tiger. It was really good.
Nice ambiance and location
New Thai place that is great so far. Seems like the owners are somehow related to a Thai restaurant up near Sacramento, CA, which is a good sign.
Food is pretty good. We spontaneously decided to eat here when we were walking by. We ordered a green curry (rice is an extra order), a Thai milk tea, and a Guay Tire Ruar (the boat noodles they call it).
Thai milk tea - Sweet. Too sweet for my tastes. Still good. Pricing is good too so I don't mind that I ordered something way too sweet for my tastes.
Green Curry (medium) - Flavour is very good. Unlike most green curries, the flavour is strong and not diluted. You can clearly taste coconut milk and the curry paste. Amazing. A bit disappointed that rice is an additional side order (+$2) though. Would've been nice to not need additional order of rice since all the sections (outside of a la carte) comes with some sort of carbs. Serving size is... a bit small if your expectations are normal American sizes (a lot). I think the serving is perfect to feel satisfied, but when you compare it with the average portion size on the area, it is a bit small.
Guay Tiew Ruar (the boat) - essentially it is a beef noodle soup. For non-thai folk, the flavour is a kind of like a fusion between taiwanese beef noodle soup and a Vietnamese pho. I really like it. Flavour is really good and strong, and the spice level is reasonable for a western audience. Portion size is the same story as the green curry. I think this applies to all items here.
We ordered some salads as takeout the next day and had similiar thoughts. Good price, smaller than average portions (but enough to feel satisfied), and good, strong flavour.
Service was really good. The people were friendly and attentive. Way better than what you would expect from the area.
Store location is pretty small. Sore only have 7-8 tables of 2-4 people, so don't expect to easily sit a group of 8 here.
The store seems to be pretty new, and the first few months is the most turbulent time for a restaurant. Hopefully the good times continue on! :)
Food lacked flavor (salt, spicy, something) . Even the Thai tea was blah. Yes, it's nice and small, but it should not take more 10min for someone to acknowledge that you are there.
Chef G is the real G. I'd give my life to this shop. Such a great atmosphere, very homey and cozy with amazing workers/service - with even better food and drinks!
Chef G really is some of the best Thai food I’ve ever had. I would give my life for Chef G
Lunch set. Soup salad and main dish. What a treat.
I am Thai. We compare the taste and quality of the food to all the restaurants in Thailand. This one has good cooks and quality
. If you want a good authentic thai food try it. I guaranty you will like it. The price is reasonable not expensive. Comparable to other Asian restaurants. Recommend, crab fried rice, pad Thai, papaya salad, shrimp and bean thread noodles, crying tiger... yummy!
